    What an ABSOLUTE palaver!! No wonder this case was SOOOOOO infamous!!
    Incidentally, the child involved, Geoffrey did eventually become the 5th Baron Ampthill, and has descendants!!
    BRAVO on yet another BRILLIANT video, Robin and team!! 👍❤💞👏🌟

      How are you doing!?! We all very very much hope you are much improved!! ❤️
      Yes, you are quite right! 👍 There was another trial (which we probably will not be covering) where sir John Russell's son (by his 2nd wife) and Geoffrey duke it out (sorry, could not resist 😏) and Geoffrey was found to be the rightful heir. On the one hadn, we admire the ferocity of Christobal, as mother, to protect the rights of her child. On the other hand, wow - this is why children (and in our great age we believe an 18 year young adult is still a child) should not get married. As one gets older, sometimes those huge life decisions just blow up massively with life long repurcussions. The court cases nearly destroyed the family utterly and their fortune.🤔

    As always I very much enjoyed your video thanks R.C. and team for sharing these videos with us to enjoy and thanks for all your hard work putting out these videos videos. This was a very strange case to be honest the actions of all the people did not make sense to me. Just to many twist and turns. Wishing you all the best in the coming days.

      Thank you! 🙏yes, people are strange! The divorce case nearly utterly broke Lord Ampthill and really, historically, all for naught. The child which was insisted was not his ended up becoming heir (that was a different exepnsive trial). He had married without his parents approval - it is rare that we see a case in our records where the parents do not end having been right...🤔

      yes, she was "plucky", as they said in their day! We are somewhat amazied she got away with it! 🙄We often think, with many of our stories, wow - that would make a brilliant film! This was basically a divorce case of "he said she said," a volleyball of back and forth. The Russell vs. Russell case could have easily been solved regarding the paternity of the infant son now because of DNA testing. They could determine whether Russell was the father or not, period! Great investigating, presenting, backstory, illustrations, photos and videos, as well. Take care 🦋

    • @ChronicleofTheTimes2024
      @ChronicleofTheTimes2024  Місяць тому

      Yes, it was but wow, the back story was outrageous!😲 We are fairly sure that no Lord wishes to have the papers scream out the headlines that their heir had his own stockings and corset and liked to dress up. Or that the daughter in law seemed to have no end of possible fathers for her child except their own son. 🤔 We think the aristocrats had way too much time on thier hands...😉

      @ChronicleofTheTimes2024  Місяць тому

      Ah yes - that old "doing the act unknowingly whilst sleepwalking excuse". It is ALMOST as good as the "got preganant because I had a bath after you" excuse. This is why sex education in schools is important!😉

    Even if it wasn't his, he'd have done better to claim the child as his own.
    Stating publicly that you haven't consumated your marriage is more than a little embarrassing. Besides...you dont want the poor kid growing up and reading about his possible illegitimacy in the papers.

    • @ChronicleofTheTimes2024

      The whole thng was handled exceedingly badly, by all parties, and wow, was he young. 🤔 We are sure the whole safeguarding of the genetic pool was at the heart of this and it is understandable that if you have a big estate, you want it to be handed down to family, not someone else's child. It was a mess at the time and remained a mess for years and years. Sometimes those terribele decsions one makes have lasting impact...😔He also clung on to her well beyond the sell by date. We have wondered - was it because of the dresses and his acces to them? It was supposed to be a hugely successful and very chic dress shop....🤔

    • @robertalpy
      @robertalpy Місяць тому +1

      @ChronicleofTheTimes2024 The dresses! That is probably why he did stick around for so long. I was wondering that myself and that makes sense. She must have been one hell of a seamstress. Id just find another dress maker. If I were into wearing dresses that is...to each his own.

    When did we figure out the genetics of blood groups? I'm rummaging in the dark recesses of a very crowded attic. Not coming up with anything, but a nagging feeling that it was around the time of this case.

    • @ChronicleofTheTimes2024
      @ChronicleofTheTimes2024  Місяць тому +2

      Hmmmm, we do not know! 🤔The case resurrected itself in the 70's over the battle of who was heir - it was before the advent of dna testing (although we are guessing that the current descendents would posisbly pass on that testing..._😉

    • @capt.bart.roberts4975
