Just got back to Australia after six months living in the mountains of India working on my first ever documentary...that I'm totally not qualified/experienced enough to make...but it was amazing! I'm planning to go back soon so I can stay in one of the villages I spent time in and finish it. I thought Paris was god’s gift to earth, until I wandered villages in the alps and riviera for 6 weeks and witnessed sincere serenity and beauty that transcends time. Villages age like fine wine. Excited for you, Nathanial! I’d love to hear how the feelings of connectedness and community evolve as you settle in, it’s the only thing that keeps me in the city.
It's funny how almost all the UA-camrs I follow are in this transition period, from being full time travellers to, settling down, marrying, having kids or slowing their lives down. From city kids to desiring some peace and tranquility in life.... Maybe it is a sign we are growing up and have a better understanding of what really is important. At least for me there is nothing more important than enjoying silence and tranquility. Also craving a piece of land in the mountains closer to nature. Is in my near future! Enjoy your journey!
I'm French, I moved to the country side as well this summer (in a small moutain village). Nothing beats a charming village, full of traditions, surrounded by nature. It feels like 70s France. Have fun in the country side, I think you will definitely enjoy it.

@@judeskingsbury5549I think so many people feel this way because it’s embedded in our culture. About 4 years ago I realised, hang on, wait..... if there’s never any rush, and nothing I ever have to actually do, does that mean I’m just allowed to relax and enjoy life as it comes fully? Forever? I can be like that forever? WOW what a freedom that’s as to realise. That feeling was new for me but has been with me now ever since. The relief from that is amazing and life only gets better and more fulfilling and it makes you feel like you have so much beautiful time
My grandparents came from a tiny village just outside Lussan, France. I spent most summers with them and fell in love with the peace, the calm, the quietness and of course the natural beauty of the region. My siblings hated visiting for all the reasons I loved so for many years its was just me and the grands. They have been gone a long time and my mother sold the house and land. If I could have afforded to buy it I would have done so in a second. Thanks for sharing your story - it made me long for those days - my brain and body seek out the calm and peace once again.
What I’ve gotten from watching your video’s is that you are restless and get bored with daily life easily. You look for inspiration, thus you will continue to travel and never settle down in one location. All the best to you!
I can relate to this in some way. 10 month ago I left Berlin (after 20 years) and moved to the countryside. Leaving the chaos of a metropol and finding the harmony of nature and the simple life, was the best decision. Peace and ampleness. I wish you the best!
An old lady here. This is true living you are experiencing. The joys of exploring all that is there and recognizing the changes of our hearts dream and moving on. Never comforting or to give in to what now seems out of place. I may be biased as I have always been a bit of a gypsy. Now being settled for 10 years, my surroundings and life’s days are to common. Sparks are calling so will be exploring new areas in the spring. Excited to see how close to your folks you have landed. Cheers 🇨🇦
I feel the same way about life in the city. For years I dreamed of living in San Francisco, it was so much fun to visit and play in. But after spending time with friends who actually lived in the city, it was clear that the little spark of excitement fizzles when you face the realities of day to day life. Congrats on making the transition. Hope you get to soak in all that sweet nature.
absolutely! cities that are fun to visit arent usually the ones nice to live in. NYC is a nightmare to live in but so much fun. same with London (although not a nightmare so much as it's just unaffordable for the vast majority). Now I'm in LA and I find it a good balance. I wouldn't recommend it to visit unless you just want to see the beautiful weather, but the parts that make it a poor visit (too spread out, can't do much in a day/week) make it a good abode! for me at least
Lol, I'm reading this from my apt in Nob Hill, the fog settled over the GG bridge with the foghorns wailing in the background. The clanking of the next door cable-cars. passing by. I can't think of a better place to live.
That is a dream of mine. Congratulations. It's wonderful to explore and experience many different ways of life. You are living the life that many of us day-dream about.
I was shaving so i couldn't really look at the video. I can most definitely say though, that this is one of the most pleasant videos I've listened to, ever. I've also bumped into you 2 or 3 times in the 9th arrondissement. Special mention for the Passage Briare, which I use every day to go to work :) Thank you for paying such a beautiful tribute to the neighborhood through your work. This makes me so excited ahaha. I am an Australian learning French at the moment with the overarching goal of living in France one day. I spend 2 months in France last year, and fell in love. Spent 99% of my time in the countryside in the middle of France, it was calming. Love this content Nathaniel.
It's funny to see this American slowly becoming french by staying long term in the country (and not being an expat of just a few years, which gives no deep understanding). You can see him going through the same conclusions and choices that french people have held for centuries. When foreigners arrive in France, first they're like :"wow I love Paris I'm going to stay there forever" Then a few years later it becomes "Paris is cool, yeah... I'm probably going to work there but I would like a house outside of paris, I start to feel really tired" Then a few years later it's becoming "I'm tired of having to go work in Paris everyday, I really like my country side, I would like to find a job very close around my home" Then it's becoming a few years later: "I don't really need to go to Paris anymore after all... I'm fed up with this city and I would like to discover other cities in France" Then a few years later : "Oh my god I realized that my regional city is so much better than Paris, it's like a mini paris but without all the inconveniences, and it's calm, and beautiful, and I know everybody here, I truly founded my home" Then a few years later "I hate those Parisians coming on holidays in my city and region, they respect nothing, they're noisy, they're terrible " Then 30 years later, the same conclusion as 80% of the real french people living outside of Paris : " I hate Paris"
Why do you have to stake a claim on what real french-ness is and exclude the reality of millions of French people living in Paris? Both sides are obviously emblematic of different parts of French heritage. Cities have existed as long as humans have not been nomadic, makes no sense to claim some high ground over them.
@@matiasgrioni292 You're so out of topic, you're comment looks so generic and makes no sense, literally like an empty shell. I don't claim anything. I don't say anywhere that Paris is better than the countryside or vice versa. I just expose the usual (this is not absolute and there's always exceptions to the rule) process of 80% of FOREIGNERS arriving in the country through Paris. Just read other comments of real french people that says exactly the same thing before playing the virtuous white youtube knight, you're laughable Why do you feel so offended? And I know very well that process because.. I'm french, I lived in the country my entire life, and I spent time in each part of the country, Paris included. And I've encountered THOUSANDS of french people AND foreigners who went through the same conclusions. It's a cultural thing that you can't be aware of if you have never spent time IN the country. You know, locals know their country better than foreigners, that's a real thing you know, big news. Go to ask Chinese people who have lived their entire life in China, that they "claim" stuff about their own culture, we're watching you and waiting to laugh. So next time you're arriving with such ignorance and judgment, telling locals that they're ignorant about their own country, and that you know better than them, remember that you're ridiculous.
I bought an apartment in the French countryside last year and I only get to visit it 3 times a year. I cry when I have to come back to the US to my big city, even though I love my city and my family that lives there. This video makes me long for my quiet, peaceful life in the south of France. I pray that one day soon I will be able to treat my city like chocolate cake.
Aw, love this story. I’m hooked. The images and scenes you captured of rural France are so spot on. Just came back from a week long bike trip along the Loire. In the west where it’s a lot more remote. Reminds me of some of the town we visited there. Good luck on your journey. I’ll tag along for a bit.
Excellent, fantastic vid! To be so young and enjoying your life is remarkable to watch. I wish all young people could experience such a life. I know I wish I could’ve. Well done!
Nathaniel, That was extraordinary! It seems your art, both in storytelling and cinematography, is constantly reaching new heights. I am 65 and relate completely to this entire landscape that is the mood and emotions of craving a change. I left the USA in 2022 and built a brand new life for myself just north of Guatemala in MX. Your beautiful talent for sharing your life with depth and authenticity is an incredible gift to all of us, and you remind me (uncannily!) of my oldest son. I adore your parents too, and am still patiently awaiting a new video from them as well. 😉😉 Thank you for all the blood, sweat, and tears you shed to make these amazing videos.❤️💙🇲🇽🇫🇷
From seeing your video on heights, I KNOW the shot at 3:42 had to have KILLED you to make ;) & Are you kidding? You totally left us hanging!! We gotta see the house! What a seriously fantastic video. I love how your storytelling is evolving and changing shape over time. It's seriously inspiring.
Nathaniel, this is one of the best videos I’ve seen of yours! So well layed out, put together, smashed apart and put together again. At least, that is what I felt watching it. Maybe akin to how you felt in this journey of finding a new place to call home. Thanks.
You are very comfortable with creative people....your parents, this couple that you rented a room from. Your photography from your video was breath taking and made me yearn to pack my bags and head to France while I am sitting here in an almond orchard in Central California during harvest time so I am surrounded by major harvest noise and dust!! Your family is adorable...your mother with her animated/excited face and then there is your Dad...say it with feeling Papa...."Yay"!!
I finally see a genuine, happier Nathaniel! I'm glad you followed my advice to not take yourself too seriously and let things go with the flow. I'm happy for you and really enjoyed this video.
I started out with your parents and love them! I have seen you in their videos and now in your own. When you broke out into song it also became love too. I love the passion! When you said something about trying to figure out and make decisions about the “rest of your life” I thought that this might be an enduring problem. You mustn’t think that you should usurp your future self. Provide for your future indeed but always keep freedom in every stage of your life. It is an incongruity that you would think such a thing now as you are exercising life-changing freedom. I have entered my eight decade and have laid all of the groundwork for an international move to somewhere I have never been and never expected. The new house will be completed in May and I await getting the residency visa. I can’t imagine living now according to decisions made 10, 20, 30, or more years ago but I do thank the ability and freedom now afforded by things done then. I look forward to following your adventures.
i love how you take up space and lean in and express all those thoughts you have about just simply life i think it's really confident to deem them relevant and unique, to consider you have a story to tell that noone else can (which is a 100% true!) i wish you only the best for this new chapter✨️
This was one of my favorite videos you’ve made! I had a huge smile on my face the entire time. Love the chocolate cake analogy, the side by side expectation vs reality and also meeting your wonderful hosts. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
What a great video man. Loved it. So glad you are searching and looking actively, many never even try. Most give up when things get rough. Not you. It's like you go head in after everything. Love that. And then we always learn the hard way that there are so many more things to do to prepare to do anything major like a big move. Hope you find your happiness. Loved the funny moment you were singing. As a fellow biker I can say things rarely go smoothly my friend but never give up. Love from Kingsport, TN and the United States. Safe travels my friend.
Love this for you, Nathaniel! I resonate with a lot of what you're going through and wouldn't be surprised if I end up getting a piece of land in the middle of nowhere in a close future. Can't wait to continue to witness your journey unfold.
I came here to comment the same thing. I loved the Amélie music in the background. It fit so well to the way he told the story. (But I might be biased since my name is Amélie😊)❤
So glad you are back to making videos. We lived in the French village of Noyers-sur-Cher for a year and then out in the country in Mareuil-sur-Cher for another year and loved it. Can’t wait to hear more about your journey!
I have been following you since August 2019 (I had to check, yes) and, as always, I connect so much to your deep thinking and approach to life. It feels like we have evolved in similar ways, even if our lives are so different. I am filled with joy whenever I watch your videos and am so happy for you. The quality of the production is stunning. I loved the part where you lip-synced to that song, as it's a goofy part of you that we don't see that often here. You are a wonder of a person. Keep on doing what you do. For some reason, this sentence came to mind, so I'll end this comment with it: "Tómate la vida en broma, pero vívela en serio."
Bravo, Nathaniel. While the next whistle stop may not toot its horn for you forever, and while others might continue to push back that you should stay at each stop, wherever you drop your bags and regardless for how long, they’re lucky to have you. ❤
Another amazing video, Nathaniel Drew! You still hold the #1 spot as my favorite UA-camr and it looks like I’m not alone! Great work🙌🏻keep living and creating to the fullest!
Laughter out loud at your father's reaction! I love how you keep testing your wings. We need more videos about not letting ourselves become numb to new possibilities.
Dear Nathan, I must say you're excelling yourself every time. What a nice piece of storytelling. It's a pleasure to see your work and life evolving. I'm truly glad for this new turn in your life and that it finally happened. I can't wait for your new projects. Best regards and greetings from Brazil! May God bless you and your family.
It's been awhile since I last watched one of your videos. Probably a couple of years. Very glad to hear how well you're thriving since last I left off. And to be honest I did wonder how long it would take you to feel ready to move on from the hustle and bustle of a big city that is Paris. So pleased that you are kicking butt and taking names. BTW thanks to your vids I've started watching your parents videos. They happen to be in my age group, so it feels a bit more familiar seeing how they have made the successful transition. I am planning my retirement to France next year from America. And I am so excited about the prospect. All the best Nate.
I really needed to hear this today 😊 This is my first ever comment in UA-cam even though I have followed several channels for years. I would love to move somewhere warm. I am from Finland (happiest nation for 7 years in a row), but the winters and darkness are just too much for me. It feels like a crazy decision to make sometimes - working a retail job back home so I can go back to a remote village and just be part of life there, but seeing videos like yours Nathaniel reminds me that I'm not alone in wanting any of these things :) thanks for doing what you do!
You have been searching for a long time, now you are learning too be present with life! In the moment so to speak! All the best!!!
i love how authentic and cinematic your videos are. please never stop creating!!
This! is what UA-cam was made for!! Crying tears of joy for the wonderful gift of life we've been given. Thank you!!!
This feels like what living should be. It’s a joy to live vicariously through your adventures, Nathaniel.
It’s been around 1,5 years since I’ve watched your videos and I have to say…. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECES YOURE CREATING!!!!
The storytelling, the sound, the color grading… everything is so captivating and inspiring! I’m loving every minute of every new episode. Keep dreaming, keep changing, keep bringing the magic 🎉🙏
I’ve been watching your videos for years and I just love your content , it gets better and better
The cinematography, the storytelling... I loved it!!! ❤
I am following Nathan for few years and he amazed me with his unique storytelling and his life visions. Very few content creators are genuine and this guy is not one of them. Whatever you do brother, I want you find peace in your soul. Good wishes from Italy.
I love when you said “you don’t have to rush through your life if you don’t want to.” That was so needed for me, thank you!
That made me cry! Struck such a deep truth for me❤️
@@judeskingsbury5549I think so many people feel this way because it’s embedded in our culture. The relief from that is amazing and life only gets better and more fulfilling and it makes you feel like you have so much beautiful time
definitely more than one person who needed to hear this...
consider me joining the club:)
Exactly that, same here ❤
My grandparents came from a tiny village just outside Lussan, France.
@@pwp8737 at least if you earn over $180k!
That is a dream of mine. Congratulations. It's wonderful to explore and experience many different ways of life. You are living the life that many of us day-dream about.
Everytime there's a new video of yours, I keep it as a little treat for myself for a busy or stressful day. I absolutely love your work Nathaniel!
I was shaving so i couldn't really look at the video.
I can most definitely say though, that this is one of the most pleasant videos I've listened to, ever. From the musical choices, to the delightful narration, to the poetic lines.
I really enjoyed the different language exchanges, your humble openness to the beauty of life, and that spark that you have that makes this channel so enjoyable. Thanks for creating this. Good luck to your new chapter!
@sophisticast6959 thank you! I'll check it out 👌
Nathaniel's best videos yet
As a French person who grew up in the north, in the middle of nowhere, and has been traveling the world for a while, you reminded me of my childhood. Thanks for sharing. "France has so much more to offer than just Paris"
I guess we were neighbors in Paris, because I know very well many of the places you film in your videos, and they're right next door to me (Rue des Martyrs). I've also bumped into you 2 or 3 times in the 9th arrondissement. Special mention for the Passage Briare, which I use every day to go to work :)
Thank you for paying such a beautiful tribute to the neighborhood through your work.
From a 30 years old Frenchman, long-time fan
Why do I find your vlogs better than movies? This is otherworldly beautiful, Nathaniel. You are an art yourself. Please don't stop sharing the world through your point of view.
Can relate so much to this feeling. And I love the analogy of the chocolate cake. Living in a big, vibrant city can be an overwhelm and finding balance is key. I am currently looking and hopefully finding my future place closer to nature as well.
Nathaniel, you're not only excellent in story telling but also blessed with a natural acting talent. I am glad you moved to the country side and I can see how happier you are now.
You speak the words of the soul and what we all think but don’t always have the courage to share. You’re allowing us to reconnect with ourselves, needs and desires. Please keep putting these videos, France is also my biggest inspiration for just about everything in life. I have the biggest wish to visit the south and you help me reach that dream. Merci beaucoup!
I discovered your channel in 2019 and have been inspired by your way of life and philosophies. It almost feels like I know you as I would a close friend. Thank you for taking us with you as you make such difficult changes in your life. I can't wait to see where your new home is.
I've watched your last 3 videos as I myself embark on the journey of finding where to move, away from Paris, and how to pick. You are SO GOOD at what you do. This is sending a peaceful, wise, calm and just attitude towards a scary process.. Thank you
I've followed you for...wow 7 years.
This is my favorite video of yours and I'm genuinely happy that your personal evolution keeps going.
Your videos are becoming better and better. This one felt like I was watching a really good art house film. It's like the perfect blend between UA-cam and cinema.
Oh, how I've missed these videos. Deeply authentic, poetic, and beautifully produced. Welcome back, Nathaniel from the countryside haha. Great to see that your curiosity about life continues to create amazing videos, year over year
I feel like like wére growing toge5her, thank you for thoses years. Your content is a real source of inspiration. I'm 26 and slow down ! Keep going Nath !
Thanks Nathaniel for sharing this beauty inside of your soul, and although for making my rainy day a bit less rainy today.
Your skill with narrative on this platform is at such a high level now. Wonderful to watch this rise in craft - wonderful, too, to watch these great stories!
This makes me so excited ahaha. I am an Australian learning French at the moment with the overarching goal of living in France one day. I spend 2 months in France last year, and fell in love. Spent 99% of my time in the countryside in the middle of France, it was calming. Love this content Nathaniel.
The sad thing is France is dying :(
@@bengoloitachi2565and so is every other western country… Even here I Canada, it’s nothing like it was just 10 years ago.
It's funny to see this American slowly becoming french by staying long term in the country (and not being an expat of just a few years, which gives no deep understanding). You can see him going through the same conclusions and choices that french people have held for centuries.
When foreigners arrive in France, first they're like :"wow I love Paris I'm going to stay there forever"
Then a few years later it becomes "Paris is cool, yeah... I'm probably going to work there but I would like a house outside of paris, I start to feel really tired"
Then a few years later it's becoming "I'm tired of having to go work in Paris everyday, I really like my country side, I would like to find a job very close around my home"
Then it's becoming a few years later: "I don't really need to go to Paris anymore after all... I'm fed up with this city and I would like to discover other cities in France"
Then a few years later : "Oh my god I realized that my regional city is so much better than Paris, it's like a mini paris but without all the inconveniences, and it's calm, and beautiful, and I know everybody here, I truly founded my home"
Then a few years later "I hate those Parisians coming on holidays in my city and region, they respect nothing, they're noisy, they're terrible "
Then 30 years later, the same conclusion as 80% of the real french people living outside of Paris : " I hate Paris"
So beautiful, as always. Thank you for inviting us to glimpse into your adventure of life. We are here with you.
This was stunning in every way. Love the cinematography, editing, storytelling…etc Thank you for sharing your hard work and art with us!
Your beautiful talent for sharing your life with depth and authenticity is an incredible
gift to all of us, and you remind me (uncannily!) of my oldest son. I adore your parents too, and am still patiently awaiting a new video from them as well. 😉😉
Thank you for all the blood, sweat, and tears you shed to make these amazing videos.❤️💙🇲🇽🇫🇷
I love love love the storytelling in this video❤🔥thanks for taking us along!
Nathaniel, this is one of the best videos I’ve seen of yours! So well layed out, put together, smashed apart and put together again. At least, that is what I felt watching it. Maybe akin to how you felt in this journey of finding a new place to call home. Thanks.
I am living vicariously through you @Nathaniel Drew
You are very comfortable with creative people....your parents, this couple that you rented a room from. Your photography from your video was breath taking and made me yearn to pack my bags and head to France while I am sitting here in an almond orchard in Central California during harvest time so I am surrounded by major harvest noise and dust!! Your family is adorable...your mother with her animated/excited face and then there is your Dad...say it with feeling Papa...."Yay"!!
I love that you're doing this fresh style. I'm a long time viewer, it's great to see you keep changing and growing
Sequential videos are a great move, as is the direction of the next chapter of life in the countryside. I wish you well Nathaniel
I finally see a genuine, happier Nathaniel! I'm glad you followed my advice to not take yourself too seriously and let things go with the flow. I'm happy for you and really enjoyed this video.
The bloopers at the end make it feel much more authentic. I appreciate your honest attempt to show reality. Thank you ❤😊
I started out with your parents and love them! I look forward to following your adventures.
i love how you take up space and lean in and express all those thoughts you have about just simply life
i think it's really confident to deem them relevant and unique, to consider you have a story to tell that noone else can (which is a 100% true!)
i wish you only the best for this new chapter✨️
You're videos are really making me smile lately. Wishing you the best on your journey!
This was one of my favorite videos you’ve made! I had a huge smile on my face the entire time. Love the chocolate cake analogy, the side by side expectation vs reality and also meeting your wonderful hosts. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
I am absolutely in love with how your editing style has evolved. Wishing you all the best x
This video was just... beautiful. The production value, you, it was spectacular. Thank you for sharing this new journey with us.
Your parents shall be extremely delighted to have you staying with them. Good luck on your incredible journey 🎉
Yet again I see you going through similar things and coming to the same conclusions as myself. Such a joy having you on this journey with me!
You are one of the best storytellers I’ve ever seen. Thank you for sharing your journey with us 🙏✨
Love this for you, Nathaniel! I resonate with a lot of what you're going through and wouldn't be surprised if I end up getting a piece of land in the middle of nowhere in a close future. Can't wait to continue to witness your journey unfold.
One of my favorite videos of yours, when the Amelie music played my heart sang!
Such a well made piece with a very relatable message that isn't lost in platitudes.. not easy to find on youtube!! Bravo
You're an artist too! I love your episodes, your philosophy, your questions, your search for answers... you're so sympathetic!
I loved your vídeo, Daniel: from the deeper personal message, to the narrative, the editing, … I am glad you are back to posting
Just when I think your videos can’t get any better, you surprise me. You’re so talented love this journey for you 🙏🏽
Very inspiring! The imagery and choice of sounds and music just exquisite. We will be starting our exploratory trip in October
Laughter out loud at your father's reaction! I love how you keep testing your wings. We need more videos about not letting ourselves become numb to new possibilities.
I did too!!😂😂
So happy for you man! Love how your journey is evolving in your life and how you create masterpieces to share it here!
Can’t wait for the next video!
I was born to British parents in Provence, south of France, absolutely love the countryside, totally couldn’t live in a city.
There is something truly inspirational about this video, about your journey, about your changes. 🖤
This is so beautiful Nathaniel! Thank you for sharing your evolution with us! It is such a treat😋
What a well-made video. Never stop creating.
you seem so happy there! excited to see how this new journey goes for you
Dear Nathan, I must say you're excelling yourself every time. What a nice piece of storytelling. It's a pleasure to see your work and life evolving.
I'm truly glad for this new turn in your life and that it finally happened. I can't wait for your new projects.
Best regards and greetings from Brazil! May God bless you and your family.
I love this! So happy for you! Glad you continue to love the journey. Thanks for sharing your life.
Holy macaroni! Nathan’s videos are getting soooo good! I’m actually in love! Best story telling and cinematography on UA-cam right now in my opinion!
obsessed with this new series
I really needed to hear this today 😊 This is my first ever comment in UA-cam even though I have followed several channels for years. I would love to move somewhere warm. I am from Finland (happiest nation for 7 years in a row), but the winters and darkness are just too much for me. I am currently studying French and maybe one day I will live somewhere near the Mediterranean coast of France ❤ Anything is possible, it is all about the energy you send out to the Universe 🙏 You are an inspiration to so many Nathaniel, thank you 😍
