NUX MG 30 Demo Factory Presets (no talking)

- When I ordered the NUX MG-300 amp modeler/multieffect back in August 2020 I had no expectations at all considering the highly affordable price. It´s sound quality, versatility and also "easy to use" (mostly because of the "Safe for Dummies" Quick Tone editor) has ever stunned me since then, but has also raised my expectations for the brand new MG-30.
Is it worth to upgrade? Will it sound any better? Does it provide any more features? Did NUX listen to their growing group of MG-300 users?
Yes, yes, yes and YES!!!!!

P.S. It arrived, I unboxed it, put new strings on the guitar and recorded this video. The new strings could not cope with my excitment to check out the MG-30 😉 😉 😉 But I wanted to keep it as authentic as possible, how inspiring it was for me to scroll through the factory patches. Sorry for the sometimes quite edgy tuning!
I like how you played something appropriate to each sound
Loving these reviews even if I haven't used multi-fx units in years! Keep em' coming!
Great playing ! This sounds awesome I have been looking forward to this coming out want one very much sounds amazing .
Came here first to hear the sounds, keep coming back for your chord voicings. You are an excellent player.
Thanks for the demo. I commented on your review video for mg300 and your reply helped me to decide that i should get MG300. MG 30 is slightly out of my budget and there won’t be any retailers for NUX in my country yet (i live in NZ) so i will need to be satisfied with MG300 for now. Thanks for the great vid!
I´ve already produced a comparison video MG-30 vs MG-300 which I will publish after the official announcement day on 5th March. One of my comment-lines in there will be:
"So, if you already have a MG-300 and you are happy how it sounds and feels. Keep it and don´t feel bad about not having the latest model or next step of gear." ;-) ;-) ;-)
The MG-300 is unbelievable value for it´s money!!!
Cheers, bro and thank you for supporting my channel.
Dude u got gr8 chops man. Very versatile. Made the demo quite enjoyable
At 10:15 sounds very much like Eric Johnson type of sound. I enjoyed his clean tones, great playing great demo. One of the best I've seen and the recording setup with stereo ,AMAZING.🤗
thank you for this video.
finally, i choose this.
can't wait for unbox time.
You brought us a great test of this coming up gear, mate! So sad that I already have MG300😫~
Thank You, Helmut, for presenting a demonstration that finally persuaded me to puchase the NuX MG 30. BAX Music in Holland had it for £209 so I jumped at the chance before our dwindling £ causes the price to go up. A lot of reasons why I think this unit is better than its competition, but two things spring to mind in addition to what appears to be better technology (1) the 'QuickTone' editing suite is all but equal to 'Amplitube' in its highly graphical interface, making editing so much more intuitive, and (2) it seems to have a greater number of USEFUL tones amongst its presets than its competitors. Thanks again. Great video. 🙂
Hi, David! I'm in Indonesia, I just picked up my MG 30 a month ago, for about ~US$ 200, so I think you got it for pretty cheap. Very good value. I haven't even tried a 1/4 of what this thing could do. Rock on, man!
How do you change presets on the fly with your feet? I just ordered this same one.
Dear god the clean sounds are orgasmic
Buying this tomorrow
your clean sound is insane..it sounds great.
Very nice my friend!! Excellent Guitarist!!
I am at the 4 minute 30 second point as I type this and I am amazed. What a cool little unit.
Nice playing ,sir.
New subscriber!
You realize, you can just type 4:30 in the comments and it will link to that time right?
@@MOAB-UT thank you.
@@toutou6308 Sure thing. I noticed that spot too- very nice.
I'm loving the clean sound
Me too
No kidding, I'm picking up some Eric Johnson vibes in there. Very beautiful tones.
ya so far you have the best demo. I've watched a few. in my opinion.
Excellent playing, Helmut!
Great playing Sir! Subscribed. Best Regards
this dudes rips hard with the fingerstyle ! good video and great playing!
awesome demo man!!! :) plain and pure!
Great review! Subscribed.
My friend, a great video as always. Please make a special video for MG 30’s Acoustic IR sounds, it is the first multi fx processor which uses acoustic IR s, sometimes a realistic acoustic sound from an electric guitar is very important for a working musician. I don’t want to buy a Line6 Variax for this. Thank you so much...
Of course to play like that sound it helps if you sound like that playing... and your playing is spot on.
I love Nux ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
the best demo
I bought a used MG300 to see how Nux is doing with their tone machines. Will be getting a MG30 base upon the 300. More presets, easier to disable effects on the fly via included foot switch.
Wondering if the pedal can be eq’d independent of the preset tone.
The ambient tone at the end of this sold me. I’ll be using that probably 50% of the time. Just lovely.
Excellent demo ! No single old dinosaur tube amp can do all this , not even close . Magnificent playing !
Perfect video. Excellent 👌👍😁
These tones are great! Would you say that this is comparable to using the Pod Go in preset or snapshot mode? What do you think would be the best way to plug this into an XLR on a soundboard? We mic the amps at my church but if I could use this and create presets per song it would make my life easier, but it doesn't have XLR out and we don't have any remaining 1/4" inputs open on our soundboard 😅
I can't say anything about the Pod Go, as i've never played one. Regarding XLR on the soundboard: my Focusrite iTrack audio interface also has one XLR and one 1/4, but I use a simple 1/4 to XLR cable and it works just fine.
Hello, nice review
I got mine last week. But I am facing terrible noise issue in most of high gain effects 😢.
It goes when the Amp is turned off.
How to solve it. Here you got very good sound 👍
Very nice video buddy. Dug the Motley Crue kick my heart stuff. I'm going to purchase this soon. Thanks Kemosabe 😎👍👌💯🎸🎸👋👋. It's $300 dollars US!!
Great Tone, great soun
Hi I finally got mine in the mail today, But I'm looking everywhere trying to find out how to change what appears to be Chinese to English. The tiny manual is no help as it's also in what appears to be Chinese and I've gone through about 10 other videos and searches and no luck so far. Can you help a brother out? Thank you!
How are you advancing through the patches? I assume it's with the extra 2 button foot switch that is in the box.
It seems very well, also with so good player!!!!
I haven't seen any adjustment of output/send level which can be registered
Every single patch has a "level" parametee which adjusts the volume and can be stored per patch.
The MG30 is VERY nice for the $199 I paid. You just have to eq it a bit to lower that high frequency, brittle and thin tone you get with stock settings- or adjust on your studio monitors if you use them and add a bit more bass. You can adjust on the guitar as well. It is not Fractal but for messing around at home, it will work. One of the best sub $500 modelers out there.
Agreed, impressive sound, especially the cleans are crazy, but I wish it had more of a tube-type warm sound, perhaps something that is do-able via tweaking. I’ve been torn between getting this and a Hotone Ampero
@@HenryMusic255 Honestly, just save up and buy a lightly used Fractal FM3. It is worlds better. I have had them all. Looking soon to buy the top dog- AxeFX III MkII Turbo. $2,400!
Great, thank you! A little bit of pity that only one guitar was used, I'd like to hear how LP sounds with the MG30.
Can you compare it to Hotone Ampero? Are both in the same league? Or one is significantly better than the other? THX!
More videos are coming ;-) I don't own a Hotone, but the MG-30 is definitely great value for the money!!!
Nice demo. Is the fx loop can be placed anywhere on the chain? MG-30 is quite bigger for me. I hope Nux will create an improve mg300 size with fx loop built-in plus xlr outs.
Yes, the fx loop can be placed anywhere in the chain. It is bigger and heavier, but still very compact!
Hello, can un put more then one efect category in the same chain, for example 2 diferent Overdrives or 2 diferent modulation effects?
Hi. You can change CMP block to a 2nd EFX block. Then you could stack 2 overdrives, or a boost + overdrive. If i am not wrong, the S.C.F Mod effect offers Chorus & Flanger in one pedal or you could use one of the MOD effects plus the Modulation Delay from the DLY block.
I've noticed the MG-30 doesn't have as many electric guitar cabs as the MG-300. Do the artist presets use custom IR's, or were they made with the internal cabs?
Most of them use internal IRs. But I think the Choptone patches use their own custom IRs.
Great demo! Is it ok to plug it to external audio interface with studio monitors, and still use the PC software via the USB?
Yes, that's how I recorded this demo. No problem at all.
I like all your video
Пока смотрел обзор процессора выучил интересные гитарные фразы! Поэтому учится и еще раз учится прежде чем покупать 150-й девайс, ну это я уже о себе ))) Всем творчества ! Играем !
Ñice demo❤️.
Im confused among Boss GT1, Zoom G3xn and Nux MG 30. Pls help to decide the better one with great tones and ease of use.
Thnx in advance🙏❤️
I can't say anything about BOSS and Zoom as I don't have them.
What I can say is the fact that I've used the NUX at about 500 gigs with my cover band without any problems at all.
Прекрасно!!!
I'll buy this fx tomorrow my line6 is too old..
Hello Helmut! For use in a live show with the mg30 on the floor, would you happen to know how to switch presets using one of the foot switches? Thanks in advance.
I am using it on stage the "old fashioned way" with one basic clean preset plus OD/DIST on CTRL switch and MOD + DLY on the NMP2 foot switch
@@helmutshatner Thank you Helmut. On that note, I almost have a preset I can use as my clean patch. Still trying to find or create one that comes close to my 1980s Fender Concert Amp. TBD unless you have a tip which I would be happy to hear details about. 😊👍
How U update the v4 filmware don't work
Hi Helmut, how many Aftermarket IRs can be stored in the MG 30?
One per patch = 128
Nice demo Helmut! Is there any difference in the amp sounds of this & the MG-300?
Not that much on first sight, but the MG-30 offers way more parameters to tweak those sounds to your favour (BIAS tweaking, Level per patch, 128 loadable IRs...) and offers quite some more functions (stacked Overdrives, NUX Duotime DLY, 4-cable method to connect with amp....).
@@helmutshatner thanks man!!
Can you say something about the amount of updates to this unit by Nux? Also did they add extra pedals? Which ones?
Please check out the official nuefx.com homepage about these details. Thanks
Excellent video, such great sound! Can we extract a dotted 8th delay from it?
Yes, the included NUX Duotime Delay offers dotted eights.
This is truly the Ultimate demo for MG-30. Well done, Helmut! Just tweak the tuning a bit!
It arrived, i unboxed it, put new strings on the guitar and then recorded this video :-) :-) :-) The new strings took a while to stay in tune :-( :-( :-(
Great demo Helmut. Can the MG30 Presets and Cab IRs be used in the Mg300 and vice versa? If so how do they sound? Pls Test.
MG-300 and MG-30 are different systems e.g. MG-30 uses 1024 samples IR versus 512 samples at the MG-300. Therefore patches and IRs are not compatible. But MG-30 comes with 128 professionally designed patches!
@@helmutshatner Great review! Can all of the patches be overwritten or are half fixed presets like the Mg300?
@@ttexas1963 All 128 patches are rewriteable!!!
@@helmutshatner Thank you, appreciate your reviews on the the Mg300 as well.
I listened to the comparison to the mg 300 video and heard more quality especially in the high end in the mg 30. I just pre ordered one. I wonder when it will available?
What country are you living?
Nice👍
Can u make the difference in sound when u plug the mg 30 to audio interface and real amp??
Yes, i've already recorded videos with amp, but have to wait until 5th March for official announcement.
Can the ctrl button activate on off more than one effect?
As far as I know yet, yes only one effect on/off. But it comes with a NMP-2 footswitch to control two more effect blocks.
Anyone know when this is going to be on sale in the Uk ? Similar tones to HT ampero but I’m keen to hear sound quality of looper
It will be officially launched March 5th and hopefully available end of March or early April. Good luck

Wow
A small question.... are you playing new string set? PS i just red what you wrote in descripion .... I apologize for my stupid question
Yes, that´s the problem why the guitar sounds out of tune quite often. I used to live in Thailand and ordered 10 packs of D´Addario strings from Lazada. After i noticed, that these strings take extremely long to stay in tune and break way more often than I am used to with D´Addarios I found out, that they were fake ones :-( :-( :-(
Product piracy is still a huge topic in Asia.
@@helmutshatner don't tell me about piracy 'cause I am Italian 😁😁😁, I asked because I hear a "squeeky" sound.
For sure I am not experience like you, but if you allowed me to give my 2 cents I would suggest to try elixir. Imho even if a little expensive and flatter already at the beginning, they keep very well over time. in my opinion they are worth the higher expense. Thank you for your kind reply.
Very nice video, very informative, thank u so much, u made me buy this little box of wonders :)
The nux works great on my MacBook Air 2014, on the iMac 2011 model, it seems to do all kinda odd stuff, hope nux will make a new firmware so I can use it on my old iMac to :)
Wy the old iMac?? Its more powerful than the MacBook Air :)
Anyway, keep up the good work, job well done mate!
Thx for video! Is the sound of mg-30 and mg-300 the same?
I'd say in a blind test one would maybe have a hard time to distinguish both. But MG-30 offers better IR sample rate (1024), two processors and quite some more features like stacking overdrives, Duotime Delay, moveable effect blocks, BIAS tweaking plus more connections, aluminium alloy chassis and the included MNP-2 footswitch for pseudo stompbox mode.
Cool ! Are the presets the same as the mg300 and are the tones identical? Thx
I'll answer my own question.. the presets are different. Tone quality is the same.
@@kenmasters007 Tone quality should be better as well, as there are 2 DSPs in the MG-30 and IR´s use 1024 samples instead of 512.
GOOD STUFF
Fantastic
Awwwh, that´s nice of you! Thanks! Well, I actually thought about doing some instruction videos every once in a while. But then again I stopped myself, as there are already too many "guitar teachers" out there trying to make a living with UA-cam.
@@helmutshatner Thanks my friend :) I love your channel and that's good enough to me :D
im gonna buy the nux mg 30 because of you jazz meister helmut :) its much better in sound than the mg 300 dont you think ?=
Both units are great value for the money
Plz tell me mg30 or zoom g5n or hotone ampero . Which one is best
I haven´t played neither the zoom nor the hotone, but the MG-30 is really amazing for it´s price!!!
If helix sound is a 10 what do you score this taking only sound into equation
That´s a difficult question to answer, as I don´t know a lot about HELIX. All I´ve seen so far, those are awesome products with incredible features - but just not within my budget-range. Let´s say it this way: I am just a "old-school" working musician. I play Oldies, RnR, RnB, Top10, Pop, Soul, Blues and some (not too heavy) Rock. The MG-300 already offers all sounds i needed, but the new MG-30 might sound slightly better and offers features (stacking overdrives, Duotime Delay, NMP-2 footswitch, EFX-loop, aluminium alloy chassis..) that are important for me as a (hopefully soon again) gigging musician. I am playing either right into the PA at backing track gigs or with 4-cable-method into an amp or - like in nearly all my videos - into a Focusrite iTrack Solo audio interface.
I know, you didn´t ask about it, but what also made me a fan of the NUX MG-line is the QuickTone Editor software. It´s as easy as working with real pedals or amps and even looks like that. Cheers!
@@helmutshatner great answer
Why didn’t you do Leo’s presets (bank 9)?
My fault!!! I think to remember that I somehow thought they'd be bass presets and therefore skipped the whole bank :-( :-( :-(
Hello Helmut, thanks for the great test, and great playing. I have bought the Nux MG 30 with last firmware upgrade, but all the factory patches dont sound as yoursat all! (may be it's my playing and my strat), the sound are so harsh and without fullness and bottom end (and the result is the same in every output, line output, headpnones output, USB output straight in my macbook pro i5 with garageband)
Any suggestion?
Have a marry Christmas
It's hard to judge without hearing your problem, but maybe lower the volume on your guitar or the input/output level on the MG-30.
Maybe also post your topic at the NUX MG-30 GROUP DISCUSSION & PATCHES Facebook group.
@@IshredGuitar In the meantime I solved all my problems selling my MG30 and buying a Kemper Stage... I stop loosing my time in tweaking and ... restarted playing again , with great satisfaction now!
How's the expression pedal? Can it do volume swells? I know the mg 300 can't, and that's a deal breaker.
Both units can do volume swells, but you have to calibrate exp pedal first.
@@helmutshatner Thanks for replying. Another youtuber said you could not really do great swells on 300. Nobody has done a demo.
@@caseyspaos448 Check out the last few seconds from this video. That's about as good as it gets:

what are you playing thru to get that sound
I use the analogue outs into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
@@helmutshatner ya i have the same then thru monitors. Wow the clean sounds great. Im not sure if im going to get a processor or not. I'll watch a few more of your videos.
Wow, does it have any synth too?
Not that I know. Just some rotary effect that might make your guitar sound like an organ.
Is it green?😳
better than the mg300 with robust features but twice in price....great playing
How does this do against a Quad Cortex?
That's a good question! Quad Cortex surely is more advanced, more powerful and also way more expensive. Question is, whether you you will need this all?
@@helmutshatner Well what do you think yourself?
@@Stoffendous It really depends on, how deep you want to dig in. The NUX offers loads of value/options for the money and is more or less easy to handle like an analog pedalboard. I really don't know about the Quad. Does it sound much better? Is it as easy to use/setup? Does it offer that much more options compared to it's higher price?
id like to buy the boss gt1000 i just cant justify $1500..
Nah, get a FM9- easily the king right now. If on a tight budget, grab one of these for 199.00 like I did at GC.
Price ?
299,- EURO
This or Mooer g150?
I don´t know about the Mooer, but this new toy sounds extremely good and comes in a nice package (aluminium alloy chassis, connections, free NMP-2 footswitch...) for that little money.
@@helmutshatner thank you !
Sorry, but you never changed the pickup? All the sounds using the middle and bridge pickups....and the others?
Yes, you are right. I decided to do so, as the video is already very long with just one pickup-combination. It´s not easy to cover all aspects in one video without getting too long. I do also have various other guitars and should maybe do a similar video like I did here with the MG-300:
