Tired Trek Full Suspension gets absolutely overhauled!

- In this market, it's really hard to make a profit on used bikes. But we can try our hardest to put good ones back on the trail! When a family friend told me they were looking for a mountain bike for their daughter, I found them a tired old Trek for $750, and gave it a major overhaul. But did I overpay?

Keep the Flip Bike Series coming. Great content for all bike enthusiasts.
yes!
I enjoy it 🚲
yes please!!
What do you watch Flip Bike for? Is it the fixing up of bikes, the proof of value, the education, or something else? In this market where even bike companies are struggling to make a profit, we can still put bikes on the trail and have fun with it. If the "flip" is just a bonus feature for you, I'll get to work on finding some more clunkers!
Just a fun process to watch truthfully
I watch it just dreaming of one day also owning a nice bike
You forgot to pin your comment😂
In a way it feels like some justification of the Buy, Upgrade, Sell cycle that has taken me from Walmart bike to a Specialized Status in a few years with way less out of pocket at a time than most of the people I ride with.
i watch it to learn how to work on a bike and becuse is fun.
I love this series. Makes me much more willing to buy used and upgrade.
My buddy bought a used Marlin 5. We upgraded it by putting a new crankset, bottom bracket, rear wheel, cassette, shifter, derailleur, and wheels. The bike was $280. After upgrades it could be sold for $700+ for when he decides to get full sus.

Agree, but keep in mind that Seth has well over $1000 worth of tools at his disposal.
@@stradric Agreed 👍 I do basic maitnence myself, but big overhauls/upgrades definitely go to the shop. What he does is open my eyes to the possibilities.
@@ashleylaughlin1425 just keep in mind Seth has years of experience to be able to eyeball a bike and have a good idea what he’s getting into. If you don’t know what you don’t know, you can very quickly end up with a money pit.
Love watching these videos! I can slowly learn how to service my own bike by watching you flip bikes, thank you
I stumbled across this series and channel while trying to modernize and fix my neglected 2008 Trek 6000. Thanks to advice and insights from this series it’s now converted to a 1x9, hydraulic disks, new bars, stem, grips, seat, bearings repacked and running great. All for around $250 as well! The added bonus is the quality content on this channel I now know about!
Yeah I could have gotten a new, modern bike, but I love to fix things and make them better. I feel more proud to ride my upgraded bike than I would to have bought one new.
These flip bike videos are probably my favorite series of yours. Keep this up.
It's so nice that you did this for the daughter of your family friend, Everyone trying to get into mountain biking should have someone who know their way around a bike and can help make sure a bike is in good shape for riding. Props
Seth I have learned so much from your videos. I love the flip bike series and hope to see more bikes overhauled by you regardless of price because with you it is the personal touch and explanation of what is going on with the choices you make for the bikes. I like the built not bought attitude that you have with flip bike.
I love the flipbike series. They are fun to watch and I especially like watching how you overcome issues you find on older bikes, like that frozen pivot bolt. Please keep them coming.
It’s amazing to see this series back, thanks to this I learned so much on bike mechanics and restoration work. Thank you Seth for bringing it back! Greetings from the Netherlands!
Incredible! I only recently restored the same bike, only in Medium - and I was inspired by the Flip Bike series!
Finally! Best series on the channel! Flip bike and trail building are the best! ❤
I had a fuel EX8 of the same age as this. The geometry was all kinds of wrong, but the suspension and components were bulletproof
This video is pure perfection, except for seths fly being down at 8:00
Wachu mean fly? 😂

I love this series. not only are you doing something SUPER rad by putting your time and money to get good bikes in the hands of people who want them, but im also learning WAY more watching these than i ever do on "how-to" videos. im actually considering doing some of my own maintenance and restoration on my bikes.
I love watching overhaul and restoration videos of almost any kind and with bikes it's no different! Great work getting these back on the trail.
I could not care less if the flip makes a profit. I enjoy watching the process of you evaluating the bike and picking where to maintain/upgrade.
Nice job on the rebuild. I really enjoy watching your videos
I just binged the whole series. Insane amount of value. Keep them going!
Keep them coming Seth. This is a good series. Helps people to look into this option and semi upgrade parts for a better bike. Also helps you look out for things that are wrong with a 2nd hand bike
Would love to see a full linkage/suspension overhaul video. There's a lot of specialty tools that a lot of home mechanics don't have. Would be great to see you "get by" and tips for improvising with more common tools. Great video as always!
@@enriqueamaya3883 can jesus teach me to service my suspension with limited resources? If he can, I’ll consider believing in him (but almost definitely not).
Hello Seth I have been watching your videos for about a year and I absolutely love them keep up the good work!
It’s the education and restoration for me that I love to see! Your Flip bike videos are my favorite! I think your best video ever was the vintage white Diamondback restoration 🔥 keep up the good work!
Love this series! I’m pretty new to mountain biking and have been slowly fixing my trek superfly FS, this series has given me tons of tips and helped me figure out a game plan!
Brilliant video as always Seth. Inspired me to change the bearings on my linkage myself as opposed to getting my shop to do it!
This is such a crazy coincidence I just got a 2011 hifi pro with pretty much the same neglect not as cutting edge as that fuel 9 but when you’re trying to get a full suspension that’s good you can’t quite beat 400. Hoping to breathe new life into my tired trek just like you are doing here!
This series is awesome. I have watched your Flip Bike videos over and over again. It helps give me ideas of what and how to upgrade my bike to fit my needs :)
I like to see the upgrades and decisions you make in these videos. Very helpful even if there’s little profit in it.
Great Videos, keep it up.
I really like those types of Video, but showing the repair a bit more detailed would make it even better
This series has inspired me to work on my bike and fix up some old family bikes in the shed.
I absolutely love this series! I especially like when you print your own replacement decals. ❤
Got my first bike in 2019... I enjoy your rebuilds... you got me into MTB biking and buying my first bike and upgrading... 4 bikes later and I still get a kick at your rebuild episodes.... solid 👊🏼
Its fine, even trek owners overpay for trek bikes :)
Just not as much as Specialized owners overpay by 😂
As a trek owner I buy used bikes for a reason…
@@TheAegisClaw*cries in specialized*
As a Trek owner myself, unfortunately I agree
You inspired me to build a bike from old bikes at the bike shop. They let me build it, it was insane. Thank you for being my Mentor
I love watching Flip Bike! In part for the technical know how and also because old bikes are pretty cool. Glad to see you giving them new life on the trails!
Hope this gets the views, cause it's so enjoyable to watch the process and repair choices made along the way.
I watch these videos because I appreciate keeping perfectly good bikes on the trails and you present them very well. It is informative and hopefully will inspire more people to do the same. Please keep them coming.
Awesome video as always, you brought this bike back to life! keep on doing that!
kashima coating is just gorgeous.
Love this series watched since the beginning. keep em coming!
I love flip bike you need to do them all the time. Fun and educational to see you working on everything, and good bikes are so expensive there are a lot of us fixing up old stuff. I have a great one in pieces I need to get going and I find these videos fun and helpful!
I love these videos. I love all the berm peak videos, but flip bikes are inspirational for those of us building our old bikes into something special on a budget. Really looking forwards to more, even if they are passion projects rather than profit projects.
This series is the best imo, educative and great to watch. hope to see more!
Please continue this series! I love watching the successes and failures and whole process overall. It has inspired me to try my hand at flipping bikes. Though, not the most profitable side hobby, it is fun and challenging. Just bought a whole set of tools to work on the bikes I have recently aquired and will be having fun with them for months to come as I strip down, clean, polish and spec them out.
I like watching the upgrade and fix videos and they're some of my favorites. Breathing new life into things that have been used and neglected is lovely as it is, but it's also a great way to figure out upgrade paths and what servicing needs to be done.
I've started riding again after I bought a cheap and misused MTB from a flea market and it's been a fun repair and upgrade path to get it to where it is now. The only thing that's left of the original purchase is the frame, but the bike is mine. Everything on it fits me and it's the most comfortable and maneuverable bike that I've tried. Getting random compliments on the street about the bike is such an unexpected and satisfying thing, knowing the sorry state it was in when I got it.
It's silly, but I want to see more older bikes being rejuvenated and out into the world, getting complemented.
Finally some flip bike again! Had to rewatch the old vids because I enjoy this series so much
Hell yeah please do more of these flip bike series. Fun to watch and even better this bike is going to a family friend.
Love this series, very nice to watch plus we always learn something new!
I love the flip bike stuff. I love the old to new sequences and the finished article always looks ace. Keep doing these vids.
The flip bike series is one I've watched more than once. I love these episodes so a big yes, please. Keep doing what you love and we'll love to keep watching.
Absolutely love this series it's great that it's back nice work as always
So a little over a year ago, I went down with rotator cuff surgery and during recovery, I found your channel. Fast forward to today and I’m riding an old Trek 3500 in the same color scheme as this one and trying to get healthier and more active. Your videos have been informative as well as inspirational to for getting back pedaling after a many- years hiatus! Thanks for the great vids, entertainment and info! Hope to meet you some day and thank you personally!
Please don't stop bringing the series! Thx to you I overhauled a 2005 Kona which now rides like it was new!
I love flip bike for a few reasons, one to see you rescue old bikes for someone else's future enjoyment, to get ideas that I may use on my old Haro in future (I have already bought CST's for it and a Hussefelt stem to get rid of the terrible steering feel and to bring the bars closer to my hands) and to learn how to rebuild bikes so one day I can pull my 7Point apart and do a complete rebuild. So thanks for doing these Seth and bring on more Flip Bikes!
I love all the content you make it’s entertaining and informative. Keep it coming
Thanks yet again Seth. These Flip Bike episodes always make me want to go out and clean, service, or rebuild one of my many bikes. Profit aside, keep em coming! An unused bike returning to the trail is totally in the spirit of Flip Bike!
Gosh your videos are fun to watch. Thanks Seth!
I love flip bike for the fixes. My favorite bike is an old 94 Kona Kula. I've learned some cool tricks, great tips and cheap fixes from this segment. And it helped me appreciate my old girl more then I did.
Love this episodes! They teach us the potential of that older bike sitting in the garage for a long time!
I watch because it’s a very entertaining and non stressful way to learn. Did I mention entertaining? I enjoy your evaluation of what needs fixing vs replacing. And I enjoy the heck out of all your videos.
Seth, keep the breadth of videos coming. The Flip Bike series is fun as you seem to enjoy taking what you see in a bike and tweaking it to get to its full potential ... all the while explaining what you're doing and keeping it real.
My experience with buying used bikes to build up my stable is it can be hit and miss. I overpaid for the first bike as all the running gear eventually had to be replaced and as you noted in the video I could have spent the same money on a new bike with an upgraded front shock. Sometimes its the journey and not the destination and Seth's can-do attitude is infectious.
Man, this was so satisfying to watch! Thanks for the wonderful content Seth! 😄👍
Looks amazing, your friends daughter will be stoked. Well done. I just renovated a 90s hybrid Giant verge find into a gravel bike. It is now my favourite bike. So satisfying.
I watch for the education and appreciation of bikes. Giving an old bike a new chance at life is satisfying
Omg i missed this series sooooo much!!!! finally this made my enitre week, thanks Seth
Flip bike is back! this is my second favorite series on your channel (behind build & ride)
Flip Bike vidz are excellent for all the reasons not associated with profit and loss. Thanks for sharing, Seth!
I was gifted a bike just like this recently from a group of friends I ride with at this bike park I go too since I was riding a huffy using it as a dirt jumper, and it's really nice to see my favorite mtb'er UA-camr flip one. My love for riding mtbs all started with watching sethsbikehacks since 2017 and it's just been a blessing how far ive came and how far this channel came to be what it is now. Thanks to you Seth, your channel has welcomed me to this sport going out riding bikes, and also learning how to work on them💪
I love flip bike! Don't stop! And this sweet old trek deserves to be back on the trail!
YES! YES! A hundred times yes. Seth, this fills the FlipBike void I've been missing. Thank you!
Flip Bike episodes are just good. Love seeing good bikes get a nice refresh!
I love the flip bike series, keep doing it Seth it fun to watch.
Seth, I always pick up maintenance tips and how tackle problems (stuck bolts and measurement issues) when I watch this series. Thank you!
I’ve watched a lot of the Flip Bike series, and I learned a lot from Seth! I recently stumbled apon a 2016 Commencal Meta, Purchased it, Flip biked it, and Im enjoying it for myself!! This bike is up to date and still feels amazing for few year old bike. I loved saving this bike and it’ll forever be ridden..
posting these flip bike videos helps minimize, or even eliminates your losses. So, please keep them coming.
I don't even ride and I thoroughly look forward to this series. I look forward to learning about parts, how to fix them, affordable solutions to keep a bike up. It definitely gets the juices flowing and has me wanting to dive in to the hobby and have some confidence in doing so
Seth, PLEASE do more flip bike. I love watching you work on these rides, it makes me want to work on mine.
It is a pleasure to see you are restoring those pieces of MTB legacy!
I love these flip bike videos. Keep them coming!
Great choice in picking purple. Not something I'd normally choose, but seeing it now... man... that looks so good with the greens.
Keep flip bike coming! Just the encouragement to fix up my old bike is well worth it.
Love flip bike. Sends out good will in your community. Fun to watch Seth work and creates good content!
Keep ‘em coming. Great series!
you honestly don’t understand how amazing it is to see a notification from you’re flip bike. Got so much inspiration from you thank you!
This is probably my favorite series and it teachs me. A lot of stuff about mtb
I really love these flip bike videos Seth! Keep it up!!!
The bike looks fabulous, with this channel and old shovel it inspired me to buy old bikes and fix them up,Chris
This is the best series ever Seth thanks for bringing it back. I’ve watched all of them 3 times now
OMG 🤯 AMAZING WORK!
Congratulations from Japan!
Love seeing you refresh bikes!
To be honest I just love watching you working on bikes. Do whatever you want and I’ll keep watching.
I am soo happy to see Flipbike back on the channel.❤
been wanting a new flip bike episode forever, so glad to see it back!
Because of this series i got myself a used mtb and now im fixin it up.Thanks Seth❤
I have a 2012 Trek Remedy 8, just upgraded it to higher specs thanks for your Flip Bike videos. Now I'm watching a similar Trek going on almost the same thing as my bike. Thank you for the awesome videos Seth!
This Series is simply legendary. Pls more of it
Seth we absolutely love these flip bike episodes, whether you're making a profit or not we would love to see them weekly! Also we'd like to see the new owner take delivery of the bike and their reaction.
Today I mentioned Seth as the guy who got me into MTB. Thank you Seth! You rock!
Keep doing it! I found it entertaining for sure. Especially when things go south like the bold was stuck. Can you do more in details videos about fork service and rear suspension service ? Thanks.
So glad to see Flip Bike come back. Watching your series gave me the background I needed to convert my son’s 3X to a 1X drivetrain for less than $100 and extend the life of the bike by another year with a “mega-range” cassette. As you said, it’s not always about the money. I kept a decent bike on the trails, and I’ll be able to pass it on to someone else in another year with much better functionality.
Hi Seth, I really enjoy watching this series please do more!
