I am not dead! I was only frozen, asleep, paralyzed, recharging, affected by Nightmare, stuck in an infinite Pokemon battle, infected by a self-replicating virus, and traveling across parallel universes.
I like to think the reason for this is that the devs figured some kids might mess around in the settings of the game and turn animation off by mistake, but they want to make sure the finale is memorable for them regardless
Your mom losing the instruction manual for the pokegear is amazing, I love that they not only prepared for that situation but made an in-universe excuse for it
Cool Trainer Nick is so good at catching bugs though, you basically can't win. Some of his potential catches have higher scores than anything you can catch.
I could have sworn Red bounces the Pokeball when a Pokemon that's been captured on the current savefile scrolls by... I remember that being the case, and it always bounced no matter what when a starter scrolled by. I just checked and that's definitely not the case, so I wonder why I remember that happening... Also I have to wonder why Crystal didn't patch the Johto Pokeballs being broken (or at least the Love Ball only), maybe they didn't actually know
Half of those were news to me. Particularly like the last one. Reminds me of the museum in RSE. If you do not have enough money for the entrance fee during the story, the woman will assume you are part of Team Aqua/Magma and let you through so you cannot get softlocked.
Man, RBY did a really bad job of implementing Hyper Beam's recharge turn. It seems like every time a new video goes up there's some new weird glitch with it.
That Vermillion Gym "bug" is interesting. I think I've run into that before where I used save states to easily find the 2nd switch. I checked all 3 (or 4) surrounding trash bins and didn't find the 2nd switch. I just assumed it was changing it based on the current frame or something strange. Great video!
It's an amusing coincidence a pokemon that uses hyper beam gets exhausted afterwards (hence the 1 turn to recover) so that tired pokemon could fall asleep nice and easy With a simple lullaby.... Like its so tired its impossible it wont fall asleep against a move designed for it. Maybe it was an intentional mechanic lol
Oh, the Love Ball increases the catch rate if the opponent Pokemon is the SAME gender as the player's Pokemon? Hmm, I wonder how Kurt messed that up...maybe the fanfics got to him? Then again, it might have also been because of parallel universes.
*People in comments about the Love ball error* *_"SJW'S LBQT marxist political bullshit about the gayness in Pokemon" comments intensify._* *What it was really like:* "Damn, does the love ball check for the female gender as bit 1 or bit 0? I can't tell with all this code!" "I dunno dammit, pick whichever one and call it good, not like the players will notice a difference." "Let's just hope for the best it was correct...*chooses whatever bit it was accidentally choosing Male by mistake*"
I remember that trick with the dust, I use to do it when I was bored. Not surprised by the switch in Surge's Gym its mostly been top left all the times I've played.
+SlypherSpoons have you considered that maybe you're the reason why those studies are bullshit, considering lgbt children have to grow up with people like you telling them they're fucked up and fake and therefore those studies have no proper control group that proves anything about lgbt folks at all, except that people in general get fucked up when so many people hate then
SlypherSpoons Uh there's no need to get your panties twisted. It was just a feature. You can dislike LGBT people that's completely fine, but you can't call them mistakes and shit and act like you are superior. And blaming everything on the left like a conspirancy theory. Grow up.
It wouldn't surprise me if this @SlypherSpoons guy has something he has to say, if you know what I mean, since he hates gay people so much. It is alright buddy. Your parents will love u no matter what..... I hope.
@#2 So.. if my togepi hatched at a patch of grass it's also x2 effective to train there so i can get togetic twice as fast. Or does it only apply for Caught pokemon, not Hatched
Half of these: "Here's a cool little instance of the game actually making the world feel more realistic by a specific scenario playing out!" Other half: "yeah they forgot about twineedle so it can poison steel types lmao"
Well, Toxic doesn't hit Steel types either. Not sure on Glare on Ghosts mechanics, actually. Thinking that Hypnosis would fail against Dark types is reasonable. (Same goes for Lovely Kiss, it works against Ghosts)
Most of them are just specific to a game feature that doesn't apply to new games, or are straight up glitches/oversights. Maybe the friendship ones, but I wouldn't know and probably not anyway. Or maybe the bug catching contest NPC scores in HGSS but they probably changed the scoring system and/or the pokemon available so they would have to adjust the NPC scores as well.
Energokinetic programmer laziness. the reason being that if you change for DST and the time change is 11pm to 12am (thus, a change in the day of the week), then there would have to be code that can handle such a calculation. in other instances of changing to/from DST, no special consideration has to be made for a day changing.
It would affect time-based events and probably make some easily expoitable. For example, you could go back and forth playing in the bug catching contest multiple times. I think this failsafe was the best choice they could've made considering there were so many things affected by it that they would have to take care of and possibly forget about with bad consequences.
Energokinetic Like Crystal said, it would prevent jumping back and forth between days to exploit daily events. I remember discovering this as a little kid because I was trying to do multiple mystery gifts in Pokémon Stadium 2. It would've been useful since you can get many exclusive decorations and rare items without having to wait for another day. Thought I had outsmarted the game, but it obviously didn't work out for me.
Is the hyper beam sleep one really a glitch? That seems logical enough to be deliberate. The Pokemon just used a move that forces it to recharge or rest, making it very vulnerable to being put to sleep. Makes sense to me. Of course if it really is a glitch, that's just coincidence.
You could've condensed a bunch of your points to "In the first two generations, immunity to status conditions was tied with the type; Steel-types are only immune to poison from Poison-type moves, Fire-types are only immune to burning from Fire-type moves, and Ice-types are only immune to freezing from Ice-type moves. Also, Ground-types & Electric-types are only immune to paralysis from Electric-type moves in these games, for similar reasons.
Hey since you know of some obscure things in Pokémon do you know about the auto catch mechanic in g/s/c? I swear I'm not trolling everybody seems to think that when I ask but it's a serious question. Thanks for your time
Crystal_ when using a pokeball after you hit "use" the screen flashes white if you hit a specific button pattern (which is why I'm asking I can't remember it as I learned it 15 years ago) correctly, when it goes back to the battle, text appears that said auto catch enabled and if has a 50-50 chance of freezing your game but if it doesn't it catches the Pokémon no matter what. My buddy showed me but I have no way of contacting him nowadays and I doubt if he would remember. My only hope is people with tons of knowledge about Pokémon. But like I've said I haven't found any info about it
Because the OP said that Fact #6 is just like real life, and Fact #6 is a mistake made in the programming of pokemon. Also because there are multiple species on Earth that are homosexual, but there is only one species that is homophobic. And that one species just so happens to be the smartest collective species on Earth.
Crystal, you said that ONE out of the three pokemon starters would scroll across. That isn't true. Bulbasaur and Squirtle scrolled across as well, that's TWO out of three, not ONE out of three.
I know dude I was just memeing I was only jealous that I wasn't autistic enough to figure these out/learn by myself. The amount of time I spent on Smogon and Bulbapedia is probably more than the time I spent on eating my whole life.
I am not dead!
I was only frozen, asleep, paralyzed, recharging, affected by Nightmare, stuck in an infinite Pokemon battle, infected by a self-replicating virus, and traveling across parallel universes.
Good to know!
Crystal_ haha
Saying how are you feeling crashes Paper Mario.
At least you're not poisoned, seeded, burned and confused!
It can't crash if it's already crashed
I like that they turn the animations back on. Makes the final battle more intense, even in speedruns where they're normally turned off.
I like to think the reason for this is that the devs figured some kids might mess around in the settings of the game and turn animation off by mistake, but they want to make sure the finale is memorable for them regardless
The last one is a good example of giving a lazy guy a diffucult task
I am a much better example
+Crystal_ lol
2:07 I fully support my gay Nidoran son
Ayy! That's pretty good!

Heh, interesting "anticheat" for DST daychange prevention. Didn't realize they took that into account, but that makes sense.
Finally! A video of "little known facts" that I didn't actually know!
Yeah the popular ones are just facts copy and pasted off of freaking Bulbapedia or some other informative site.
Your mom losing the instruction manual for the pokegear is amazing, I love that they not only prepared for that situation but made an in-universe excuse for it
Notice how bad the Bug Catchers are at catching bugs in the bug catching contest.
Cool Trainer Nick is so good at catching bugs though, you basically can't win. Some of his potential catches have higher scores than anything you can catch.
Cool Trainer Nick is that one kid with the GameShark
From watching both these videos, my mind is blown, at these small, minute, attention to details, especially for gameboy games!
You can decipher all of these things about these games, then try to decipher what Venusaur's r/b/y sprite looks like. I can never make it out, lol
I could have sworn Red bounces the Pokeball when a Pokemon that's been captured on the current savefile scrolls by... I remember that being the case, and it always bounced no matter what when a starter scrolled by. I just checked and that's definitely not the case, so I wonder why I remember that happening... Also I have to wonder why Crystal didn't patch the Johto Pokeballs being broken (or at least the Love Ball only), maybe they didn't actually know
i clearly remember that in my blue as well when i was younger but thought the error was with the emulation when i got a virtual blue later
Half of those were news to me. Particularly like the last one. Reminds me of the museum in RSE. If you do not have enough money for the entrance fee during the story, the woman will assume you are part of Team Aqua/Magma and let you through so you cannot get softlocked.
Introduced in generation 2.....
The super rare gay Nidoran!
3:38 lmao I did not remember how derpy Scyther's back sprite used to look
The Love Ball thing being true I like calling it the "Gay Ball" instead.
I've got Jewish ancestry but lol.
Pokemon was supporting the gay long before it was cool. Perhaps this "mistake" was intended as a joke.
Man, RBY did a really bad job of implementing Hyper Beam's recharge turn. It seems like every time a new video goes up there's some new weird glitch with it.
That Vermillion Gym "bug" is interesting. I think I've run into that before where I used save states to easily find the 2nd switch. Anyone who has seriously level grinded in Gen 1 knows number 3 all to well
I think "cannot miss" would have been more accurate than 100% accuracy for #9
Learned a few things, nice video :)
That's an accurate statement
It's an amusing coincidence a pokemon that uses hyper beam gets exhausted afterwards (hence the 1 turn to recover) so that tired pokemon could fall asleep nice and easy With a simple lullaby.... Like its so tired its impossible it wont fall asleep against a move designed for it. Maybe it was an intentional mechanic lol
I thought this was going to be another obvious facts video, but it turns out i didn't knew many of them! Really good video! Thumbs up
I thought red threw the ball when it was a pokemon you had caught! My memory must be off
thank you for all your videos. i'm drowning in nostalgia.
Wow i didn't know about many of these, you even included the visual proof too! I'm amused! Nice video! =D
Oh, the Love Ball increases the catch rate if the opponent Pokemon is the SAME gender as the player's Pokemon? Hmm, I wonder how Kurt messed that up...maybe the fanfics got to him?
Then again, it might have also been because of parallel universes.
Number 14 I knew- it's very helpful when navigating Vermilion Gym. A lot of these are completely new to me, though. I like a lot. :)
0:16 -- so much for the PokeBall toss when Bulbasaur came out and there was none eh
I just love the first one!
How did you find out? By reading the ASM disassembled code?
very interesting video for the pokenerds among us :) rly liked it
thanks, congrats on the SPL by the way :)

So Pokemon Stadium 2 Pokemon Academy wasn't lying when they said Ice Types can be froken but not that easy.
Facts 11 and 14 just blew my mind up
I remember that trick with the dust, I use to do it when I was bored. Not surprised by the switch in Surge's Gym its mostly been top left all the times I've played.
#16 if I remember correctly twineedle also can poison poison types in gen I and is also super effective against them.
aw man, why didn't they keep 2 and 5?
okay 2 things
1. i meant 5. i made an incredibly bad typo, but it was 5.
2. what the fuck
+SlypherSpoons have you considered that maybe
you're the reason why those studies are bullshit, considering lgbt children have to grow up with people like you telling them they're fucked up and fake and therefore those studies have no proper control group that proves anything about lgbt folks at all, except that people in general get fucked up when so many people hate then

Excellent video, I learned a lot !
Out of all 20 facts I've only known about the love ball glitch. Not this is some really good job you've made
Thanks!
*looks at the right and sees another 20 facts video* yay!
Learned some new obscurities.
5:36 So can Tri Attack thaw out a target?
I knew about fact 6 and then facts 7, 12, and 14 I learned once from videos and then completely forgot. Everything else is new to me.
Legit only knew one of those facts and I've been playing since the Red and Blue days. I learned something new! XD
Knew 3, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 16, 20. I learned a lot from this video.
Good to hear!
Wow, I only knew #5 and #15. Interesting!
learned some of this from watching AGDQ. neat tho!
Underrated video. Great work!
Great video as always
Sorry if this has been asked before, but tip 2 - Does it apply to Pokemon hatching? (Looking at you Togepi)
Half of these: "Here's a cool little instance of the game actually making the world feel more realistic by a specific scenario playing out!"
Other half: "yeah they forgot about twineedle so it can poison steel types lmao"
Can't Secret Power cause poison? Or does that not count?
that's from gen 3
oh... obviously... for some reason when you said "6 games" I read 6 generations... even though we're up to 7 now...
I didn't know most of these. Good stuff.
In Crystal version, Hypnosis works on Psychic immune Dark types :( thought I had found a complete counter to Hypnosis Gengar.
Most status moves don't care about type immunities, Thunder Wave is more of an exception than the rule.
I assume never, but it saddens me a bit haha ;D ah so Thunder Wave is the exception. I wish the other status moves worked like that.
Well, Toxic doesn't hit Steel types either. Not sure on Glare on Ghosts mechanics, actually. Thinking that Hypnosis would fail against Dark types is reasonable. (Same goes for Lovely Kiss, it works against Ghosts)
Hahaha yo sabía el #2, lo que no sabía es que sólo ocurría en Crystal! Siempre pensé que eso ocurría en todos los juegos!
Oh my god O.O I actually had no idea about most of these!
I love your videos
thanks!
Pokemon Crystal is just too good for an 8-bit game
do some of these actually maintain to the newer games ?
Most of them are just specific to a game feature that doesn't apply to new games, or are straight up glitches/oversights. Maybe the friendship ones, but I wouldn't know and probably not anyway. Or maybe the bug catching contest NPC scores in HGSS but they probably changed the scoring system and/or the pokemon available so they would have to adjust the NPC scores as well.
Actually, isn't 17 also the case for Pokemon Yellow (in Pikachu's case at least), except it's a 10x decrease if friendship is >250?
Great job.
2:15 the pride ball
I don't really get the point of the last one, what's the reason for it?
Energokinetic programmer laziness. the reason being that if you change for DST and the time change is 11pm to 12am (thus, a change in the day of the week), then there would have to be code that can handle such a calculation. in other instances of changing to/from DST, no special consideration has to be made for a day changing.

Yo ya doy el like antes de empezar, que nos conocemos y se que va a ser bueno jajaja
gracias xD
Very interesting
Is the hyper beam sleep one really a glitch? That seems logical enough to be deliberate. The Pokemon just used a move that forces it to recharge or rest, making it very vulnerable to being put to sleep. Makes sense to me. Of course if it really is a glitch, that's just coincidence.
It's a documented bug in the source code. You can in fact ignore other status conditions which in normal crcumstances you can't.
Are you sure number 9 was an error?
How did I waste $190000 on a $90 item? I bought 21.11 of them and tossed all except one in specific
nice
Well.
Good thing I glitch as well my senpai.
3:02 no way... beta Glaive Rush real...
Hey since you know of some obscure things in Pokémon do you know about the auto catch mechanic in g/s/c? I swear I'm not trolling everybody seems to think that when I ask but it's a serious question. Thanks for your time
what do you mean by "auto catch"?
Crystal_ when using a pokeball after you hit "use" the screen flashes white if you hit a specific button pattern (which is why I'm asking I can't remember it as I learned it 15 years ago) correctly, when it goes back to the battle, text appears that said auto catch enabled and if has a 50-50 chance of freezing your game but if it doesn't it catches the Pokémon no matter what. Sounds like a random false rumor to me, in fact I know there's no such thing in the game.
Yeah sounds like some playground rumour your memory has modified into thinking that it's true.
Hmm, can Tri Attack thaw a frozen enemy?
Interestingly, Tri-Attack has a 33% chance to defrost a frozen target in GSC.
Awesome! Just saw your tweet too :D

at least its MORE than 256 :)

2:07 fact #6: just like in real life 😌
SlypherSpoons Oh I'll bite (famous last words!). How is homosexuality a glitch and a mistake?
Because the OP said that Fact #6 is just like real life, and Fact #6 is a mistake made in the programming of pokemon. Also because there are multiple species on Earth that are homosexual, but there is only one species that is homophobic. And that one species just so happens to be the smartest collective species on Earth.
Zero dislikes!
Crystal, you said that ONE out of the three pokemon starters would scroll across. That isn't true. Bulbasaur and Squirtle scrolled across as well, that's TWO out of three, not ONE out of three.
I meant all of them, i.e. anyone of the three starters

Bit harsh there dude - not cool. Besides, people have a lot of interest in taring these games apart so they examine the code directly.
