We tested the game for the first time, and you know what? We had a blast. BUT... in our opinion the only way to go with Ravenfeast is to use Geld, Rune Cards and a scenario (other than "Fight for Honor- that one tends to end up with just two shied walls crushing into one antother). We were thinking that it is going to be too simple, but once you need to make decisions - should I form a shield wall, because maybe the enemy won't want to go through me, and just evade my units to get to the longboat, and moving into shieldwall will just slow me down? Should I use rerolls in combat to save a unit, or save it for when I will roll for initiative, because I need to get to that longboat before they can cut me off, move at half speed and still be able to shoot with my archers, or move to the rear of the enemy shieldwall to deny them their +2 bonus to armor... things like that. It's awesome if you are looking for quick way to play scenarios.
Experienced wargamer here, I like the game a lot for story driven scenarios!
Same here. I think they missed a lot of nuance of the mechanics. You can replicate a lot of the historical tactics. them saying the mechanics are not historical shows they don’t know how dark ages battles were fought. Especially shield walls.
@@dalehurtt4586 Not to pick at these guys, but I have to wonder if they actually played the game? Honestly it's very much like GW's LOTR or even Age of Sigmar. It's very similar to these games and they were a lot of fun to me.
I would say that yeah the lower level units are easily outmatched by leaders, but it encourages you to use shield walls. I think this game is maybe a bit basic, but the mechanics are only limited by your imagination. I like writing my own scenarios for the game and sometimes having a modifier or two that keeps if fresh.
Yes! This game is so simple it is SO easy to fiddle with the game to your liking.
This is a refreshing game. Simple yet fun. So easy for YOU, the gamer, to fiddle with. And, the game is going to be added to per the designers.
Cool vid.
Mechanics are much better than you describe, lower rated units are cheaper therefore you have more of them and all damage is applied at the end of a round which means all those cheap units get to strike even when killed (so its like having them in a group) and there are flanking rules which provide an advantage....you can't have your cheap units picking off the enemy, so yea they will probably miss a lot when attacking elite units...not really sure what more you want.... appreciate your feedback though even if I completely disagree with that one
Yo. How y'all? New game I never heard of I see.
check Little Wars TV great content!
@@ProductionsDiratia Ok
And I am just in the process of building two warbands to Ravenfeast... sad xD
Well, the miniatures can be used in many games :D
@@ProductionsDiratia yea that's true. They were intended for Saga, but I was looking for Dark Age systems with lower mini counts to play something before I finish the Saga warbands.
@@michamalinowski8015 Yes we made an error, the video will be cropped by tomorrow and we mentioned it in the description
@@michamalinowski8015 play the game, decide for yourself if you enjoy it. If you dont there are other games true. It is a free game though. Make house rules you and yours can follow to make it more interesting as needed.
Whilst I recognise your review covered as much of the overall elements of any wargame, I found you had forgotten the two primary fundamentals of it's design, one, it is free! and two , it is aimed almost exclusively at new or very inexperienced table top gamers, which any experienced wargamer could use with little planning and effort to help introduce those groups! So, although you rated those categories highly, the low scoring categories were really irrelevant due to the rules fundamental design parameters! I really don't think that your review was of any more helpful than that had already been covered by the Little Wars TV introduction, considering those who have yet to be introduced to table top wargaming would quite probably not even give your posting a second look on YT!
