Try the Garlos curry pie. Once again a bit expensive for a frozen pie, but the best curry pie I have tasted for a long time. I buy as individual u its and cook in the oven. Yummy
That sucks that it wasn't good, but now I know. I'm having for dinner tonight " Mrs Mac's loaded roast of the day pies", they are really nice , chunks of meat, mashed potatoes and mushy peas. They are great, try them next Grego. Oh and they aren't dry.😊
I used to buy the Garlos single serve chunky steak pies in plastic wrappers from woolworths and they were always really good, a bit expensive though. Maybe they have changed the ingredients for these more commercialised versions
When a recipe is made for mass production it's made for either fresh or frozen. Sometimes a fresh food recipe isn't suitable for frozen, so the ingredients and method have to be changed accordingly.
Yikes. Like most things, once i started making my own pies, i can't even look at the frozen ones. That looked dreadful. Appreciate you consuming sawdust so we don't have to :)
Competitively priced with Herbert Adams pies. It's the going price for a two pack of frozen pies. Bakery could cost up to and beyond $6 for a decent fresh hot pie.
Thanks GregO, we have had these in Coles (and now Wollies) in NSW for a long time. Not the best pies around, next time try to nuk-it to defrost then in the air fryer for upto 5-6 minutes. I think the air fryer dries it out somewhat if from frozen (especially for 20-25 minutes). Keep up the good work.
I used to buy these from a Garlo shop, when they were supposedly freshly made. They tasted pretty good. These frozen ones taste like crap. Even when they're on special at Woolies, I don't buy them anymore.

typical for meat pies with just an air fryer, the airfryer overcooks the outside and the inside is cold. what you always need to do with pies is put the air fryer on high for 10 minutes and then finish it off in the microwave for 2 minutes, let it rest for another 2 minutes, that way the outside and the inside are evenly cooked. the way you did it the crust is like a cracker and the inside is at best room temp, that's why you spit it out, bet.
I bought these before I saw the review - unfortunately. Had them last night - truly the most awful pie I have ever had. Dry, tasteless and bad after taste. Greg's review is right on the money!

You should go to Woollies, in the fridge section where they might have their little brand soups, but not the freezer section, they have 'Proper National Pies' made in Tasmania. Real good Aussie pies I say, well for store bought anyway, the curry chicken is yum, the beef one too !! give them a go you mug ! lol. They are heaps better looking than those. If you do, cooking them in the airfryer is great.

I had the same disappointment when trying these. Dry and chewy indeed. But yes Grego like someone else said. Always take off the foil before cooking.. Not that it would’ve saved these very average ones. I’m pretty sure Garlo’s have some better pies in their range 🥧 A good number of years ago Garlo’s tried to crack the US market 🇺🇸 with Aussie meat pies. No great surprises how that went..
That looked like the Kalahari Desert under the lid. There are mummified remains that have more moisture than that pie. Not keen on pastry that is like a Jatz cracker and filling that tastes like beef chewing gum.
