If ur going for big power yes 113 is better anything under 400whp it’s negligible and I also prefer the mk6s ride and feel over the 5 that just cuouof be I went from a 4 door mk5 to a 2 door mk6
As a mk5 Jetta owner I really enjoy videos like this :) I would add that a common issue for the mk5's and mk6's is for sure electronics - door wiring harnesses, switches, power window motors, door lock actuators, inside air flow motors - flap openers, etc. I should know, my jetta has 375k kilometers at the moment and I had it for 5 years :D But nevertheless, stunning cars, if you have arms and a bit of knowledge + youtube, and aftermarket parts, you can get anything done for a couple of quid. I imagine that if you would go to the mechanic for those issues, it would be costly, but if you like doing stuff then these cars are for you! +Basically all parts are available in a wide range of prices
Here's a buyers guide. Mk5 is better. Tfsi EA113 is much more reliable than the mk6 1st gen EA888. The mk5 provides much more feedback due to the gen 2 steering rack.
After owning both i much prefer the mk6 everyday and is probably a bit better to mod the mk5 has the timeless front end and is easier to make big hp numbers out it’s fsi then the mk6 tsi
Good. But the ED35 is also a EA113 engine. And the picture of the EA888 is a picture of a CDL engine from the 6R and ED35. Also ED35 beeing the CDL engine has the K04 and stronger internals like S3 and 6R and with just a map they go up to 300bhp. Cheers
Thanks for the comment. Apologies we should have been clearer when referring to the CDLG engine code (our mistake for mentioning the EA888 before the CDLG engine code) this is also why a ED35 engine image appears as it should be mentioned first, however the American market had the EA888 from 08' and so that has ended up being spoken about first, leaving space for confusion in our description. Thanks for mentioning it, we appreciate it as it helps clarify it for others 😁 and yes they take power upgrades well 😁
Do you notice any major differences between the steering connectedness or responsiveness in the mk5 vs mk6? Mk6 seems more reliable as an overall package, but I'm wary of the mk6 steering feel.. the mk7 totally lost the magic for me and im wondering how the mk6 feels
The mk5 has good steering as long as the suspension and bushes etc are not worn out. The mk6 gti did feel slightly sharper to me when I was able to compare both i owned at the same time but I was comparing a 2011 car vs a 2006 car. The mk5 gti is just an older car so if the maintenance is kept up it’s just as reliable as the mk6 gti.
Thanks your video was very helpful. What would you choose as a weekend fun car that’ll do little miles? The 5 or the 6? I had a big bumper 16v and that was probably the best car I’ve ever owned 😊
Weekend fun I’d probably go for a MK5, it will almost always need a bit a work (common issues from the guide) but that’s ok if you don’t rely on it daily, my main concern would be rust spots, worth spending a bit more of someone has proof they’ve had the common areas sorted 👍
Volkswagen is the best cars I had after Toyota you just don’t buy any ( 1.4 tsi 1.4 tfsi) (1.2 tsi 1.2 tfsi) motors because those ones are trash and most importantly is the service on time . I would recommend any 2.0 tsi/tdi with the DSG automatic gearbox it’s just great 👍 cars anything thing above the 2.0L you need to understand that it will cost a lot on ⛽️ gas
I experienced drumming from the rear wheels and uneven tyre wear. All checked out with no faults but most off-putting. Had the same on my 7.5GTD Anyone else?
They’d rather take the standard mk6 gti over the edition35 they smokin crack??? So he’d rather a mk5 ed30 over standard mk5 but the mk6 ed35 is worse than the standard mk6 gti. This makes no sense whatsoever.

MK6 is such a handsome car till this day !
Agreed 😁
Shame it’s got such a shit engine mk5 Gti engine way better
I've had my MK5 for 2 years, absolutely love it
Thinking about trading my Polo 6c gti in for a mk5 gti
Mk5 gti hands down. It's such a fantastic all-rounder. I have owned mine for 7 years. Great fun.
How reliable has yours been? Looking to buy one to daily
is it reliable?
@@Tino-kc9bdif kept up on maintenance
Hands down the MK5 with its EA113 is much better. There’s a good reason VW held onto the timing belt for their first R model.

Have had my MK6R for 2 years with an APR stage 1 tune. Best $400 I have ever spent. 315hp 320 torque. Amazing car.
