i like how videos in this channel arent just about the classic cars themselves, but also about the passion that motivates people to dedicate themselves to preserving a piece of history.
MotorMavens I wouldn't mind not finding a stock one. I would just work on resetting it back to its true form. I just need to get my hands on one and start working on it. Being a broke college kid is the worst...I have a better chance at getting myself an FRS/BRZ/GT86.
I have to admit to being a bit jealous, but I'll settle for my 1992 AE93. It may be FWD, but it has that amazing smallport 4AGE, and while I can't really drift it, it's still a whole lot of fun on a twisty mountain road. Much respect to you for keeping these classics looking and sounding good, and most of all at not leaving them hidden in a garage 365 days a year. Enjoy!
MotorMavens Hahaha I do actually, but I think shipping it from Australia may be a little expensive, and plus I think it's warped, so I don't know if it's any good, will have to get it checked soon, it was on an engine that was doing 3750rpm or so, driving at 110km/h (about 68mph) on a day it was well over 40 degrees C (over 100 degrees F) and one of the radiator hoses split, sending all the coolant out in only a few moments. So there is a change that head is too far warped and may even be cracked, I have not had it checked yet, but I know it's warped that much that you can see it no longer was flush with the block... Poor smallport :(
+Troy Wilkins ahhh i just found a smallport 4AG head for sale in Florida, and it's now being ported by the builder of the fastest AE86 in the world, PSI Racing!
That last bit hit me hard as I'm sitting here at my work desk thinking about my ride that I only get a few hours to turn wrenches on a week yet it consumes my mind all of the time.
john wilson LOL right! but these particular cars weren't influenced by Initial D. Besides, tofu isn't recommended for men. It has high levels of estrogen. haha
+john wilson Same here! Maybe I'm just a typical scrub to true AE86 people, but Initial D really made me lust after these cars. Perhaps on my trip to Japan, I'll try to bring one back.
As the owner of an 88 MR2 AW11, which I wrench on, rev high and daily drive every day, it makes me happy to see love for these cars and to see how strong the 4A-GE still is after all these years. These cars take minimal effort to get the most rewarding driving experience. You just cannot recreate it in modern vehicles. So basic and so rewarding. Drive safe!
That was my first car I bought when I was 16. I drove it all through high school. I could easily fit seven or eight friend in there. The summer before I went to college a friend and I raced it in amateur events at the Riverside Park Speedway in Massachusetts. They closed the track at the end of that year. We did a Halloween race and turned it into a alien UFO with cardboard and bondo. Great memoirs. Thanks for the video.
I'm not tuning or drifting fanatic. But I adore such simply & fun to drive cars. She has everything to give you deep joy of driving - RWD, little 'state of art' engine, enough power for most roads, silk gearchange, predictable and fun roadholding, good sound and - the most important - this lovely, unobstructed & natural feeling of driver-to-car chit-chat: I'm taking to Car with easy and the Car is taking to me clearly. Nothing else is needed actually.
i haven't even seen one in real life, in my country there are less than 50 of these... I LOVE it, i love all about it, it's simplicity, it's sound, everything, this has a special charm that just a few cars have, and that makes me love it soo much. Please have fun with them and don't keep them stuck at a garage please. This has been a nice video, but too short! :)
I absolutely LOVE this video and as a car guy of 46 years I have a personal appreciation for it because I also owned 2 of these; an 85 and 87. What I'd give to get my hands on another one someday and fix it up right!
Reached my dream last week, bought an 86 Levin Kouki. Congrats for the video! Hope one day my passion for the car culture bleeds into my day job too :)
There is something about the pure utilitarian designs of the 80s that I really love. Really nice subtle mods here, nothing over the top, I dig 'em both! Of course, the Initial D connection can't be overlooked, that just makes me want one even more. I guess I'll just have to settle for my now classic imported Bit Char-G AE86 until I can justify a second car. Another great video, keep up the awesome work!
comradeboris ahhhh Bit Char G!!! You must have bought that in the early 2000s, cause that's when those came out! I think I got mine in 2000 or 2001. very cool!
Indeed, I think I got it around 2001 or 2002, something like that. I regret not picking up more, especially the Auto Modellista set, they have all gotten really scarce and expensive. I will definitely never get rid of my Initial D 86 and FD. Cheers, keep on rocking!
Geeze, those are clean! Tastefully modified too, with a good color combo on both! Very jealous. I'm looking to get a white 1985 AE86 notchback one day, but finding a good, clean one is nearly impossible.
Great video. That is real car passion in my opinión. Everybody might start from a different point, different brand or type of car but important is the result. Exactly as Antonio shows in this clip. It doesn't have to be a very expensive piece of metal, it's about the passion and the fullfilling of a dream
Glad to see you still representing the 86 scene Antonio! I still have my Cipher Garage t-shirt from when I ordered a few off of you back in what, 2003?
My first teenage beater was an 84 GTS that had a tree fall on the back end (which is how I got it for $150). Didn't hurt it all that much, but it's the one car I really miss. It was underpowered, but the balance of the thing! Outside of snow, I never got the back end in front of me without purpose. I drove the snot out of it, got 40 mpg (when I was in 'gotta make it to payday' mode) and all I had to do was general maintenance to get her beyond 288K miles. It was still running when I obligated myself to a '90 240sx to get my knees off the dash, but had I the foresight...
49 years old here and bought one of these new. Regret getting rid of it but as a kid I always wanted the new thing. Traded it in for a fx16 wish I still had that too lol
i love watching this, i got my hatchi last year, she was literally a lucky find, everything stock 168k miles, she's my bae! i can't wait to go to 86fest
People often miss what's probably the greatest thing about these cars: their low-speed performance. You have to drive sports cars at hyper-legal speeds to have fun but an 86 with little more than the right springs, dampers, and tires can make 35mph damn exciting. It's too easy to over-tire an 86.
I love this car... The AE86, The Eight-Six, Hachi-Roku, Sprinter Trueno, Trueno, Sprinter, Levin, Corolla, Corolla Levin, Corolla GTS, GTS... those are all the ways I call an AE86. I'm so much into that car. The iconic engine, its sound... and drifting. The true Initial D Car🚦🚘🚗
They were surprisingly good cars back in the day. A Corolla GT won the British Touring Car Championship in 1986 & 1987 (Chris Hodgetts). AE86's were also popular rally cars.
Closest I ever got to these was an AE82 - still the same cracking engine ... For no reason that I've ever been able to explain, I turned down a chance of an import Sprinter Trueno, with the 20 valve engine (about 30bhp up on the 16 valve?). That would have been one HECK of a fun car to own ....
+Porsche9elfer Yeah but as I found with my MR2 the old style plugs are on most newer Toyota radios. So you can swap them when you're in the mood for better sound, cd and aux in. The best unit I've found was a Scion pioneer unit, it has hidden functions to adjust sound and display.
Used to be able to pick up a Ae86 for around $600 when I first started out driving, went on craigslist and I was shock for what they go for now. I used to have 5 of them, now I know what my dad feels like when he says he wish he would not have sold all his muscle cars when he was a kid.
I only recently discovered this car after being introduced to Initial-D about a year ago. (I know, where the hell have I been?) Regardless I have since then seen all the episodes as well as the movie and now hold the Hachi-Roku in the highest regard. Long live the greatest underdog to ever run a canyon road!!!!
I hope I can find a GTS they are so hard to find over on the east side of the U.S so obsessed with the 86 kouki .nice to know some are still in great condition and not rusting away.
***** If you're looking for a non rusty car, you want to try and look in the southwest states. Cali, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, etc. But the problem is, these will most likely have cracked dashboards and faded interiors. If you want clean interiors, you can get those from the northern states! That's my Protip of the day!
80s and 90s jdm cars are where its at personally i think this is the era when cars looked and performed the best. minimal technology, lightweight, and decent power, what more can you ask for!?
Steffen Simon LOL sucks that everyone thinks I look like Psy just cause I'm Asian with glasses and a fade. But hey, I do love Korean food. And Korean women. And I'd be down to cash Psy's baller paychecks so I can buy more AE86s. haha
Ahem please refer to him as the GREAT GENERAL AND LEADER KIM JONG-UN OF THE GREAT NATION OF NORTH KOREA THE BEST KOREA Or if you prefer I believe "Fuck Boy" is also the correct term
You own both a Zenki AND a Kouki Trueno?? I envy you sooo much, dude! I've been dreaming of owning a stock AE86 Levin for ages. But they're getting rarer than diamonds (especially the Zenki) Btw, big fan of Motormavens here. Keep up the good work
finally I've been waiting on an 86 episode, I figure it would have been you or Janet. would have been kewl for some sharp cornering on the video, the cars looked really really slow on the straight
That red 86. Well, I don't like Japanese car though, but i have to admit that that's one of the greatest car Japanese ever built. it looks great, feels great sounds great.
This is amazing, both of the cars are beautiful and goodluck to you in the future! I wish i could make my brz look more like an ae86 and make it look retro ish... /:
Grayson McLeod wow cool! what kind of Escort? Mk1? Mk2? I am so honored that they made a video about my cars, but I'm bummed that the shots showed my engine bays with my TRD and FET sparkplug wires looking MESSY!!!! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
i always liked those cars..back in 1987, i was working at a gas station and i revved one up and dropped the clutch and did a burn out across the parking lot..my boss chewed my ass out over that..being it was a customers car and all...
Actually in japan, they have different trim for Levin & Trueno (read: treno), the GT (base one), GT-V( more sporty), & last is GT-Apex which is the higher trim that come with power steering, & 2 different body style, the 3 door & 2 Door. believe it or not the kouki have a digital cluster tachometer & speedometer, but that only come in automatic ver. That's what I read on Japanese Magazine.
i like how videos in this channel arent just about the classic cars themselves, but also about the passion that motivates people to dedicate themselves to preserving a piece of history.
"I'm the victim of a good deal" Brilliant, going to use that one on my wife!
+Shahe haha awesome! OR find a secret place to stash your cars! :D
Shahe Haha!
My dream is to own an 86. I don't want it with anything special. I would keep it as stock as possible.
+Felix Gijón that's the hard part. Finding a stock one.
MotorMavens I wouldn't mind not finding a stock one. I would just work on resetting it back to its true form. I just need to get my hands on one and start working on it. Being a broke college kid is the worst...I have a better chance at getting myself an FRS/BRZ/GT86.
yup, it's cheaper to own an FRS/BRZ.
+MotorMavens Was that a 74 corrola model car?
+Felix Gijón Don't give up Felix. I got a Zenki coupe GT-S and still trying to make it nice. Struggling but don't wont to give up.
The kind of passion you have for the Hachi-Roku is what keeps classic cars and true car culture alive. Keep it up man!
+baiwldrnner thank you!
I have to admit to being a bit jealous, but I'll settle for my 1992 AE93. Very clean look. Too many guys do to much to these jdm classics.
+jo23bulls EXACTLY. less is more!
That last bit hit me hard as I'm sitting here at my work desk thinking about my ride that I only get a few hours to turn wrenches on a week yet it consumes my mind all of the time.
+Tony - Diana Fruzza that bit rang true for me too. had to escape my corporate job!
The ending describes my life now. Thinking about cars while at work all the time. 😢
+Kwezzy I should have said cars and wheels and music and chicks
I agree. Too many things that gain interest but work lol.
i was hoping for a mention of delivering tofu
john wilson LOL right! but these particular cars weren't influenced by Initial D.
Great video! I would love to see a documentary from you guys on the SA22C FB RX7.
+EXTREME SCALE PERFORMANCE RC hell yes! i bet something like that is in the works right now! :)
As the owner of an 88 MR2 AW11, which I wrench on, rev high and daily drive every day, it makes me happy to see love for these cars and to see how strong the 4A-GE still is after all these years.

Been a big fan of Antonio's work for a while now, it's nice to finally see a spotlight of his 86's and some of his life.
+Bryan Neary wow, thank you Bryan!!!
my first car was a 1987 toyota corolla FX16 GTS. awesome and bullet proof car. thanks for taking me back.
+rblbatb FX16 GTS, winner of the 1987 Olympus Rally!

met antonio last year at JCCS at their booth. nice guy and it's great to see his enthusiasm come through in this feature
no way!! I bought that book back when I was 12, I love looking back at the early days of drifting, always a great nostalgia kick
+m16a2m4 awesome!!!
I absolutely LOVE this video and as a car guy of 46 years I have a personal appreciation for it because I also owned 2 of these; an 85 and 87. What I'd give to get my hands on another one someday and fix it up right!
man, you have heart. a lot of heart..never forget your roots.
Reached my dream last week, bought an 86 Levin Kouki.
Congrats for the video! Hope one day my passion for the car culture bleeds into my day job too :)
These cars look really fun! It's a shame there's none that are in decent condition for sale in Australia :( I'll keep dreaming though!

DM_SSX///M thank you!
+MotorMavens Great story. Fabulous blog. Keep doing you!
I'm so happy you made a video on the AE86s :)
I can seat and watch your videos all day. keep up the great work!
This is just another masterpiece from both sides. Petrolicious and you Mr. Alvendia
Great video. That is real car passion in my opinión. Everybody might start from a different point, different brand or type of car but important is the result. Exactly as Antonio shows in this clip. +Lloyd Leonard wowwwwwww! OG!!!!
i feel you man! i drive and love my AE86 everyday. i understand your passion and live it.
+Hachi Roku YESSSS
I fell in love with this car before I ever heard of Initial D, but the more I learn about the movement and culture, the more I love it.
Too Fast Too Furious. I grew up around these cars in Puerto Rico in 1985-86 everyone owned one. I am 42 now and nostalgic about owning one.
This should be a full length doc. Just so clean. 5/5
+khilssu1 hmmm... maybe a good idea?
As always this video just blows us away! great work.
Another great video from Petrolicious! A car I knew nothing about previously, too. Thanks Antonio!

I love the ae86!! It is one of my dream cars and i'm so jealous to see that someone has 5 of them.
Omgflyingerbil haha only 2 of them are clean (for now)
Liked the video before even watching it. Incredible job as always!
+Tsugitsugi Ärrä arigato!

+hotrodsurplus you are EXACTLY right. good point!!!!
The background for the interview is really cool - all shelving and memorabilia!!
+MotorMavens "A memento that got you into car culture." - I love this line, it shows how you respect your roots. cheers!
+SR7eventyone thank you!
I knew some of those shots seemed familiar! You wrote an article for Speedhunters on 86 day
+leo3k yes, several!
The true Initial D Car🚦🚘🚗

they remind me of the early to mid 80's celicas we got in the US. I had an 86 Celica and I effing loved that car.
if you live the 86 life, why have you not subbed to laowhy86?
We meet again C-Milk!
Lol love your vids on China
Finally a video about the car I own. I loved it.
+Ean M. hellyea!
Miss my 86 for sure!! Maybe it's time to go hunting for one. It is a 4 seater so the wifey can't complain much....
Always wanted one of these. Wish it was possible to find a GTS model that isn't overpriced
Cassette tape deck in background. . . now that's living the 80's life!
+Porsche9elfer yesss each of these cars have different OEM Toyota cassette tape decks, period appropriate to the year of the cars!
+MotorMavens Many kudos to you for keeping that period-correctness in check! Keeping the '86 in the 86!
Used to be able to pick up a Ae86 for around $600 when I first started out driving, went on craigslist and I was shock for what they go for now. I used to have 5 of them, now I know what my dad feels like when he says he wish he would not have sold all his muscle cars when he was a kid.
The supreme leader's car collection is very impressive!
kim Jong-un turned out to be a pretty cool guy..
+Bruno Oliveira uh, thanks?
MotorMavens All fun and games. No disrespect intended. Let me know if you want it down. And congratulations on the 86's.
Love the 86. I would mod them up just like he did too.
+DJ MotoVlogs do it! :)
MotorMavens 1gz AE86 ?
I hope I can find a GTS they are so hard to find over on the east side of the U.S so obsessed with the 86 kouki .nice to know some are still in great condition and not rusting away.
***** If you're looking for a non rusty car, you want to try and look in the southwest states. Cali, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, etc. But the problem is, these will most likely have cracked dashboards and faded interiors. If you want clean interiors, you can get those from the northern states! That's my Protip of the day!
MotorMavens THANKS! I'll give them a try and prob just swap interiors from a northern state one
80s and 90s jdm cars are where its at personally i think this is the era when cars looked and performed the best. minimal technology, lightweight, and decent power, what more can you ask for!?
i love this 86 car since i was a kid and i wish one day i have this 86 car...
Another real car guy! Great stuff.
Antonio is one of the hardest working men in the 86 game
+T.J. Keon wuttup TJ! thank you!
Lovely cars. Makes me wish I still had my '92 Corolla GT-S.
+PurityofEssence AE92 with kouki hicomp 4AG is great
1:24 I didn't know Kim Jong-Un was into cars...
You mean PSY
Ja!ja!ja!
Steffen Simon LOL sucks that everyone thinks I look like Psy just cause I'm Asian with glasses and a fade. But
hey, I do love Korean food. And Korean women. And I'd be down to cash
Psy's baller paychecks so I can buy more AE86s. haha
Ahem please refer to him as the GREAT GENERAL AND LEADER KIM JONG-UN OF THE GREAT NATION OF NORTH KOREA THE BEST KOREA
Or if you prefer I believe "Fuck Boy" is also the correct term
They are just jealous , great leader.
Love this! I've got a 4age from one of these in my AE72!
Mad respect to any dude that got a signed copy of Mos Def's "Black on Both Sides" on their wall.
The AE86 is a complete legend
+Ian Townsend yesssss
Awesome video! Keep up the good work👌🏼
When you look like PSY but AE86 is life
Clean cars, makes me want to get my red Zenki Hatch going again.
i loved this video!! I share that passion for cars and know that feeling of enjoying a car you love. For me it's a Suzuki Swift Gt
I see Mos Def in the background, great taste in music not only in cars :)
+Dante Gonxhja good eye!
Must be a passionate love for simplicity of 80's era balanced car.
Great video once again! Gotta love 86's!
Love your style man! Keep it original!
+Giancarlo Eiras hellyea!
Literally my favourite drifting car
Awesome video, good job! I bought my 86 gts bone stock and did some suspension work but yesterday it got hit and run 😢
The red with those gold wheels is delicious!
You own both a Zenki AND a Kouki Trueno?? I envy you sooo much, dude! I've been dreaming of owning a stock AE86 Levin for ages. But they're getting rarer than diamonds (especially the Zenki)
Btw, big fan of Motormavens here. Keep up the good work
fantastic cars. I have a miata but this is car is one of my favorites. I would love to have one.
Now i know why people refer to the different S14 styles as Zenki and Kouki, great fact
+Kieren Rogers yup!
As always, good content and presentation. Looking forwars to your videos.
finally I've been waiting on an 86 episode, I figure it would have been you or Janet. would have been kewl for some sharp cornering on the video, the cars looked really really slow on the straight
Fred86 Dude. These cars ARE really really slow. I'm trying to lose more weight so my cars can become faster while remaining "smog legal" hahaha
LOL I know, I own one. Don't change a thing these cars are dope the way they are.
Dude this cars is just awesome! Congratulations! :)
Nice ride, i remember those and good story too.
aleo corona thank u!
What's the music a 0:30 please?
btw i'm a new subscriber and you channel is awesome! with beautiful stories and quality of filming
That red 86. Well, I don't like Japanese car though, but i have to admit that that's one of the greatest car Japanese ever built. it looks great, feels great sounds great.
박휘수 thanks man!
Love the design of the car! So 1980s! :)
This is amazing, both of the cars are beautiful and goodluck to you in the future! I wish i could make my brz look more like an ae86 and make it look retro ish... /:
+DMbros14 you CAN!!!
Lovely car lovely engine. I have a 4age 16v in my escort, awesome little thing
Beautiful cars :)
+Robbie Khan thank you!
i always liked those cars..back in 1987, i was working at a gas station and i revved one up and dropped the clutch and did a burn out across the parking lot..my boss chewed my ass out over that..being it was a customers car and all...
