I just picked this model up for 25 quid. Egyptian decals but it's definitely a 27. The serial number suggests built in 1873 in Aberdeen. Still runs "perfectly smooth" after cleaning with WD40 and re-oiling. A piece of industrial history anyone can own.

My wife was given a 1904 Model 27 and I (the husband} was tasked with cleaning and getting things to work again. Luckily there were no major issues and after cleaning and oiling the moving bits, the machine seems to rotate quite well. I tested the machine by placing a piece of paper under the shoe and installed a needle . The machine made nice uniform holes in the paper in a straight line. So far so good. Threading the shuttle was one of the questions I had as I am not a sewing person myself and this singer's shuttle/bobbin holder is not something my wife is familiar with. Your video helps out a lot, however I wished you would have had a close-up of threading the shuttle sequence.

Thank you so much for this video! A friend gave me her great grandmother's 27 from 1898, and for the life of me, I could not figure out the bobbin winder! I figured there was a rubber ring that went on it and it would move so it touched the wheel, but it was too short. It didn't occur to me to put it behind the belt like that. Thank you so much!

I think I have a very similar machine. Does your machine have a K serial number and a bobbin case ejection button under the needle plate? Is the spring a separate part or is it part of the bobbin case. Please show more details. Thanks.

If you machine is like the one in the video, it takes a standard common needle available anywhere they sell sewing goods. Happy stitching!

I just got this sewing machine today off Marketplace and I’m really excited. Where did you get the belt from?

I get my leather treadle belts from my local sewing machine shop, but they can be found online as well. I have a video showing how to put on the belt if you need assistance. Enjoy!

You can find many old sewing machine parts online on auction sites and other sellers. Sounds like you are looking for a shuttle and bobbins, as well as a front slide plate for a model 27 Singer sewing machine. Good luck!
