That word you used...that one word sums up this entire situation...visceral. This is a textbook example of humans getting that foodchain reality check, in the most brutal of fashions.
That Tiger shark chasing something like turtle right up to the shoreline really alarmed me. The thing was close to practically beaching itself to get it's prey. Edit: it was chasing a stingray, not a turtle.
Orcas weigh more than GWS’s, and they’ll go right up to the beach to get seals. So why wouldn’t sharks? They might not get completely out of the water like an orca would, because orcas breathe air, but you’d better believe a shark goes as close as she can to the shore to get food.
It blows my mind that you can get attacked in 2 or 3 ft of ocean water, like this lady. But, Australia has huge maneaters. I would never step into the ocean there. No matter what. Especially after seeing the predation attack of Simon Nellist by a pregnant female great white in Sydney. That was horrific. Never thought I'd EVER see that happen to a person.
I love your productions, Hal, because you bring (safe) adventure into my life. My brother is a commercial fishing captain in Pt. Judith, RI. Before these creatures became endangered species some years ago, my brother tells me they might jump off the boat for a refreshing dip in the afternoon. Now, he tells me that he doesn't know a single fisherman who will put his toe in the water there are so many sharks around...today, with all those seals, you can have Cape Cod, I cannot believe I used to swim out there...g-g-good g-g-grief!
Isn’t it mad how people see the same attack but give quite different versions of events. Mainly the same, but they can be adamant about some of the details. So very sad for her family and friends, and horrific for the bystanders and locals too. I know it’s nature, but it gives me shivers! 😵💫

16 footer in shallow water is uncommon but very possible. In Jaws-land, Cape Cod Massachusetts, whites are commonly found cruising in salt water estuaries only a few feet deep. If there are little to no waves, they can actually beach themselves it’s so shallow, especially along the coastline. What’s worse is the seal population is booming back in large numbers and this brings in the Whites, it doesn’t help either that on clear days the water remains dark and foreboding.
What a horrible story 😞 RIP to this woman who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The man who retrieved her torso must have nightmares. On another note, a man was attacked in SoCal this week, and luckily survived 🦈

Hi Hal. Great show, you never disappoint. YESTERDAY (6/7/24)- There were 3 shark attacks at Destin beaches. 2 women are in critical condition with lost limbs, the other woman sustained a bite to the foot. The attacks happened in waist deep water, and the injuries these victims sustained had to have come from a very large shark. We have been seeing great whites here in the Panhandle. Also, a pod of Orca were spotted 75 miles off Destin. That is very rare indeed.
Update, a 14 foot hammerhead was spotted in the area cruising to Santa Rosa Island. They are not sure if it is the shark responsible, however, highly likely. There are bull sharks that cruise the sandbars.

That sounds more likely. I have a hard time imagining a 16' pregnant great white that's "as big as a whale" attacking and killing a person in 3 feet of water. Makes no sense.
It was 100 percent a bull shark, I'm local to the area and there has never been a recorded sighting of a white pointer that far up the system, however bantry Bay is a well known bull shark breeding ground.
There is always an element of over exaggeration and under estimating in these cases. 3ft is shallow, real shallow for a 16ft GW. Let alone a pregnant one. Imo, no such thing as mistaken identity. These sharks want you out of their territory or to consume you. That is it.
This reminds me of the story Hal told about the Korean lady that got eaten by a 20 footer in front of the whole village while clam farming in 3 ft of water in the 1950s the whole back of the shark was exposed out of the water .

My grandson and I were fishing the surf/beach at our condo, and were having various luck catching, whiteing, hardtail, ladyfish, a nice slot Redfish through the week, until Thursday night we started catching the pesky little worthless catfish that sting like hell if you have the unlucky fortune of being finned by one. The surf really calmed down the next morning (yesterday June 7th 2024)and at 5:am we were fishing. Our first fish was a small black tip shark, and the next two and only fish we cuaght were small Bull sharks. I had a heart pounding short fight with what I'm fairly cartain was a Bull or Black tip shark at least 50 lbs or more . After that, nothing. As we were on our way home (Tennessee) my daughter called and informed me about the two shark shark attacks on beaches not far from where we were fishing. It seemed strange that all we caught yesterday were shark, after the seas had calmed from 2 to 6 foot seas to almost what I call "lake wake" conditions and then the 2 shark attacks occured about 30 miles down the road from us.Thought I'd mention this.

@rawdog314 search tiger shark attacks middle harbour. Of course, tigers would be in there. I'm sick of "old timers" trying to say this, or that isn't in said waterways. I just came back from the far south coast and had old-timers tell me bullsharks aren't in the rivers down there. Of course they are lol
I was just in Myrtle Beach, SC for a week. I went into the water one time, up to my hips, for about 5 mins. My son is a Student Pastor and he baptized two of the teens in our church group, and I was there to take pics. As soon he was done, I was out of that water! 😂 I used the pool at the house the rest of the week! I am more afraid of those sharks, than they are of me! LOL!
120 per year is a lot. Keep protecting sharks and it's going to get much worse. I do it here and yes, sharks do what they do. Which is eat, and bite. Swimming in any saltwater is a gamble.
"jumping out of the water" because it was trying not to get beached while turning around with it's catch, flopping around on it's side is more likely than a predatory breaching in 3ft of water
Have you compilated how many shallow water attacks have occurred? I think it is fascinating and horrifying that many victims seem to be attacked in the shallows...
I read a news article from 1942 on the incident and it claims she was 10-12 feet away from the group that was in waist deep water, so she was probably in 5 foot deep or more which would explain how a huge great white was able to grab her by the leg and pull her under. Still terrifying but I doubt a 16 feet great white would be able to grab you in 3 foot deep water.
Yep that's a popular area to get kilt by a shark from what I remember. I think that 60's(?) actress got it on the other side at Flatrock Beach if I remember right. And there was another just to the south in Sugarloaf Bay, I believe...

Thank you Hal.
LOL!
What a horrendous attack!!!😳😳😳😳
Missed yuh, sir!
Mechanic screwed up my engine today but hallelujah for Hal!!! I'm so happy a new video posted I just forgot about it 😁
Well i guess we can all agree she got bitten in half...
Just read about this attack, it says it was a four metre bull shark that attacked Zieta!
It was a bull shark, probably exaggerated the size slightly, my guess it was a 11/12 footer
120 per year is a lot. Keep protecting sharks and it's going to get much worse. I do it here and yes, sharks do what they do. Which is eat, and bite. Swimming in any saltwater is a gamble.
The minute you step foot in the water Regardless of how deep it is, You have entered their world, And now you play by their rules.
Thanks hal❤im always looking for your ahows
"jumping out of the water" because it was trying not to get beached while turning around with it's catch, flopping around on it's side is more likely than a predatory breaching in 3ft of water
3 ft of water??? 16 ft GW?? Howwwwww? Aren’t those things 3 ft tall from belly up anyway?
There were 3 seperate shark attacks in florida just now. All in the same day.
Go figure Australian waters...
Great show hal that's one scary story bitten in half
