Niqulus VIII - You are so right. I've seen so many interviews of Carlin and starting in the 90s he began not being afraid to tell people they were morons for just accepting things at face value. He was of the opinion that you can believe whatever you want but only as long as you came to that decision yourself after careful thought and not just because someone told you that you should.

Sir, as an older parent with grown children, serious props to you on your parenting skills. A teachable moment came up that gave you the opportunity to explain George Carlin's point of view to your son, and explain why it was just as valid as your own, and how different points of view can exist in the world. You were there and aware in that moment and were able to articulate to your son when your son wondered why someone could think that way. Most people couldn't be bothered to try. Serious props to you.

Clergy is uncomfortable with critical thinking, not religion. My religion encourages it, but then again we have no clergy either.
George Carlin went to Catholic School his whole life and had religion shoved down his throat. That’s why he has a aggressive view on the Bible. According to his book.
He also mentioned in one of his earlier comedy specials that the catholic school was experimenting with a new progressive approach to education that offered so much freedom that it kinda made questioners out of them.

George Carlin told it how it is and most of its true to this day Yet sometimes it seems like its not all comedy and more kind of in somewhat rather mean type of bad taste comedy But so truthful in so many ways but I do prefer the his list of about a hundred different phrases he made up.To bad he couldn't of used his angry jokes in a different type of erena yet he probably couldn't get away with it beyond anywhere away from his own platform.it well probably take a few more people with a little more calmness to themselves in a type way to were someone else could actually get some smart talk going and he's done this type talk comedy series for a long time and it wasn't payed attention to in a type serious matter that should of for a type better understanding with bad life lies going on. Depends within what context they are challenged.
I am an educated man, and I am very knowledgeable in many areas, but when I am challenged, I readily accept the conversation. One has to try hard to convince me, and I admit that I have made an ass out of myself a few times, but I will listen to any person's complete argument before I make any judgement. Most grown people think that they are in the top 99%. I am not one of these people.
Yes, a person's character is judged not on how they sit in luxury (not being challenged on their beliefs) but how they stand in adversity (their reactions to a differing perspective that challenges their ideas). Though, there IS a difference between being "challenged" and being insulted. George Carlin was extremely intelligent, but very aggressive in the language he used to express himself and at times seems to be insulting when he is merely asking you to think. You guys always have very good reactions and understand that nothing should shake your faith, but you. Good job. God bless.
As a child whose father was absent, as well as an absent mother, the way you lit up when your daughter came in. The way you greeted her, both warmed and broke my heart. It's colored with a little bit of jealousy but I am *so dang happy* that you're there for your kids this way. It's the most wholesome and wonderful thing I have ever seen.
Edit: I truly honestly feel like with the intelligent conversation you are having with your son, if he came up and said "Man, I really don't feel like religion is for me." you might ask him to talk about it - but I don't think you'd ever outcast your son for it. Goodness I *love* the fact that you are encouraging him to see from multiple perspectives, that is a skill that is less and less these days, and goes hand in hand with Empathy.

I love that George Carlin had all these specials memorized. He fancied himself more a philosopher and writer than comedian. He was truly profound.

That is the greatest thing that I loved about George Carlin and his specials and when he did stand up comedy.
He not only entertained, but also educated as well, made you think about what he discussed on stage.
George would have been really proud of your responses to his comedy, because he wanted to get people talking, and thinking about things they probably never thought of before. He was big on getting us all to think critically, and never accept things at face value. He was definitely one of the greats.

Some people have never heard criticism at all, and actually feel afraid hearing like they are doing something wrong against their god listening to it. @@The512Dude The book was actually called " Mans Search for Meaning" written by Viktor Frankl and it was about the German concentration camps that held and exterminated Jews. Carlin was referencing American concentration camps that held Americans of Japanese decent after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

How about questioning the shape of the Earth. Everyday life experience tells you it's flat but people get aggressively defensive about it being a globe. They're like grown children still believe in Santa claus. As a kid you were told the tooth fairy is real, Santa claus is real, and the globe is real. Later on they told you the tooth fairy and santa claus are fake but they forgot to tell you the globe is fake. We were dooped. This only the second video of yours I've watched but seeing how Carlin struck home with him and opened some doors in his mind and the way he processed that information was great! Keep feeding that guy out of the box knowledge that makes him think, because I can see him going places!
One thing about Carlin....agree or disagree with him, he does make you think. He makes you take the blinders off.
I've seen a lot of response videos to George Carlin, but yours has to be one of the most thoughtful ones. I often think of George in his old age as a philosopher or social commentator who used comedy to help make his points. You may or may not agree with all of his points, but I don't think you can just passively watch him. If you're a thinking person, you will think about what he's saying and have a response even if it's just to explain in detail why you disagree.
This is how to be a Dad. Positive, thoughtful, listens to and encourages his son to think. “Question everything.” No thanks to the welfare state, too many families are missing this essential support. Good job!

It's important to note that his whole point about rights wasn't whether or not God is real, it wasn't an anti-Christian rant, his point was that even if God is, in fact, real, he isn't the one that made op our "rights", humans are, and they did so to control other humans while using God as an explanation and element of fear so that people won't ever question their "God-given rights".
We were born free, but for some reason, "God" made up a bunch of rights, that for some weird reason changes the moment you travel to another country. Hmmm.
Both your daughter and son got a little defensive (while still laughing) about his comments on Christianity, which is fair, but they should know that even though Carling didn't believe in religion and made fun of it in his stand up he also stated several times throughout his life that he respects everyone's opinion and have no personal ill will towards any Christians or other religions.
As you saw in this bit and the one you watched with your daughter, his problem was primarily with the people abusing religion and gaining power by doing so, the church taking peoples money, pastors keeping it for themselves, without having to pay taxes, the government using religion to create laws and rights to control people, by using the "God" excuse, etc.
As people say, Carlin was a philosopher posing as a comedian.

She said George believed their was something/some kind of intelligence, and he called it The Big Electron.

We have changed our definition of "Nothing" in space in physics. Since the discovery of gauge symmetry the vaccuum of empty space end up not being empty but if theres a void of "nothing" theres a quantum foam that virtual particle pairs appear from then annihilare to nothing/ energy density in the field of nothing. Even in our idea of purely nothing, theres still an instrinsic quantum field throughout the universe , because its a scalar field. Also 95% of the universe is energy and energy we can't measure, we can only observe the gravitation around it and find it by the gravity clumps in deep space. There was no before the big bang. before is a time statement. if time started with the big bang it couldn't exist before its own creation. Keep in mind that time and space are connected like electricity and magnetism. the SpaceTime and Electromagnetic permeations of the universe. If you go the speed of light. the maximum. time goes to zero. or if you freeze something in space to absolute zero, it doesnt experience time. but it still passes. Same reason a magnet causes an electric field, and electricity flowing as a field creates a magnet. Time didn't exist before the big bang. All thats known is there is a singularity where everything came from, and 300,000 years after that event, electron density was cold enough to see light and we can measure it. Its the Cosmic microwave background radiation. its a big bang remnant. but NO ONE, not even the physics I know can make any statement of value to measure before the big bang. All is known that the space, and energy density reaches infinity with our current equations. so we need better methods of measuring, like gravity wave radar.
Still doesn't mean that god did it. It doesnt mean he didn't cause it either. No statement can be made about supernatural things in science, it can only deal with the natural. But odds are against magic and universal law breaking plans needed to cause an existence of omnipotence and omnipresent deities.

If there is or was anything before and beyond the big bang it is external to this universe and superfluous to it. Time and space began with the big bang, but the stuff that fills it was already there.
It should raise a red flag with believers, at least, but it doesn't. They've been trained to make illogical excuses for it to the point where their brains refuse to function properly when thinking about that.

I find it charming that you actually try to explain to your son the comedy he didn't pick up on with abstracts of his world (Basketball, LeBron, he obviously cherishes a lot). But to cut him a slack: He is young. Very young as it seems. You as his father have the age, the context, the experience to pick up on those fine little needles, Carlin used to riddle his routines with. When I was the age of your son, I also had very different things to focus on - comedy was not always among them. So give it maybe another 5 to 10 years, and he'll appreciate what he just heard :)
I am a devoted Christian but at 56 yrs old. I still ENJOY listening to George Carlin. He was definitely an atheist. But, he was a great comedian till this day!!

It's because of Carlin, Lenny Bruce, etc.. that my generation had a voice. Music had gone commercial and comedy was our shouting.
One of the saddest things is that people only care when their rights are being taken away but will stand by and watch another person have theirs taken as long as they were someone with a different opinion or beliefs not knowing that the more you stand by and watch when it comes down to you having your rights taken away others will do the same because all these things happening especially recently are only bringing ppl farther and farther apart and the media and so called movement for equality or peace don’t realize the damage their really doing

Just look at the capitol riots for example of that. People only care about their rights when it affects them directly and personally. When in reality, we should all be equally pissed off at the elite, at the same time, regardless of our differences.

This was an amazing experience with the two of you and the difference in how each were schooled. As a former teacher many years ago now I and others observed that the goal was to have children follow and not question. Teachers who wanted their students to use their brains and to question everything were being accused of unbelievable things eventually left and were replaced by teachers who would also do as told and not question. So here were are today, MANY wondering how did our country get this way while far too MANY think America is great because their leader says so.
Ultimately his job was to make you think. Mission accomplished!

"God made all things equal, leave it to man to decide which ones aren't" is a quote from the movie beautiful creatures that has stuck with me as a kid and now that im an adult I view religion in a whole different light. At Christianity's core and what Jesus intended it to be is what makes it a beautiful thing- but it has historically been used to force people into converting by the Roman's and has gone through countless revisions throughout its existence, yet marks everybody else's religion as false an unholy. Because God has no definite image but his children, that leads me to believe that in all regions in the world he would present himself in a way this is familiar to them. For Christianity it was jesus, for the east it was Buddha an so forth. All religion is meant to call you back to spirit and to love your neighbor❤💪🏽

George makes you THINK!!! He makes you think about everyday things as well as deep things. Have you watched his performance on "THINGS THAT MAKE US SIMILAR" OR on "STUFF" Those are both normal everyday things that we don't really think about, but he points them out and you go, OH YEAH!! That's TRUE! THose two are very funny. It's some of his "lighter" observations. George was a GENIUS!! He made you and your son have a GREAT conversation. THAT is his ultimate goal. It may SOUND like he doesn't care about anything, but the truth is, George CARED about EVERYTHING and about the human condition. I have been a fan of him since 1964 when I was 17 years old. I MISS him so much. I can just imagine what he would have to say about things today. RIP George, you were ONE OF A KIND.

I would love to see a reaction video to what you learned when you googled "Japanese Americans 1942". Then after that please react to the "US 442nd Infantry Regiment". A WW2 regiment made completely of Japanese-Americans who volunteered even after they were put in the internment camps. And they went on to become the most decorated US regiment of the entire war. True heroes even though their country didn't want them to be. Love your channel btw!

George Carlin is soooo good he can make you laugh AND make you think. Never heard of another comedian that could do something like that.
