    Finally someone who understands that the Gospel writers are not interpreting what Jesus said but are recording what He actually said and how the Old Testament is to be understood. Thank you.

    The deeper one reads, the richer the text, a text of profoundly Jewish origin. Look into Orthodox Christian liturgics and you will find exactly this narrative lacing of Hebrew Bible into Christian theology. Psalms, Isaiah, Prophets.

    Watts is mistaken about one crucial thing We don't need to choose between scripture and philosophy. Yes, the temple God needs us to keep is the one within us, and yes it is through understanding of and living within the image of the Divine character that this temple is built and maintained, but we absolutely cannot get there without the language of virtue studied and written onto jour hearts. Much philosophy is a ponderous waste of time, but not all.
