  • In this video I build a tilting vise mount for my new vise. This allows for the vise to be positioned in a lot of different orientations, which provides more flexibility for work holding.
    This build was inspired by Jason from Fireball Tool who built a tilting vise mount for his vise. His build is here - • I Should Have Done Thi...

    Just when I thought that tube vise couldn't get any better you added this tilt base. Great addition and nice looking finish.

      Thank you. That tilting base has been so useful for holding items at different angles. You don't know what you are missing until you have something like that.

    Incredible job on the tilting vise mount and vise. I can see that tool being used everyday. Thanks for sharing.

      Yes, it will be used a lot. The small vise was just too small for some work holding

    We all have our vices and vises. Another great video of a very successful build. Inspiring to those of us that don’t have a Cincinnati shaper and a waterjet. It was great to see you incorporate the Hossfeld bender for the swivel base.

      Great insight Joseph. The clincher is you don't need that if you have skill and determination. This is how India is forging ahead, despite the serious exposure to harm for its workers.

    You call that a vice? This is a vice! Beautiful. It was good to see the vice press the oversize pin in. The press only got a little more - says a lot!

      Thank you. Yes it was sure tight. I think the hole from the drilling process was a bit tapered. I should have measured both ends of the hole before pressing it in. We live and learn.

      @@thehobbymachinistnz Sure, but then you wouldn't have learnt about the strength of the vice and the limits of the press. Invaluable but rarely mentioned knowledge.

    Whenever something is stuck, apply heat! Keep the pin cool and call it a "shrink fit"

      Thanks for watching. Hot bluing is quite simple. Here is a useful video that I found when I was researching bluing before I actually did it. There are other videos out there that show and explain the process as well.

    Good work. Not something I could do on my bench though, you can't weld to wood.

    I like it better than the fireball video.
    I know the mount pins are strong, but now the whole thing is only mounted on 2 pins, is that strong enough? I was thinking of double hinge on the front face but prob not much better.

    • @thehobbymachinistnz
      @thehobbymachinistnz  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I think it is strong enough. When the vise is in the normal position the plate it is mounted to is flat on the bench so there is plenty of support. I would not start bashing on the vise, or trying to bend large items when it is in the up position though.

    Sem contar que nunca haverá a necessidade de usar um torno nessa posição.
