Everyone wants to "fit in". I know what that feels like and as a society we should be accepting of our differences as individual people. However, there still needs to be a standard to which everyone abides by. Call it a "common ground" of basic acceptable standards. (good vs evil, healthy vs not healthy, etc.)
Things that everyone can agree upon and one of those things should be whats considered a "Good Quality of Life".
I'm sorry but the entire world shouldn't have to change because of laziness. Airplanes don't need to be made bigger because you can't stop stuffing yourself with food. Theme parks shouldn't be criticized because you're not allowed to go on a ride for your own safety due to how overweight you are.
I'll never turn away someone who is obese who wants to better their life. In fact, I've always worked as hard as I can to help these people the most. But if you try to tell me that being 200lbs overweight is "normal", well then we're going to have a problem.
There is a sickness out there, especially in America. We have a very unhealthy relationship with food. But when we work together we are STRONG and I know if given the chance everyone can live for a better tomorrow with mass obesity becoming a thing of the past.

I get that healthy is a general term that varies in weight but I’ve seen people call people at the lighter end of obesity healthy. I think that’s wrong because there are serious risks, especially saying it post-covid is wild because those people did have a tougher time. I still believe everyone deserves respect (besides obvious mal actors). I think that’s where body positivity originally started where you shouldn’t be treated differently because of your appearance. I like that you were kind in this video and I think being kind to others isn’t hard but making clearly false statements on health is bothersome and even dangerous

  • @arielb5317
    @arielb5317 Рік тому

Part of the problem is that we’ve somehow developed our society into one where everyone gets a “participation badge”. “Quality of life” being the core phrase here. The biggest problem we have is “social” media has made celebrities of practically everyone who wants attention and for all the wrong reasons. You can pinpoint those who share things online that are of actual value that inspire people to do good things for themselves or others versus those who do it for attention even if it’s the wrong kind. “Quality of life” doesn’t seem to have much value for a lot of these folks because they literally equate simply showing up to what they call “life” never giving a second thought to what little effort they could even make to actually improve it for themselves or others around them. The advent of “social media” is as much a curse as it is a blessing because so much of it has just become noise. I’m all for being accepting and never trying to judge others but let’s be honest, we all judge. What sets us apart is how we see those examples in the world and decide how we use that information to better ourselves and even by example inspire others to do the same. I agree with your opinion Scott. You were very constructive in how you spoke about this topic and the individual who inspired you to post about it. Thank you for working to be a positive example.

I agree wholeheartedly. Here in Europe, most healthcare is provided by government, funded with tax dollars. So the health complications that you will have living an unhealthy life a paid for by your fellow citizens. To combat the costs, that's why health taxes are high here ( for example on alcohol and cigarettes ). But there is an epidemic of obesity in Europe, and it's getting worse. People aren't exercising enough, and are eating poor diets. Some of the latter can be explained by the cost of living crisis. But more needs to be done to tax unhealthy food options, and to nudge people into exercising more. Both carrot and stick are required.

We have a social and healthy standard that may not be for everyone, but it's there. It isn't because the majority population are sitting back, chuckling evilly and going "Ah haw haw haw, we've made it so people stay in line with these social standards that WE have decided EVERYONE has to live up to. Why? Because we're all so controlling and want everyone to fall in line, haw haw... a haw...".
It's just because that's the way things have turned out and they've turned out that way for good reasons. No one says that you _have_ to be a certain way and it's completely a choice and if it's for positive reasons, then if you live that way and make an effort to achieve that goal, then this is what's going to happen:
You're going to reap the benefits and rewards that come with it.
Sadly however we have people in society that haven't reached certain standards, either by not putting effort into it or they just got dealt a poor hand in life and they're unable to do so.
    But here's the thing:
Just because a person _can't_ reach a certain goal, doesn't mean they need to not only prey on those needing help to reach it, who are trying but don't have the confidence/motivation needed, but also actively steer them away from it and encourage and praise failed results by spinning them as good achievements.

I agree with some of what you’re saying. Definitely normalizing obesity has been a problem for a long time.
The place where you lost me was in the beginning when you said we need a standard of morals then we can move within that to “be ourselves.” The problem is, who decides those standards?
What’s moral for some isn’t for others. What’s good for some isn’t for others. There’s parts of the world that consider it morally acceptable to kill people simply for their sexual orientation. There’s parts of the world that see it as moral to kill a rape victim. You can’t impose your moral code on someone else and say it’s correct.
Then there’s the area where you’re coming at it from, fitness and healthy living. There are people that take both ends of the spectrum to the extreme. The woman is the antithesis of someone like Rich Piana. Both are extremely unhealthy.
There’s a reason a lot of people with eating disorders get into hardcore body building. I was one of them. It searches that same itch. For some people no matter what they do, it’s never enough. For others it’s a coping mechanism for their depression.
Even you said you think you’re only above average. You’re on the extreme end of what natural fitness is. You literally have dedicated your life to fitness and it shows in your body. Average men aren’t muscular like that. They work out a few times a week to keep their strength up but have very little definition. Guys like Timothy Olyphant, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins come to mind.

WE decide this standard of morals. All the examples you gave were extreme examples.
So clearly if we came together as a society, those extremes would not be considered a baseline of whats "Good vs Evil" / "Healthy vs Unhealthy"

I'm lucky...I can eat or drink anything I want and I stay around 140 lbs, at 5'6"...I got up to 152 once when I was young and working out, but though I Looked and Felt (physically) Great, I did notice a difference in the way I did...everything! I was always aware of the extra weight, and didn't feel as comfortable with it, even though it was Muscle! Strange! I could Not Imagine carrying around 10...or More...lbs of Fat!

You just have to accept that everyone is different with different levels of a pre-frontal cortex. Putting yourself up as a standard to be achieved by others is a little arrogant, don't you think?

Scott what she created on Social Media isn’t about her being a model. Here is a woman seeking attention thru Social Media instead of focusing on her quality of life . She can’t barely move and this is really sad to see. This woman needs some intervention to get back her quality of life . She kind of reminded me of the Whale with Brandon Frazier. I’m curious to what led this woman to where she is today . Scott love you ❤man . Don’t ever change and always be you . 🤗 I was out in Ft Lauerdale last month.

I think too much of anything is a bad thing. I like apples. But if I sit down and eat a whole bag I'm one go I'm gonna have a bad time. I think the same is true for things like body positivity. Yeah if you put on a few extra holiday pounds or something you can live with it because you wanna work to fix it. But inspirational quotes about loving yourself dont mean shit if you can't go to the grocery store and get milk without breaking into a full sweat.

Someone who follows this sort of lifestyle will eventually require lifelong assistance from the government and pharma. That makes them both a gold mine and very easy to control, which is why there is a concerted effort to encourage it.

I think those baselines should arrived at on the recommendations of a doctor/nutritionist/etc. I'm sure that if this person has had regular checkups, someone has already told her that the weight has to go for the sake of her health and not a beauty aesthetic.

Why do we have to accept the premise that she's trying to be a nice person? She's encouraging others to join her in her pursuit a premature death so that she doesn't feel bad about failing to take the initiative to better herself. Just because she smiles and has an upbeat voice it doesn't make her goal any less evil.

what makes me mad about this woman's message is that there are so many people who do not have the choice to just be healthy and normal. they can't just decide one day to eat right, exercise and fix their body. she still has that option and she isn't this way because she was born with a defect or has a disability because of an accident or maybe a by product of an infection. so many people just don't have this choice and i feel like this is a horrible slap in the face to those people.
