    Greetings, Thanks for posting this video, really helped deciding on which one to purchase. I bought the 4x8 version with the thought of making 3 of the "X" supports removable, hence having 3 table options out of one unit. WORKED WONDERFUL, THREE FOR THE PRICE OF ONE.
    I drilled out the "X" rivets and separated it into a 2x4 and a 4x4 unit, with 3 "X" supports set aside. I can reattach the "X" supports to combine the two smaller units back together using 3/16" HF Clevis pins if I need to go back BIG again and connected together. Don't think I will do it often because unconnected they support a 4x8' sheet just fine. One thing, the "X" support holes have to be enlarged just a bit for the pin to go through, the plastic receives without enlarging.
    Just wanted to share and thank you for your video.

    I just ordered the 2x4 version and top earlier today before seeing your review. Very certain it was a good choice after watching your review. Can’t wait to get it in a couple days and start using it, especially as a portable track saw table.

    • @adgieem1
      @adgieem1 9 місяців тому +1

      It will work good for your track saw except. It can only support 4 ft long material. Nothing over 4 ft can be supported for track saw and that’s when track saws are best.

      @adgieem1 9 місяців тому

    • @Rwjudy48
      @Rwjudy48 9 місяців тому

      @@adgieem1 It is a sturdy work surface. However, [quoting from an Amazon review that mirrors my experience] “While the holes on each half of the surface are indeed spaced on 4 inch centers this spacing is off by 5/32" where the two surfaces meet at the hinge… I suspect this is due to the holes being machined on full MDF sheets and not allowing for the saw kerf when they are cut into 2x2 pieces. This means any accessory like a dog fence that has pins on 4 inch centers can't straddle any joints [the hinge section] in the [Centipede table] work surface. If you’re using dogs to establish a [square or] an angle cut make sure the dogs are on the same half of the surface or your [cuts will not be square] angles will be off.” For this reason, I use the Centipede as a portable work surface, but not a tracksaw cutting station. I instead built a DIY MFT (Multi-Function Table) based on a plan from 10minuteworkshop, a seller on Etsy. I bought the top from an Etsy seller, Trunk Works, and the grid of dog holes are perfectly aligned.

    Great review.
    I asked a Bora rep about whether it would be stable enough for hand tool use ( specifically planing a board) and he got pretty defensive and didn’t answer the question. Your review helps. I may get one anyway and figure out something like a planing beam for some of the hand tool use. I like the folding top.

    • @MrTresto
      @MrTresto Рік тому +1

      For planing a board? Forget about it. Specifically planing requires a rigid and relatively heavy bench that can sustain these lateral forces. I'm sure you know about it but just in case, Rex Krueger has an improved english joiner's bench design that uses a lot less lumber, as in, somewhere between $50 and $100, depending on said lumber's price, closer to 50, and can be built in about a day. I forget if the plans are free or a couple dollars, I think free. That is a really easy and cheap way to have a good surface for hand tools. Or of course any of the existing designs will work, be it Swedish or Roubo or whatnot, they're just a lot more time consuming (and expensive) to make

    Ok 1st off thank you very much for this informative video! 2nd, it would've been helpful had you said what you paid for that folding board so ppl could compare pricing. 3rd, this thing is exactly what I've been looking for to make a portable bed! All I would need with it is a folding mat or board for stability and a thick folding floor mat and I would be good to go! It would make moving and storage so much easier vs a whole mattress & boxspring! Last Spring I purchased that overpriced *EZ Bed* which is nothing more than an air mattress affixed to a base similar in design. The air mattress wouldn't stay inflated and I wasted over $200! Ever since I'd been looking for something exactly like this and here it is! Now I can make my own portable sturdy bed and take it down or move it anytime I want or need to! Woo hoo I'm thrilled!

And as for the work top with dog holes, and I do agree with you about the separate dog hole worktop, its way to expensive and even more so here in the UK, will make my own as you do not need a CNC do it.

    I think these would be handy for a temporary table to do some glue up, assembly, or to store some material. But as a main work table, (like you have it) I don't think it is sturdy enough for me, and yes, I use every power tool option out there. What kind of plywood and thickness would you recommend to cut with the plunge saw?

    Based on the listed info, this could be used as a temporary riser/stand for video work.
    With a plywood sheet or the Bora work top, how sturdy is to to walk/stand on top with a person and camera tripod?
    Would you recommend additional bracing, using the 2x4 and the x clamps?

    Are your centipedes the 30 inch tall or 36 inch variant? I was looking into picking up the 4x8 but I see they have a 36 inch tall model which might be better for my height at 6'4 than bending over a bit more at 30 inches. What's your thoughts?

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  Рік тому

      I have the 30”. Just depends what you mostly build. Cabinets and bigger furniture pieces, I like the 30”. Flat items laying down, 36” would definitely be better

    I'd be using this in my garage for 4x8 sheet breakdown. I use the same 1-inch foam board you do. Question: Do you think the 4x6 centipede be good enough to hold up 4x8 3/4 ply, 4x8 foam and 4x8 piece being cut? Or am I really better off with the 4x8 centipede?

  • @philshock3805
    @philshock3805 3 роки тому

    For my purposes (sheet goods break down, temporary horizontal surface, etc), I just don't see the appeal - especially for the price. I've used lightweight folding sawhorses for years that take up no more room than the centipede. Two sets actually that I just hang on the wall when not in use and they can acommodate anything from a 2x2 to a 4x8. It's great the Centipede can handle a lot more weight and features multiple support points but those are things I'm just not all that concerned about.

      All depends what you primarily do. Bigger projects like cabinet boxes, lower is better. They make taller versions.
