Jim Vance had a historical reputation of being a very caring and overprotective uncle to all his nieces and nephews. And its also suspected that "Cottontop" mounts may have been an albino. Just having blonde hair wouldnt have been enough to earn a nickname like that, seeing as how Hatfield's were decedent's of Netherlanders (who are commonly blue eyed and blond), so historians believe he may have been an albino w/ a fluff of white hair.
