It's crazy to believe that Hamilton and Alonso are still in F1 🥶
Exactly, they are legends.
Alonso indeed is a driver with some of the worst luck, in some other universe he would have more world titles.
Hope to see at least one more win from both of them. Considering next year Lewis joins Ferrari it’s going to be exciting ☺️
@@DifferentTurnalonso is overrated
@@ransomsdp how would you rank these three ALO, VET, HAM?🙃

James Allen - "You'll never see a more dramatic conclusion to a motor race, let alone a Grand Prix"
Michael Masi - "Hold my beer"
Yeah, Lewis is the magnet for situations like this😅
Although I’d say 2008 is more dramatic because it was decided only due to cars on the rack and not because stewards decisions.
@@DifferentTurn definitely from a racing POV this was more insane. IMO though, AD 2021 as a whole it will be hard to top that level of controversy 🤣
Good job... I was ready to write the exact same comment!

The man, the myth, the Masi! Michael Masi!
"We will never see a more dramatic conclusion to any motor race let alone a grand prix than that"
Oh boy, wait for 2021 💀💀
But for all the wrong reasons. That race is more infamous than famous.
I don't think 2021 was as dramatic. By the time the SC restart happened every knew Verstappen would overtake Ham on much, much fresher tyres, it was just a matter of when. Meanwhile during this race, it literally came down to one guy messing up on the final corner of the final lap... even Ferrari thought they had won!
@@mapper7310 very true, the result was more predictable. Nonetheless, the the fact that the championship was decided with a 1 vs 1 duel on the last lap of the last race made that moment, if not uncertain, still incredibly dramatic. Like an ending scene of a movie, where you understand how it's going to end but you still get very involved in it.
I'd argue this was far more dramatic than AD 2021.
That was drama in the last lap. This was truly something that never happened before and will never happen again.
The best bit, which isn’t shown here, is the Ferrari mechanic who smashes the glass in the garage when he realises. Iconic moment.
True! Another person has also mentioned it here. Although, despite I've watched this race live, this moment somehow has been completely erased from my memory😅

Vettel in Torro Rosso challenging Hamilton in Mclaren!!!! Crazy. This is something like Verstappen had been challenged by Tsunoda.
Good analogy, although Seb by that time has already won one race, so maybe someone like Ocon or Gasly🙂
I’m amazed, that during their battle this race they had 0 titles and eventually they have won 11 titles combined. Talking about watching legends in the making 🙂

@@flintey360 bourdais 4 points. Vettel 35. (in current points it would be 12 vs 93). Vettel literally drove that car to the limits.
@@mcn2807 Bourdais was also afflicted by bad luck and things not going his way. He was looking set for 4th in Melbourne until his engine blew, and he got the tyre choice wrong when it started to rain at Spa when he could've potentially got a podium! Never mind that his car wouldn't select 1st gear on the grid at Monza and by the time he got going he was already a lap down. Not saying he was better than Vettel, he wasn't, but he could've possibly had a semi-decent points total, maybe somewhere in the teens, instead of just the four he got. We'll never know for sure though.

Here is a little funfact:
If there was given 1 point for fastest laps with the old pointssystem then massa wouldve been champion.
Massa having 3 fastest laps.
Hamilton having 1 fastest lap.
Which would make it:
1. Massa 100 points
2. Hamilton 99 points

I liked the touch of using the modern points system. Funny how 1) the winning margin is still one point, and 2) the only changes in the table from real life are Piquet and Rosberg swapping places and Coulthard and Nakajima swapping places.
I was only nine when this race happened. It was the first year in which I was seriously following F1 (I watched a little in 2007 I think; I do recall Alonso in the McLaren at least). I think I might've followed the crowd a bit in supporting Hamilton, but at the same time, eight year old me was also very likely taken in by the yellow helmet in the silver McLaren and his aggressive driving style and prowess in the wet (see Monaco and Silverstone in '08 for instance). Been a Hamilton and McLaren fan from the start and certainly don't intend to stop now!
Comments like this are warming my heart🫶
Thank you so much and indeed using modern points system is the key part of the content at this channel. I started with the season 99, because the name “Different Turn” really goes along with what would’ve happened in such alternate reality.
And thank you for sharing your childhood’s memories, as a fellow Lewis fan, it’s especially great ☺️
When Lewis joined I immediately started supporting him to fill the void of Kimi’s departure to Ferrari. Funny enough in the next year, I’m planning to support Lewis there. Going to be wild to feel rooting for them😊
The commentary audio is pretty shocking but the rest is amazing, good job

Obrigado por assistir!☺️
As a Brazilian, what do you rate worse 7-1 or 1950’s WC final?
I’m a supporter of AC Milan and Lewis Hamilton, so for me Istanbul ‘05 and Abu Dhabi ‘21 are at some level where I can relate to you.
@@DifferentTurn It is hard to say, as most people weren't there in 1950's WC final, so I would rate 2014's disaster worse. Losing to Uruguay in the finals sure sucks, but they were strong back then, it was a tight match and close score.
2014 was a national hype, specially because the Confederations Cup the year before, the team played amazing, delivering great matches against Uruguay, Italy and beating Spain (the ruling WC champion) by 3-0 in the finals. The atmosphere before the matches, the crowd singing the full national anthem "a capela", reaching the semis for the first time since the last title in 2002, at our home WC, all that was magical. We were 2 matches away from being the first 6 time champion AT OUR HOME. But instead, the team went blackout, the greatest defeat as a world cup host just wasn't greater because Germany dropped the pace.
Of course we see now that Brazil reaching the semis was a fluke, it only happened because we got lucky on the draft and played weaker teams on the round of 16 and quarterfinals. That team wasn't going to win anything. 2014 was bad because of the humiliation, but 2018 and 2022 hurts more today because the team played better and we actually had a shot.
@@stjoao Thank you for detailed and insightful reply. Much appreciated ☺️
I remember that at the time I’ve been in Spain and we were unable to watch the game from the start, the utter shock of seeing the scoreline was something.
Interestingly enough, after 2014, Germany is unable to even advance to knockout stage. Hopefully we will see this match-up someday at WC.
After Milan lost in ‘05, I was rooting for Liverpool against Chelsea, just so Milan had the chance to overcome the ghost of the Istanbul and return the favour. It’s a whole different story how I watched the Athens final🙂
Alonso had a fantastic year in 2008, even putting Crashgate aside. That P2 in Brazil was a fantastic drive and he was the first driver to pit because of the rain, no doubt hoping Massa would make a mistake in the rain as he often did
Much better than his 2007, 2010 seasons. He was in a rough patch during that period.
Greatest F1 season finale of all time. Right up there with 2012
So sad for Massa, and what a season for F1...
What a race, beautiful sport
Fantastic! Thank you. :)
Thank you ☺️ Probably the most memorable race for me personally. I rooted for Lewis, so this rollercoaster of emotions was something 🙂
@@DifferentTurn Oh, wow. For me it was exactly the same. :) Though I was in this case more rooting for McLaren (my favourite team in f1 since I first watched a race in the middle of the 2000s season -> Hockenheim 2000).
I mean of course I rooted for Lewis that day and the whole time as he drove for McLaren (he is an amazing driver and one of the best ever in my opinion) but besides a few drivers which I liked very much (Häkkinen, Frentzen, Clark, Reutemann, Martini) I was always more a fan of the teams (McLaren, Lotus, Minardi). Whoever drove for those teams I wanted all the best for them. :)
@@Arrows Nice! Thank you for sharing. Was surprised that you didn’t mention Arrows as one of teams that you root for🙂
In my case, McLaren was my “first love” in F1, thanks to Mika. I started watching in 2000, but unfortunately by the end of 2001 he went into sabbatical (Mercedes driver for 2025?😅), and then started to support Kimi. Was really upset when he left for Ferrari, so when a rookie called Lewis has joined, I immediately became his supporter. And when he decided to go for Mercedes, I realised that I’m more of his supporter rather than McLaren’s.
Got to say, it will be weird to root for Ferrari next year😄
@@DifferentTurn Yes, I was only for one season (well, it was not even a full season, because they were gone mid-season^^) a fan of Arrows, because Frentzen joined them after Prost were forced to shut down at the end of 2001. :)
Ah, interesting background informations. It is nice to read this. :) And yes, I was also sad when Mika retired at the end of 2001, because I couldn't watch him for another 5 or more years. 1 1/2 seasons were just not enough (it was technically almost the same with Frentzen - he drove till the end of 2003 but I had missed his best season in 1999).
Definitely. :D But I really hope he can win with Ferrari another title. That would be so incredible.
@@Arrows ah, makes sense 🙂 Season 2001 was something. Spanish GP and especially the last lap was like a nightmare for Mika. Regarding HHF, remember, that as a kid I was very surprised that the talent of his calibre had to go to Prost/Arrows. Thought he could at least go for BAR/Benetton, although it seemed that he was out of options that would allow he to fight for podiums.
Thank you for this conversation☺️ It was indeed joyful, especially since our backgrounds are really similar 🙂

2020 had the best graphics, imo. It was simple and told you everything you needed to know without being intrusive. I'm not a fan of them adding the team logos, I prefer the colours.
I liked coloured lines as well, but probably one of the reasons was due a lot of the cars tend to have similar colour schemes and they decided team logo would be a more distinguishable element.
I have a soft spot for late 90's-early 00's graphics with yellow squares. Actually considering do modern races with such graphics as an experiment further down the road.
Thanks to @DifferentTurn for the graphics and the scoreboard with the current point system! As a Ferrari supporter,I will never forget how Massa had missed that championship. That last turn was engraved in my memory.

@@RealSlxzz Nope. This was basically the last corner. 2021 was during the first part of the last lap.
@@DonLee1980by timing alone you're actually wrong Lewis took it by 6 seconds here while Max didnt win by nearly that much in 2021. 2021 was closer and also the 2 drivers involved were head to head which that alone completely changes things and kind of a trump card. Dont get me wrong this was cool and all but 2021 was like out of a movie, doesnt get more dramatic than that. Also nore historically significant as you have a 7 time winner being denied by a soon to be 4 time champion. 2021 will go down in history as the most significant, controversial and dramatic ending and season just based on all these facts. It will mean even more if Max manages to get 8 titles and Lewis doesnt. Even without that, it's fated to be the race that defines those 2 in history. No way around it.

Massa leads home drivers from P2-P5 with 14 titles combined...and yet he doesn't win one himself. Poetically tragic.
he's overrated
The classic Glock moment would have been ruined with modern graphics because the timing tower intervals would have shown Hamilton catching before the cameras picked it up.
Where do you get the telemetry, that’s so cool
If you’re talking about the changing interval when Seb was chasing Lewis, those are sadly rough numbers. Luckily cars are really close, so it’s not far away from the reality. But such graphics for sure adds to authenticity🙂
This world championship belongs to Felipe Massa...poor guy... didn't won a championship 😢
Nope. Everyone just looks at one race and say "Massa should have won" out of sympathy. If u look back at the entire season, Massa binned it on multiple occasions like crashing out in Australia and Malaysia by himself. Silverstone spinning many times, going off track in Monaco, spinning in Japan. His won in France soley because Kimi's car had issues and Spa he won because Lewis got a penalty. Massa should have won easily considering the Ferrari was a quicker car.
@MDgp5dl you says that like Lewis didn't

I am Alonso fan, but how is finished 2nd?
Him and Vettel timed the first pit stops (inters to dry) perfectly, leaving Alonso 3rd and Vettel 2nd. However, Vettel was stupidly under-fuelled for some reason and had to pit again (thus beginning his battle with Hamilton), promoting Alonso to 2nd.
@@indranigomes9874Vettel's bad luck strikes again. Truthfully the only time he was ever lucky was between 2011 - 2013. Alonso, 2005 - 2006, 2010. A shame they couldn't repliacte their fortune in their other years.
Wait... Fisichella and Force India scored points in 2008?
No, they didn't.🙂
But in this video I've used 25-points system (ongoing theme of this channel) to see whether the outcome would've been different. Turns out Fisichella would have scored the single point for Force India in that case (Spanish GP).

@@urubu527 what I think many are forgetting about, is that Felipe have spun 5 times during British GP that season, missing out on points. In Malaysia he as well spun and finished 2nd to Kimi. I know those are pure racing incidents without any cheating, but in the end if we're talking about "what if's" these two examples played differently would overlay Crashgate in my opinion.
@@urubu527 Then what about the spa post race penalty? It was unfair to punish Hamilton after race while in the race he did everything right and even gave the place back to kimi.
