Ironic because as a Sixers fan I was heartbroken when we got the 2nd pick in the Duncan draft because we were one pick away from an AI/TD dynasty. So I remember wanting the Sixers to trade for Jermaine O’Neal because I always liked players coming out of HS and all you had to do was see JO move on the court to know he was going to be really good. Even late teen early 20yo I was always like WTH are they not getting playing time ??
if you’re going to draft them, play ‘em
They both showed what they were made of when they got playing time
Both coming out of High School I got the way they were handled the 1st seasons but after that I was always looking for them and it rarely happened because they didn’t even get on the court as often as the should have.
Tracy finally got legit playing time & roll His final season in Toronto but He still was not utilized anywhere near what He should have been
Could have had cousins balling out together but Toronto blew that
They both went on to have amazing All Star HOF level careers
Even after their 1st 4 seasons almost being waisted away

I admit to my own whiff: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. I was SO excited when the Blazers drafted Jermaine O'Neal, because I thought that he could be another Shawn Kemp or Kevin Garnett. Like everybody at a younger age, I was so impatient, and after 4 seasons of barely playing and scoring in Portland, I called him "DNP-CNP: Does not play, because he cannot play." In 2000, rumors had the Blazers trading O'Neal to the Bulls for the #4 pick, and then the Blazers could have picked a superstar like Marcus Fizer, Chris Mihm, or Jamal Crawford. I actually wanted the SONICS to get Jermaine O'Neal, as he would have been PERFECT for us! Jermaine definitely turned into a star! I WISH that it could have happened for Portland or Seattle.

Could you imagine the 2000 Sixers lead by Allen Iverson and Jermaine O’Neal? Especially if they kept Larry Hughes too and rolled out a Larry Hughes at PG, AI at SG, Aaron McKie/John Salmons at SF, Keith Van Horn at PF, and Jermaine O’Neal at C.
Or even a Jermaine O’Neal at PF and Dalembert at C would have worked with Snow still at PG.
But know we had scrubs like Kenny fuccn Thomas making big bucks.
Like all AI ever needed was a great big to play alongside him, one who was athletic and in him prime that could score too, so while Ratliff was a forgotten monster on defense he couldn’t do shxt with the ball. Dikembe either. And by the time we got Webber he was shot and could barely move despite what the numbers suggest.

Your title is disingenuous so I'll point out two things, first Reggie Miller's prime and all-star selections are linked to the fact that guards who were demonstrably better basketball players than him were active in the Eastern Conference: Jordan, who was always going to be an all star starter and then take your pick depending on the year. Reggie came into the league in '87 and played until '05, so you have Dumars, Penny, Mark Price, Smitty, A.I., Drazen, Houston, Stackhouse, Shuttlesworth, Vince, and McGrady. Which one of them was he going to edge out for a bench spot? Second, O'Neal played in the Eastern Conference when all the best power forwards were in the West. So he was going to be an automatic All star selection because the only players he had to contend with were Sheed, Vin Baker, and Kenyon Martin....not exactly comparatively steep competition.

If Bruce Allen mess up big time trading him. I remember Scottie Pippen in interviews, we have guys on the court who can really play who not getting min. Should have kept should have him with Sheed. Should been Ben Wallace & Sheed with offense duo. As Sabonis was aging smh. Also, why u didn't mention blazers was robbed in that game vs the Lakers,🤔
