🚨 YO! If you're installing this oven, I highly recommend a ventilation system. Sometimes my oven isn't able to stay at 350° for lack of good ventilation. I currently use a usb fan to blow on it. If I had to do it again, I would try and make something that vents directly to the outdoors, instead of the hole on the side. Or install a computer fan behind the oven.
Following the example of Wandering Woods, I installed a Camp Chef Outdoor oven in my camper van. I made a video to describe its major features and provide pointers on installation. You can get detailed information on how to install this oven from the original blog post on www.wanderingwoods.org/blog/2...
I recommend a camper oven for anyone who appreciates:
• Eating frozen food
• Thoroughly warmed sandwiches
• Meal Prepping
Those bullet points are mainly how I use my oven. For instance, when I’m tired and only want to hang-out, I’ll turn on the oven and defrost a stouffer’s frozen lasagna. Another advantage of the oven is that it allows you to meal prep faster, I'm able to bake potatoes and fry steak simultaneously.
The Camp Chef isn’t the largest oven, but is certainly an upgrade from a 2 burner stovetop. At $250 its more affordable than the cheapest Dometic cooktop alternative($450.) I recommend this product whole-heartedly, though I warn you that you will need to do extra planning to fit the oven safely into your kitchen.
My man has papers hanging right behind the range lol
The fact that you included measurements is awesome.
Yep and it made me realize a 12 inch frozen pizza won't fit in it either. Bummer
Oh plus for cleaning your pans no one ever told me for decades but parchment paper is your best friend you put it right on the pan and then you just take it
Or you can use aluminum foil. For very stubborn dirty dishes diswashing tablets used to soaking is good too.
Thank you so much for this video, I have planning to get this for my build in the near future. I plan to have an opening to keep the handles accessible so I can bring it outside if I want. I live in FL so any heat I can keep outside while keeping my cool air in is win.
Years ago I had a 1970's little truck Camper - and it had the neatest little Oven which was also a heater (oven with a fan) lived in it for years!
I like your presentation. Everything I need to know and non of the pretentious stuff
I’m definitely excited to add this to my build. Thank you so much for sharing.
👌👍THANK YOU just what I've have been looking for most ALL folks are looking for AND can not find👍
Thank you so much. My husband and I are "Newbies" at this living in an RV. We have about 7x26 feet space to live in. If a few things were fixed like hot water heater, and we had internet and TV. I think I could get comfy. I never even knew you could get an oven like that. We'll have to save for it, but it would definitely make life better since my husband and I love homemade bread. Thanks again and GOD bless you and yours 😊
This was a great video on the camp chef, thank you
Excellent review and video, this was pretty helpful - thx!
Thank so much. I have this oven stove and have been using in my full time van life in a manner I’m not very proud of. Nor do I think it’s all that safe. This cabinet plan is perfect!!!! Now I just need to find someone to build it for me🌞 i tried several times and just ended up waisting time and material. I use the stove a lot and the few times I had technical questions the customer service was amazing. Thanks again for great content.
....don't hate me....doing this with love in my heart to help.... Public schools suck. Intentionally. May I help?
"waist" (between ribs & hips, belt line), or
"waste" - trash, loss or misuse, or wasted - lost (time, as in your case, or financially), or drunk, trashed.
Glad you have this it looks great
Great video, very helpful!
Thank you😀
Nice work with the insulation & installation
This is perfect for my astro van. Great video
My husband and I are trying to make a final decision on an oven for our short bus build and this video was so detailed and helpful! Thank you !
did you end up using the same oven? I am trying to decide what to put inside my mobile tiny house build
@@nthorp216 we did end up buying the same one ! Unfortunately we had to take a break from being on the road so we haven’t used it a ton .... overall it’s great for stove top cooking but have only used the oven a few times and it’s hard to temperature regular with the oven portion!
Thank you, man!! Very informative!
Dope video man. Very necessary content
Thinking of putting this in my big truck thank you it’s just what I was looking for I’ve gone through 3 air fryers 😂 we cook in here a lot😂
I have read other reviews that state that the temperature at the top of the oven is way below that at the bottom. Especially when a tray is in the bottom position.
Perfect information
Wow pink stuff an silver stuff so much information
Great review, thank you! I almost went with a $1300 stove oven that involved $99 delivery
nice , i want one
This was super helpful. My boyfriend and I are in the middle of installing our camp chef into our sprinter and now we have a clear idea of exactly what we need to do. Thank you for your help!
Per their instruction manual and website "never use this appliance in an enclosed space, camper, tent, car, or home..." it is a carbon monoxide hazard as well. It can kill you. Not the same as a regular camper propane stove. They are designed for use in a camper.
This was useful
I just purchased one of these for $45! Definitely adding it to my build!
Woe
whoah where did you find it so cheap?
@@nthorp216 Facebook marketplace. I still got it. Haven't built a van yet. Lol
Thank you I was want to know the measurements and how it hooked up and I do need to still know how much propane is being used
I have been looking at camp ovens and Air fryers
This is what I need but I worry about efficiency of propane. The van I want to do assuming funds ever allow, is a Astro so it's the right size. I only plan to use it as a everyday/trip van so having a way to cook is a must. I kind of know where I'd place it too just have stuff to work around.
Depends on when you're using it.
Propane is incredibly efficient in the winter when you need the heat. In the Summer on the other hand....
I'm in the process of planning a build, working on the kitchen counter/features now. Happy that I found this video!
Seeing as this is designed to be a standalone/portable unit, what did you do to securely mount it? Or is that an option already accounted for with this oven's design and installation instructions?
I'm very glad you took the time to do proper insulation in the space; that's something I hadn't considered and will now add into my plans!
You nailed it. Proper insulation is a must! For the mounting I removed the rubber feet of the camp chef(the black cylindrical pieces.) I screwed into the same holes from the plank underneath the camp chef, only with longer screws. I still sandwiched the rubber feet. I hope that makes sense! Willing to clarify if you want more info
@@peggythevan8294 No, that makes perfect sense, thanks!
Wish it fit a typical frozen pizza (ie: Tombstone) which is 12" round. Guess I'll have to lop off an edge.
Great video, and I'm going to buy it in a few minutes. I want to bring up that you said your tank was 11 gallons. I think you meant to say 11 pounds ? I mean, I have 5-gallon tanks much more significant than your "11-gallon" container. Cheers!
Propane tanks need to be in an upright position for safety, not sure if you knew that. Nice set up otherwise. Thanks for the video.
Yes you're right! Otherwise liquid from the tank clogs the line. Thanks for mentioning it, I've fixed it in my system but not the video 🙃
@@peggythevan8294 How often do you have to refill the 11lbs propane tank? I like what you’ve done with this oven and the fire retardant sheet on the side walls, it’s nicely fitted into that slot. Nice work!
Annelise Bozmarov it takes me a month. That’s based on using it in the morning to make eggs, at lunch to reheat food in a non stick pan, and lastly once a week for boiling pasta water/ cooking rice / frying steak. I also do tea every other night. These things last impressively long. The only reason to get a larger one would be if you’re fueling a heater.
Wow I was wondering and I see it all the time thanks for sharing
Alittle secret to cleaning pots ect...save old dryer sheets put in pan and add a little hot water..the dryer sheets softens hard to clean pans ect...
How did you take the top off? Not Allen wrench or screw? Pls help
I bought a 21' travel trailer in July 2022...new. My RV is off-road built with a slide-out and full bath with a large shower. I took the queen bed out and put in a double Sealy hybrid bed....which gave me awesome space. Love the bed (it has a real nice bamboo mattress covering).
And I'm 24V solar powered, which runs everything, including my A/C.
The person who designed my RV must have been a man who designed this for hunters and fishermen; as I have a 2 burner stovetop, but have a HUGE sink designed to clean fresh kill.
No oven in here, so I've been actively searching for an oven, and this oven looks like one that would work nicely.
Thank you for the specs and price of this oven.....I will remove my microwave and put this oven in it's place, then put the microwave where the TV is, then rewire in the bedroom area for the TV & blu-ray player. Then, my kitchen will be perfect.😉😁
I'd love to see your video on installation of this oven, too.
Oh.....and in August, I am taking out the dining area and putting in a wood stove with flashing and cement board, with a removable flue/smoke stack. I'll put an igloo table and wingback chair where the second fininv booth is....cozy.
With a woid stove, I won't need to use my propane heat as much next winter, here, in Idaho.😅
Yes.....Ive been living year round in my RV for almost 2 years. I live the freedom, and living off-road gives me a lot of options hiding in the mountains....especially when the SHTF....😉❤
Thank you again.....God bless you in all your future endeavors!💗
Other words it's bad a$$ of one stove . So it's an must
good info bro

It would be the transparent and honest thing to do to actually mention that Camp Chef never intended for this product to be used inside a vehicle.
How is it stabilized from coming out back to front of oven?
❎🛑🔥
Upright that Propane Tank!!!
🤣 since I posted I have. Lol.
Do you have Amazon link there is multiple camp chef ovens lol
I keep seeing people recommend these not ever be used indoors but its the perfect solution for my situation, is this still what you run and would you still recommend it?
I cook in my semi truck with butane stoves. I would crack open a window or two, but this stuff burns cleanly. I wouldn't worry too much.
Love all that paper kindling above the cook top. 😳any whoo.. you didnt mention the length that is need to install this oven? Isn’t it’s like 26 inches in length thats needed? ( plus insulation on the sides) Thanks for sharing your experience with the C.C.
😂 kindling ! I’ve since installed a paper towel holder that presses against the roll- so I ‘never’ have to worry about it unrolling and igniting.
Haha
I wish I had an EXACT answer for you about the length. The problem is that it depends! How much airspace do you want between it and other things? Are you factoring on including the walls on the side? Some people expose the side of the oven to help cool it. Maybe you want to too?
Simple but naive answer: the width of the oven without handles(21.25inches) + 2x(space of air on one side (minimum 1 inch)) + 2x(thickness of the heatproof material(1/4inch as I remember)) + 1x(thickness of the plywood siding(3/4 inch in my case)) ~= 24.5inches !
Haha maybe not actually a naive answer that sounds close to what I have in actuality 😂
Per their instruction manual and website "never use this appliance in an enclosed space, camper, tent, car, or home..." it is a carbon monoxide hazard as well. It can kill you. Not the same as a regular camper propane stove. They are designed for use in a camper.
@@baconandbullets and yet vanlifer's across the country cook every day with outdoor campstoves.
Yes, install a carbon monoxide meter for safety. Absolutely _please_ ventilate the space while using the oven, but all that warning means is that the company didn't feel it was worth their while to pay to put the product through the testing system to verify how much CO it puts out in relation to accepted levels.
Can I use this indoor?
was looking into this product for my 8x16 tiny house...how much lp gas does it use monthly? if used every other day?
He goes through 11 pounds a month frying eggs for breakfast, heating frozen stuff for lunch and cooking 3-4 dinners a week.
So full time use is probably about 15 pounds a month.
Pizza pizza it will fit small pizza. Thats all I use mine for and tortillas or toast
You know what I think is too bad? There are combi ovens that include a microwave. But I have never seen a butane combi oven, which includes a microwave run by electricity. So you will need to choose one or the other..
❤ ✌ thanks for sharing!! Wow I was just reading on another channel about when you stop for gas to turn the stove off before pumping your gas I didn't know that
Per their instruction manual and website "never use this appliance in an enclosed space, camper, tent, car, or home..." it is a carbon monoxide hazard as well. It can kill you. Not the same as a regular camper propane stove. They are designed for use in a camper.
@@baconandbullets Really? Did they somehow designed their gas burning stoves not to produce carbon monoxide? First I heard of this breakthrough!
Carbon Monoxide? ita advertised as an outdoor oven
On the booklet it tells you not to install this indoors and enclosed. Is this safe??
Thanks ❤️🇮🇪
what kind of cabinet is that called under the oven?
under oven storage drawer.
It's called a homemade cabinet.
Papers above the flames probably not a great idea though
Shouldn't a carbon monoxide detector be mounted near floor level?
A carbon monoxide detector should be mounted about 5' above the floor , whereas a propane gas detector should be around floor level.
@@Viajero69 Actually carbon dioxide "puddles" down low like propane but when it's warm it lingers higher up too.
@@fritzkabeano1969 Good to know. Cheers!
Do most frozen pizzas fit?
Did you watch the video??
I'm confused, all the versions of this oven I can find have wind flaps and handles. Is this one different or did you remove them?
I removed them myself, and you can too!
@@peggythevan8294 Thank you! I bought one and glad to hear I can remove those things!
I’m assuming for the side handles it’s just the 4 screws that are on each side?
@@cesarferreyra4394 Yes, was more concerned about the lid
@@GildedPoo I just took my side handles out since the last comment. Accidentally took more screws than needed but oh well haha
did you drill out the rivets?
Cookies 🍪
That's whats up!
You have MAJOR safety problems with your propane! Your propane tank should not be in a drawer rolling around. It needs to be in a vented locker. Very easy to make. Vent needs to go outside of van through floorboard in 3/4 in inside diameter pvc pipe. Also your carbon monoxide detector needs to be mounted on the floor near your vent box. Carbon monoxide is much heavier than air. If a leak develops, the propane needs to drop out the bottom of the vented locker out of the van. Having the detector up at the ceiling of the van is not going to alert you of a problem until the van has enough gas in it to explode.
Carbon Monoxide isn't explosive.
You're thinking of propane. Which probably won't even trigger the detector. But it does stink really badly from additives that are put in propane so people know when it's leaking
@@priestesslucy3299 I've read you can use a water soap mixture around all the connections to see if a leak exists.
Where should you place CO detectors?
If you're not sure of where to install CO detectors, you're not alone. Carbon monoxide detectors aren't as common as smoke alarms, leaving many people guessing on where to place them. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says proper carbon monoxide detector placement is "on each level of the home and outside sleeping areas."
For more specific spots, it's important to understand how carbon monoxide works. It's produced by flame sources or fuel-burning machines such as fireplaces, furnaces, gas driers, water heaters and vehicles. The gas is a slightly lighter than air and will rise, which can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The best place for a CO detector is on a wall roughly five feet from the floor, where it can measure the air at a height that people in the house are breathing it. A reasonable alternative is placing the detector on the ceiling and six inches from the wall.
@@Viajero69 Well the "smart" place is down low because carbon dioxide sinks and "puddles" down low. Same reason a propane gas alarm should be used down low.
I don't believe it would be allowed to integrate outdoor oven in a van in Europe, same with that gas drawer.
Of course not! You should do whatever your government tells you and obey all laws or you'll end up being free!
Small tip: cooking straight on that aluminium oven tray is a health risk. Get a stainless steel one
Yes fyi The ability of metals from food or cookware to cause Alzheimer's disease is a regular concern in the news. Here's the evidence behind the presence of metals such as copper, zinc, iron and aluminium. Wow thanks scary thanks for sharing
I replied to (you and) Mary Marmande - yikes. Thank you for the heads up!! I don't think my toaster oven is SS....
@@marymarmande8446 to you and Lars - wow, that is alarming, and makes sense. Like, slapping my forehead OMG. I use the aluminum tray in my toaster oven all the time. Thank you, and Lars.
Why don’t u use electric cooking tops so you don’t need to think about the air quality
Because supplying ~1700 watts to a 1500 watt cooktop is hard.
The spark is electric. 🤣
The electricity is created manually by pushing a button or turning a knob.
Wait, are these safe inside ?
No.
@@sages101 So my gas stove in my house must not be safe either!
@@fritzkabeano1969 if it's propane, you are correct!
@@sages101 Natural gas produces carbon monoxide when burned to just in case you weren't aware
@@fritzkabeano1969I know I have one in my house
Per their instruction manual and website "never use this appliance in an enclosed space, camper, tent, car, or home..." it is a carbon monoxide hazard as well. It can kill you. Not the same as a regular camper propane stove. They are designed for use in a camper.
Instruction manuals are for nerds
And yet I can use my gas oven in my house for 12 straight hours and no one dies....amazing isn't it? I think a cracked window cures the problem in a vehicle and a bigger problem is the moisture created when burning propane.
Put your carbon monoxide detector near your floor, not up high like a smoke detector.
you have small convention ovens out there. this oven is not safe. small propane oven in this small camper not good.
But a large natural gas oven in a Kitchen is perfectly safe?
I would lose that moustache if I were you
Probably should not install an outdoor oven inside. Just saying...kind of dangerous. Kinda why they label it out door oven...?
Not dangerous, it’s like any propane oven/range
Per their instruction manual and website "never use this appliance in an enclosed space, camper, tent, car, or home..." it is a carbon monoxide hazard as well. It can kill you. Not the same as a regular camper propane stove. They are designed for use in a camper.
@@baconandbullets If your home stove/oven runs on natural gas does that kill you? Those warnings are for idiots. Just make sure you have some ventilation.
Turn to Christ (KJV) probation close soon.
meh try showing cooking next time
You do know that carbon monoxide kills. Don’t you.?
This oven should NEVER be fitted in a motor home/rv/camper van.
It’s only good for out door use bud. You’re taking in carbon emissions 😢😪😬
NOT GOOD ☠️🏴☠️🤭😬🙈
So I better get rid of my gas stove in my house because it produces carbon dioxide too! Does carbon dioxide make you happy because after using my gas stove for 12 hours all my friends act happy afterwards!
Man the camping stores tell you to never use that thing inside that thing is got chemical burn off paint they didn't design that thing for indoors you dumbass
