    Been a Traktor user since 2010. Love the effects and remix decks. It took Serato awhile to catch up and surpass Traktor. I was so ready this year to finally purchase Serato, but with the Open DVS on TP3. I wouldnt have to switch and I could go to most any club and setup since most are already setup with Serato DVS mixers. Im happy

    I used to use Traktor only for a very long time. Then a few years ago I decided to switch to Serato and bought a pioneer controller. I kinda regret it now because I miss the features of Traktor. I like that in Traktor you can cut a BPM in half or double it to help you better blend with a track from a different genre. I think I might go back to Tracktor. any thoughts?

    I have been using Traktor since the first version came out Traktor Studio in 2000. I also used a lot their industry changing product Final Scratch in 2003. For me the Traktor is the only option as all other software feel like toys to me. Also if you like Traktor I strong recommend to stick to Traktor dedicted controllers (not getting Serato controllers and try to pair it with Traktor) otherwise there will be still issues.

    VDJ is my favorite. 2021 release can isolate vocals out of the track!
    I love the stability of it and how easy it is to adapt to anything you throw at it. Plug and play compatibility with any controller.
    But Traktor has one major advantage over everything else out there. Sound. Traktors sound is absolutely incredible so I use VDJ and Traktor. I’m hoping for smart crates and cleaner UI with Traktor. VDJ and Traktor are both underrated.

    The different EQ and Filter models do work with an interface or even your on board pc sound. This is easily testable by playing a song, engaging the eq or filter and then changing options in the settings. I checked this on a Traktor Audio 6 and a Behringer recording interface.

    Ive used both in the club, and I do like Serato. I personally prefer Traktor. It was the first software I learned so it's just second nature to me. I almost switched to serato right before 3 came out bc of the plug and play aspect but now that traktor can run on any soundcard i stuck with them and I'm happy with my decision. I always hear people say that Traktor is hard to play music in different tempos but i disagree. I fluctuate bpms and genres very smoothly throughout a set. Most DJs I know are a little apprehensive about mixing it up tho. I use the Traktor S8 with Reloop RP7000s so that does make it easier.

    Great video! I use Traktor! However, if I had it like that, I would have both! Since I mostly DJ House, the remix decks are a huge plus for me! If I had to mix manually using traktor's dvs, I would just mix by ear and do it like back in the day.

      @@PDot absolutely, for instance a few of my go to files when I'm playing are songs that used to be in many folders. After accumulation it was necessary to combine them into 1 folder, that one folder now contains about 4,000 songs. I have 4 folders like this. These are main folders used in clubs. Of course there are other folders but it was an annoyance to have to wait for each folders to have to go through this process Everytime when timing was key. • @MrNaoboy

    You also have visual mixing in TP3, right on top of the waveform you have an indicator telling you how far forward or backward you are in comparaison of the master track. It's not stacked but you can't say that there's no visual help in TP3. I find it even more accurate than in Serato

    • @PDot
      @PDot  6 років тому +1

      I agree the phase meter in TP works well, but only works if the beatgrids are correct, and in cases of tracks that have varying tempos it doesn't work.

    Thanks for this breakdown! This might be a lot to ask but how about comparing these two to DJing in Ableton since you made a video about using Ableton FX about a year ago. Not that familiar with Serato but I think one of the benefits you mentioned about Serato is similar to the warping feature in Ableton. Also, am curious to hear your opinion on Serato Chopped n Screwed Pitch shift vs Traktor key change vs Ableton pitch change (using the different options like Complex Pro or Beats) as I like remixing songs in different keys

  • @djalejandro312
    @djalejandro312 6 років тому +2

    For DVS users Traktor does have the better sound, but there is a trade-off IMO. Traktor has always been a lot more sensitive to the timecode tracking which can get annoying and nerve wrecking at a gig. Even with sub par signaling, Serato tends to be more reliable in live situations in my experience.

    • @djalejandro312
      @djalejandro312 6 років тому +2

      Also, Serato has way better timecode vinyl options if you are into that!

    • @djtheob01
      @djtheob01 3 роки тому

      The Traktor DVS Timecode frequency runs at 2,0khz - (2.5khz MK2) which has a far superior resolution that's great for slow scratching. The other advantage of Traktor's (high frequency) timecode vinyl is that you get (almost) NO Cue Drift.
      Unlike Serato's much lower (1khz) timecode frequency that can't seem to differentiate between it's own timecode signal and the low frequencies coming from the speakers. So within 30 seconds of loading a Cue Point the Serato playhead on the screen has moved way out of position!
      There is a trade off when using Traktor Pro 3 (DVS) ... IT'S SO HARD TO LOAD A TRACK TO A STOPPED TURNTABLE! (unless I lift up the tonearm (and even then, I still might have to roll off the bass EQ on the other decks) The other way is to Check the box that says "load to a playing deck" but that's a mistake waiting to happen. I guess the choice is between Serato's ''CUE DRIFT'' and Traktor's over sensitive volume threshold setting that prevents loading a track.

    You can kind of have stacked tracks in Traktor if you use decks A and C. 😂😂 But yeah, that’s an excellent feature as well as the elastic beat grids. Whenever I play some old funk or disco I just turn off sync anyway and play by ear.
    Traktor is great for techno and modern dance music.

    They should have never called it TP3, TP2.9 would have made more sense but then they couldn't have charged for it.
    They needed to call it TP3 for the revenue and to promote the new controllers.
    We are trying to get back to the music instead of the screen so it's always funny how people try to make the stacked displays so incredible.

    Thanks for the video bro, very informative, especially regarding the ability to plug into anything with an audio sound card which sounds promising and really justifies the 50 bucks. However, I will, if I may, make you a couple of recommendations out of perfectionism: make sure you thoroughly try stuff out before shooting the vid. I'm thinking about the reverse button, where you actually had to contradict yourself when you first thought it worked like in Serato when it actually didn't. Second of all, make sure you're 100% sure that what you say is actually true before saying it in the video: effects on the Z2 are both post- channel fader AND post-crossfader, which is one of the main reasons that make this mixer so awesome!! Apart from that, the rest was top notch, so don't think I'm hating, just giving you my 2 cents for improvement purposes.
    Big up.

    I’ve been on Traktor for years and love it. Except for the fact that I can’t get jog wheels to work properly with it. Aside from that, I always look at it as Serato is Mac, and Traktor is Windows. There is just way more customization with Traktor, but you have to make the time for it. And I’ve been comparing the sounds for years, and Traktor always just sounds better than Serato. There’s so much to compare between the two software, I don’t think a simple comment can do justice.

      The mapping possibilities with Traktor are definitely WAAAAY deeper, but not as intuitive.

    Serato just works better for me

    Been on Traktor for more than a decade but after their change in controller policy switched to Serato. My primary tool is controller hardware which i touch with my hands- not the software I see. The plastic NI Hardware was never my choice. Missed flexible grid and smart crates as well - and support and innovation management at NI were always/are still a catastrophy. Stems never made sense (to me) for only well known tracks („classics“) are recognized by the crowd when extracted parts of these are played. Any own interpretation can only be appreciated when the original is in awareness in public. But these classics will never be released in *.stem. Traktor updates remain „cosmetic“ - not „innovative“.

    Serato is Now charging for something Traktor always had called Serato play! So sad...

      But with Serato being a free software (unless you buy the plug-ins like Serato play) having the "practice mode", and Traktor being a paid software....it kind of evens out.

    Traktor pro 3: best algorithms - DJs that play 128 BPM.
    Serato Dj pro: easy library management - DJs that play everything but 128 BPM.

      Traktor does definitely make it a bit harder to mix different tempos but it is definitely possible!
