I’m usually really bad at anything with cables but this was great
Thank you
I finally got my Garmin Striker 4CV the other day, along with a Nocqua battery, and these instructions were spot on. You simplified everything and, most importantly, you showed up close where things go. It literally takes less than 5 minutes to get it set up and completed. I love your useful videos.
Glad you enjoyed and found them helpful...enjoy your new FF and battery
I did this for mine. If I can do it anyone can do it! This makes it so much easier than lugging around the battery that comes with it.
It is a great battery and with the right adaptors, I charge phones, cameras, and even ran a small camping fan
I like it because it last so long. Plus it has that long wrap on it that let's me velcro the battery to my thwart.
Nice job. Thanks for putting this together. Have the same setup ready to be assembled. Fish on!
It honestly has been great, well worth the extra cost IMO
that’s an amazing battery! so cool~ everything u need in one 😮
I love it, plus it can power many other things..not just fish finders...any USB device
Great video as usual! Only thing I'd do different is test the power right after crimping both wires before shrinking the tubing. Just to be sure it works and if it doesn't you don't have to waste the shrink tubes.
Great tip
You are a pro with the garmin striker. Nice battery set up too.
Thanks 👍 I love it and have been super happy with mine.
Set up looks easy as pie. Thanks
It is!
Well done my friend great video
Thank you 👍
Great work!!!
Thank you so much 😀
I enjoy watching buddy
Glad you enjoyed, Thank you
Good information.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you
Thanks!
Thank you for your support :)
Man what a legend
Made my day :0
Thanjs
Thanks
Do you place the nocqua in a watertight box or anything? Love your tutorial and followed it to a T, just trying to sort out now what to do with the exposed wire area past the fuse holder. Was planning to separately tape blue/brown for future data transfer needs, and then use electrical tape over the exposed wires. Thanks!
I do not use a box for anything, the battery is already sealed. I just shrink wrap and tape the exposed wire areas...also look at the liquid electrical tape as it works great as well.
Great video. What we do with the other 2 cables ( brown and blue)? Leave them free?
Here is a video on what they are for ua-cam.com/video/IOWPj2Rxyrc/v-deo.html
You can leave them free, but I would tape or cover them, just to protect them some.
Thank you for this video. Mine wasnt working and it turns out it was because I was crimping right in the middle and not the sides.
Glad it helped and you are good to go now...good luck on the water
Would you recommend the 4.4ah version of the nocqua paired with the stricker 4cv? What run time should i expect with such a setup
I get multiple trips with my 10ah and thats the fishfinder and a camera. I suspect you should easily get a day at least
About to install my Striker Plus 4 but everything I read from Garmin is to use a lead acid battery and not lithium. I'd love to use a lithium battery and everyone else seems to but I'm unsure. Good videos!
Talked to Garmin, they said a properly sized lithium is fine. They just don’t suggest power tool batteries which some people use. FYI but I’m sure most people already knew what I didn’t know for sure.
Yeah the Lithium are fine and know tons that run the big ones on their boats without issue. They definitely save space and weight. I would agree to stay away from the tool battery route, it works for some, but not worth it for me IMO
What’s the price of this battery conversion? How do you mount this package in your boat? After a day of fishing how long is the recharge cycle. This locator comes in a few different models. Can you explain the difference and which model is the best bang for buck.
I’ve been watching you for about year and think I’m going to get one this year.
Thanks.
The battery is about 125.00
I use Velcro or small bungees on my kayak...even have just left it sitting in the floor.
I would say it takes 2-6 hours charge time depending on how low.
As far as models, depends on your needs. Down Imaging? Mapping? Contour lines? Lakes? Rivers, Streams and Creeks?
Can you use a two pin power connector to connect to the striker 4? Is the 2 pin power cable from garmin plug and play with the striker 4?
Requires the 4 pin, they are pretty cheap on Amazon...I think less than $20.
This may be a silly question but is there any way to power up that Garmin Striker 4 from a USB source (computer, power bank, etc). Is there a Garmin (or third party) adapter that would allow for such a connection (USB to 4-Pin)? Thanks!
I am unaware of a way to power it via USB
Quick question. Just purchased a hobie passport 10.5. This is my first fishing kayak and I’m excited to get this set up! What would be the best fish finder you would recommend for the hobie passport? Thanks again!
Assuming since you went Hobie, you fish more open waters...the real question would be what type of fishing do you do, and what type of budget...then we can find a good fishfinder fit.
@@1Cast1Fish sorry I’m just responding! I fish a lot of Ohio lakes and I bought the hobie because it was a buddies and I couldn’t pass on the price for a pedal drive. I ended up with the striker vivid 4CV. I should be able to pause the ClearVü and mark a brush pile as a way point correct?
I believe you can...not 100% since it's not in front of me.
The Vivid 4CV is a great choice, especially with the ability to map contours in your lakes.
@@1Cast1Fish yep I figured out you can. I’m just now trying to figure out. If there’s a way to tell how close you are getting to a way point. Ex. 60 yards from way point. Would make fishing the spot a little easier without being on top of whatever is marked. Ha ha
Garminn Striker 4CV
Hey brotha. Was wondering if you can help. Setting up my striker 4 its giving me a message of the transducer is disconnected, power down and check transducer connection to enable sonar. Im confused bc everything is connected. Do you know what it could be?
So here is some things to try
1. Ensure Power cord and transducer cords are in correct spots on fish finder
2. Check transducer input on fishfinder has no bent or broken pins
3. Ensure transducer cable is fully inserted into fishfinder.
4. Possible transducer issue
I got everything wired up and working appropriately, but what is the purpose of the blue and light brown wire?
ua-cam.com/video/IOWPj2Rxyrc/v-deo.html
Data Transfer
I didn't notice what you did with the brown and blue wires.
I normally just wrap them and then tape them up. If you want to know more about these wires...watch this weekend :)
ua-cam.com/video/IOWPj2Rxyrc/v-deo.html
tks, but the other 2 cable (black and blu) where did you connect them?
I believe you mean Blue & Brown...they are communication wires for sharing data between fishfinders.
ua-cam.com/video/IOWPj2Rxyrc/v-deo.html
@@1Cast1Fish So, what do we do withese two wires if we wont ever communicate to other finders?
How do you find the thermocline in the water column with a striker 4 vivid?
So first you have to have a thermocline...many bodies of water do not. Next it will look like a thin line of clutter in the water column and many times you will see increased clutter below this line as well but not always. Fish should be above the thermocline.
@@1Cast1Fish almost all lake where i fish have a thermocline. Im in WA. And i fish for Kokanee(land lock salmon). So being able to find the thermocline is important.
How long does this battery typically last when on the kayak and using this fish finder
The 10Ah has lasted days for me.
What did you do with the last 2 wires on the garmin?
You can cut and tape them up if you like, they are for data transfer. Check out this video to explain
ua-cam.com/video/IOWPj2Rxyrc/v-deo.html
What kind of run time should I expect with this battery on a Garmin STRIKER Vivid 4cv?
I usually get at least 3 days out of the battery before I charge it
@@1Cast1Fish thanks! That would be plenty for me.
Is it the same process for the normal Garman striker 4? And can I use the 4.4 ah on it or should I get the 10ah?
Yep exactly the same. The 4.4 is fine for day long trips for the fishfinder, but if you multiple trips or plan to power other accessories from it as well while you fish, I would go 10
@@1Cast1Fish do the extra power cords come with the 4.4ah or no?
If you order the pro power kit, yes it comes with everything you need
You mentioned needing wire strippers but I didn’t see them used in the video, so maybe I don’t need them? Also, do you think I could use a lighter in place of a torch?
Love your videos man
Also, which size crimper did you use?
So depends on the wire...some may already be stripped back a bit...look at about 1:46 this is what it should look like, if not then you need to strip back the insulation to expose the bare wire. I have used a lighter, torch, and honesty the best is a heat gun...just be careful and use slow even heating.
amzn.to/4coWAjT
This is the crimper I use, it is a bit expensive, but it is a good reference. You can see the pics that the jaws have color codes...these match the crimp colors...they are all a standard. Honestly if you have no other need, any crimper will work just to crimp it down a few times.
Thanks for the input, your videos have helped me immensely. If Garmin isn’t paying you, they certainly should be!!!
@@lukasfalk2522 Glad you find the videos helpful :) Thank You
How many hours does it run with sonar and screen on?
Lasts me a few days easy
How long will it run with that 10ah battery?
Couple full day trips in my experience without issue
I am running a garmin striker 4 with a eseegoo 12v 9 ah (20hr) battery but it dies out within 2 hours. Should I get the nocqua batteries
I would say the battery is a dud...or some major issues are going on...my 10ah gets me a few days of run time. I have been very happy with my Nocqua.
@@1Cast1Fish thanks for the reply. I'll get a new battery looking at the expert power for now then upgrade to nocqua
Any new battery should be better
@@1Cast1Fish new battery fixed it. Fished for 3 hours today an stayed above 13v.. thanks for the help still learning the striker 4 most water I fish is less than 10ft.
Glad you got it figured out :)
How long battery life?
Depending on settings I normally will do 2-3 trips without charging with no issues...and I run the camera off of it as well as the FF.
Any idea what the service life of this battery is?
Mines going on 4+ years with no issues
@1Cast 1Fish, how long does your battery last with a full charge?
I got the 4.4ah nocqua battery and I’m unsure if it will power the unit for long enough. Hopefully at least 7 hours. Do you think it would last?
Mine is 10ah, but it lasts multiple days powering the fishfinder and camera. I would think the 4ah should get you through a 8 hour day, probably more.
Have you had any problems where it will come on for a minute and just shut off? I've used mine once and that's what's happening
No I have not...have you double checked the connections? Does the FF show good voltage when it is on? Can you try another battery?
@1Cast1Fish the battery is new and I've only used the fish finder once and at the very end of the day it started to shut off
Have you tried it since? Sounds to me like a possible low voltage issue....especially if it turned on then ran for a few then turned off again. What size battery and how long a day running?
@1Cast1Fish battery is a 12volt 7amp battery and right off the shelf. Think it's the power cord now but I gotta take it some place to see if they can help test it lol. Called 3 places and they were like what? Lol going to dicks sporting goods is like going to Walmart asking for help
Just asking, but did you charge it fully before using? That battery should be good to go.
I have never tried testing the cord. Might try attaching the cord to the battery and checking voltage at the pins on the adapter.
How long do the battery last?
When I fish, I fish the whole day and I have yet to kill my battery. And I have a Garmin 7SV. Love this battery
You'll get about 9 usable hours out of it. It's lithium ion, not lithium iron phosphate.
For the garmin striker 4, on paper it’ll last 25 hours.
The garmin striker 4 has a drawing power of .4a so 10/.4 = 25
I use it all day and have 0 issues, even used it 2 days...about 8 hours each without issue.
Sounds like time for a TEST :)
Like all the other peeps on here are saying. I fish 6-8 hours a time. I get a couple of days before I need to charge up.
Just installed, powered and set up. Went to turn on the clearview setting and it says the transducer has no power. Wtf M i doing wrong
If the fishfinder powered up, the likely issue is the transducer...is the transducer attached?, is the transducer cable installed correctly?, any broke or damaged pins?
@1Cast1Fish they sent me a new transducer is did the same thing. Then they asked for the unit number to then figure out it was a bad unit lol. Don't think I'll see it for 2 weeks lol. Just my luck
@@sethscott4211 Hope they get you a new one quickly so your not without to long, they normally seem to ship stuff fairly quick in my experiance.
I don't get why the garmin striker does not comes with a built in battery and a usb charger port, see I am going to brazil for fishing, and everything there is 220Volts unless I also get a transformer, I won't be able to charge the nocqua battery, so just to use the fish finder in brazil I need the divice, a battery and a 220v to 110v transformer, they should make the fish finder with a built in battery and a usb port charge, just like every phone. so this way I can charge anywhere in the world.
I know you can email recommendations to Garmin on the website.
Thank you for video!
I know wiring but I just never ordered my battery yet. I have a Yakattack mount, quick connect, 4" rail transducer Switch blade and a Garmin Striker plus 4 for my kayak 🛶
Sounds like your about set and ready for some fishing. Good luck
