Fend is now a beautiful skill, I'm glad to see you enjoy it too, ginger. What I did was rebuild my faith bowzon into a hybrid, bow and spear. I play SSF exclusively so zods are a problem, and the only one I got so far went to an eth berserker axe (and rolled 394ed!). So I gave her an eth sundan and it is a won-der-ful build, one of the best hybrids in the game. Both faith gmb and hone perform *very* well with the split points. Gear is fort (essential for these builds), gore, highlords, loh. Might reapers merc. Melts p8 Baal, which was always slow with the bow. And I actually really like the knockback from her giant skull when using the spear. With its long range, she hits monsters even when they are pushed away. Damage is not as high as botd, but it's still a 10k+ max fend before crits, and 70% crushing blow makes up for the difference. Speed is similar too. And if all that wasn't enough, on swap she has 6k strafe/multishot and even freezing arrow for crowd control. It really is amazo-ing lol. Superfun to play, literally 2 in 1. Steel pillar also works well by the way.
@@ArthursAtmangive it a try, even if you don't have faith or eth sundan. Heck I'm sure the build would do very well p3+ with upped lycanders bow + spear, upped witchwild + ariocs, harmony mb + steel pillar... so many cool combinations!

I'm a freakin Viking, is what I'm saying lol...want to smesh with physical prowess. My thanks for your insights on this score.
How are physical javazons? I know the damage would definitely be lower and you can't get runewords in javelins. I have played a LOT with a Lightning Strike Javazon in melee and with only minimal investment in Jab I'm able to stay alive and grind down groups of enemies trying to take me down. I wonder how good the character would be investing in physical damage skills and gear instead of the lightning damage.
Physical damage the ghost spear is better, Highlords is mostly a waste since I already have nearly 100% Crit, and yes reapers on the merc could be useful.
@@amfitness5598 nope. I looked after it and calculated with Futureal. Eth Matriarchal Pike (with +3 skill) has the best dps. You need to calculate +4 to fend (3 from pike and 1 from highlords). This is 40% ED that tops ghost spear and war pike.

maybe in SSF or something I would agree, but Zod runes are actually quite easy to trade for in non ladder or ladder. they are considered quite cheap tbh. There are other budget options like, Hone Sundan Yari (Eth)
Also Steel Pillar, which is indestructible too and has crushing blow. And Ariocs hits *hard* and fast and is easier to find. Gives you 4+ skills as well.
Mr Ginger im look your video from eth tomb reaver and i need it so can you cell me perf eth and im ready to pay you 12x 20/5 scs life+res its all worth around 500 jah Tks
Fend needs a Rare spear that rolls just the right stats, BOTD is weak. If its "just right" the Fend can just about Fend off an infnite sea of cows and never die, I tried on 1,000x cows. It works...but only with the "just right rare" all runewords/uniques cant get close to that
Extremely Rare Item, that you will likely never find in a run, or even a ladder season unfortunately. But yes Extremely well rolled rares can challenge anything.
@@GGMentor what stats? I assume 300% damage, ethereal, self-repair, and maybe crushing blow? plus idk resist-all or something? sounds vanishingly unlikely.
Fend works incredibly well with all the "regular" items (botd, sundan, steel pillar, ariocs, and even upped lycanders). You don't need a trophy room ghost spear. Although I'm looking for one. This game is minmaxing hell and that white whale that ginger just described would be bis.
If I make a spear zon I will prolly have the javelin on back up with minor points into like plague javelin or something I can switch to with a good shield in case shits to heavy hitting for a moment kind of like a reprieve plus you can take out physical immunes.
