How long did it take to fix the plastic extruder arm on the Ender 3's? Like 3+ years? lol
I bought an Ender 3 Max Neo and they shipped it with the power supply vents blocked by the metal cover plate. Creality saved 30 cents not having to punch extra vent holes
Creality = DIY bootstrapping.
I still love my Ender 5 Plus though, which is incidentally a larger print area, way more DIY friendly, and under 2/3rds the price (even though the price has gone up). I kind'a think I picked right for a long-term solution that can grow with me. Fixed size with an integrated enclosure, not so much.
Of course if you're _not_ both a hobbyist and min/maxer…
@@hd-be7diEnder 3 Pro I purchased in January had plastic extruder. Not good.
@@JonLaRue I threw away the extruder on mine... it lasted 2 matte pla filament rolls. Leave it to Creality to use a brass gear on the extruder. I replaced it with a dual gear from Amazon but I doubt it will last that long either since it's just stainless steel. Will most probably get a hardened steel gear set from BMG as a replacement.
I sure love a classic 3D printer review with Norm. After watching this review, my original Creality CR-10 is sure feeling slow and cumbersome to use. I might need to upgrade to the K1 Max after watching this 🫠. So many quality of life improvements!

OMG What a throwback with the mystery print music!
Pretty fair review. I have tried two different K1 Max's as a replacement for my 2017 Ender. Both were returned during my refund periods because they had problems that Creality couldn't fix quick enough. The first one was just dead out of the box, wouldn't print anything. The second one kind of worked after discovering several work arounds. I might have kept the second one, but it wasn't reliable. I want a printer that I can leave unattended and be confident that it's not going to destroy itself or burn my house down. The fix (for me) for constant hot end jams consisted of bypassing the filament delivery system completely. I hung the reel of filament above the printer and just dropped the filament directly into the extruder. Never use the "filament retract" function to remove or replace filament. Just cut the filament at the extruder and "extrude to replace filaments or remove them. Retracting will move a piece of melted filament into the cool aluminum heatsink and it will stick there. This especially occurs with PLA filament that has been left in the extruder after completing a job and it "tempers" from the heat. This makes it brittle and it will break or crumble if you pull on it or flex it. If this happens you may be successful heating the poker provide in the tool kit. Heat it up real hot and stick it into the jam, let it cool, pull out the clog. Mine often stopped for no reason or just went to the right side to cool down the print head and then got lost. It would just print in mid air leaving a pile of filament that the Lidar didn't stop. My fix for this was to take the top off and the front door off. I put a large room fan in front of the machine to keep it cool. Seemed to reduce mystery failures. I'll give Creality a little time and try another one some day.

I got a Creality K1 for $349 on sale at Microcenter. It's ok as long as you don't expect too much. Support is terrible. I will probably convert it to full Klipper in the future. I am waiting for Bambu to come out with a larger model.

I have had the K1 Max for about 2 months now, and I love it! It was easy to set up and get going. For those newer to 3D printing, the Creality Print software is pretty easy to use, too, without much effort. I can print things rather quickly without a lot of sacrifice in quality, it really depends on what I am printing if I go with a higher print speed or resolution. I do agree that inserting the filament is rather annoying, especially if you don't know that is an issue. I think I tried inserting the filament half a dozen times before I started twisting it and moving it around before it finally made it to the hot end.
I have printed mainly in PLA and ASA, and the K1 Max hasn't had any trouble printing either of them. At the moment, it isn't very humid where I live, so others may have different results. I also haven't used any adhesive on the bed, and so far, there have been no issues. Knock on wood, but I haven't had a failed print yet, which is pretty impressive.
I really do like the magnetic bed, which makes it super easy to remove prints from. And not having to add a third-party camera to the setup was also a plus. Being able to access the printer from a browser has allowed me to easily monitor and control prints on the go. I usually just VPN into my network if I'm out and about. It's a great printer all around, especially for newbies, as long as you are willing to pay the price.
It works for you but how does it compare to the Bambu, which is the gold standard for FDM printers right now?
@@roystevens4333 can't say, because I don't have a Bambu. All I know is that the prints the K1 Max produces are great, even at faster speeds. I'm not suggesting someone buy it over another printer they may want, only that I am having great results from the K1 Max.
The music from the 3D printing timelapse brings me back to the days of the first Makerbot Replicator in the channel.
I want one so bad! I have been wanting a 3D printer since they first started getting big, few years now I believe. Wish I could afford one! Great stuff Norm & Crew at Tested! Definitely going to be looking for one of these when I can!
Get an Ender 3 or an Ender 5. They are quite cheap and they work quite well. Good for a beginner. I would not start out with a machine like this. I have a modded ender 5.

@@Turbogto_guy Advertising the 6 year old Ender 3 as a beginner friendly printer?! It is, or rather was dirt cheap in 2017-20 and that is the only reason why people bought it. There are plenty of better, cheaper and especially more reliable printers nowadays, especially as a beginner. I didn't have the Ender 3, rather improved versions of it and they were pure torture to repair, bless reddit. The Bambu Lab's A1 mini is probably the beginner friendliest printer.

I’ve had to change the board on mine (upgrade) change the heater (higher wattage upgrade) Swiss hot end, repair cables, change a belt and none of it was even in the least bit challenging. I suspect if someone tried any of that and they were the type of person who had to call for help to change a flat tire on their car….well it might be a little rough for them. But torture? Only if you were missing your eyes or your fingers.

Bringing back the music from the old "guess what we are printing" segments was an unexpected easter egg this morning.
I still use crealitys original 12x12 cr10s. I got it in 2016. This printer just keeps on printing. I did change the printhead. It's a Micro Swiss direct drive now.
I just wanted to mention that CoreXY predates the Voron group by many many years. Voron printer designs are great, and so are the guys behind it. CoreXY was implemented by many in early reprap printers.

But yes the concept of multi motor synchronized axis motion predates its use in 3d printers. First time I had seen corexy was Ilan Moyer's article on the subject as an MIT research project back in 2012. CoreXY is just one example of a 45deg coordinate transform synchronize motor motion style. There is also hbot which is an imbalanced version of the same thing. And there are more examples like Delta which is an even more complicated coordinate transform. Most predate the consumer 3d printer movement.
I just bought my first printer a couple weeks ago. I looked around alot, and I wanted something that I didn't have to tinker with too much, which just worked more or less out of the box.
I decided on the Bambu P1P, and after watching this review, it seems like I made the correct choice. It just feels like a complete solution, with possibility for upgrades (like the AMS) down the line.
Only thing I dislike about the whole Bambu eco-system, is that it is closed, with proprietary parts and replacement parts, but since they are relatively cheap, it is a downside I can live with for now.

The Bambu P1S for $100 more seems to me the best option, either one is a great choice. The K1 also has dimensional issues, essentially the belts aren't perfectly lined up

I believe there is Black Friday on Bambu Lab's store, and the P1S is pretty cheap right now. I would absolutely go for that. I have although also heard pretty good about the K1, but the P-series of BBL printers seem to be the most well reviewed at the moment. Also, if you are interested in doing Multi-Material printing in the future, you can get the AMS for the BambuLab printers, which has worked really well for me so far, with minor issues only.
If you're thinking about doing multi material printing, I would go for the P1S combo, which will save you a lot of money.

Try printing a Creality K1 Max Riser to move the top glass up higher.
That auxliary cooling fan has _nothing_ to do with cooling the first layers. In fact it should be kept OFF when printing first one or two layers. It is needed when printing fast and toolhead cooling is not enough.

Do you know if the network password is limited to a number of characters you can use? I'm having trouble connecting to my network, printer recognizes my network but when I enter password all I get is password error, but it is a 26 character password. Any ideals
Have you tried this with any of the 60A or 70A or "Foamy" filaments? Or any suggestions if I almost exclusively want to print super flexible inserts for soft cover leather bound books

I like mine but they need to address the cable chain smacking the top and the hot end bowden tube issues.
I’m really looking for a How to use the k1… I really need to know how to properly slice builds for this machine to get the best build speed. All my old builds are sliced for my ender 3 which is significantly slower.
Be interesting to hear how it compares with the new Anycubic Kobra 2 Plus or the Max. The plus has a larger volume (400*320*320mm). The Max is even bigger (420*420*500mm), both with similar max print speeds (up to 500 mm/s).
Just checked the Kobra 2 Plus out, its a bed slinger. Comparing a bed slinger to a CoreXY printers speed is pointless. The Kobra 2 Plus won't win in speed - it has to move the entire bed and printed part.
@@nerfvinc12121212: It's not pointless. It's very valid. The companies advertise similar speeds at similar print sizes. How do the print speeds really compare? Print a few identical parts on both, side by side.
@@clearstream67 It's pointless in the sense of practicallity, sure it might go faster if the print bed is empty or it has time to accelerate to that speed. But acceleration is a large part of the printing time, CoreXY printers simply dont have to move as much mass, that's only being added the more you print.

With 3D extruded printers the word “fast” should be in quotes. Maybe an * too! While the speeds have improved larger prints still take many hours, sometimes days. I’m still wondering when the food printer from Back to the future 2 comes out…
How much filament does it take to produce one of those skeletons? Price wise?

What type of plastic do you use and what brand does it come from?
Could one design a spacer to lift the glass panel higher to prevent the filament feed tube from rubbing on the bottom of the glass panel?
dont think its necessary mine has a good 5mm clearance from the glass out of the box. I think you just need to push the tube further back past the clips if it is rubbing against it
At my place my Creality 3D Printer and the Make Magazines are at the exact same distance from each other as in Norms place ;-)
For 900 bucks I'll think I'll stick to my army of budget printers. Just added a V3 SE to my Arsenal. Great printer for 199 and its 3x faster than my e3pros and no manual leveling.
Anyone running into support issues where the support touching the print is messy? Anyone have a solution?
I don't think a single reviewer hates their bambu. They're so reliable. They really need a slightly bigger unit, 300x300x300 min please.
Creality still has work to do.
Was considering picking one of these up to go alongside my X1C, but it sounds like Bambu is going to release something new soon. Fingers crossed it's something with a larger build volume.

Defective hardware out of the box, bad printing quality sometimes. Not the best Firmware
@@lumi_arcs Yeah, no issues with sticking to bambu here. I also have a Kobra Max (same setup as Adam Savage) and the Kobra Max is a atrocious. I've been printing for just about 5 years now and have never had as much trouble as I have with the Kobra Max. The X1C was a godsend after troubleshooting that thing for so long.
Fingers crossed for something bigger from Bambu.

I have a 300x300x300 Anet A8+, but after about a year of use, it suddenly started printing off-bed. I didn't change any of the settings, so I have no idea why this happened. I then bought a much smaller Ender-3, which has been pretty much problem-free for three years. But I do NOT like Bowden tubes, and unless I'm mistaken, Creality doesn't offer any direct-drive printers... so now I'm looking for something to replace my A8+.
Most recent creality machines are direct drive. You are very mistaken

@R0T0Q Yes, very good suggestion. I was just hoping to find something I didn't have to do mods right away. Not a difficult mod, I'm just leery of tweaking these things, since the pretty-much Stock A8 let me down so soon.

Have you seen the 3d printed exotic cars people are printing on home printers and using a corvette chasis and motor to build on? Crazy stuff. One guy built a 300,000 Lamborghini for about 40,000 and the coolest part was that Lamborghini encouraged and approved the build and even helped him a little.

I recently got into Creality with their lizard scanner and a halot pro resin printer. I am completely dissapointed with the quality customer support and overall value. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND

Currently using the neptune 4 and for me it works well at the same speeds but £350 cheaper.
Elegoo is an awesome price, but there's a serious quality difference, and the Max has a larger print bed. You do get what you pay for with these Creality machines.
@@HunterTinsley I have never had any issues with Elegoo I have had both SLA and FDM printers from them and it has worked fine for me.
I have friend who have had no issues with elegoo either.
Plus elegoo does have max versions but I don't really need it.

Is it just me, or are Prusa printers curiously absent on Tested? I'd be interested in Sean's and Norm's opinion.
They likely get money or free printers and review what they get.
Prusa's are expensive and bed slingers bring a lot of compromise due to footprint and the weight of the bed. They are dead reliable and if you want to build a production environment, you can't go wrong with Prusa, although you might go broke. For those who don't want to be 3d printing aficionados, Bambu is better.
@@Immolate62 Tested have Formlabs printers, so I assumed they weren’t aiming for the cheapest printers available. Adam also recently built a filament box and prominently showed off his massive bed slinger. I’m not even trying to advocate in favor of Prusa printers. They are not the cheapest or fastest. I simply don’t understand the subjectively perceived loud absence. I would’ve loved to hear Norm’s / Sean’s / Adam’s opinion on the XL, for example, or how they would rank the SL1S compared to other resin printers they’ve used. But if the reviews are mainly sponsor driven, that would explain it. Something like a yearly “Tested 3d Printer Roundup” would be great, by categories like “best first printer”, “cheapest tinkerer machine that won’t burn your house down” or “best workhorse”. They must have loads of experience or at least interesting opinions.

300 mm is LESS than one foot, Norm. Not much, only about 5 mm, i think, but still less than 1 foot
304.8 mm = 1 foot, so 300*300*300 print size is roughly 95% of a real cubic foot :P

it's fun to me that auto bed leveling is standard, but it obviously depends on where u are, got my first 3d printer this year, a basic ender 3 and i'm a master at leveling it, except when i fuck it up but still, fighting the good fight

What is better the 3 d printers or resin printers ?
They're both considered 3D printers, however this particular machine is called a FDM printer, where it builds its layers with molten plastic filament. The SLA printers use liquid resin, cured layer by layer with a light, solidifying each layer of the build within the vat of resin, and once finished, the solid part emerges from the vat. Resin printers are messy, toxic, and the parts are quite fragile compared to FDM. Their resolution however, is excellent, and the parts require much less post sanding/processing than FDM, and have more of an injection molded appearance. Hope that helps!

How do they not catch that feed issue 🤦
I know everyone seems fascinated with print speed these days but for me its total time that counts. It’s been my experience that these faster prints suffer in quality relative to the higher end printers like I have - PRUSA. Even at only .15mm layer height my prints come off the bed ready to prime - no sanding req’d and when necessary I can print at .1mm & even .07mm. Those prints don’t even need to be painted if I choose my filament colors correctly.
You have the option to print slowly even with a fast printer. I believe the key benefit lies in having the flexibility to choose between the two.
The print quality of a X1C in quality mode is generally better than a Prusa. Prusas are great, but not THAT great.

it's the fast print mode that comes with the printer. It really does look awful though, compared to the fast mode benchy on the Bambu and the Qidi.
Imo, say no to Creality. They completely abandon their $1000 price point printers for customer support >> Reference CR-10 Max.
At this pricepoint, Bambu Lab X1C offers much better support, performance in head-to-head testing, and responds well to customer feedback.
