Great review and photography. One thing to note, you should be glad they went with an NH35 over NH38 even on a no-date dial. Due to the lack of the day/date mechanism in the NH38, the stem has to be cut at perfect length to avoid issue with stem engagement. There are numerous reports of the stem cut too long/short on Seiko-powered watches, and nearly all of them are related to NH38. Too long means gap between crown and case; too short and the hacking won't restart until you screw in the crown further. I have modded and built numerous watches and was always religious about using an NH38 with no-date dials, but after having repeated issue with stem engagement (or settled with gap) and seeing other Seiko modders share their same experience, I now just use NH35 with all builds. I can't give you a technical reasoning as to why, but with the NH35 multiple engaging points, there is some give to error in the stem cuts. Alot of microbrands and even the Aliexpress brands that once used NH38 in some of their models have slowly moved away from it. It's not due to laziness and the NH38 costing more on Aliexpress is mainly due to availability as much less sellers carrying it. NH38 is the same price or cheaper than NH35 on US based stores. There is no real disadvantage when using NH35 on a non-date dial other than the knowing that there's an unused function. I really like your review videos and just wanted to offer this information, so you don't come off like the rest of other reviewers or the casual redditors repeatedly pointing out this misinformed "negative".
Thanks for sharing that wealth of knowledge! I never knew that about the NH38. That definitely gives more insight into why brands aren’t really using them on no-date watches. Thanks so much for watching!
I've got this one for more than one year ans it's as good as it looks. Only + 6 sec/ day no scratchs. appeared , very comfurtable to wear. the bezel have a little play and i think thats its bigger default. And the screw down crown ... so soft !!!! I take very much pleasure wearing it !
Excellent review and I am in total agreeance with your conclusions. It has its flaws but the sum of its parts is just too good to ignore . Nice work my friend ;)
fantastic watch I have been buying homage/clomage watches and making a collection for 2 years now Chinese watches are really stepped up their game! Great video sir!
So this watch came and the AR coating is not an issue - cannot see any problematic blue. What I did was a buy a San Martin Pepsi (SN0109) and fitted it with the aftermarket jubilee-style bracelet (ND0128) which freed up the San Martin oyster style bracelet. I converted that bracelet to have on-the-fly adjustment with the San Martin clasp BK1642, and then put it on this Thorn watch (using the Thorn end links). Works beautifully!! The slightly thicker and heavier San Martin bracelet balances the watch head a bit better. Also it avoids all those pesky Thorn bracelet adjustment issues with their fiddly screws.
They must have fixed the AR on the crystal. Great idea replacing the bracelet with the SM one, I didn’t know that would fit. You just took this watch to the next level!
Looks amazing for the price. I wish I had waited on Thorn before I got my Pagani. The size seems more fitting to my slender wrist. Quite versatile watch you can rock everyday!
Ok the watch arrived, I was a little picky about the blue AR quoting and bracelet. But the crazy thing is I fell In Love with this watch. It’s perfect and I actually put a black rubber strap on it. It’s perfect
Hey Harvind. Another great video. Really impressed with the work you do. Two adjustment holes doesn’t seem that bad, assuming it adds up to a least half a link. More would be better. I hate it when a watch has no micro adjustments.
Thanks, Eric. That means a lot! My wrist size always struggles with 2 micro adjustment positions. It’s always too tight or too loose, I can never dial in the perfect fit. I hate no micro adjustment clasps too. That’s why I avoid buying watches with a butterfly clasp, no matter how nice they are.
@@WristWatching same here. And it may be one of the reasons I tend to go for a leather or NATO over a metal bracelet. If it’s slightly tight, I know leather will expand and have a little give to it over time. Stainless steel has very little give. 😀
I’ve got this piece coming in soon. I’m going to play around with this one and see if I can fit a different clasp. As for the crystal I plan to pop it off and remove the AR then put it back on. No AR coating for that true vintage look! 😂 Edit: Didn't find the AR coating offensive so left it on.
I just received mine... quality is ok. The bracelet and the bezel action feel cheap and you can feel sharp hedges all over the watch. The price is fair.. We are far from the real thing but has I said it still worth it if you like the BB58 look
I just got the Octopus Kraken BB58 and oh my word, it's probably the closest we're going to get to the real thing. Review of that coming out in a couple of weeks!
Great video, I’ve already subscribed, kudos to your effort in producing a professional video, you can appreciate this from the intro music that goes with the images rhythm, or the other way around 😅. The AR may be a deal breaker for me as I’m obsessed with looking at a perfect (black) dial and the reflections may get in the way. I may look into the Octopus version, although pricier, it may have the whole package. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! I’ll be honest, I’m the same when it comes to black dials, so that blue AR really bugged me. The Octopus Kraken version seems to be the best made BB58 homage out there. It’s a bit pricier, but I’ve heard it’s well worth the asking price for the quality you get.
Just ordered with the Mercedes hands and 3,6,9 dial. I think I’ll find myself wearing it more than my Tudor, I just wish it had a an aluminum bezel insert, wonder if there are any replacements out there. Also the clasp is less than ideal but it appears to be an amazing watch
Definitely a good stand in for your Tudor! An aluminium bezel would really set this off. You might find some luck on AliExpress, check if there are sellers stocking inserts with the same measurements.
I totally agree with you, i couldnt get a good fit thanks to the 'short' clasp. I find that the lume isnt great but okay and the lume application on the hand isnt great whereby the glow from the indices is stronger
@@WristWatching I am waiting for those normal Rolex aftermarket clasp and see if it can fit and as of now, I just swap out the entire bracelet with the Pagani Design bb58 GMT and it fits perfectly since the size of the female end link is the same, 9mm. Am using the endlink from thorn and the rest of the bracelet from Pagani Design LOL
I received mine about a month ago and I paid less than a hundred bucks. Strangely however, my case is less than 38mm. I like the watch, but it is too small. In fact, my students pointed out how small it was on my wrist - and they are not aware of wrist proportion at all.
That’s a killer deal! I measured it multiple times, and I keep getting 38mm at the case and 39mm at the bezel. Not sure if Thorn is using different cases for different batches.
Got one of these. Pleased with the finishing but its obviously unregulated, gains about 1 minute a day and the beat error is appalling. Shame its got the rolex back so I cant regulate it myself.
Depends on what you want more in a watch. The SM has a better bracelet and clasp, but I prefer the dial and hands on this. The cream yellow accents also look better to me than the darker yellow on the SM.
I got one for $10. I only replaced the top part that has the holes for adjustments and the spring piece inside. I kept the folding part that came with the original Thorn. Basically took off the Top that has the two holes and replaced it with the new one that has the five holes.
I have also ordered mine from watchdives to Germany. They offer 5€ shipping with VAT included post shipping somehow. Maybe they have an option like that for UK as well.
Hi when you size the bracelet... What happens when you unscrew one side, does the other one just fall out or? I held two screwdrivers and managed to unscrew the small screw on one side but the other stayed in place and now I can't pull it out. How do you do this
You can use a small sharp tool or pin to push the longer screw out. It might just be a bit stuck in there because of dust or grime, but it should come out with a gentle nudge from the side your small screw came out from.
@@WristWatchingthanks, will try again later today. I jammed thin screwdriver ine there but it did not reach other side to push it out. May have damaged the threads in the process. Will use a needle or something later. Everyone said it is double threaded but it made no sense. Thanks for the reply
@@wootwoot9664 Yeah once either side is removed, the other side should pop right out. Test it on one of your other links to see if it works. Good luck!
I don’t think there’s a homage on AliExpress for that, at least as far as I’m aware of. Pagani Design has the fluted bezel PD-1645, but I’m not aware of any polished bezel variants.

I think it should be less of a problem on watches with screw down crowns as the spring loaded crown tube will compensate for the +- of the stem.

I just bought this watch. Completely agree, terrific watch. By far the best BB58 homage. It’s shockingly good for the money.
It’s incredible how much quality we can get for $150 nowadays. Enjoy wearing your new Thorn!
Is it really 38mm? Cuz the Amazon listing said it was 39 and others said 40
@@monkelover2056 The case is 38m. The bezel slightly overhangs the case, I measured the bezel at 39mm.
