I also prioritize my more thorough housework on an annual calendar. This includes cleaning and organizing closets, bureaus, kitchen cupboards, washing windows, etc.
I complete outdoor projects during the summer and indoor projects during the winter. I allow one large project per month. In other words, I allow myself an entire month to complete one project. In this way, everything is accomplished at least once a year.
If I don't feel the need to do certain projects, I take a month off. If I want to do more within a month, I do. I'm free to make new decisions or do nothing. This is just a general routine that I keep in mind for the sake of sanity.
Most of the time, I rarely need to re-organize, because I never make a mess in the first place. I like to pick up as I go by - so very few things are astray.
I like to sweep or do dishes on a daily basis. For sweeping, try a swivel sweeper. For dusting, try a long-handled magnetic wand.

I started using therapeutic writing two years ago as a complementary therapy for anxiety, it's a process of writing stories that keep ruminating in the mind, and solidifying that energy makes my unconscious alter the little details, my feelings, the way I seek to digest this story, and I end up "emptying my heart" that way, and it has helped me a lot. We can’t change other people, We only can change ourselves

I use notebook paper and a pencil. I erase and update on one piece of paper until it's worn out.
I use several clipboards as needed. One for the household and more for any projects. Each project gets its own clipboard. All the clipboards are different colors.
On the first page of my household clipboard, I list priorities at the top, errands on the left, household chores on the right and future priorities at the bottom.
On the second page of my household clipboard, I list my annual budget. I use categories, such as property tax, utilities, vehicle and groceries. This enables me to easily adjust expenses, because they change throughout the year.
Additional pages are random or miscellaneous subjects or minor projects. As previously stated, major projects get their own clipboard.

Nathaniel, this is such a powerful piece. It was my 22nd birthday today, but I was feeling so lost and upset. I was dreading to go to work daily even though I’m in a rewarding field I’m passionate about. No matter how hard I try, I can never separate my self worth from my job because it’s something I take so much pride in. However, you reminded me of something. The “why” that I have long forgotten. And I think it has sparked a new strength to keep me going, push boundaries and get back up after making mistakes.
It is so inspiring, to see the amount of thought and sensitivity you put into the videos. It makes me want to do better. Thank you. I hope that you keep doing what you do.

I loved the analogy of the computer in this video and I really needed this. As someone who was purely focused on maximizing productivity, I didn't realize just how often I'm overloading my ram. I have a schedule to tell me exactly what to do for my working hours, but whenever I'm alone not working, my mind is just confused and I start to get anxious, I never realized why, but now I know: it's because I never offload my ram at the end of each day. I always am doing something, but never slowing down and let the little thoughts that come up go, and eventually they pile up in the ram and makes me anxious.
I will definitely be more intentional about my thoughts and organize them by journaling in the future, thanks for this video!

Can absolutely vouch for journaling helping anxiety. I started journaling when I got some bad medical news a few years ago (nothing life threatening, thank god, but potentially life altering over the long term). When I got home that day I had a new email from my penpal. I wrote back, throwing in the news. I noticed how immediately better I felt, just getting the news, and the anxiety around it, out of my head and somewhere else, and went out to buy a journal that same day

Nathaniel your videos are so beautifully made. The aesthetical beauty is really helping to deliver a deep message. I love that you put so much work into a 10 minutes video, it really shows how much time you work on them (maybe because I'm a youtuber too so I know 🙄) so when I see a new one I wait to have a quiet moment to watch it because I really focus my attention on every second of it.
That's enough with compliments, I actually commented because I wanted to ask a genuine question. In this video you touched a topic I've been thinking about for years and years. I have a very active mind and too many thoughts. I tried a few times in my life to write down my thoughts, but every time I have the same problems: they are way too many than what my conscious mind can process and my hand can write. Simply too many and it's hard to order them in a hierarchy in my mind. Even when I find a hierarchy, it would take me one or two hours every day if not more to write them down and I don't think that's an efficient way of living and working. How do you solve this problem?

Thank you so much for sharing this video . It’s hands down one of the most useful content I’ve seen while exploring myself in this crazy chaotic world . It shows clarity and simplicity . The thing that I constantly kept thinking as I watch this on and on is how can we develop a community or group to share ideas for constructive criticism? How can we pass the point of sharing these ideas with friends who are awesome but also totally bias ? And how can we trust people when the ideas are only in the making and you’re afraid they could be stolen . I sometimes don’t share my ideas because I’m afraid this will happen. thank you again!

Damn that was such a great video. You have this way of shifting perspectives in a simplistic way that makes me think, “What the heck have I been doing with my life if not that? That is the way I should be living.” So thank you Nathan. I always have a lot of notes to take from your talks

@Walter Clements spot on !!!!! I've been a minimalist for a couple of years now. It's soothing, but it's an ongoing process. It's like keeping inventory on your life to not let clutter and distractions back in. It's a job worth working👍. Stay Blessed 💘.

I've noticed more moving/handheld shots in this video. Do you have another videographer you work with? Also, the graphics look great! Is that also something you outsource or do you create them in house. Huge inspiration! Keep it up!

    Hi Nathaniel,
I love this video and it relates a lot to things that I have been thinking about.
However I would present you with a question. "What is your definition of mental clarity?". One can argue that constantly asking the question "why" complicates your life. This is because there not might always be an answer as to why things happen. Leaving the mind confused and constantly in a chase for meaning.
Mental Clarity can also be defined as clearing your mind of these thoughts as is done through meditation.
Curious of your thoughts about this
