Them and Tetrachromat are the only bands I’ve heard with similar drumming styles that give me that unravelling vibe on subsequent listens. I’m still discovering new things in Thornhill and Tetrachromat tracks :)
100%. I pickup on different sounds from each member each time I listen. They do hit us with the heaviness and all that but as you said, they seem to be all about the attention to detail and making it sound unique. And they nail it. Seriously talented group of lads
@@stormexon8665 Basically you have to mic a drum set or trigger it to produce a recording of live drums. Most people program their drums because it's easier to not only produce a steadier even (dynamically speaking) sound, but its also more cost effective and requires less engineering to produce a punchy sound. I have a few songs on my page with some banging programmed drums for comparison. Also programming drums doesn't take away from the drummer. If you have someone who can throw down on whatever you can think up than by all means who really cares...not the listeners!
These playthroughs are making me really want them to release an instrumental version of the album. Jacob's vocals are amazing but there is so much hidden detail that is now clear.
God, this album is a masterpiece. So cool to hear it from an instrumental perspective, even though Jacob sings so beautifully. Really hoping for a guitar playthrough of this entire piece as well. Easily my favorite part of the album. I love Thornhill!
Giorgos Tsak it’s hard to realise when you listen to the songs, but I watched the Nurture guitar play through and was in awe. They’re insanely talented.
Scott Jennings depends on how you define impressive. If you meant technical, then no... But do not mistake, this IS extremely impressive musicianship. The sound they create together is awe inspiring.
Ben Maida, You magnificent *THICC BOI* bad ass drummer you. I can't get enough of these two tracks. Especially when he plays that little fill at 00:56. 🤘
I believe the drummer's name is Ben Maida who has been with the band since their beginning in 2015. (Not that you would know from the description). By the way, great job Bro!
Cookedaburra immediately stood out. What a beautiful sound and accessible playing, but plays with style and feel. Plays heavy, plays soft. The kid behind that kit deserves more praise than we could ever dish. I want more Thornhill. This is one of the best metal albums I’ve ever heard.
The drums during the breakdown in Reptile off their previous ep slap to high heaven. Incredible production and performance. Hits you right in the chest.
@@jimberjamber8540 oh fuck yes, the musicality that he plays with is refreshing. The way those ghost notes highlight that groove in Reptile is orgasmic

You're the real mvp! But unfortunately that's not what we're hearing in this playthrough. It's all either sample replaced or just miming over top of the album stems.
This Band is literraly the Definition of perfection, the whole Sound and atmosphere of their Songs and the vocals, that is really the best ive ever Listen to!!! Keep on killing it guys!!!!
Today at work, I was listening to Void of Vision on Spotify, jamming as I normally do. I decided to search related artists and came across Thornhill. I’ve heard their music before but today, I heard for the first time, Lily and the Moon. This song is simply badass! I have to be able to “feel” a song. Sometimes, the music I listen to is difficult to understand lyric wise but it’s always about the beat. This song has that beat.
This transition at 4:30 gives me the goosies and when it comes back in is great too! The vocalist has such a unique sound I think I’m close to (but probably not lol) that I can’t help but belt it out every time
Damn this video popped up in my recommendation and I thought this is pretty good post-rock/post-metal then I found out they have freakin awesome singer. What a great find!
É incríveil o quanto ele extraí de um kit relativamente simples. Tipo, ele usa exatamente o que precisa, e o faz com maestria. Um grande baterista! Saudações do Brazil! 🤘
I felt like this playthrough was gonna be nothing special for the first maybe 1/3 of the song, but it reallyyy picked up after that! Tasteful and skilled performance.
This is what happens when you get a band where all members are equally talented, this is august burns red, erra, thornhill, etc, bands that don’t release bad music, and they will all be legends
This album is still a masterpiece. F****** great drummer !!! Thanks for all the drum & guitar playthrought that make feel the album from another point of view. Cheers from Paris !!! Hope you'll be on an european tour soon...
For me this band is all about attention to detail - on the drums, vocals, guitars, everything deserves a spotlight on different listens
João Medeiros would love to see your cover of this song

João Medeiros please for the love of god do a cover of this song
I highly recommend the band Rogue for similar vibes and attention to detail in their song-writing
That snare sounds like a heaven.
It's a midi replacement, most likely from GGD or Superior Drummer. Notice the kit or the cymbals aren't mic'd.
E L S E W H E R E I don’t think this is live though
@@theshep2.037 That's what I was getting at.
I always see people talking about drums not being Micd. What's the difference? Just curious trying to learn more about this stuff.

An Instrumental Album has been released. I hope you'll find it
@@insanedriver9732 haha yeh thanks.
Lilly and the moon one my favs of 2019🔥💞🤘
The amount of times I have rewatched this. Please get some more content of his druming!!
With how good the vocals and guitar is on this album, it’s easy to overlook how good Ben is here. Underrated.
Bassist 8s really overlooked

you’ve got the instrumental album now!
Thanks?
That little smile and focus he has from 4:00 to 4:06 has me feeling good tonight.
Nice playthrough but can we mention this:
their instrumentals dude, they come from another world and I freaking love them!

Ben Maida always has such a groove.. and makes it look easy. 😎❤️
I clicked so fast I didn’t even notice I clicked. Fucking stoked to see this play through!! Killer drummer 🥁🥁
This drumthrough deserves so much more love.. Ben is a king he's got such a clean style
Lily and the Moon might be my favourite Thornhill track yet, which surprises me because Lavender gives me life. Absolute banger.
sooooo goood itd be awsome to get an instrumental version of the dark pool

I discovered this band last year and their album THE DARK POOL has a special place in my heart.
I discovered them in 2021 and did a deep dive in 2022.
I’ve never felt this bad for discovering a band this late ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I fucking adore this song, so much to love about this track. Literally singing along to this play through
Album of the year!
I see that Deadlights shirt too, Sugarcoated Psychosis was a banger 🤘
I don’t even play drums but dammit watching drum play throughs makes my heart so happy
One of the best albums of the year.

The ambiance in this track is so beautiful
A master in his craft, Holy fuck. Dude has a unique flow. 🔥
Ben's grooves are so good
My favorite transition ever... so peaceful and mellow then just straight blasts. Listen to it probably everyday

I get chills listening to that intro.
I just found this band about a week ago. love it!
🎙IF THERE'S ANOTHER WOOORRLD I WILL MEEET, YOOOUU THEEERREEEEE🎤

Wow he's fantastic. So much nuance, yet so cohesive. Incredible!
These ghost notes are sick
The ones on the track or the ones he appears to be playing (but inaudible) because it’s overdubbed?
Je ne fais pas de batterie mais je trouve cela génial ! C'est fluide, évolutif, groovy...Vive Thornhill !
I love the subtle glance at the camera at 4:52 after the section that starts at 4:07, he looks right at you as if to say "yeah that's fucking right"

I love this song and Thornhill so excited to see them again next month with Northlane, Invent animate and Windwaker.
