Hi everyone and happy new year!🥳 Which part would you have preferred to play? Team Primo or Team Secondo? Tell me in the comments!🤪❤️ thanks a lot to my sister - it was so much fun! Let us know if you would like to see more of it in the future! 😉
@@elainejohnson796 I never said one can’t or you shouldn’t. You make your own choices. However as you keep commenting on my little comment, I will politely disagree with your original assessment still. Apparently you don’t like my truth either. Good day!
@@elainejohnson796 example 16:34, the entry had a nice even tone, with a bit of sparkle and phrase shape that often a rank amateur won’t have, and she proceeded to have a good balance with her professional pianist sister despite many mistakes. Many a rank amateur would play the pizzicato styled chords with a flat shape and a kind of chunkiness in tone. She had shape chord to chord and her tone was a good match to her sisters obviously professional playing. After a decade away from the piano, and doing a 1:10:1h challenge on a four hands piece, trying to keep up with her very talented professional pianist sister, it was, despite it all, very musical in touch to my mind. I had been away from the piano for about 30 years and it took a few years back to regain my tone and balance. Of course, with a bit of time I’m now back at a level well above my high school days, but cultivating and regaining that sparkle, shape, and tone took some effort. Musicality is not technical brilliance nor is it simply precision playing. I’m not sure why you don’t critique others on this comment who have similar things to say. Also, if you have such a critique, why not post it directly as a comment? And as for truth, I’m not sure why you are also judging me for truth or niceness. I am inclined to truth as it’s part and parcel to my prior life as a physicist. I certainly not sure why you invoke niceness as a critique. Again, if that is something you are concerned with, why not apply your comment to the rest of the commenters on this list who are similarly nice and complementary.
@@pineapple._. Hello Emily; I just noticed too. I just didn't get this other person's critique - either of myself, or as implied of Chantal. I usually don't rise to answer, given this is a musical channel, where Annique give us amateurs a glimpse into the process and playing of a fine professional like herself, and then get to share some learning points when she invites her sister to play also. It is just strange that someone would (1) question my truthfulness (2) question my "nice" motivations when I simply pointed out: (A) Chantal does have some nice natural musicality (b) I liked the video... Sorry to pollute this channel, but I could not bite my tongue in this instance as the commenter would not give up the thread...I'm not sure why my amateur "piano teacher critique analysis" was demanded by this other commenter... Sigh... Lets just enjoy this channel!
This was a funny video. Humor is so much needed these days! Chantal was such a good sport to subject herself to this. Only because you asked, my very favorite four hands piece is Mendelssohn's Andante & Allegro Brilliant, Op 92. It's really hard, so not expecting it. Thank you Annique and Chantal for an entertaining video! 😄
I would love to see more from you and your sister. You have a great adult relationship. I can relate to the feeling of competition when younger. My brother and I were very aggressive in our music classes in school. I am so grateful for the time spent with him today.
Standing Ovation ! That was so much fun. I hated to see it end. Together you two are a UA-cam sensation. I hope you can do that again. Chantal was great.
This was so fun to watch! Reminds me of how my twin sister and i got into huge fights when we were learning four-handed pieces. Please do the whole Nutcracker suite with your sister :)
I loved the part where you asked her questiones, it was cool to see what a non professional (but still very good) pianist thought... I think we all agree, that we would love to see more of your sister and you!
Great fun and great work too! My sisters and I grew up playing piano duets and trios all the time! When we get a new one we often all sit down and just blaze through sightreading it all together! Practise sessions usually get pretty chaotic (especially if coffee is involved!) but there's nothing quite like the feeling of being perfectly atuned to eachother creating something special together!
You both did great!! The dynamics of this piece work so well with the 4-handed arrangement. When I was younger I played Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca 4-handed at a recital with another student and it was really fun! (I was the bass part lol) Now YEARS later as an adult I learned the normal 2-handed version of the piece and I was surprised at how familiar it felt to play, even the main melody which I never played as a kid but it somehow clicked into place! I guess from hearing it so many times during practice haha. Would love to see you guys do more 4-handed pieces :)
This video made me rethink so much about how I play! It's amazing to see how skilled and high level Annique is, while also seeing how possible it is to come back to piano after a while like her sister
My apologies for sharing but my piano teacher just passed away. He was absolutely fenomenal, not only did I lose my teacher but I also lost a great music buddy, he was 74 I knew it was coming at some point, however I hoped it would still be a long time. Why do I comment here? We were planning to play a 4-hands piece by Mozart, sadly that won't happen. I'll miss him very much, he made a shit week and a great week better every time. Part of me doesn't want a new teacher but I know he would tell me to continue. ah.. Thanks for reading.
I really feel very sorry for your loss. I have a great bond with my teacher and that is exactly how I would feel losing him... I really hope you continue your piano lessons and you find a great teacher.. Don't lose hope, there will he better days!
I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. As a music student myself, I can empathize with you since I know how attached you can get to your teacher. I'm really sorry :(
I think there is always a deep emotional bond between music teacher and student. Intoxicated in the powerful emotions of the music itself it is almost impossible not to fall in love with your music teacher. If you play an instrument where they accompany you, those incredible powerful moments that you create with them live with you forever. Here's to all teachers of music - thanks for the joy you bring into our lives!
You managed to play reasonably well the whole piece in just one hour and 11 minutes! That for sure is no small achievement. Congratulations and, please, do more duos!!!
Next time, please try Rachmaninoff Italian polka for 4 hands which Rachmaninoff wrote for his wife. Your sister is so funny and fun to play with. My older brother and I both play piano but he never took me serious enough to play together! BTW. My brother has a PhD too and lives in a different state.
Annique, ich bin wirklich ein riesen Fan von dir geworden, deine Ausstrahlung und dein musikalisches Interesse, sind toll anzusehen! Grüsse aus Frankfurt
The one minute version wasn't so much cracking nuts as sedating them. Things did get much better, though. I would definitely watch these two again if/when Chantal returns.
It is to hard to practice together. In the past when I did piano duo, each of us practice our own part and didn't get to practice together until we got them down. Kudo to you both for doing this challenge. It was pretty creative and fun to watch :) Thank you!
You guys did a great job! If I don't practice for a couple of weeks I have difficulty. If not practicing for years, it would take me much longer than 1:10:01 to get with the programI Plus I wouldn't have been able to work that long with my sister without getting into fisticuffs - so Kudos to you both!👍😁
This piece got me into classical music as a child & so has a special place in my heart. Your sister did great, I really enjoyed the siblingness :D I would love to see you playing this together again after really practicing it fully - maybe a special performance of it this Christmas?
Haha, thank you :)! It was a lot of fun to seriously play some piano again after such a long long time. Surprisingly the result was not as worse as I expected 😂. Hope you had a good start into the next (school) year!! I Iike your videos btw :)
Congrats Annique and Chantal ! After just one hour, pretty good.. gives me the idea to try this with my sister, although I feel it will rather be a 1 week - 1 month - 1 year challenge ;-)
