I’m not sure how this works in Germany but in Vienna there’s a class called Lehrpraxis (essentially giving lessons). If you are planning to apply and live near the University, you can sign up as a student and get free lessons from a current student under supervision of a professor. This is a great opportunity to get to know a professor before taking the entrance exam. In Vienna they were always looking for students at that advanced level. Just say you’re preparing for the entrance exam.
This is a good idea. Free lessons
Crazy coincidence! I was talking to my piano teacher the other day about coming to Germany to study music. Your video really is a great help, thank you !
This has been very informative. I’m planning to study in Germany next year. Please keep making more videos like this. They are very helpful.
I always wanted to know what goes on in music studies so thank you for that! And the video editing on this video, marvelous work! Great job!
This video came at the right time for me! I am still unsure what to do in the future and a music university would be an option I would try! So explaining how it works helps me a lot to decide and get a better view thanks :)
This timing is so good im about to graduate from school next year and thoughtg about studying music in germany
Bro, are you in Germany?
Yeh i live in germany @@AshishLugun-ei3bq
Me too bro
Great, informative video! It really does help to know and the quality of the edits have been very good recently. Keep making great vids like these!
I know you never read comments but one thing about playing in those practice rooms underground at universities is that it's never fully soundproof (except the very best universities where the rooms themselves are special soundproof cages) and you can hear other pianists or instruments playing in the next room(s). This has an effect on inner ear and ability to focus on your own music, and will make practicing much less enjoyable and limit your progress. It's so much better to play in a location that has no background noise, you've been lucky to have that.
Hi Annique ! I am french, and at the beginning, I can’t speak English. But with your videos, I can now. Watch your videos are my favourite activity and you are very nice, so THANK YOU ❤ schuss !
Very interesting and helpful video thx
liebe deinen humor tolle kombi mit deinem talent…
lucky you 🍀🍀🍀
Ich werde zwar niemals Musik studieren, aber trotzdem danke für das Video 😁
Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass es so ein Schmerz ist überhaupt einen Studienplatz zu bekommen.
Bitte mehr davon! Sehr interessantes Video!
Hi, I’m currently 13 and I’m studying traditional music at the Junior royal conservitoire of Scotland. I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve gotten through this and it is has been so great for me.
Love the video❤❤
you always rizz me up at least 3 times per video
Thank you for playing my favorite etude Annique
0:30 "Now I wish we also had Chopin, but you know, we can't have everything" 😂
I‘m currently (and for many years now) preparing for my entrance exam. Most universities in Germany differentiate from the beginning (entrance exam) between artistic and pedagogical but Freiburg and Stuttgart. Currently I‘m not so sure if I should prepare further with Brahms first rhapsody or Schumann first sonata first mov. Even though I love the Schumann, I think I can‘t get it up to the expectation till next year‘s exams. But the rhapsody seems to be „too easy“ for the artistic exam compared to what the others play… The constant pressure of not knowing if I‘m good enough really drains a lot some times 😅
And I love how you experiment with the editing and find your own style. Just the sidecards could stay much longer so there‘s enough time to read it.
Hi A., I'm currently taking Music Theory through the Julliard extension school. I was worried that it was going to be well below my skill level and yes there are parts that are very easy but there are parts that are definitely challenging so I think it is a good mix.
The Fees are really surprising, my current high school fees are even much higher then that. Thankyou for this informative videos!
So where did you become SO fluent in English??? There is just a *trace* of an accent and (only) every now and again you look for an English word... but even native speakers can fail at searching for words. And your playing is magnificent. Few players get to the level of playing that you have risen to. I am an admirer.
Ma'am, du bist schön! Danke!
I really wish i could be at your concert yesterday 😢😢
Please also talk more in detail about the options after you get your bachelor's degree
Really interesting.
Amazing and so humbling. Your posts are so enlightening, informative, and fun. But 24 music universities in Germany? But on the map it looks so small. How do they fit them all in?
Music is my main hobby, though...it's electronic music. I started to study just to get to know the language...diploma's and degrees are not as important as de music itself. And...I see an evolution in my music...but...I have no plans to reach your level...besides...age may not allow me (anymore)...thank you for inspiring me...your videos have opened my eyes so I want to learn more...thank you...
4:03 The artistic program made my day 😂
I'm currently 15 and have 3 years left to finish school, this is actually very stressful for me because studying music in germany has always been my dream. This video was a total reality check it's crazy. I have so many questions I want to ask!!
I am considering to study music at the MDW, but it's crazy how high the level is. Even if you just want to become a music teacher at a school, it's required to be as good as if you want to do the concert studies. And the flute doesn't make it better at all haha
love the t-shirt
Very informative ma'am, Subscribed, I am from India 🇮🇳 Assam Guwahati
Hello! I had a question.
At what age did you really start learning piano and music? But like in general and not in superior schools.
Btw thanks for this interesting video.
I’m currently learning Chopin’s Op.10 No.7 right now but I’m struggling on making the right hand smoother and more flowey. Do you have any practicing tips or specific techniques I can use to make it better?
Didnt know that you live in stuttgart until one day.. i was going home from work and saw you in a steinways store playing piano to a small crowd. The store is very small and is right next to my working space. i was like wait isnt that ... xD
I'm just curious as to how many concert pianists find a lucrative career. It seems to be an ocean of great pianists out there. In classical music, it seems to be all about playing some predetermined ideas of interpretation. People routinely argue about what a composer intended or would have wanted, despite being dead for decades or even centuries. I like jazz since it is more about thinking on your feet and using your own ideas.
I don’t know where you are from so (sorry I might miss the introductory video 😅), did you speak fluent German before you start studying piano there ?
Also, I assume all classes are in German only, correct ?
Thanks !
I guess one of the only reason to study in Germany instead of the US is... The cost!!! Otherwise I studied in the US... with a German teacher 🤣, Menahem Pressler. He was teaching at Indiana University where facilities are amazing for students to get so many different experiences. But the most important is the teacher, not the country.
I want to hear you learn Elite Syncopations by Scott Joplin. The timing in the last section is very hard
What's the best way for overseas students to connect with the local professors? I don't think they would reply to any stranger's emails..?
Jak długo grałeś, zanim mogłeś czytać nuty od samego początku? Ile trzeba ćwiczyć i ile czasu dziennie poświęcić na grę na pianinie?
he American journalist and critic H.L. Mencken once wrote that there are two kinds of music: bad music and German music.
Could you play liebestraum no 3, please is my favourie ❤❤
Vorschlag fürs nächste Video: "Why you should study music in Austria instead of Germany" :)
got accepted to leipzig, pretty awesome
Hello✨
Wow
My daughter Cassie studied music since Elementary School, She is a gifted musician, She was a leader in Highschool of the Percussion Section, Cassie mastered all the instruments, as well as the piano, She attended University Classes, Her dream was to be a woman conductor💫🎹🌐✨🌟⭐🥰🏆♀️🛡️ of A Symphony Orchestra, there are very few women conductors in the World 🌎🌏Her father was a musician too, Very Talented😊I Love Music
which is the best one ?
Thanks for the video!! but, we need to know speak german to enter on this university?
Not necessarily in the beginning but you will have to learn the basics of German language and all in all I can only recommend to be able to speak German as it will help you to understand the music and culture better:) you will have to do a language test as foreigner at some point which is on a rather low level:)
@@heartofthekeys I’m sure you know better Annique but I thought a non-native speaker had to show C1 or better, C2 level German to enter a University. Maybe it’s different for music.
Hast du irgendwann im Köln ein Konzert?
How long did you play before you could read the notes right off the bat? How much practice is needed, and how much time should be devoted to the piano in a day?
She was probably doing that at 5-6 years old.
One quick question, how possible is to do a second graduation in Germany? i.g: work as engineer and study music, because here in Brazil it would be possible because of some universities have classes at night
There’s no way you can study music and work at the same time.
Someone just tell me , you have to be on advance level for applying 😵?!the exam is really hard ?
What a good video!👏👏
Do you think age could be an important factor?
I’m currently 25 and i would want to apply as soon as possible.
Are there more chances if I apply for the pedagogical area?
Thank you so much for the video ❤
I have the same Situation. So I would really appreciate if you could answer this. are there any age restrictions for entrance exam?
Same situation here, 25. I have two years left to finish conservatory because of a 7 years break. I would love to know if there's an age limit.
just curious..... is there any age limit? I mean on the upside, say, after a certain age, you can't get it?
I'm studying at a music university here in Germany and I know about a few people who started studying here in their mid to late twenties, even after aquiring a PhD in a completely different field. If your skills are sufficient it's a matter of financial possibilities. I personally study "Schulmusik" though (with a focus on singing), which takes just as long to aquire the Masters and I then I can teach music at public schools and have a safe income. That's also a great alternative because it's still quite challenging to get in but not as competitive and the study programs are great, it's a lot more diverse than the regular studies that focus just on your solo instrument.
Das schönste am Studieren in Deutschland ist dass es aus finanzieller Sicht jeder kann :)
Is music school worth going to if you're talented like Alma Deutscher?
I am ❤
Does anyone here know if annique was both born and raised in Germany? Or did she just study piano here?
Hlo mam. From where did you study music???
Please cause I'm shocked ... 😢help me ... I'm a teenager a 15 year old wanting to enter a music university in Germany... I thought they were going to teach me instruments and music theories and never knew about entrance exams ... Can you tell me how to prepare and is there such coarse ... How many instruments required 😢I'm sad that's my dream
Ok first I’d have to learn german, then prepare to try to learn music in german, 😢. See you there class of 2053!!
🤣
EZ Peasy! Listen to German music while studying German.
During my lifetime I have experienced how the interest in classical music is slowly fading away, except in a handful of great places, which is very sad. Is Germany still an exception? Which are the best countries in Europe for passionate music lovers like me?
Germany, Switzerland, France, Netherland, Belgium.
What about composition?
As far as I know, Mozart wasn't from germany.😅😄
Thatvis why Annique said German speaking region ;)
Simply because there was no Germany at his time. He was born in Salzburg which was the capital of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, an ecclesiastic principality in the Holy Roman Empire. His mother was also from the Salzburg principality, his father from the Free Imperial City of Augsburg. The archduchy of Austria was at this time also part of the Holy Roman Empire. And its capital Vienna at this time the de facto capital city of the Holy Roman Empire (which never had an official capital city).
While not all citizens of the HRE were Germans, the ones speaking German as mother tongue usually referred themselvers as Germans. As did Mozart. He described himself as "Teutscher" (German). Not as Salzburger. Nor as Österreicher (Austrian).
Applying modern laws he would have Austrian and German citizenship.
Schubert, Schoenberg and Mahler are Austrian, not Mozart. @martinstock thanks for the explanation
Are classes taught only in German?
what about australia
how much dorm cost for student in stuttgart per month?
Can you animenz (vogel im kafig) plss
Howabout age ? can accept student over 50?
Too bad that "I'm too old for that shit" ;) I wonder whether can be a "Gasthörer" for some things, is that still a thing, or was ever at music uni? I'm a hobby singer (classical) who wishes he had better sheet reading skills and understanding, perhaps self-accompanying skills on piano, but so far did not really want to go to some modern music school who advertize with, basically, "play your favorite silly tunes without understanding anything!" ;)
Yes! Have seen some Gasthörer of very different age during my studies in Germany. I think it makes sence to check every music university separetely to see what are their conditions for gasthörer :)
@@AnnaKhomichkoPianist Cool! :)
This was very interesting. So the Concert Exam is the equivalent of a PhD. The degree you have is the Concert Exam? Is a dissertation required for the concert exam?
Its not really the uquivalent of a PhD as there wont be a dissertation, just performing. PhD exists for music science, theory etc disciplines but not for those who play an instrument.
@@AnnaKhomichkoPianistShe meant to say DMA. Those who play musical instruments get that instead.
I think Annique meant that it's equivalent in status to a PhD, since both are post Masters qualifications. I had never heard of the DMA, so I suspect Annique hadn't either, but it seems to be the U.S. equivalent of the Konzertexamen.
how to solve the first question without a given time signature 🤔3:14
The Beatles honed their musical skills in Hamburg, Germany. They knew. 😉
And if you are like really really lucky maybe you see Annique 😉
And language ? If you don't speak German ?
Why "instead of the US"? You didn't really discuss why not to study in the USA. A lot of students get scholarships to go to music school - I did not pay for my 2 years Masters at Juilliard, for example.
I think studying anything other than classical music sucks in Germany.
In the US you have so many great musiscians coming from the berklee college. (for example Charlie Puth and many other small artist which i personally enjoy a lot)
Jazz education in Germany for example is pretty scarce.
--
But yeah tution costs are crazy and i have no clue how anyone can afford that shit.
I mean as far as I know berklee at least gives out quite a lot of scholarships.
I would love to come to Germany and treat you to dinner ❤. I’ll bring you a dozen American roses 🌹 😄❤️
Lol, I'm living in Frankfurt am Main 😊
What you "meed" to know?
Concert Exam is DA, not PhD.
Is there any conservatory in german?
Many. Didn’t you watch the video?
She said “university”, which is what some schools in Germany and Austria call themselves now, but in essence, they are conservatories, and they are not part (“school of music”, “faculty of music”) of a university in the traditional sense but independent institutions, like Juilliard or Curtis.
@@albrechtgaub2882 thank you!
Learning Deutsch ist easy if you start early in life, because root of English is Deutsch.
That little Anya peeking from Annique's pocket... Probably you missed it
I believe Mozart was Austrian, wasn't he?
A man gets rejected from a German music school, what happens next will shock you 😳
Hi everyone,
instead of „instead of“ I would suggest „as well as“.
Of course studying music in Germany has a lot of advantages, as the video describes in a very informative way.
As a singer or organist e.g. , it might be even more advisable to spend a great portion of your studies here due to the language or the historic instruments.
On the other hand, from my own experience, I have to say that I owe so much to my studies in the US- I do not want to miss it! As already mentioned, finding the right teacher is of the highest importance.
However, making a living as a professional classical musician might indeed be easiest in german speaking countries, not only for pianists btw..
( my piano professor in Hamburg studied both in Germany and the US; and at IU Bloomington, one of my professors was born in Magdeburg, Germany , the other had studied with Artur Schnabel in New York and was professor in Frankfurt till 1986 before he went to Bloomington.
)
0:24 Seid wann ist Mozart deutsch? 🧐
I think germany is tapped dry, regarding its output of great composers. It had a great run though…Maybe go studying in Scandinavia or the baltic states?🤷♂️
А что делать, если я 13 летний дурачёк, которому даже на проезд в автобусе не хватает денег?
P r o m o S M
is there even a chance for people that are 23-25 years old?
Totally. I studied before in another country and started with my bachelor in Germany when I was 24. And for master you can even start uch later.
@@AnnaKhomichkoPianist that's very nice to hear! Am i allowed to ask at which university in germany did you study?
@@nehath123 I studied in Weimar and in Köln :)
Learning music should not be an elitist VIP thing.
ENTSCHULDIGUNG!!!!! Jetzt ist Österreich nur mehr „deutsch-sprechende Region“!!!?? Excuse me! Z.B. Mozart ist aus Salzburg.....
Aber okay....
beautiful girl
Do you want to study music?
Nope.
