    It's nice to see you smile. I think you made the right decision: an eco-friendly house that follows international standards. I would like to give you 2 small suggestions. Maybe you can ask the architect / builders to make protecting bamboo shields to cover the glass windows during a typhoon because windows (glass) can break easily. The shields can be removable and only be needed during a typhoon. Glass windows are one of the weakest materials of any kind of building. The second suggestion: if you have coconut trees near your (future) house, cut the trees that can hit your house because your house can be typhoon and earthquake resilient but it cannot be saved from a falling coconut tree. Wish you all the best.

    Treated bamboo is the perfect building material, well done for promoting it. It’s strong, and a fast growth plant so renews faster than timber.

    This is a nice project. Remember, your choice of place is near the ocean. This type of house will be blown easily by the wind. We lived in the Philippines when I was small. We had houses built by my grandparents. It had iron grills and cemented posts. It was blown by typhoons. The whole roof was blown into the next street. The whole building collapsed, including our elementary school.
    It was heartbreaking. Check very well the building you are planning to build. The materials to be used in building construction. Take care and good luck. We wish you a comfortable and happy life in the Philippines 🇵🇭 .

      Look into this type if building a bit further, you will find it offers equal typhoon resistance and better earthquake resistance. It's main weakness is they are currently being built on concrete and rebar foundations

    Just like the previous comment here, check with the builder if their mostly wooden house can withstand typhoons like Odette or Yolanda. Looking at their video, the house could be built with strong wooden ( 8”x8” ) columns around 6 to 8 pieces, 6x6 beams around the house ceiling, or with columns and beams made of steel or reinforced concrete, whichever of the 3 materials is cheaper or which you prefer.

    • @ziggarillo

    I think u need to build a concrete house becausr Siargso is typhoon prone area. Just look and observe the houses at your neighborhood then you will know what and how your house should be built. Just an opinion though or you can consult from the experts, the engineers (🙂✌). Excited to see your doon to be house!

      @doug849 Рік тому +4

      Must say I agree with your comments. I would build in a product which has proven itself in those conditions over many years. A house is your biggest investment and the decision has to be grounded on facts rather than something unproven just because its trendy at the time. Maybe my decision would be based more on life experience as I am in my 70s but you cannot beat experience!

    The thought of you guys having your own house is also our happiness.. I'm glad the you got in touch with CUBO.. Having a sustainable smart house is what we wanted as well as long as it's a hurricane/storm/earthquake proof like you said then everything will be fine! I also am familiar with engineered bamboo since I'm also a furniture designer and we were able to design floor tiles for some government agency. I saw how the manufacturers do the process of flattening and polishing it. What we use as a finish for the tiles is POLYURETHANE it will also act as a dirt/waterproof which I think Cubo is also familiar with and they also used them for finishes. The problem with those is rust 😳 On this island they’d really need a lot of paint and maintenance

    • @ziggarillo
      @ziggarillo 11 місяців тому +1

      @@8milesfromhome Rust really isn't much of an issue with shipping containers. However once you start to modify them they lose some of there structural integrity. They need to be modified to allow for natural light and ventilation. This involves cutting holes into, or removing parts of the corrugated steel skin. Counter intuitively this is an important part of the structure of a container. Designing a container shaped building ftom scratch ensures that openings for windows, doors and access to adjacent units (for open plan style spaces) doesn't compromise the stability of the finished building.

    Hope to see very soon your house in your own land there in siargao. Good luck to your life and vlogs adventures. Keep safe always fellas. Morevpower to you all. Make sure that the house you're to build can stand the storms to pass the island. Make sure it's strong as it should be.

    We’re also looking for the same one. Glad you found a smart home. i’m not sure with the bamboo interior even if its treated. We will just wait for a year or two when they have another design that does not use wood 😊 love the idea that its all there no hassle in terms of building and its also quick to install. They said that the waiting time is around 6 to 12 months once you pay for the reservation. Thanks for sharing! very exciting to have your own place…

    Jay and Sasha... good luck with all the comments!!! hahaha... a lot of these are contradicting, but valid... for me the key word is "typhoon"... i don't think just because it is a play on the words KUBO and CUBE, means that it is actually like a kubo made from nipa or light wood... a lot of kubos and homes build with light wood were damaged during the typhoon, but not the more sturdy ones... and you've got engineers working on it, and have international standards and technology build into it... so , i think you're good... and the 50 year warranty covers typhoons? hehehe... so, if you ask me, personally, i would go for CUBO, because i don't want to go through the hassle of building from scratch, in a quite remote island, with most building materials and fittings not being available there, having to make sure it is sturdy (aka an architect or engineer), and your location is quite remote too and not near the town center, etc etc... so there... oh... if you haven't done already... go get yourselves a satellite phone... just saying... good luck...

    Just try to tell them if that house is built for a rainy season and built to be able to stand the typhone...bamboo woods are really need to have a always need a maintenance...
    But for us to suggest is that just try to contact a good nice and good contructor to build a conrete two bedroom house that will last for how many years, it is only good this bamboo house is only in a farm or very far from the sea...Just saying, same as I always told you before in you old car that to buy a new car that makes you always a problem until you buy a better one...
    This is the same as the house, you need to be practical if you will be spending millions and SO YOU NEED TO BUILD A BETTER STRONG AND TYPHONE BUILT HOUSE...Try to have a second taught of buying this and consult to a professional engineer...befor buying it because it will very hard to late..

      You didn't watch the video did you. It's going to be made of "enginered" wood not freshly cut bamboo poles .

      @@ziggarillo Sir, with all due respect. I've been a SOLID FOLLOWERS of this family since they came to Philippines and watch all of their video's from starting up to the ending of the video for how many years now. Let us use our commonsense in this situations since you will agree with me because your house is made of concrete and depending on the structure it is worth more than a millions of pesos located in a private subdivision that is very far from the ocean, A concrete house built with steel and cement wipe out by big typhoon in just few minutes or hours, do you think this engineered designed bamboo house can stand this kind of situation. Well I guess not and you can watch the biggest disaster that happen in our country the YOLANDA, Even this couple experience how strong the typhoon that always hits the Philippines, watch their video the time they cried in horror how the typhoon hits Siargao, and the fact is that it is only a small typhoon, but almost got Siargao wipe out by it and not the same as Yolanda. What I' am saying is that, for the sake of our family, SAFETY is always priority, this kind of engineered houses that you mention is not meant along side the ocean or even in an island, the fact you are spending millions of pesos so it should be better worth buying for, built that it is safe for all kind of disaster at least.
