It's good to hear this sung by real sailors.
Are *any* of those “sailors” enlisted?
@@mgy401 All but a few of the Navy Band members are enlisted; they only have a handful of officers, and none of the performers are civilians. All the vocalists currently on the roster are Petty Officer 1st Class, Chief Petty Officer, or Senior Chief Petty Officer. The service bands recruit from the civilian sector as well as from currently serving members of the service. If you are recruited from the civilian sector you go through basic training the same as all other service recruits, but I believe there is an accelerated promotion schedule.
@@MichaelOnines Thanks for that!
I was in the Army, saw an Army band play once (in a DFac in Iraq). Never saw or heard of them training or fighting.
@@Toimu13 Went to pre-deployment training and they were running the bandsmen through at the same time. The mortuary affairs folks didn't do much fighting, either, but they were still soldiers.
I love every rendition of this song I've ever heard. But this one hits so different. Seeing sailors in their whites performing it so well and with such evident pleasure... 🥰
Outstanding vocal of the shanty. Nice to see traditional songs recorded and performed so well! Great job!
My favorite version is from Nathan Evans and Santiano!
They had a lot of fun doing this clearly. I generally love seeing service members enjoying their jobs
My face while listening to this was like the guy in the orchestra at 0:36 : 😃
Great performance!
Howd u catch that hahah
Fr XDXD
I was already looking for this comment. I've noticed as well
I totally noticed this as well!
I love they're sound as a group what perfect harmony
"I love they are sound..." (DEEP SIGH) Yet another one who can't get "there," "they're," and "their"---which is the correct "their" needed here---straight.
A catchy 18th century whaling folk song from New Zealand. Great version!!
Goes back to British-born Weller brothers Edward, George and Joseph, an later a whaling ship called the "Billy o' Tea"....
Yeah. I believe it's Scottish
1900s and it's not a sea shanty
Although its origins it’s not fully known its believe to be based a wellers rock which is in the Otago harbour. Most likely written by Scottish expats.
The Wellers were suppliers to whalers around Otago of NZ in the 1800's, that is what this song is about
I've been a member of the renaissance festival community for 38 years. I've heard a lot of music, variations, and bands over the years. Even now, my husband plays in a traditional Irish Céilí band, with folk tunes, shanties, and other music from the British Isles thrown in. Your version of "the Wellerman" gave me goosebumps. I agree with another comment that said seeing and hearing actual Navy members in dress Whites (and great voices) made a huge difference in how they see the song. I know that your version is the one for me. Thank you for your hard work and your service.
Cool. Now play "Pirate of The Caribbean" (Metal covered)
Respect, powerful performance.
How do we have rock bands and jazz quartets but not a official Navy Sea Shanty .... CNO be the change you ask of us!
Excellent job! Way to stress the story elements in the lead vocal. Really the best version of this song I’ve heard.
1:15 in some versions they say she took that ship in tow, the sailors were the ones following, i love either version and enjoyed this thoroughly, liked subscribed and commented
Navy Air:
"Billy-o-tea, we have you sighted and have targeted the enemy on your port side."

Our beautiful defenders of freedom and democracy. 🫡🇺🇸
tell that to the chileans

I like this song but does it have to be about whaling.

U.S. Navy Band!!
Love the US Navy band 👏👏👏😘
1:26 sharp, is that you? 😂
This be a shanty
It sounds like a sweet dream!🌹🌹🌹
When theatre kids need health coverage....
This is better than the others I found. Is there an album?
GO NAVY ⚓
❤ 🇺🇸 💙
Bravo Navy🌊, go to Solar ocean🌌
I would like to request the following song:
"Think Of Me" from The Phantom of the Opera
Preferably, Amy Broadbent would be the best singer.
By the way, I watched the video of The United States Air Force Band - "Think Of Me" from The Phantom of the Opera. Vocals: Adrienne Kling.
i am one of the fan of Sea Chanters and i am Japanese living in Hiroshima city
How could a Navy choir not weigh in along with the rest of the world! 😁
Demais, essa Banda musical!
Sissy
The German’s still did it better. Let’s have the Navy Band do it on the USS Constitution during an underway, under full sail.
The USS Constitution is 'underway, under full sail' about once every one or two decades, but I suppose they could do it during one of the annual turnaround cruises.
The Germans version completely removes all references to whaling. They literally ruined this song by removing its historic context.
The German version is shamefully “woke” and they should be ashamed for doing it. It is an insult to the tradition of sea shanties and an historical and musical abomination.
Are these haircuts in regs in the navy?
Bravo Zulu shipmates! Go Navy Beat Army!
Really?, all of them are Gold chevron Petty Officers?, when did enlisted ranks get to wear gold belt buckles with dress whites? SM2 Lopez 1974-78
Now lets go Wellermann with the US Navy
I was discharged from the Navy 35 years ago. The first thing I thought about when I saw this was why are they outside without their covers on. 😂
I think this is just their propaganda of trying to make up for the commander with the messed up rifle incident, clearly they're still messing up
🤣
Soon may the Kittyman come!
I will wait for the rum --GREAT thx rollf
Save this, you will cry for it in the 41st millennium
I love navy songs!❤❤
It's not a navy song.
Oh wow!
Amazing songs choice 🇩🇪😅❤💃🕺
SENSACIONAL 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Wow!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cool
nice
There ARE other shanties you know. This was NOT the only one written or even sung. 😁😁
The best for last
2024!!!! Beat Notre Dame!
Of course you need the navy band to sing it. It’s only appropriate.
But it's not a Navy song.
Magnific
If you are interested: A German navy choir also performed Wellerman 3 years ago. You can find the video on the "Bundeswehr Exclusive" channel or here: ua-cam.com/video/9glmFdnp9G8/v-deo.htmlsi=5ymIemNq7GVpaZox
If you want to see how “wokeness” ruins everything it touches, you MUST listen to the German Aboination of this song. They literally ran this song into a reef and then intentionally set fire to its rigging.
❤
👍👍👍🤛🙏🦅😎🇺🇸
go army
👏👏👏👏
🐋🇺🇸🦅⚓️💪🏻🫡
💪😃👍🇭🇷🇪🇺
This kind of misses the mark for me. It was too slow, and while the vocals were spot on it didn't have the resonance of being sung by a salty whaler. It's akin to a lounge singer trying to sing Highway to Hell by AC/DC while playing the piano.
Needs a beefier beat, it needs to be more forceful like a fist on a table
I can imagine someone flying a pirate flag on a destroyer...
Nah
Little did they know...the whale was actually a sub, the singers a Tin Can, and the Wellerman an UNREP.
Probably all claim to Seals
My tax dollars are paying for this? Why aren't these people swabbing a deck or something?
That was so cringe. Wasted 2 min of my life listening to them.
you look like you fight
bravi sicuramente ma non esaltatevi e un mercantile non una nave Pirata! LOL
YUCK
Are they on steroids? Calm down a lil bit...😂
