1973 BMW R75/5 Restoration in 30 Minutes(BeeBuildUp)

- I have this 1973 BMW R75/5 project which is affectionately known in our family as the "Honey Bee" because she just hums beautifully when cruising. She has been in boxes and moved around for the better part of a decade so it was definitely overdue. This is a frame up restoration where I restored what I could, replaced what needed it, and upgraded for longevity(stainless fasteners). Here is a list of what happened off screen as this video is just assembly.
-Powder coated all the black frame/body parts
-Replaced rear wheel bearings
-Replaced steering bearings
-Rebuilt front forks
-Replaced rear swing arm bushings
-Scrubbed/polished all the cast aluminum
-Cleaned the wheel rims/spokes
-Rebuilt the Bing carbs
-Cleaned contacts on various switches
-Polished all the chrome
-Replaced the seat
-Replaced the rear shocks
-Resealed the fuel tank/recoated the rusty underside
-Replaced exhaust pipes
-Replaced all fluids
What Remains:
As I went to start her for the first time she turned without start. While chasing down a non spark condition I noticed one of the spark plugs are loose. It seems the threads have been compromised, so I will likely be sending the head out for rework. The plug was wet, so now I am just waiting on spark and compression. Then fire up and tune the carbs.

Beautiful work. Beautiful motorcycle. Back when these machines were simple and easily repaired and rebuilt at home.
Champion!!
Great video, I’m in the process and this video is a great reference. Thanks 😊
Appreciate it, be sure to look in the video description for some handy references as well.
Excellent video, many thanks!👍🏻
Glad you liked it!
Finish the project and let's see it run down the road. Love those old beemers.
Beautiful Result
I am impressed
You work fast, lol, nice video for us /5 owners
It's that video magic, there where actually a couple months of prep work to replace, refurbish, rebuild everything. I would say disassembly of the headlamp bucket was the most challenging!
i know i got involved with that myself , its not a really great design and anybody with the push key could drive away with ur bike lol
Thank you for this, have one too
Thank you for sharing
Awesome 🇺🇸
Put your play list up. Really liked one of the tunes.
I'm not sure of the artist and name, it's part of the included tracks with my editing software Movavi, if you give me the video time it played I might be able to trace something when I'm back at my computer
How do you seperate the headlight shell and lense?
Does it run?
It does! Had to work through some electrical issues, set timing, adjust carbs, adjust brakes, and re-thread one of the spark plug holes. Took it out for its first ride a few days ago and put about 70 miles in today, running well!
I just recently acquired two of these bikes and a side car. How hard was it to find parts.
Sidecar awesome! Still on the hunt for one of those. If you take a look in the video description I have listed my parts sources, there is quite a bit out there.
@@driventofailure if your interested in buying the side car or maybe one of the bikes I’m open
Intriguing, my project funds are running in to my Z3 at the moment and I'll be moving in a few months, I will definitely circle back around to it though 😊
I'm anxious to see it run. Finish the project and let's see it run down the road, please.
