  • For the second time I made a visit to the Severn Valley Railway's Autumn Steam Gala, held over the 24-26 September. I went on the Saturday, although I had been intending to go on the Friday evening and experience the all-night running which the Gala is renowned for. As part of the Railway's 40th anniversary year celebrations, the line hired in a couple of locomotives which were once resident on the line. The Final line up was:
    Visiting:
    |GWR 2251 'Collett Goods' 0-6-0 3205 (Visiting from the South Devon Railway, was one of the first locomotives on the line and hauled the inaugural train in 1970)
    |LMS 5XP 'Jubilee' 4-6-0 5690 'Leander' (Visiting from Carnforth, was based at the line during the 1970s and 1980s)
    |GWR 'City' 4-4-0 3717 'City of Truro' (Visiting from the Gloucestershire / Warwickshire Railway
    |SR Unrebuilt 'Battle of Britain' 4-6-2 34070 'Manston' (Visiting from the Swanage Railway)
    |GWR 4575 'Small Prairie' 2-6-2T 5542 (Visiting from the Gloucestershire / Warwickshire Railway, brought in to cover for the unavailable 42968)
    Resident:
    |GWR 78xx 'Manor' 4-6-0 7802 'Bradley Manor'
    |GWR 78xx 'Manor' 4-6-0 7812 'Erlestoke Manor'
    |GWR 5101 'Large Prairie' 2-6-2T 5164
    |GWR 45xx 'Small Prairie' 2-6-2T 4566
    |GWR 57xx 'Pannier' 0-6-0PT 5764
    |LMS 2MT 'Mickey Mouse' 2-6-0 46443 (Ran night trains only, not featured)
    |LMS 4MT 'Flying Pig' 2-6-0 43106 (Ran night trains only, not featured)
The plan I eventually ended up following was:
    |0925 Kidderminster -- Bewdley (34070)
    |1120 Bewdley -- Arley (5690)
    |Walk to Northwood Halt
    |1307ish Northwood Halt -- Hampton Loade (5164)
    |1533 Hampton Loade -- Bridgnorth (5764)
    |1620 Bridgnorth -- Kidderminster (34070)
It was a thoroughly enjoyable event, with perfect weather on the Saturday, although the intense sun at the beginning of the day did ruin a few of my shots. This, combined with the fact that I was selective in what I filmed to try and conserve my battery, resulted in there only being enough footage to put into one 13 minute video, this being my first utilization of the new 15 minute limit for videos. PLEASE NOTE, ALL VIDEOS WERE TAKEN FROM LEGAL POSITIONS
    Highlights include:
    3205: Hampton Loade, Kidderminster
    3717: Trimpley Reservoir
    34070: Hampton Loade
    4566: Victoria Bridge, Kidderminster
I would like to thank the Severn Valley Railway for putting on such a brilliant event, the owning groups of 3205, 5690, 3717, 34070 and 5542 for allowing the locomotives to participate in the event, and you for taking your time to watch this video.
