  • Footage of the chimpanzee group at ZooParc de Beauval in France. It's the only video I have since I primarily focus on the gorillas. I'm not familiar with the names of the chimps, but there's a young one I briefly spotted peeking out from under its mother.

Due to background noise from human activity, the original audio has been mixed with natural bird songs for a more peaceful viewing experience. Where possible, I will keep the natural sound intact.

That baby looked like an extra from Planet of the Apes! Lovely group of chimps. 😊❤

Oh, SV, please tell me that alopecia runs in this group, too.....bc otherwise, they are all v highly stressed and overgrooming, and that's sad (even though they seem to be playing and acting normally).

Unfortunately I couldn't say either way. I don't know the group at all and only filmed that day. I tried to find out some more, but was unsuccessful.
I didn't like their inside. It looked very cramped, but the outside made up for it as it was a huge island. Like you said, they seemed to act normal.

@SloggerVlogger it makes me sad, because I looked it up and I think that if it were alopecia they would be like Jambo. Unfortunately, they're missing hair in spots they can reach. So it's overgrooming or a poor diet. Sad either way. Apparently, the same thing happened in Magdeburg, Germany

Agree. I did hear about Magdeburg. Looking at Twycross Chimpanzees ( apart from Jambo) the rest of the group started to loose their hair when they had the group integration and the move. So it might have been all the changes and stress due to that. Certainly the diet is a big part of it as well. When I see the Chester zoo chimps, they look so much healthier than any other groups I've seen and they've gone through a few changes. Yes they've got Alice who's nearly bold, but on a whole they look really well. The biggest difference that I can see is that they get fruit on a regular bases. Even though most zoos say they don't feed fruit because of the high sugar content of our western fruit. Chester feeds such a great variety of apples, oranges, bananas, different veg and the normal primate biscuits/pellets it seems to make a difference. I use to think space is a big factor as well, but I don't believe that anymore. It is more how you use the space you've got.

Is there an all male troop here? Or does the alpha like boys too? 0:13

No this is a mixed group, as you can see from the baby in the group. 😊
