The post-COVID feeling was something that I felt strongly too. I came off the back of doing competition and kickstarting my training, but COVID took away not only the opportunities to do archery, but also stripped away the things that made me feel valuable as a person. It's taken years to bounce back, and that's still an ongoing process.

Jim Love your content, subscribed a long time ago😊 Thank you.
You Mentioned you were saved around Christmas Caught my attention as a parallel between you and the coming of Christ, Emmanuel = God with us.... By no way do I mean this disrespectfully so I'm humbly asking please hear me out. Truth is truth correct ??? Therefore I submit to you Biblically ignorant people believe it was Pontius Pilot the 5th governor, the Romans and the Jewish officials who put Jesus in the position to be crucified. Wrong!!!! When you wrap your head around this I pray that you like myself will see "why" you have been created, but definitely NOT for yourself, but for God.....😊
Example: The thousands of people in Hollywood that we've all been made aware of, with a stupid amount of money but yet committed suicide. Why? Because they're empty, they believed life was about themselves thair for Coming to the conclusion there wasn't meaning Is or any real reason for being here..... Rejecting all along the God that gave them life....))) Now what about all the people that Aren't publicly known? Over 130 people EVERY DAY COMMIT SUICIDE EXCLUDING Hollywood....
This Message is between me, you, God and whoever else God blesses with it.
The death of Christ who is God in Flesh was Predestined to occur between the Triune Godhead before the world was, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.... (Please be humble Jim and take the time to look up these verses..... )
Isaiah 53:10...... Before the foundation of the world and what He did by living a perfect seneless life, suffering dying on the cross and rising "Himself" from the dead is literal.....
      John 2:19-21.
The 1st death is the physical death which we have "all" earned, it's our wages....
Romans 3:23-24 against the Creator, The Holy Just God of All Creation. Colossions 1-15-17.
To sum it up, I was in pretty much the same boat as you and thought I was a good person. What I didn't understand is none are good! (Mark 10-18) We have "all" inherited the sin nature from Adam in the garden.
In Adam "ALL DIE"!!! 1st Corinthians 15:22 That's why The Pre Incarnated Christ who was called the word the Son "prior" to taking on Flesh
(John 1:1-14) To propitiate for our sin, to God the Father. Why?
Great Question😊 Because the new heaven and Earth cannot have sin in it. The only way we can live there is if we are sinless YET the sinlessness DOESN'T come from "our own Righteousness" WHY??? because WE HAVE NONE, WE ARE NOT RIGHTEOUS!!!
IT COMES FROM CHRIST AND CHRIST ALONES RIGHTEOUSNESS....🤗 Philippians 3:9.🤗
Ephesians 2:8-9.🤗 Something false religions and non Christian cults are all PATHETICALY GETTING WRONG!!! They believe and teach you have to earn it! 🙉 WRONG!!! IMPOSSIBLE!!!!🙈
JIM I'm very aware 98+ percent of the world hates this message....Could it be because it's true?JOHN 7:7.
Jesus's own words... Inter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction and "MANY are on it. Matthew 7:13-14. Jesus also says.... What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but in the end loses his own soul?
      Mark 8:34-38.
Jim I'm a man made from dirt with a 3 pound fallible brain Who got pulled out of the DARK and given New life freely by God's Amazing Grace new life through faith So how could I not want other people Who are weary and heavy Laden not to have rest? Matthew 11:28. God-bless you Jim.🙏
I do care about you deeply and pray that you read this and look up all the verses.... For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but in the end loses his own soul? Mark 8:34-38. A great start would be ask God if He is real to reveal Himself to you the way he Revealed himself through scripture.
      Google: Who is God? CARM.ORG
This is a awesome website, but always check it against scripture😊❤🙏
A great place to start reading is the 4th book of the New Testament, the book of John. It describes the deity of Christ ❤ Love you too much not to tell you the truth Jim.😊

Your video reminds me of 2 Quotes from the great Fred Bear. " we lose ourselves in the things we love,we find ourselves there too." And "Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow". We all appreciate what you do for us in the Traditional Archery world. But you gotta do whats best for you and your family. Shoot because it's fun because you like it. Shoot because it brings you outdoors with the sun on your face. And making memories with your family and friends. Thats what it's about. Thank you brother for all you do. Whatever decision you make if your smiling and happy at the end of its the right one.

If it's any help, I started and ran an archery club in The Bahamas, then messed up my shoulder.
Several MRI's and trips to the US later, I was booked in for rotator cuff surgery - my age meant there was only a 40% chance of it succeeding, and only a 10% chance of that.
Making the bulk of my income as a photographer, and the rest (and my sanity) from archery, this was not a good diagnosis. No picking up a camera, no picking up a bow.
Took 6 months of following every single instruction from my physio, but I was finally cleared to both shoot again, and shoot again. Taught me a lot about posture, and the correct use of muscles, but I made it to the other side.
I now shoot my bows pretty much exclusively for me. My photography, I shoot things I want to shoot, not 'everything'.
You got this. You were an inspiration when I started out. Reading this comments I'm not the only person you inspired.
Do what you gotta do, and never skip a recovery exercise.

I get all my mates to come and camp and join in too, so yknow, thats cool. Not serious or owt just a proper laugh, a few beers and bbq. Cheers for that though. Hope you feel better soon geezer, take it easy.

I'm sad to see you make this video, but I do understand your decision. You are one of my big three of archery UA-cam, others being Wolfie Hughes and Jeff Kavanaugh. You helped me on the path of traditional archery when there was very little of easy acces free knowledge on stick and string on the internet. To this day I urge my students to see your videos for good material on trad bow. Thanks to you I also started to make strings for my self and for my friends, so thank you for all the inspiration and awesome knowledge you have presented us over the years! I do hope to see you again on the internet, shoot straight!

I know what archery means to me…stick and string and a target and I’m happy. I find I have my enthusiasm sapped by people around me who sometimes make me wonder how they ever picked up a bow because their version or archery seems a very long way from mine.
Shoot with like minded people or shoot on your own. Avoid anyone that doesn’t share your joy. Take the time needed to heal.

    Hey mate,
Not sure if you’ll see this message amidst thousands of others.
    I love your genuine content.
Archery will always be apart of your life.
Seasons change as you know and so does the depth of one’s involvement in archery.
I know once you are centred, balanced and happy again we will hear from you once more.
At nearly 50 I’m just about to take the leap into turning my passion for archery into a side hustle with real meaning.
When I’m at work I can’t think of anything more than archery.
I hear you and I’m conscious of keeping the fire burning, not making it just a grind.
I wish you all the best with your recovery and know that life is opening up a new chapter for you as it is for me.
    I was lost too.
All I know is when I learned to calm my thoughts and breathe, stop putting pressure on myself and relax into me.
The answers I was looking so hard for came to me when I stopped searching.
    Your mate in Aus,

Hang in there Jim, I had a similar injury to my left shoulder. I couldn't even hold my bow up to try to draw. After 50 years of shooting right handed I tried to pull lefty. To my surprise I could without pain. Wow, a window of opportunity. I learned to shoot left handed and I actually shoot better than right. Somehow I didn't carry over old bad habits from my right hand . And now about 10 years later I have an expanded bow collection with many left handed bows. I got the fun back. I hope you do too.

Music was my biggest passion since I was 6 or 7 years old. Playing music for a living burned me out. Especially after doing it for 40 years. I'm well versed at a dozen musical instruments, yet I haven't had the desire to pick any of them up for 3 years now. So yeah, I get it. Archery is my new passion, thanks to you and a few others that have inspired me, although not as skilled as I am with music. But I'm getting better every weekend. I understand where you're coming from. After shooting for over 50 years, 30+ shooting an 85 lb longbow, I'm loosing my motivation to shoot. I've recovered from a rotator cuff tear in my right shoulder but that never held me back; my left shoulder got to the point it would just collapse. I've just recently switched from that heavy weight longbow to eastern recurves and I love them....much faster arrow speeds without the drastic ballistic arch. But any shoulder problems affect shooting and are really frustrating. Take it slow and easy and hopefully you'll get back to shooting more. I've loved your videos and found them to be very informative and realistic. Thank you!

These things happen with everything in life. Especially if there is money on the line or you are putting it out for the world to see. I loved fishing my whole life then i fished competitivly for a couple years, realized that it wasnt fun to me anymore it had became more about being in 1st place and money. So i quit fishing altogether for about 4 years, started back by panfishing with a cane pole like when i was a kid and had a blast. I dont go as much as i did years ago but make it a point to go for fun a few times a year with my children or friends.

Firstly wishing you a speedy recovery, or a restful one, whatever is better for a shoulder injury. Mostly just wanting to say, I've also taken a step back from archery. A few years ago shit happened in my personal life and i dropped out of 3D for nearly a year. Still went on with indoor, but that felt like a chore at times.
Anyway got back into 3D, and it felt like starting again, pretty much lost the progress I'd made before. I was getting fed up with it, because the only 3D I'm shooting is really competition shooting, and when you're bringing up the rear constantly, it kills the mojo a bit. This is where your videos come in. They helped me realise shooting isn't about a podium place. I've had a couple, not many 😅 but just getting out and shooting. Ok, I'm competitive, with myself, but still, i find the space to enjoy it. It's also kinda my therapy. It gets me off my couch, it gets me out of my flat. It gets me amongst friends, friends I've made through archery. And aye, you're videos have helped that. So i guess this is my thanks to you for you're angle on archery that struck a chord with me.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
One last thing, landscape kicks portrait's arse.

I still love archery however and shoot as often as I could. I love the solitude and the peace that it brings when I shoot bow and arrow. Don't let it go, but put it to rest for a while. Where your treasures are, there will your heart be also (Matt 6:21). Your passion never goes away. It only goes to sleep now and again. Take care.

When you get to a certain age, you re-evaluate your life. I think Covid has accelerated and magnified this phenomena for many people.
I am now at that stage.
It’s wrestling with the horrible feeling that you might have hit your peak , and nothing will excite or enthuse you quite as much ever again.
I have decided to get through this stage by pacing myself, and marching to my own drumbeat for a bit.
Be selfish for a while, you have earned it.

    @hermansmith6578 Рік тому

Hey mate, kind of not sorry to hear this because quite simply unlike when you thought the string business was going to have to close, with this you're in control.
It's always a positive when you have the space and time to reevaluate things knowing there isn't something that is going to pressure you into a decision.
A wonderful thing is to do something for others especially if it gives them joy and helps them on their journey, but you have to ensure you yourself are fulfilled and happily moving forward or standing where you want to be.
I think you have to do what you want to do and are happy doing and if that means you end up sitting in a gutter or on a throne in a palace, someone somewhere will always be able to learn something from it, just do it for you.

People tend to look backwards, but we all live forwards. You can step in the same river twice but the water's different. (That's enough of that.)
Two things: get a good sports physio, they can sort all sorts of physical stuff out. The other thing is recognising that the pandemic was a huge punctuation mark for everyone. We all lost two years, became more isolated, introspective and so on. You can see examples of this everywhere - not long covid but sort of post-covid recovery. I think the way you're feeling is normal mate! Live forwards, which might include recovering stuff you used to do, or not. It might be new stuff as well.

I was very passionate about archery for maybe 10 years . I wanted to make traditional bows and I made a few . I filled maybe ten binders full of printed photos and articles I found on the internet . That would make a pile three feet high .I went to 3D archery tournaments for years Then suddenly I had enough of all that . I was just retired and I choose to go back to my older passion of aviation before I was to old . Now I shoot my bows ( I have tens of them ) in my backyard and THat's enough for me . What's to say ? Well, I fell for the click bait, lol, but although the subject is overall disheartening, without clicking I would not have heard and would not be able to offer solace. It's a shame we have not met, I think we could have made some interesting videos, you are far ahead of me there, it certainly would have helped my channel lol! Injury is very depressing, anything that curtails day to day enjoyment of life is depressing, injury has ruined many of my career choices, not many people know I used to be an acrobat! Maybe you know of the story in one of Douglas Addams books, where one of the characters uses a device to mimic a bad leg or a bad arm to induce a sense of urgency, concentrating the mind and body to achieve what our normal comfortable day to day selves just don't bother doing...adversity encourages. Childhood pain is father to the man in pain, or maybe this is just a click bait comment, lol All the best.

I wish we could go to the Dr and look in the display case of new body parts. You could point out, I want this and that body part. Your not alone ,, when I'm injured I'm like a ugly bear in a bear trap.I love my Trad bows and like to shoot all the time. Sometimes you just need the rest and heal..

Hello unique Mr. Grizzly Jim, it's not very nice to hear that you're not doing so well and lack the spirit of archery. I myself was very inspired by you, among other things, and found exactly the magic of instinctive archery in your videos. The time at Merlin Archery and the hello internet videos were good and I was also very impressed by your future path with your company Grizzly Strings!!! I myself have 3 strings from your hand and a few shirts. Exactly the point you are missing right now was my construction site, too much work and the affiliation of our relaxed archery group to a club also brought more stress and responsibility. Since I am the founder of the group and therefore also the section leader in the club, I have more and more responsibility on my shoulders, so that I somehow missed the origin of my bow passion. I've now concentrated more on the more important things, built my own "illegal" 3D course with 12 targets next to the club premises, where I can go out into nature with my dogs at any time to my heart's content and just let a few arrows fly. True to our principle in archery, shoot and enjoy. Turn off your head, let some arrows fly, no matter if you always hit. Watch some old videos of archery's old Guys like Fred Bear, H. Hill, F. Asbell etc and feel the spirit. Mr. Caro Flannel Shirt, shoot straight and stay in your midst. You are a big one and find yourself again. Sometimes less is more, I had to learn that. Best regards from Germany, Thuringia. Sebastian Lehnert

Take time to heal, maybe go to someone who does sports injury and see what they can do. I know you love shooting as do i. Ps ordered loads of strings off you the past couple of months and they are great. Mark Raybould lower gornal

Stuck in a funk? Yeah feel ya. Injuries piled up. Yup. Covid fatigue sucked some life out of some joys in life. Ha ha we moan all alike. Low poundage bows, hey go stick bow, I remember you had a English longbow. Talk about low pressure, no one expects us shooting ELB. Make some vids of friends shooting and adventures with them. Take care as always.

But seriously, don't feel you have a commitment to one hobby. I've been in and out of plenty and always stop when I loose that love or it feels like a job.

Health care you have to wait years for is not great health care. I live in Canada and we have waiting lists that range up to 4 years.

You can divide archers by 2 categories. Those who do warmup before shooting and those who are going to start doing it. Which one are you?

And not to leave you just with a snark. Learn if you can find shock wave therapy in your area. You probably will need a prescription for(and that is a good thing because your injury might not be a fit for it) it but it saved my husband shooting very very quickly after physiotherapy failed.

      @sjankarcher yes, you’re right, that’s pretty snarky 🫤
In my 42 years of floating around space on this rock, I’ve been lucky enough to represent my country in three different sports over the years… you don’t really get to do that without learning the importance of warming up, so you tell me? 😅
