Canadian musical hero! This song was EVERYWHERE back in the day... so nostalgic and it still holds up, legendary to say the very LEAST!
❤
This makes me feel old as fuck
@@DHGWHISKEY117😂
i remember listening to this song when i was younger but i couldn't find it until today on my local radio station
For those interested:
'Crabbuckit' refers to the 'Crab in the bucket'-syndrome, a phenomenon where when a group of crabs is trapped in a bucket, they will pull any crab who's trying to escape down, thus ensuring collective elimination.
Also Nelly Furtado is seen playing a guitar at 1:14 and Red1 from Rascalz at the bar beside k-os at 2:45.
And yes, k-os is written with a lower case k, to look less agressive.
The more you know... :)
No is not. Its a vril reference. Donald marshall explains it
@@juanma1882 That's right....only Canadian crabs act that way.
@@juanma1882 provide the link because absolutely nowhere on the internet agrees with you after multiple Google searches.
Refers to anyplace in the world where someone's trying to better themselves...but their family, friends, people keep pulling them back down.
I've loved this song since forever, and never knew this until now! I just heard a reference to the Crab bucket phenomenon and it clicked... came here to listen, and you confirmed for me :)
one of Torontos realest artist. hands down!
he now live in Vancouver
So true! Man I wish more Rap artists were like this.
Another great one is Classified and Shad. K-OS is amazing. What a songwriter and a genius.

+Aitkey Wish I could say that, but I was 31 when this song came out. Don't get old, kids.
No time to get down cause I’m moving up.... dude was preaching being high value 15 years ago...
Great Canadian artist! Deserves way more credit❤
It just got stuck in my head again, like 20 years later LoL
Agree
first part, true. second part, nah. he was basically the biggest asshole in the industry.
Agreed
brought to you from every radio station from vancouver to st. johns

A smooth original hip-hop/hipster cat you gotta love k-os. CANADA STAND UP!
hes not a hipster
Disco fan97 no kidding talk about insulting the poor guy
I prefer AC/DC
@@fieryfox1527 I like both.
Mlar. Been a decade and half and I still remember when this mans Oofield and their squad came to my school in Winnipeg, and did a music workshop. Most things in school your destined to never remember. But this man sand his people were absolute bliss. Gave our music class at Archwood a workshop and Experience to this day ill never forget. Andd as much as that sounds like cap. Coming from a troublesome 90s born wpg kid, and a dual minority at that, that truly means something.
God bless g, hope all is well with you and yours. *
This guy was an icon ahead of his time 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
This is a timeless Canadian 💎.....that brings this groove funk to another dimension ✨️🪄🎶♥️
THIS is what Canadian hip-hop is.
A real pioneer. He was singing and rapping before anyone thought it was cool in the genre
I thought this song was more popular
No they just play it a shit-ton in Canada.
+Ethan Murray (Nilbog) well it should be more popular
+Yung Yume yep
Yung Yume, true.

One of the best Canadian musicians of all time. Ubiquitous and influential for such a long time.
Dream Warriors... Neil Young.. Tragically Hip... among my favs :)
One of the Best artists east of the metaverse
Didn't know that!
@oodlesofnoodles9437 kos is a douche. He came to our campus for a concert. He started every song with the intro of crabs, then went off playing a different song. By the 6th time he did this, people started chatting Crabs! CRABS!!! Kos goes on to say "you know what Niagara Falls?! Go F--k yourselves!!!....no no I shouldn't of said that..."
LOL a ya riiiiiight
I’m in the back of my mom’s topaz car on a hot day with the window’s rolled down and I can hear this playing in the background on the radio, it’s weird, it’s the simplest memories I cherish the most. If you see this one day K-os, thank you for the wonderful memory.
Its crazy what songs can remind you of. I can remember my mom driving down the 401 blasting this in her little beater honda when i was like four lol.
I remember just being in the backseat of my moms green car, not really paying attention to the radio, but then this song comes on and I lock in with it right away, windows down and big open blue skies. Such a great song
Same exact. Thanks k-os
Same ty kos the lyrical genius
I will never forget when i was a kid on Canada day in Regina Saskatchewan you had a performance that night and you went back to your tour bus and you actually let me come on the bus and you signed my shoe thats a memory i will never forget man thank you!
Im from Louisana and ik he's Canadian but the background instrumentals are so NOLA it's bad ass can't believe I've never heard of him before
Pretty sure it’s NOLA inspired

Underrated ass song right here
Haven't seen this video in years - I had no idea where it was originally but now I'm seeing it's my current neighbourhood with Trinity Bellwoods park, The Drake hotel, Queen West, etc. So cool!

17 years ago today in the year 2006 A new era for "Michael Barb" began to take shape. At the time this song was playing as the era unfolded and the rest is history. Happy Anniversary Michael Barb...here's to 17 more long prosperous years at the top. "Trying to get down but I'm moving up, check out the crabs in the bucket.'
KOS is playin in my city in march. Hope he does bboy stance.
They got K-Os to explain his many rhyme techniques inside the books he was interviewed for - *HOW TO RAP* and *HOW TO RAP 2*
One of his quotes in them is:
"Writing lyrics to be sung is different from writing rap lyrics -
there’s a cadence difference, and some things don’t
sound right. Like “onomatopoeia,” that word, no matter
how many times you sing it, it’s just not a really sexy word to
sing, but if you say it in a rap, you get to fit it somewhere. A
word like that is a wicked rap word because it’s got so much
movement."
and onomatopoeia has 4 vowels in a row nonetheless!
When you try to better yourself, but the negative people in your life drag you back because if they can't have “it” neither should you.
"Fascinating creature, the crab. Got that hard exterior, but he ain't really dangerous... 'cept to another crab. Dumb as all hell. Can't even walk straight. Matter of fact, the only thing a crab is good for is holding back other crabs. A crab don't wanna see another crab make it. Crab is like,' if I'm gonna die, we all gonna die'. I admire that. We all gotta die sometimes, might as well help each other get there."
- Lord Rufus Crabmiser
I laughed really hard and respected that profound comment
Indeed Good Sir o_O-
Profound comment that. Words to live by.
CJusticeHappen21 Rufus Crabmiser? Is that the guy's name from that episode of The Boondocks who says that? If so im impressed, i didnt catch that when i saw the episode.

I was stuck on the classic rock carousel for so long, I thought that music had died. Between CBC Radio 2 and UA-cam, it is like I found musical heaven. Love this song.
Ironically both this comment and the song are now classic!
The Crabs in the Bucket Mentality ain't no fiction.
Pretty surprised this didn't reach over a million. Only at 884,906 now. Dammit people.
how does this not have a million hit yet
almost there :)
actually it does :)
*Who's still listening* 😀 2021
Here in 2022
2024*
why is it that this only has 225k views? i dont understand.. this song is definitely a huuge throwback, i remember listening to it on the radio non stop
My childhood memories here. Teacher was playing this as I played with the LEGO.
tragically hip, ahead by a century
Referencing "ahead by a century" makes this song even more tragically hip than it is.
2022 is still relevant... classic...
How does this have so little views so underrated
this is when Muchmusic was good
oh holy shit is your comment ever accurate
Yup. When "feel good music" was cool.
that was towards the end of Muchmusic, after 2005 all music channels went sour.
Agree so friggen hard
Ehh Randy the time is now; im still groovin!
tried to find this song for like a week and when i heard it on the radio i tried to listen to the lyrics and ended up searching "she put the crabs in the bucket" and it led me to this video! so glad i found it though
Me too! after hearing on the radio many times i finally pulled up my phone, went to the memos and typed down "its time to get down cos im moving up... grab the bucket(lol)" and searched it when i get home lol!

Kev, you and I shared some late night adventures over Amato's Pizza on Q West at least a couple of times. We just kinda sat on the bench outside together, ate our za in peace and quietly recognized one another as we came and went our separate ways. One particularly drunk night we even shared a spliff. Mid two thousands I believe in TO. I lived at 42 Gladstone, in a loft above the booze can. Good times sir. Cheers Michael.
Ive come to learn that our homegrown music is better then most of what's out there today. K-os Headstones, arkells, big sugar, glorious sons, April wine. So so many I can't name them all lol
