This is the Fender Super Sonic 22 Combo, an innovative amplifier that puts vintage Fender clean and overdrive tones right alongside modern high-gain distortion. All this sonic punch is packed into Fender's classic Deluxe Reverb platform, with 22 Watts of 6V6 saturation going into a 12" Fender Lightning Bolt Speaker by Eminence. The Fender Super Sonic 22 's no-nonsense Vintage channel keeps it simple, with treble, bass, and volume, plus a fat switch for thickening up single-coils. The Burn channel is where this amp gets nasty, with dual gain knobs, three-band EQ, and a master volume for cranking out modern crunch and lead tones. The Fender Super Sonic 22 's impressive variety of tones, as well as it's refined appearance and moderate output, make it a natural for any gig, live or in the studio.
Andy certainly has become the popular guitar player on youtube. Every electric guitarist will know him at some point in their life because everybody will want to see what certain pedals and amps will do. Thanks again Andy for all your help! You're helping progress the world of music!
Funky Monks!!!! Go ahead Andy!!!!!
Andy,
let me tell you this. I love all the gear and all that. But the reason i watch this videos is for your playing, and more often than i like to admit i'm rewindind the video with a guitar in my hands trying to figure out note by note what your playing.
And for that, thank you!
I've been waiting for this one! Thanks PGS.
Love this. I think I've watched this video dozens of times. Great playing, great tone. Love this amp !!!
Do not even like RHCP, but must learn this song. Great demo, as always.
I'm in love with this amp
Holy shit Andy, whatever you're plyaing on the sparkle Strat dropped my jaw. Love it!
andy i could listen to you play for hours.
Gorgeous sparkly strat!
Andy, your picking technique is freaking cool. Never seen anyone really play like that!
Sweet amp, thanks for the Demo Andy
I really like the sound that amp has great review!
Very nice playing, I enjoy all of your videos keep it up!
I am loving that sparkly Strat
I tried playing like Andy yesterday. Today I have a big blister on my thumb. :(
You and this amp wail, andy! I'm gonna have to get one of these someday.
this and frettedamericana are defs my fave channels ^^
i love the strat!!!
Andy you rock my world!
beautiful sparkle strat
For me it's the best combo you can get
I like that sparkly strat.
FUNKY MONKS - RHCP
Absolutely
Do you know what's the song around 2:18 ? It's a beautiful tune!
Confusion is my middle name
(Confusion is my middle name)
Ask me again I'll tell you the same
(Ask me again I'll tell you the same)
Persuaded by one sexy dame
No I do not feel no shame!
I love Andy's sweaters.
Andy, I Know I always say this, but what else can I say... Andy you rock man!!!!
Hey PGS. First off, thanks for all the videos, I appreciate all the information you guys dish out all the time.
Now on to my question: I got my hands on a nice vintage Strat. I love the tone incredibly, but it comes at the price of annoyingly loud 60-cycle hum. I see you guys use some vintage spec strats too, and the recordings sound clean and noiseless. How're you doing it? Noise gate/suppressor? One of those EHX Hum Debuggers? If so, where do they go in the chain? Thanks!
me like this amp! me get!
You've now played 2 songs from BSSM in your vids in a quite short period of time. I don't listen to RHCP that much these days but still..Thanks :)
Lovely sounding amp, great demo.
Damn that burn is nice...
I was just hoping you'd do this amp!!
I believe it switches on the effects loop.
that s so cool i would like to have one
Unlike other flix, this one was more play n less talk. Nice.
Andy is superb guitarist :-) , nice amp BTW.
Awesome
Robin :o)
I believe they do make it in a head! Fender's website has a Super-sonic 22 head listed, check it out.
3:51 WHOA!!!!!!
I would have liked to have heard it with the Jazzmaster shown after the intro...
Funky Monks!! Brilliant !
I got one of these today in surf green. I'm more than impressed with the tone and versatility of this amp. The burn channel really rocks, as most fender amps have really bad overdrive, this kicks butt!
Nice!
I have a S.S. 60 watt combo and I've been running (gigging) JJ. 6V6's (thanks to Bob @ Eurotubes) for quite some time- well before Fender came out with the S.S. 22. It just requires a re-bias as with any tube replacement. I just love it! Great break up at volume on the clean and fabulous lead tones on "burn". So glad I bought it!
I like the Sparkley strat
3:50 well this is a very nice am- OH MY GOD TOO SHINY!!
@virgult
In therms of output they are very similar.
The el84 is the little brother of the el34, while the 6v6 is the little brother of the 6l6,
Hence, the el84 wil deliver a british sound (strong midrange attack) and the 6v6 an american sound (smooth, sparkly an a scooped midrange).
The biggest quality of both tubes is that they perorm really well at low volumes.
What is the song in 0:10?
Fender is going in such a great direction with these new amp innovations. To me, they already knocked it out of the park with the VM amps with the onboard effects and improved drive and now they have the new hot rods and this. Awesome. Just can't seem to find it on the site. Any help with price?
just got one and theres a popping sound when you switch to the dirty chnll, is this normal or should I send it back?
Hello nice démo andy as usual, i own the supersonic 60 w that sounds very loud i have planned to switch to the 22 watts but i am so in love with the vibrolux and bassman channel on the 60 watts! So on the 22 watts is it still a vibrolux sound and bassman sound or did they change the 2 vintage sounds on the 22 watts because they call it fat or clean vintage ? thanks best regards from france
funky!
Great dem.
Hi Andy, what did you mic the amp with? Sounds great, cheers
Great Sound!!!
I have just one question.. the fat footswitch work on both channels? thanks
2:30 wow very sweet tone
So i want to buy this amp and i want a flight case for that amp
Please help me where can i find a flight case
give me a website or etc
@sexiguiterguy12345 Yes, it sounds great with a Les Paul. The overdrive sounds great for a Fender amp, but you can't really get a Marshall overdrive if that's what you are asking.
Andy is the Boss!!!!!!!!!!!
I kinda laughed at 3:52 when Andy pulls out this bright as guitar xD
andy and that tele were made for each other
2:18 is the best!
2:18, is that from a song? what a beautiful sound
Love of my life! Fucking great amp
Oh my god!!!!!! Funky Monks!!!!!!!! I LOVE ANDY.
@wickedwizardofspeed I'd love to hear that clean channel turned up. Do you have a way of posting a demo of yours? And, this amp is obviously in the 6V6 Deluxe Reverb lineage, but how close is it in basic sound to, say, the DRRI?
this so much better than guitar world's channel
Are there any differences between the combo and the 22w head into a cab with the same speaker?
what is that song between 4:00 - 5:00 sounds absolutely gorgeous!
@stehay I think this may be the amp I've been looking for. It's quite a bit more portable than the AC30 too, isn't it?
Going to try one out when I'm at the local music store next time. :)
Does anyone know a pedal with a similar sound as the burn channel?
I came here because Mountain Bird uses one of these but stayed for the RHCP! Funky Monks rules!
Would this thing be capable of jazz cleans loud enough to gig with? I'm trying to find a rig that will cover me for bebop, fusion, and psychedelic/progressive rock. Or would I be better off with a Twin and a couple of different dirtboxes?
@stratthead theres a "the scoop" vid on this channel about his picking style i think. IMO, he does it well :P
@stehay
You too, mate? I've been searching for like ages after a pedal which goes along well with my AC30 but they all just sounds like... well shit. Thinking of one of these aswell. Have you tried one of these out?
I wonder if this would be loud enough to gig with...
I find that some of Andy's covers sound better than the original song thumbs up if you agree
this guy loves the stones ! hahaha i know cause I love them too and I can spot every lick ! hahah
@DeadWhiteButterflies no doubt!
what can you tell me about this fender 's reliabilty?i m looking for an all tube amp for home practice and band practice i.e a wattage of 15-30w maybe...what would you reccomend me (anything from your stock)?
by the way, great demos:)
thanks
Everyone always demos Fender's clean channels as just that: exclusively for clean sounds. But I'm curious to know what the clean channel sounds like when cranked. Does one get that really nice power tube overdrive going? Virtually impossible to crank an amp at your local guitar store to find out, and it would be great if PGS would demo cranked clean channels to give a sense of the sound.
I've never heard a sparkle-finish Strat sound so...metal o_o
@virgult
I doubt the difference is as big as you think. I've got an Egnater Renegade that lets you choose 6L6 and EL34, or blend them. The volume and tone difference is negligible, although they definitely have a different feel.
Hi! Is there a big difference in sound of this amp between version 22 and 60? Obviously 60 is louder, but is there something else? Thanks for answer in advance!
What is the second song he plays? It's both melodic and funky:) I like it!
what kind of music are U playing from 3.00 to 3.49. U can really rock that telecaster, I love my fender tele and am thinking about either getting the hot rod deluxe of the supersonic 22, which do u recommend.
What an awesome job it must be to get paid to play some of the best guitars, amps, and effects in the business. But man, you should can bring out the best in all of them!
Um, can somebody tell me about the "effects" button on the footswitch? Thank you.
Welcome back? How do you know that this isn't my first proguitarshop video?......Shit...you're right.
2:25.. is the a Baja telecaster ??
This is cheaper than a DRRI, has a more versatile palette, and the cleans are better. I run a fulltone OCD through the clean channel to give me that fizzy Marshall crunch, and apart from that this amp can handle anything. And it's damn loud too :)
Hi guys, I been thinking a lot in this amp, aand its the first time that I heard a great gain in fender tube amps with a great clean...but i like more agressive.. How could run with an overdrive pedal?
Thanks!!
regards from CHile
Anyone know the tune he is playing from 2:18 to 2:45?? so nice!
that is one of the best damn Fender Amps!
Great video and great amp. I am torn between this and the Hot Rod III. BTW you got the price marked wrong. It's supposed to be $999.99 for the 22 watter and 1399.99 for the 60 watt combo. That's what everyone else sells it for. :-)
Hey Andy, is the Fat switch on the vintage side the same as the vibrolux/bassman switch on the super-sonic 60?
Does this amp have too much gain for Blues? Would the NEW Blues Jr. III Special Edition from Pro Guitar Shop be a better choice??? Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, SRV type blues.
Thanks guys,
Lou
i've got a question, i'm getting a frontman 212r but i want to change the speakers and i'm looking at the celestion vintage 30's like what are in the super sonic twin 100w. i'm not that knowledgable in speakers but i know the FM is100w and has two speakers. so if i get two vintage 30's would it remain 100w? and if i get say two 40w speakers would that make the amp 80w?
Man i don't what guitar to get. I was going towards the standard stratocaster HSS or the blacktop jazzmaster, i cant choose one.
I like Jimi Hendrix, 60's and 70's rock, and funk.
I. WANT.
