That's a beautiful headstone in a beautiful spot. My Granny was born in 1900 and lived 100 years. All those changes in their world. Can you just imagine?! I'd love to hear what they thought of the differences in their childhood years and all the advances in everything by the 1970s when they passed. If you bring a pray bottle of water to squirter on the older headstones sometimes that helps bring out the letters. Just plain water.
I just love family history! I've not been down that way for decades. If I can find someone who can drive and has a desire to go, I'll be coming back that way again. Family from the area has long been gone, but that just means... nothing. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth in Spring. Many thanks, my brother.
I've not been down that way since the new road got built. When I was going down Island Creek way, it was very sad driving by there and seeing that home rot away. So much history has been lost, thanks to both of you for keeping it going! God Bless you and Heather, (Glen). WV.
Too bad that house couldn’t have been saved!!! Up here in Pa and eastern Ohio and northern WV I’ve seen alot of old log homes built back then still being used. I’ve seen some as far back as late 1790s 😎💪🇺🇸🙏 I love this old history
Vance, Hatfields, McCoys, Browns, and Brumfields and Thompsons all very very historic names in southern West Virginia. I’m from Lincoln County myself and I have family in the mountains and I believe I have lots of Hatfield relatives from the area of Logan. This place here. West Virginia. Is the most prominent history you could ever sit and read over. It needs much more light and respect
I greatly appreciate the fact you take your time to show us these places like Cap's home place and grave that most will never have the opportunity to go and visit . It really puts the old stories into a new prospective.
Im from Cincinnati, Ohio but have roots in this and the Monongahela areas. So many beautiful historic areas in West Virginia. Thank you for keeping the history alive!
We literally just got home today from visiting Kentucky from AL and did the Hatfield McCoy driving tour (not all the stops because we had small kids with us) I wish I had known where this was! Love your videos ❤
I just love your videos. I live in Detroit, MI and my family is from Canada, but I love seeing and hearing about your family heritage. It's so comforting for some reason :)
8:54 This looks an awful lot like a cockfighting property. I grew up next to one, and it had the roosters separated the same exact way. The dog is for protection of the livestock from predators. It looks like a Great Pyrenees or Akbash.
My goodness I might be related to you. I'm a decendant of the Hatfield clan. My great gramma told me in 1978 that she was a Hatfield decendant. She was in her 90's then. Her name was Lucy Hatfield. And I believe her. She was a sweet gramma. Bless her heart. She passed away shortly after our visit & our 5 generation picture with her.
❤❤❤ Good morning Leo and Heather!! God bless you both it does my heart good to know y'all helping to keep the history alive it's so sad the fued between the Hatfield and McCoy the good Lord knows I pray there's peace now idk love y'all I appreciate everything you guys do ❤❤❤
I was just struck with how beautiful and peaceful that cementary is. Cap marker is fabulous Such a pretty piece of land my god. What a nice place to rest. Thank you for the video. .
Nice video, guys. Thanks for all the errort ya'll put into these videos. It's a shame that we, people, can not respect other people's property the way it should be. I was raised, that you respected another person's property more than you would your own. If you hunt or fish on someone's place, with permission, leave it better than you found it. A few can spoil it for everyone. Wouldn't it be great to go back 100 years and get all the facts and be able to remove the doubt and conjecture. Again, guys, thanks for all that ya'll do bringing us these stories. God bless ya'll for what you do and stay safe out on your travels.
Thanks so much for this video tour, I enjoyed it. Such a mezmerizing story, of the Hatfields & McCoys feud. (What is up with all the roosters crowing throughout the valley? Is that normal??)
I visited many years ago when the house was still standing. There was a trailer next to it, which somebody lived in, but I could not find anyone around. But I did take several pictures of the house. Wish the house still stood.
Beautiful land where Cap's house once stood, unfortunate that the house was not preserved. It looks like the family takes pretty good care of the cemetery, Cap has a cool looking headstone 🪦 Why do you think that Cap and his father had that falling out? Were they too much alike? This was a very interesting video, thank you very much Leo and Heather. Have a great day. 😊
Heather, loved the colored photograph. Who owns the property today?. Every time you mention Devil 's final resting place, I can't help but remember the story of someone who visited the cemetery where he is buried and actually ran out it because it is haunted. Great video Leo and Heather.
Cap's gravestone is beautiful. Sad that others rest in unmarked graves their names known only to God. It's a shame that Cap's house is gone. A piece of history just gone. Very interesting tour. ❤
I recall an episode of Pawn Stars when this guy brought in what was supposedly Cap’s rifle. The provenance just wasn’t there. Dude was majorly disappointed.
Everytime I visit my families, and ancestors graves I put atleast a flower on it to let them know I was there : they aren't forgotten. I have a backpack I call my cemetery bag so I can clean the grave if needed, cut away brush from it etc
We stumbled onto this bridge after getting turned around looking for Hatfield Family Cemetery. Happened to see the brass plaque. We also saw the Forbidden Cemetery on the hill with all of the chickens lol. I can't remember if we saw a sign or if I had read it somewhere, but we knew you had to be family to go up there and we respect that. Question though, how do you prove to owners that you are a Hatfield/McCoy descendant? Do you carry a card or papers or what? Lol I am just wondering. How they know you aren't just pulling their leg.
Thank you for sharing this. I'm a descendant of the Hatfield's but not 100% sure where I'm placed. I was born Mary A. Hatfield of Anthony and Evelyn Hatfield. My dad is from Owensboro KY. My Grandfather was V.T. Hatfield and great grandfather was Payton Hatfield. VT was his name but the Army gave him the name Valentine because they didn't allow names that were initials only. If anyone would like to help place me in the family tree of who I descended from I'd appreciate it. ❤
My grandmother is a Cline. Perry is in my family tree. Cousin? I think? Anywho....she alwasy told us stories and I grew up knowing we were related and just thought it was hilarious to see them on Looney Tunes. There's a lot of Hatfields and McCoys that pop up on my dna matches every month. Despite the fued they married and intermingled even back then.
@thehillbillyfiles OK so Jim Vance's descendants? I know he's also kin to Hatfields I'm just asking if Jim comes in there somewhere? The reason I was asking about ownership of the cemetery is because I didn't understand why you would have to get permission to visit and in some cases like the McCoy's you have to prove that they are a descendant. I'm from Virginia and we have family that's on old mountain cemeteries and you have to cross through land owners to get to them and they don't really say anything about visiting but of course it's not the Hatfield and McCoy's either 😅 I'm sure that can draw a crowd.
human kind cant stop trashing GODs green earth or destroying private property I mean come on chipping away at history like that people would get mad if someone damaged there old home place

@@edwardstroko4665 we own a 1750s log cabin in VA. It houses our kitchen and a guest bedroom.

Some know me on sight. The rest I can simply tell them who I am, and who in their family would know me, if they want to check.

Theremay be graves under those daffadils. It was custom back then to permanently mark graves on homesteads
Please put names with pictures for us Thanks
Hi, how are you related to the Hatfields
That’s a lot of chickens . 🐐🐐🐐holy crap could they go any higher . Can you imagine hauling coffins up there ? ! I cannot !
I'm a long life family to you. Love always. Justine Myers my mother is Joy Myers. Her mother,Nadine ine May's. Fatger Robert May's. ❤
Rooster's doing their job too. lol 🌞
Fighting roosters at Caps.
Did you get into trouble for being on the bridge over the creek to Cap's old homesite?
No. lol We didn't know each other, but we knew of each other's family. We talked about half an hour.
@@thehillbillyfileshave you ever been to where the three McCoy boys are buried? Are there any pictures of their headstones? Love ALL of your videos!
Look at all those fighting roosters
Hatfield and McCoy needs to fire the feud back up and make some more history 😂.
Didn’t Cap pass in Baltimore?
Yes. At John Hopkins Hospital.
❤❤❤
Does the Hatfield family own that cemetery???
I think it might be Vance, but yes, still relatives.
@thehillbillyfiles OK so Jim Vance's descendants? I know he's also kin to Hatfields I'm just asking if Jim comes in there somewhere? Interesting history. PS that is one noisy rooster, lol

I'm sorry but all those roosters!
