So Billy was arrested in 2018, 2 years after the event and served 6 years in prison. In 2022 he got released from prison and started up a new company PYRT (Pirate) with promises of making a Fyre Festival successor. Last month in 2023 he said Fyre Festival 2 is going to happen and the government of Bahamas preemptively responded to him by declaring that he was a fugitive in their country.

Fun facts:
There is actually a full documentary on Fyre Festival that kind of went into more detail on what was happening behind the scenes.
Basically, the PR and marketing departments knew *way* ahead of time that this was going to be a *complete disaster* and they tried to warn Billy and everyone else who, while they genuinely *did* seem to want to make the event work, clearly had *no idea* wtf they were doing and had alredy made so many lofty promises and took so much money that they couldn't push the event back to find a better location like they had planned or better prepare even if they wanted to.
Billy's own debts messing with his decision making was just the icying on the cake
In fact, apparently, they really *did* reserve a private island which *really did* used to be owned by one of Escobar's lieutenants or some such. But one of the clauses in the contract was that they couldn't use that fact for marketing, which they *did* and even exagerated it for publicity. This naturally resulted in the contract being dissolved and them being left without a location a mere 6 months before the event.
And the talk about a storm wasn't complete nonsense. They *did* set up the location, however shabby it was, but the storm not only soaked everything but also just completely wrecked it the night before the event.
But arguibly the biggest victims by far were the locals who basically dug into their own pockets to help make the event possible for the potential revenue it could bring to the community.
The vast majority were not and , I think, still *are not* compensated for , basically, months of unpaid labor.

Keep in mind one of the Documentaries was done by one of the companies that worked for Billy so there is a bias issue with it. From what I heard they omitted some details but they were proven to be substantial but it is pretty shady. Which sucked cause I liked that documentary but now I have to talk it with a side of salt.

To answer your question, I believe he did go to jail, got out not too long being locked up, and earlier this year announced Fyre Festival 2.

There are also 2 more festival vids that Internet Historian did, and they are just as wild as this oneee. There was the Tumblr event called Dashcon where people got scammed out of thousands of dollars, and then a furry convention called Rainfurrest where the attendees wrecked the hotel. I'm sure you would get a laugh and shock out of that.

Billy did in fact go to jail. its just that internet historian was making the video before it was settled, its why he says he'll keep people posted.If i remember correctly he just got out this year. But i might be wrong about that part.
To add to this, he served 4 years in prison before being released to a halfway home in 2022. He tried to get released during the pandemic, claiming to have asthma, but there was no success. According to his Twitter, he plans on doing Fyre Festival II, but no details as of yet. The Bahamas considers him a fugitive, so it probably won't be there if it happens

Edit: After a better suggestion by a fellow commenter, I'd highly reccomend his video "The Acali Raft experiment" as your first video. Great story and much less grim compared to everything else he's covered.
I second Wendigoon as a creator, but recommend the Acali Raft as a first dip. It's a feel-good story, unlike some of the more... grim... subject matter he goes into.

Norman's Cay _was_ used by the Medellín Cartel, and by association Pablo Escobar. But the current owners _really_ wanted the property to move away from that reputation.
They agreed to let Fyre Festival use their island...on the _strict_ condition that they do _not_ bring up or even mention Pablo Escobar's association (via the Medellín Cartel) with the island.
As you know, the announcement video dropped, and name-dropping Pablo Escobar was the _first thing_ marketing did. This, of course, pissed off the owners, who _immediately_ cancelled arrangements.
So, Fyre Festival had to _scramble_ and hastily relocated to Great Exuma on short notice.

At the time this video was released, Billy hadn't been convicted. He _was_ subsequently convicted and sentenced to 6 years in jail, of which he spent about 3.5 years before being released.

Even if they hadn't done the festival Billy would still be in trouble due to how awful his company Magnises was doing. Before the festival Magnises was already under fire for various reasons like the owner of the townhouse he used for it filed a lawsuit due them trashing the building and basically their membership cards not working.

actually freezing the assets is a good thing. it assures that the Defendant is not allowed to access the funds, basically preserving the bank account for lawsuit payouts and preventing them from fleeing to a different country (since theyre broke)

I've seen IH's video on Fyre Festival about a dozen times, and every time I see it, I'm baffled by how much of a mess it actually was. As for other videos to check out, I'd recommend more Max0r videos, such as his Bloodborne, Yakuza 0, and Doom Eternal videos. I won't say his Elden Ring videos because you've just started playing Elden Ring and it's best to have a clean experience of the game

Edit: Billy McFarland did actually do jail time. He served 4 years of a 6 year sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud. He was released back in 2022
according to what i remember of one video i saw, Macfarland supposedly fired anyone who tried to convince him to wait and reconsider his ideas, replacing them with people who would agree with him. I could be misremembring and getitng confused with something else.
I imagine the airport staff locked them in to keep them organized. They wanted these people gone as soon as possible, so they didn't want anyone wandering around the airport. They wanted everyone gathered in one room so they could shuffle them onto the plane as soon as it was ready.

Fyre festival is proof that rich people literally do not think. If the average person can tell you the ticket prices are too low without needing to break out a calculator, then how little is billy thinking? The answer is not at all, because being born into that kind of wealth makes it hard to imagine consequences
Money is a poor person thing. Rich people don't often think about money because they typically always have it and they generally have help who handles their money for them.
Instances like this happen when a rich person doesn't realize that their pockets are not, actually, bottomless, and their lack of experience with the cost of things bites them in the ass.
I would love if you would do a reaction to Let’s Game It Out. He’s got a lot of funny gameplay videos. I think a good one to start is his Planet Zoo series. Fyre Festival gave everyone the Refugee Camp experience without the unpleasant and life-threatening dangers of an actual war.
And if the dumpster fire had burned for far longer than it did, Billy McFarland would've had a longer prison sentence for running a death camp.
Billy did get some Jail Time but he got released recently for being a good boi. He did try relaunch Fyre Festival via Crowd Funding but got laughed into shutting up.

This might be up your alley but there's a UA-camr called Rimmy who covered the subject of a guy called "Lord Miles" and the bizarre time he had running around in Afghanistan. Something spectacularly stupid happened, causing an ArmA 3 clan to perform information security so people wouldn't be hunted down by the Taliban.
This just in, Billy just got out of jail and is already planning Fyre II. And there's already signs that it's gonna be just as much of a disaster.

we watched a whole documentary thing in my Criminal justice class about FYRE festival & the downfall, they got the ppl who worked with him to speak their side & such.
I actually learned of the Fyre Festival from Illuminaughtii's channel before Internet Historian.
7:28 That is indeed Rust. Having put hundreds of hours into it, I can tell you it's a pretty rewarding game to learn. As long as you understand that your technological progress is erased in its entirety once a month, and your regular progress besides blueprints is reset once a week. It is not a game for those who cannot let go. But it can be a lot of fun.
Honestly, given IH's later videos and coming off Max0r from yestersday this is a pretty tame video. Also an absolute clusterf-k of an event. I'm still surprised but not shocked not a single celebrity got hosed over this event. Also, it was sus seeing airport lounge pad locked.
