Hello James, get an electrician to check if the door has any voltage, there might be an expose wire somewhere, that is dangerous. It’s common on new houses to have that problem it’s better to get it taken care of early
To add to this, if there is voltage then your metal doors need to be bonded to the rest of the house. That way the doors will be equal potential to the surrounding area. It can be dangerous so please have someone look into that soon
As an electrician, where that sliding door is, right underneath it a bunch of 5-6" wafer lights. I also know that if there recessed cans that's more room to push towards that door. Personally I give it a week. Keep checking if the door has that decent shock when touched. Then consider an professional to look into the problem.
It’s not an electrical connection to the door. It’s static caused by the new carpet. Happened at my new house for a few months too. It has a high enough dielectric field that it can even work through rubber shoes. If it was an electrical wire, it wouldn’t just spark, it would shock you. Typically static discharge or a couple thousand volts. Hence why you can hear it.
@@zfpv7211 exactly he might be wearing socks and there's carpet when they rub against each other it might cause static
Might be able to ground it?
My mouth literally dropped when you showed the mountains framed in the garage windows. That is beautiful and so perfectly lined up.
my mouth dropped when he said he is making the whole living room wall RED BRICK!!!!😦
@@olebluegen2 for real! The one wall where the Ferrari is going yeah sure but not by the fireplace!!
To stop the shocks from those door handles you should add rubber handles or spray it with some rubber coating. Hope this helps 🙂
James, just a friendly caution, I cook on a stove often and whenever I cook something that has grease or fat that splatters at high heat, it hits the tile which in my house is glossed over but it might get absorbed by the brick and stain if you aren’t careful. Just a thought.
100% this, grease and smell will stain and soak into the brick. A clear polyurethane sealant should be enough though.
You're dead right about this,, the brick has to be sealed against grease and moisture, but with a mat finish. Also, if you don't do this, you can actually end up with little brick dust particles that would make very short work of that nice granite top.
The best solution would be a glass backing over the red brick. In fact if you google that you get images of red brick kitchens with glass covered red brick.
Yup, there' a reason they use tile, quartz and other easily cleanable surfaces in kitchens. Brick is a terrible idea for a kitchen for all the reasons people have listed here.
I was thinking the same thing
Those doors giving you chocks could be really dangerous, for some reason mains voltage may be getting into them. You should get an electrician to check the grounding and wiring around the doors.
Gy
This👆
Thought the same thing
Couldn’t have said it any better
Imagine if there was a guy he paid millions to build his house and people that built the house that he could ask these questions to as to why he is getting shocked. LOL
For the door that is holding electrical shocks to you could have a loose fuse or flex leaning against the door so I’d make sure to check it out Incase any problems happen aka water spill against the door and causes a possible electrical issue, I hope this helps James ❤❤
Definitely a fuse
Your house project is coming along nicely, and it has been a pleasure to watch its progress.
We designed and built a house in NY in 1991. We still have that place but also have a place in TX.
The work and research involved in designing and building a home is immense.
A few quick recommendations...
1. Yes, put in a larger range hood. Cooking vaporizes oil (aerosols) and it will get everywhere. You want a good rangehood to take out as much of that as possible.
2. I don't recommend going with red brick on the backsplash. It will be a nightmare to clean. Typical red brick is just too coarse and oil and other dirt will get stuck in the small crevices...and the mortar gaps in between...ugh! This is not a problem for exterior brick where a good rain or a hose down with a pressure washer is enough to clean it...not an option for interior.
3. If you REALLY want to go with brick, consider dense oven baked or fire brick (used to line interiors of furnaces). These are dense bricks and have a fine/smooth appearance. At least the front surface area will be much easier to clean and maintain. You still have to worry about the mortar...so consider flush mortar lines (though that takes away from the typical brick appearance).
4. Think about a larger (professional) range or rangetop...Viking or Wolf. I recommend, if you can still find them, (commercial) open burner style instead of sealed burners. I think BlueStar still makes them, but you might be able to find them in the Viking Professional range. I'm not sure if you have a 30-inch or a 36-inch, but I recommend a minimum 36 and you might even be able to fit in a 48-inch cooktop.
5. Consider a built-in fridge...SubZero. You really need a SubZero. They come with dual compressors (one for the fridge and one for the freezer) and are extremely reliable and long lasting...and they look really good!
6. Consider a Miele dishwasher (if you don't already have one).
7. Consider a double oven and a separate built-in microwave. Wolf is a good brand.
Yes, my recommendations will likely mean a total redesign of the kitchen, but you have a spectacular house. You really should also have top of the line appliances and convenience in the kitchen to match it.
The shock from the metal window/door frame is because your carpets (which are likely a plastic-based material like polyester) build up static really easily, and if you're wearing things like socks it'll only build up more/faster, so just the act of walking up to the window/door is going to build up charge that discharges when you touch the metal, hence the shock.
You could maybe look into some sort of non-conductive coating like a clear plastic film (imagine PPF but much thinner) or clear varnish. Metal fabricators may have some better solutions.
Strad has to see this, i don’t even know how he could fix that unless he has a grounding pole to touch before he opens the door
Just throwing it out there...perhaps replace the metal handles with some nice wooden handles (maybe mahogany or other wood) so it will eliminate the electric discharge Strad is creating from walking on his carpets and then touching the metal doors.
He could also change the carpets…
Also the electric shocks are bigger when the air is dry. Now that room isn’t closed from the garage (big opening at the stairs). I assume the air in the garage is much colder, and when heated up in the room next to it, the heated air would get dryer (basic physics). So putting a door between the upstairs room and the garage, would make the air less dry and thus he would get less shocked. Still shocked, but less.
He could also wait till summer to check that theory…
It also could be a lack of humidity in the house, it's very cold and the heat takes the humidity of the house. A humidifier adds moisture eliminating the shock. My house did the same thing before I added one. He's not standing on carpet.
@@poldelepel there is no carpet in that room
Not sure if you'll see this but I have an idea for the giant side wall in your garage. You should find a really good spray paint artist and have them study your youtube channel, then make a giant mural for that wall. I think it would turn out amazing and add some color to the room to complement your crazy-colored cars!
I was thinking the same thing
this is a very good suggestion, it would complement the "industrial feel" he loves so much too

Natural, there’s a lot of math involved in forex trading,
but this is often presented in forms of daunting technical charts, indicators, patterns.
For the static issue, humidifiers throughout the house will help eliminate static, like a ton. I also use static spray on my furniture, carpets and in my car to prevent it. It may also be a wire touching the metal somewhere
I think the red brick for the backsplash maybe a bad idea... If anything splashes onto them and it gets dirty, it's gonna be a NIGHTMARE to clean
Also one of the most unsanitary surfaces you could chose and could potentially invite bacterial growth where you cook food.
remember. he doesnt cook
@@pekonipappa9292 and he literally says that he does what he wants.
the brick can probably be sealed with a spray to keep it from absorbing any moisture. assuming they make one that's designed for interior. I'm a concrete/brick contractor but can say I've never done it for someone's interior. should look good though!
Say no too red brick Stradman,, o wait there is no cooking here unless Mom visits 😂
Since your getting a new hood, return that small cooktop and get a 48” or 60” wolf or Viking. You can get a grill and griddle inserts. You won’t regret it and they will “scale” with the house better. You also might want to go for a SubZero fridge. Food will keep better and your house deserves it
And then much like the guys that created basketball… also order a giant piece of marble to cover the range to stack pizza boxes… you know, since he doesn’t cook. 🤪😂
I said the same, that fridge looks incredibly cheap and basic in this house… overall the kitchen doesn’t fit the scope of this house what so ever
Really hope he takes this advice. Those kitchen appliances are so cheap and out of place.
@@K2489S a house this beautiful and architecturally different needs a dramatically better kitchen
Couldn’t agree more
Those shocks you experienced from the door all seemed pretty equal, giving me the idea that there is an exposed wire near the doors inside the wall. You don’t have carpet so for you to build up that much friction, especially with shoes on, is virtually impossible. Get your subcontractor out there on those doors.
talking about not giving up, he's the definition of it. from living in your Audi TT, now to living in a mansion. Love your stuff man!

For the garage floor do an epoxy coat with white and brick red color swirled together, I’ve seen it done and looks crazy
Id say do Polished WHITE concrete in the Batcave and all the walls white as well. As for the garage id say just plain polished concrete would look amazing. Also call an electrician about the door to check for voltage. Congrats on the girl, house, and all of your success over the last couple years!
Hopefully with a house like this, you're using a decorator, a good decorator will take your (taste/ideas) and use their trained skills to really make you happy. I used a decorator in my last home and 2yrs later I'm still amazed at how great my house looks and not just it's sheer size.
Nah homie you got played. You just payed someone to spend your money for you it’s not hard to come up with your own interior concept ideas and have them modeled by a builder in cad.
i doubt it. cause it doesnt seem like he is using an interior decorator for the installs. that ted brick is terrible
@@sedanzzz_guy2488, you probably live in your parents house, what you know about living in million dollar home. You're worrying about how much stuff cost because you're broke, that's what broke people do. My house actually cost more than his so paying someone 30K to make my mansion look amazing is nothing. Something else you're broke ass don't know about, decorators get discounts on stuff they buy because they buy so much so in the end I probably saved money using one. Stay in your lane.
Im gonna get one when I build my dream home!

The doors might need grounding/earthing? You have a unique style and you own it. Have you ever thought about buying back the TT or the Lotus as thats where it really started?
The TT should really be the car going on the wall.
Humidity. It’s dry inside when cold outside. Get a humidifier
Yeah it needs to be grounded

Can't wait to see house 2.0 with a widebody 🤯
This deserves more likes
Your ideas for the house isn't something that I would do and that's exactly why I like it. Everyone does the exact same style of everything these days and no one actually expresses themselves.
I agree, too much of home design these days is about maximizing the desirability of the home down the road for resale rather than maximizing the fit for your own personality and life.
Exactly - I was thinking 'red brick with that blue behind the breakfast bar?!' - but then Stradman qualified it with his out there taste in cars. So makes perfect sense. :)
I agree. A Ferrari on your wall? But no one deserves this more than him.
Yeah and didn’t see it in the garage
A normal single guy would have been happy with what he had..
Amazing the things guys do when there is a woman around - just saying.
I totally enjoy the idea 💡 of the red brick wall floor to celling. I would love to see that! Also I don’t think you put enough of a second/connection spot in the front of your driveway. The corner is tight for a RV/Boat without messing up landscaping
I totally the idea of the red brick wall floor to ceiling I would love to see that also I don’t think you put enough of a second conection sport in the front of your driveway the corner is for a RV/Boat without messing up landscaping
For the light switch problem, if you get Lutron smart switches, you can have all them turn on at once with a remote and install the remote into the wall and you can install the remotes wherever you want
For the static shock on your doors, you can try a humidifier to bring moisture into the air because static shocks are more frequent in dryer air than in moist air. There's also static wrist bands you can get that should help. Also, if your socks are wool or if you're wearing anything wool, that will increase your charge and therefore increase your chance of getting shocked. So wearing cotton socks can help you reduce the chance as well. Your shoes could also be a contributing factor as well. If you have rubber sole shoes, that could help reduce the chances of a shock. Also, wearing polyester clothing will help reduce the chances. Layering clothing will increase the chances.
This one is probably going to be the easiest but also not necessarily a permanent fix. Try using a coin to touch the metal with first. It should help diffuse the charge you've built up and get rid of the intense shock. It should get rid of the shock altogether, but it's not something I've tried as i don't have doors like your yours, and it's just something that helps me in the winter here in Tennessee when i get out of my car and go to close the door. It helps prevent me getting shocked. So it should work, but only way to really know is to try. Hopefully any of these help you.
Love your videos btw and my day is instantly better when i get the notification of a new one :)
You should add a 6 burner stove too. Every high end home like yours has 6 not 4. Plus it will keep it proportional to the larger hood. The blue island looks a bit cheap or out of place too. The rest looks insanely nice and cool though! Appreciate the house updates here and there mixed with car stuff
ya i am down with all of it but once that red brick goes on that blue face on the island is going to clash even harder than it already does... End of day i respect strad for it approach that he does what he likes, but i know he will like things to look better than he can imagine also!

@@johnoporto4636 Nope, I sure don't.
@TheStradman You shouldn’t put red brick everywhere inside the house because then if you have so much red brick and dark grey it’s going to make the house feel small. I recommend making some accent walls and painting/keeping the house with its light colors. If you decide to paint it I recommend a fossil white looking paint or a warm white. But the house looks great an I agree with the idea of having red brick where the Ferrari would be in the wall that would look sick.
Damm that garage is goint to look so cool with that red brig wall. I think that some semi dark wood on the other 2 walls could look awesome, and with those mountains in the background in the windows, it would be sutch a killer view.
For the shock doors. You can ground them. Or the cheap way, touch the door with your foot or knee first then open it. Or the expensive way. Just make them automatic. Hope that helps
Super stoked to see everything you've accomplished! You got that dawg in you, an inspiration.

The driveway looks cool!
of the options for the garage floor, the one you missed is to simply do epoxy floors. when you add the chips and stuff you can even you can choose the colors. so maybe something like a grey base, with black and red chips to match the brick. and getting all those light switches on one isn't that difficult. replace the switches themselves with Lutron Caseta ones. then you can use an app on your phone to turn them on all at once. automate them to motion sensors, etc. you could even add a second switch that controls them all at once. I'm honestly surprised with all that went into the house, that there's not much proper smart home stuff.
As a professional painter I can tell you epoxy floors fail. The best bet would be polished concrete unless you want to get fancy then go with an industrial tile.
@thestradman Congrats man! Been following you since your Audi TT days! You've followed your dreams and accomplished so much! You Rock!!!
Hey Strad - been watching you for a long time. I love your content. I'm very happy for you doing what makes you happy.
Two tips based off this video.
1. Static Electricity - put a cupful of liquid fabric softener in a spray bottle full of water. Shake thoroughly and spray the carpet. FYi - The carpet doesn't need to be soaking wet. When you start getting shocked again, spray some more. Should last around 1-2 months (depending on humidity levels).
2. To many light switches - change them out to WiFi switches. You can then create groups to control multiple switches through Alexa ("Alexa - turn on main garage"). Bada bing bada boom!
I would love to swing by and meet you sometime. My ride is a Ducati 1199 Panigale S (Black with carbon fiber and blue chrome accents). I would love to race it against any car of your choice - just for fun if course!
Keep up the great work!

I feel like this is the sort of thing almost all first time home builders go through where they want to reno immediately because once you actually are in the space it is so much easier to see the aesthetic flaws than it ever was in plans and renders. Awesome! Can't wait for the results!
The house looks amazing. You should build a hanging walkway from the mezzanine up to the roof in the garage so you can look down on your cars from above.
If you make the extractor fan bigger then you need to get a bigger stove top with 6 or 8 burners.
Super happy for you James!
You and Sophia seem super happy. Your car game top knotch. The dream house.
Everything man, you're crushing it. Keep going bro, you've got my support through it all!!!
I have a question, anyone knows if Sophia is the Snapchat girl or some other one, I am watching Strad for so long and when i saw Sophia I was very confused xd.
Strad You should get some sort of car mural painted on the blank wall in the main Garage. You have the natural mountains picture framed by the windows on the one side. Now Red brick on back wall so for last wall go all out with a painted mural
the door/window looking out into the garage isn't grounded properly which is why you get a shock touching it. while that isn't a massive issue, it can mean differential breakers or even regular magnetic breakers can switch off due to a current being drawn. to solve that, i think it best to contact an electrician
James... another great video. While I'll be the first to admit that I am not usually much interested in home reno videos, I always enjoy your updates, so please keep them coming. Next, while I may not always agree with your design decisions, NO ONE gets to make them but you, so do what you want. That being said, as you're going to install the Ferrari as if it were a piece of art (which it very much is), framing it properly is absolutely critical to achieving the impact you're hoping for. To that end, I suggest doing some renderings *before* the final mounting. The brick may be cool, but it creates a very busy backdrop (multiple shades of red as well as a complex pattern of white created by the grout lines). At the risk of overstepping, might I suggest that you place a dark rectangle - perhaps made to look like the tarmac of a race track - behind the car? I think it would look great against the brick, would suit the subject perfectly, and offer a great high contrast backdrop for whatever color you eventually choose for the Ferrari itself. Looking forward to seeing whatever you end up choosing... thanks again for bringing us all along for the ride!

for the garage to help against the static shock you need a humidifier ( not a dehumidifier ) the Air is to dry that's why it happens

Congrats Man, everything is wicked!
James you really aren’t goona want red brick as a backsplash. It would look nice for sure however the brick is porous and food splashing on it will be basically impossible to clean off.
For the *Shock* youre getting when you touch the doors, you might try a humidifier in that room. My parents have a house in Arizona, the floor is wood but just walking around you get a static shock on EVERYTHING, soon as they put a humidifier in it went away for the most part. Might be worth a try.
btw, I can literally hear through my headphones when you get shocked lol, so its coming through the mic its that bad.
I absolutely love the red brick background idea for the 430 challenge and the fireplace, but I’m not sure about the kitchen part.

Second driveway looks like a sharp turn off of the main driveway, probably need to get some more concrete to make it an easier turn so you can maneuver a motor home or a boat through that. Great house though, loving these videos of it!
JAMES YOU SHOULD DO AN EPOXY FLOOR FOR THE GARAGE it would look sooooooo cool in like a Rosa acantes pink and white with that little glitter slickly going throughout
Get a Whole Home Humidifier. You may only need to run it in the winter as it gets really dry in our area in the winter, that whould reduce the static electricity dramatically. I figure you are probably at 20-25% at night (even less as Jan/Feb come along), getting it up to at least 40-45% will drastically reduce the static. Also will help preserve any natural finishes, like wood flooring and furniture. It will keep it flooring from contracting and showing gaps. It will also help with wood trim and doors and make the wood and finish last longer. Also will help keep any glues plyable (like the glue that you adhere the floors with). It will also help your skin.
For those echoes, you need furniture, rugs and acoustic panels (art) all over the house. That will all help dramatically - especially the acoustic panels (disguised as art) .
The humidity level is probably low by those doors in that part of your house. I don't know how big of an area that is, but since you're building your office below that area you might be able to get an HVAC guy to see about pumping some humidity through the system in that area. This becomes worse in the winter as the heat is run more and dries out the air, creating more static electricity.
Hey James, EXTREMELY happy for you. Will you please do a complete house tour when everything is done with the furniture ?
that will be long time LOL.
Loving the house build, keep it going!
