Also worth checking out (and distributed in the US, so relatively easy to get) are his book with Fantagraphics, and multiple titles from Italian publisher Hollow Press. He also did the cover art for the Flying Lotus album "You're Dead!"
I have a crazy Kago Shintaro manga that seems to be about a war that uses giant women as weapons that fire giant turds. It’s in Japanese so it’s hard to say. It’s gory and disgusting, but I love it. He also made/makes these awful adorable little toys that pop up on eBay every once in a while, little mutilated torsos and run-over cats, things like that. The genre isn’t exactly porn, it’s considered Ero Guro (erotic gore) which is more of an art tradition with a long history. There is an absolutely horrifying manga anthology called Hell Season featuring Kago and others that anyone interested should check out (it’s available free online), but be warned, it’s not for the faint of heart. Actually, don’t check it out, it’s fucked up...
Definitely gonna pick this up! I've been wanting to check out Mr. Arashi's Amazing Freak Show but it seems to be out of print for now. Junji Ito's become a big favourite of mine over the past few years and I really want to explore this grotesque area of manga more.
Great video, guys! Love Kago's work! Also, I picked up Suehiro Maruo's book 'Lunatic Lovers' in Japan and that thing blew my mind. Definitely worth checking out...
I got a lot of shintago kago material printed by spanish publishers. He had a really amazing experimental material. I found funny that his last name means shitting in spanish in a lot of countries. He, Usamaru Furuya, Suehiro Maruo, Toshio Maeda and Jun Hayami are kinda the best in the eroguro tab.
Love the channel for videos like this one. I bought and still own those three volumes - Comics Underground Japa, Sake Jock, and the other one (Street Comics Japan?). They were very inspiring to me, especially Sake Jock I'm now curious for Super Dimensional Love Gun
I first came across Kago with the two covers he did for the Japanese grindcore band Sete Star Sept, easily two of the most unique looking album covers in my collection. I had no idea he did manga, I thought he was just an illustrator.
shintaro kago is amazing. he's able to play around with the form of comics so much while exploring these totally out there ideas of sexuality and awareness of the physical form. truly one of the few artists to touch upon how strange all of our bodily functions are. hope more of his work officially comes to the west
This looks awesome! Anyone remembers the movies of David Cronenberg like crash, existenz or naked lunch? Somehow that is what this somehow reminds me of.
One of my favorite mangaka's, his style is like no other. He started to draw at a young age, and he started to draw first on the toilet walls, especially the school toilets he uses to attend.
I dig the art style, but the subject matter is way to perverse for my taste. I just don't like having these types of thoughts in my head. But kudos for sharing this unique work!
Love Kago. Fakku actually only publishes porn ahah, have either of you read Legend of the Overfiend by Toshio Maeda? Would be interested to see what you guys think

While American comics seem mostly about hormones, these comics seem more about nerve endings.

Our home grown local bookstore carries this. I’m with Ed, think I need to scoop this up. Thanks for the spotlight Jim.

He has a new book out: www.comicon.com/2020/01/15/read-the-worlds-weirdest-fairy-tale-kago-shintaros-the-princess-of-the-never-ending-castle/

Shintaro Kago is master at deconstruction... quite literally and graphically lol

Just ordered it, thanks for the recommendation!

Sort of a silly/twisted Junji Ito. I like that esoteric style. Open that 3rd eye, bwah!
Fakku! Is actually a pretty well known hentai publisher.
...don't ask me how i know that.
Been on a Junji Ito kick lately, I'll have to check these out
Those 3 anthologies are must haves
Fantagraphics put out Kago's book Dementia 21
plz show the Sake Jock sometime... the cheapest online I could find was $68 -yikes!!
Check out Laughing Vampire by Maruo, so good!!!
wow that's neat

The anime/hentai adaptation is even better. The subs are a glory to behold.
