I have always preferred writing out my to do list or thoughts onto paper. For whatever reason, they seem more "real" to me which gives me a sense of urgency to be more productive. Maybe I'm just playing a cheap trick on my brain, but for whatever reason it works!
I also like using a highlighter to cross out each item on the list. It provides the gratification of visible progress. Otherwise, a good many accomplishments leave no trace and it's too easy to feel as if I've done nothing.

Very true no matter how digital you go, pen, pencil and paper is what makes me more productive in organizing my ideas and then through my hand. Even when I want to go digital, I use my apple pen and Noteshelf app to get my ideas into work. When you draw your thoughts they are not dreams anymore but productive outputs.
I'm the same way, I prefer to write than to digitally set reminders. Also I struggle to read books online or pdf format, I enjoy physically holding the book and flipping through the next page, man that feeling is exhilarating 😄. Love your content. South African in the house🇿🇦

„Many people lack the ability to externalize their ideas“ This quote is so much more important than one would think... And Nathaniel is a perfect example for this... he makes a living from this ability, from externalizing ideas... and making a living from this ability works in any way shape or form... i have a marketing business and my ability to communicate my ideas to potential clients lets me make tons of money...
I have ADHD, so I've been using pen and paper for the longest time! There's nothing better as I can let my thoughts flow and be as creative as I want to be. Love these tips, thank you so much 🙏
YES. I have the same. Finding the discipline to stick to my planning is the worst. It takes up a lot of energy as I keep fighting to get myself to do stuff. But at the end of the day this leaves me with no energy and no work was done. I am really desparately trying to find a way to break this cycle but it's incredibly hard. It has always been a problem but it definitely got worse with covid...
Have a look at James Clear's book -- Atomic Habits. A no-bullshit no-rainbowy-cliches book on the science of building good habits and stopping bad ones.
@@roosb.967 I have it the same way, and it truly makes me fail at things I know how to do. I have read a lot of discussion revolving around this, and some I understand and relate to, especially when it has to do with coming to sit down and start, and after doing a minute and a half of something you feel tired and you get up and try to do something else even though nothing was done. Some part of it has to do with sitting and once we start, we start thinking of the other things we should do and so we stop doing what we are supposed to do and then the whole cycle breaks and the effort to get back into it is tremendous and tiring. And obviously much more things but that’s one of them.
@@roosb.967 I can relate so much its painful. Here is what I did that has helped me more than any single thing. Start by just writing things down. Get a standard spiral bound notebook (I like the quad ruled) and on the first page make a calendar for the month you are in. The only thing you have to do to be successful in this expiriment is write one line about each day. it could be what you did, how you felt. The idea is to stick with it. If you only open the notebook for 10 seconds to write your sentence fine, you showed up. And even if you miss several days go back and fill in the days you missed you can usually remember about a week. Whatever you do keep that calendar filled in. Then do whatever you want on the other pages write down lists even if you don't have an organized way to keep track of them. Write long form journal entries even if you only do it once a month. Draw stick figures if it floats your boat. As you do this for months on end, patterns will begin to emerge that are completely unique to you. When this happens you can slowly start to systematize that practice. Like Nathaniel said you just have to externalize it before you have any concept of how to utilize it. I've done this for almost a year now and my notebook is my lifeline and I feel totally lost without it.
I like how you mentioned to have people help you be more realistic with your goals because I find a lot of people don’t know that It’s the key to combat us lying to ourselves about how much we could possible do.
I love that you love writing things down too! My family teases me because I have to make lists and otherwise organize my thoughts on paper. It's a necessary step before turning ideas into reality.
I appreciate every detail in this video, the content is great and the amount of effort you’ve put into everything surrounding the content is beautiful and heartwarming. I’ve never seen a UA-camr do this before. I love your aesthetic, you’re fantastic.
The point where it feels overwhelming is exactly what you mentioned about being able to share some of the time with someone that you respect. Its scary how one person can reroute another’s existence and it’s a reminder that we can do that positively for someone else also. Take care of yourself so we can take care of eachother!
Hi Nathaniel! This is the first time ever I'm commenting on something on UA-cam, but I couldn't resist due to two issues: 1) Your content on your channel is too good not to be given a huge hug and thank you so much for - I've been looking for this for ages, and you just rock whatever you you do - so kudos and I take my hat off for you ❤️ And 2) I recently purchased a remarkable 2, it's designed in Norway where I come from, and it's like a digital note pad without the distraction of internet, you can write with different types of pens, draw, download e-books, have your personal writing converted to text, it's just so amazing and have converted my life to a better place in so many ways!
I agree with you. I feel that taking the ideas that float in your head and putting them on paper is the best way to take control of your thoughts and organize them so you don't feel overwhelmed. Greetings from Ecuador.
Owner of a number of notebooks here, endlessly disorganized but many notebooks get filled over the years. Full of thoughts, ideas that never become anything more than words in a book. I like the idea of 90 days time frame.
Everytime I buy a journal, I forget about it or lose track if it with a week or two, with digital its saved to the cloud so at least I never lose it (still forget about it often though). Hey look, a squirrel!
Nice comment buddy, very well meeting you on here, I'm an expert in foreign exchange market. Are you familiar with forex trading.. would you like to explore the idea?
I hope you know, your videos have the some of the most inspiring thing I’ve seen which has in turn help me get on my feet every time I fall apart. Thank you for existing
I have bought a whiteboard. Best buy ever. It's always on the wall so I can see what I want to do and change it every day. Long term projects that I have no time for at the moment do I write in airtable so when I have time for a new project I can take it out from there and put it on the board. I feel very productive with this method. Before I also wrote on paper but than I put it away or lose it. Also I had a lot of paper that got wasted that way.
I don’t know who will see this, but if you’re thinking of employing the methods of organisation mentioned in this video, I recon they’d go great with Marty Lobdell’s lecture on productivity called “Study less study smart.” Hope this tip helps someone out
Thinking about THREE months when setting goals and prioritizing. I’m going to try that. I’ve always gone month by month. - Also, there an awesome UA-cam channel features the whereabouts of a man’s husky. It’s a great time sucker. Just sayin’.

Man, the idea of just planning my life in 3 month span seems a lot more manageable than 3 years or even a whole year. Thanks so much for the idea.
I so agree with you on using pen and paper.
I'm the same way, I prefer to write than to digitally set reminders. Also I struggle to read books online or pdf format, I enjoy physically holding the book and flipping through the next page, man that feeling is exhilarating 😄. Love your content. South African in the house🇿🇦
Just wanted to take a moment to compliment your growth, man. The animations, the writing, the structure of the video as a whole; just fantastic. Love it. Keep doing what you’re doing bro.
I really appreciate your videos, As a chronic procrastinator and a person who is always trying to get their life in order, I find your videos helpful in getting me moving in the right direction.
I love the 3 month timeline idea- amazing! I’m starting it straight away! Thank you! I needed this so badly! 😊
„Many people lack the ability to externalize their ideas“
This quote is so much more important than one would think...
And Nathaniel is a perfect example for this... he makes a living from this ability, from externalizing ideas... and making a living from this ability works in any way shape or form... i have a marketing business and my ability to communicate my ideas to potential clients lets me make tons of money...
Keep up the good content Nathan🙏your videos are so inspiring
Agreed
and SMART.
I have ADHD, so I've been using pen and paper for the longest time! There's nothing better as I can let my thoughts flow and be as creative as I want to be.
Love these tips, thank you so much 🙏
I feel like we have created this misconception that we need these apps to be ''productive'' just because some guy on the internet said so.
everybody is talking about the advice he gave but, i am just blown away by his editing skill
Planning and all is good, but I really fail in the execution part.
LOL
I like how you mentioned to have people help you be more realistic with your goals because I find a lot of people don’t know that It’s the key to combat us lying to ourselves about how much we could possible do.
I literally just saw your Skillshare notification and then saw this! I’m gonna go check out the class!
Take care of yourself so we can take care of eachother!
watching your new class right now. it is so clean and good dudeee
Thank you!! I'm so glad to hear that :)
Thank you Nathaniel for inspiring me to start my own UA-cam channel!❤️🙏🏻 Your content is so educational!!
I agree with you. I feel that taking the ideas that float in your head and putting them on paper is the best way to take control of your thoughts and organize them so you don't feel overwhelmed. Greetings from Ecuador.
My goodness I love these videos Nathaniel! So much wisdom each time, and the way you word your videos make them inspiring.
Thank you Lucy!
I was almost about to report you missing.
😂
That 3-month vision is super helpful for a more realistic view of life. Thank you so much! Badly needed it.
I agree 100% about physical being better. I use the Jibun Techo and its amazing.
When you said "A dog petting a cat", I got distracted and right away searched for the video and watched it.
I'm only 35 but somehow i can't help but feel proud of you as if you were my son. Good work - thank you for sharing!
6:57 You are going to stream on Twitch?! FINALLY! I thought about it long time ago and now you are doing it! Gonna save my Prime Sub ;)
I like to think of Nathaniel as my wise, older brother who gives me advice every time I'm about to go insane.
It's the smell , the sound , the touch of a paper that push me always wanting to use it 😌
I don’t know who will see this, but if you’re thinking of employing the methods of organisation mentioned in this video, I recon they’d go great with Marty Lobdell’s lecture on productivity called “Study less study smart.” Hope this tip helps someone out
This video is clear and conducive... what kind of work Do you do? It's a miracle I watched this.
three resources we only have a limited amount of: time, attention and fucks to give
yeah not sure about the attention and fucks to give..
Wow, sooooo profound!
I'm guessing you just read Mark Manson's book... 😏
I've never agreed with anyone so fast before except with this guy! Thank you 🙏🏼
The greatest gift you can give someone is your undivided "time and attention".
Let's get stuff done! Thanks for the vid Nathaniel
Thinking about THREE months when setting goals and prioritizing. I’m going to try that. I’ve always gone month by month. - Also, there an awesome UA-cam channel features the whereabouts of a man’s husky. It’s a great time sucker. Just sayin’.
Yes 3 months is interesting.
I want to be like you when I grow up! We are probably the same age but you seem so far from where I currently am in life. I hope to continue my journey with "you". I love your channel and wish you the best!
