I'm just gonna be real for a second. No mere mortal can play along with this. Respect to II for being a God among men on the kit. 💪
This was fantastic thank you very much. I watch popular drummers, but this time i was surprised at the offbeats
Yeah sure, but what if I just don't?
Yeah, 'course we can! Is it ok if I use both hands, I'm a bit rusty?
@DrumeoOfficial play along??? 😂😂😂 Man I've been playing drums for 20 years, rock, metal and some progressive metal, but this... This is nex level out of this world drumming. II is an alien for sure 😍
patiently waiting for *II hears [insert band / song] for first time* and *II learns [insert band / song] as fast as possible*
YES YES YES
II needs to play to a track he’s never heard before!
@@ramm4life93in the other video II said Joey Jordison was one of his drumming inspirations, so unlikely!
I want to see him play The Mars Volta
someone said this on the IG post and brandon responded with 👀
@@TheCelestialClubAqua Regia is jazzy, no?
II is an absolute unit.
Fuck yeah he is. Must be mesmerising talking to him
Can’t agree more..his drumming is tight and smooth..the man is flawless🖤
Friggin’ eh bud is he ever…
II is like the Jacob Collier Drummer version! he can blend world class skills, unique creativity and fuse genres like no other drummer! he's amazing
Wait.....does "unit" mean something different than what it used to? 😂
That look to the sky after the solo and opening hits of funk, just capturing that adrenaline and ASSAULTING that last section. You can see it in his eyes. Man is FEELING it. Phenomenal playing
His accuracy and technical ability drumming is just nothing short of mind blowing!! His fills are so clean and the use of those splash cymbals is just crazy....Ive never seen a drummer play/use the cymbals as much as II...so fast and accurate...he's on top of his game thats for sure...I cant wait to see them in Boston in May...
Dude I agree with absolutely everything you’re saying here. I am very late to the party with this band. This fella is a weapon. A. FAAAAWKIN. WEAPON…
But… can’t see nothing in his eyes man 😂
I know some people are sick of ST but I think this video alone shows that these guys are seriously good musicians and deserve their flowers.
Edit: I think it's also important to know that Sleep Token in studio is just two people, Vessel and II. Vessel not only provides vocal duites, but does all guitars, programming, and handles some production. II does all percussion, including drum programming. Two people making music that sounds this big is hella impressive imo.
I think they deserve a lot of flowers too! 💐💐
Sick of ST??? how on earth does that work??
The only people sick of sleep token have no depth
@@themanwithinflatableknees8770 for some reason, elitists thing that everything that goes a little 'out' of the main genre, and also if it doesnt sounds as smth they do like, and also if it gets success, is bad. but ffs who cares😅
I can't get enough of ST, and I've been listening to them since their first album. 😅
To play that precisely, with all of the ghost notes, dynamics, every little cymbal hit, and with the FEEL that he plays with, is incredible.
Don't understand y. It's not like he wrote it first. Then played it. It's like saying, its insane how buddy rich can remember 'precisely' every rim hit precisely, with all....just insert your words here. ll is a beast of a player. He makes t drum part up to fit t song. Puts it in his brain, to body. T tab is after. Maybe in pieces, or as one, at t end of t process. Like Larnell. Or Brandon. Or every other insanely talented drummer.
@@woody4269 I think what he's saying is that this drummer is great. And very creative and with a very unique style (that's whatI'm saying anyway)
@@woody4269 bro go outside, the comment says he's incredible at drums that's it...
yep, and the creativity in his composition is also remarkable. tastefully busy.
@WizardosBoz 🤣 I live in a tent. Maybe I should go indoors a bit. Actually speak to someone would do me wonders. On topic. He's absolutely fantastic. It was only t word 'precisely' that threw me.
II's drumming is unreal. His playing is a big reason why I fell head first down the Sleep Token rabbit hole
You and me both. Was introduced to them by a friend a few months back but whichever song they sent didn't really hit so I ignored it. II comes onto Drumeo and unleashes the beast, I am suddenly and intrinsically hooked.
Make that the 3 of us!!!! Plus the fact that these guys are such talented musicians
That makes 4 of us. I'm a drummer who watches Drumeo videos and I saw this masked dude being interviewed and was intrigued and then started listening to them and immediately was hooked. His drumming vocabulary is amazing and intense. II's interview is worth checking out!
@@Thee_Man_of_Steel so f**king good ay!!!
This exactly!!!!
this drum solo should be in the studio version of the song, it adds so much to it that its almost unforgivable. I fucking love this guy! Worship
I gotta disagree..the studio version has this amazing atmospheric break and build up with lots of open space to make the finale hit even harder as it comes so unexpected
this drum solo in the live version is a great add on because
1. u dont have to worry about building up that funk part as the crowd is usually already familiar with the track and knows its coming
2. huge atmospheric parts over 1 minute can get boring for a crowd so in this scenario it is actually important to fill the space to keep the attention span
3. it proves how AMAZING the drummer is live and leaves a huge impression
so over all live vs studio are just too vastly different scenarios that need to be treated differently as the listener is looking for different things
Man, you dont see a lot of drummers do that strong of a paint stroke technique on the cymbals. Its cool to see.
This guy, and Matt Halpern, are the ones i know who absolutely own it
Bryce Butler is a young up and coming metal drummer that does. I say up and coming, the guy is already amazing.
This guy is the reason why I like Sleep Token's songs so much.
same
Agree, that's the beauty of this band though. Everything just works soooooo damn well together. Everything compliments. The drums, the vocals, the keys, guitars, sound design etc, they nail it like no other.
Same
No II
No Token
Same here...
The Drummoning is my favourite part of the live shows! Absolutely in awe of his style 😍
The drummoning 😭😭😭
@Mpw19 I just had to give the solo a name when he left me with my jaw dropped after seeing the debut live @ Takedown last year 😂 🥁 this video is everything 👌
I was right above him in the balcony at my show and got an awesome video of it.
It’s all trap beats wym
@jorrvaskr9963 wym wym!? Gtf 😴
Dear god that interlude solo 😮 I mean…I can’t remember a drum solo ever giving me straight chills.
Can we agree that II might just be one of the best modern drummers alive?
I can.
Easily
Given rev and joey are dead, competition has been pretty meh since then
@@lifeunderthestarstv ngl if sleep token releases another banger album ill put II with joey and rev.
@@lifeunderthestarstv ooo you've been missing out
@oksam5232 II is already with Joey, imo. personally I'd put Rev a half step below them, I have to put Clay from Polyphia up with II and Joey though
I love that he was having fun with it. Like it wasn’t 100% perfect and he was being human about it.
He is indeed tight but you can hear those slight timing oscillations that actually make the parts alive and breathing. In a world of fake, overquantized performances, this to me is "humanly perfect"! I also love the fact that he leaves some room for improvisation in his playing
@@MirkoFustinoni yeah, I remember watching a video by Craig Reynolds (aka reynlord) speaking about Sebastian Lanser and he said that anyone who is so good that they can leave in tiny imperfections, they're SO good that they don't need to edit/fake it but they also care about their craft of musicianship.
Plus, it shows that you can be an absolute beast of a drummer and still make minor errors.
A drummer can either drag or rush in order to create a unique groove so most of the "mistakes" are intentional
@@ChrisDarkMentaL true this also takes tons of practic idk how you guys do it
So true
In my nearly 40 years on this planet, I never have once had my soul removed from my body, solely from watching a drummer play. I can admit that I can not say that tomorrow. II, you are an absolute monster. Thank you for your art
Let me introduce you to Danny Carey: ua-cam.com/video/FssULNGSZIA/v-deo.html
He's a monster of a drummer but listen to some of the great jazz kits and they operate the same
As he said, he's inspired a lot by Pridgen and Royster Jr. If you watch shed sessions, you'll see a lot of guys that play like that. Not taking away anything, it's a compliment as that's an unreal group of percussionists to be inspired by. There's actually a shed session with both royster jr vs pridgen I highly recommend you watch if you haven't. You'll see them both play a lot of licks you see see regularly in II's playing.
The man has good taste in percussionists for sure.
danny carey.......
@@joestewart5692 Danny Carey isn't a gospel chops style drummer. II is. Completely different kinds of percussionists.
Go watch gospel chops volume 1 or 2 with the shed session of Tony Royster Jr. vs Thomas Pridgen and 3 minutes in you'll go "oh i see what II is doing" and you'll also understand that Danny, which a great percussionist is a completely different style of percussionist.
WE NEED THIS MAN ON THE “HEARS SONG FOR THE FIRST TIME SERIES”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can definitely tell how much II has thought about each song, and how what he plays can change not only the music of the song, but also emphasize Vessels voice. You can also see how much II enjoys playing for each song.
It’s so great to see how technical II is. Two brilliant minds connected, Vessel and II. I totally understand why Sleep Token has become so popular. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens next with a new label.
They have a new label ?
@@TheRealProdigyYes, they just signed a record deal with RCA.
@@danielekenmo2886 Damn, can't wait for their next record
II is quite literally my biggest inspiration for getting back into drumming. Dude is absolutely insane
Same here! Got a simple little kit and I’m practicing everyday!
I love how in keeping these videos have been with Sleep Token's priorities. Connecting with the fans through focusing on the music and the technique, rather than any egos. Thank you Drumeo for bringing this to us!
Every single part I hear from II makes me appreciate his feel and gospel touches he puts into the band. Incredibly well shot as well
Idk how a little black void surrounded by a glowing golden kit can be vibrant and incadescent but he is.
This guy is so ridiculous! Not just his skill but also his creativity and ability to accompany the music and melody so perfectly! My new favorite drummer. Wow!
This is like my 50th time coming back to this video (i actually lost count). I watch it at least once a week. Sometimes multiple times a week. I absolutely love II's playing! The solo on is absolutely phenomenal, but I really like the beginning part also.
Same here!
I watch this at least a few times a week, and it blows me away every time. It's such a wonderful mashup of influences and styles that demonstrates how studied II is. And that solo is truly a feat of musicality *and* athleticism, if that's possible. So, so good!
That’s a man who’s not afraid of a cymbal.
II is a beast, he is so wonderful and unique that I admire his style and technical ability as a guitar player. Thanks Drumeo for making this happen. And of course, thanks II :)
Guitar player?
@@luinkazofeifa I'm the guitar player here? I said "I admire his style as a guitar player(myself). It's my second language so grammatically something might be missing, but I'm quite sure I delivered the right message :)
II is a very large part of why I enjoy Sleep Token as much as I do. The hand speed, precision, and fluidity are awe inspiring! He’s just so gat dayum crispy! Getting to see the solo was a treat. Thank you Drumeo and II. Christmas in February!
My new favorite FAVORITE drummer. Haven’t seen skills like this get noticed so genuinely in a long time.
I don’t ever want to hear this song without that drum solo again, that was fucking amazing
yea, the live version of this song fucks 😅
That snare tone is so freaking good in every single setting!!
I cant get over how good it sounds, probably the best-sounding snare Ive ever heard
I dunno how many times I've watched his solo at this point, but my god, it never gets less impressive 🤩😍
II is is unreal and the song recently hit 100mill on Spotify so congrats to the band great song
That drum solo into the funk part was so damn clean. Incredible drummer
The sound of II's kit is out of this world, as well as his technique. Can't wait to see him live
Seeing this live was genuinely one of the best moments I've ever had at a gig. II absolutely goes off on the drum solo and it's amazing.
I haven't stopped listening to ST since I discovered them back in like November, literally no other artist/group comes close to satisfying the musical itch these fellas have scratched, and a big part of my love for their sound comes from II's godly drumming. I've never even really paid attention to drums before in music, but the way he plays hooked me from the very first listen of The Summoning. I've found something that I didn't know I was missing from my life, thanks to II and Vessel. So grateful every day to have discovered Sleep Token. Worship 🙏🖤
I relate to every single word in your comment, these guys totally changed the way I view and judge music.
So cool that this here is the biggest hit Sleep Token has put out. And the song has a guitar solo and a live drum solo.
I haven't been this obsessed with a band in a long time.
God those punches in the funky breakdown at the end.
Because of Drumeo I've learned about this music band. And I'm completely hooked for the last couple of weeks and for many more to come!
For pure musicality, and technicality, II is an absolute monster on the kit. All of these fills are tasteful, while being mind blowing at the same time, a superb sense of time he has.
I know it has been said before by others, but I would love to reiterate how amazing the sound engineer/team is for micing up the kits and mixing!
Your skill has not gone unnoticed!
Absolutely gorgeous to listen to!
His skill is awe-inspiring. I'm always so impressed by him like I'm hearing him play for the first time each time I see him. I can't wait to see him live.
6:25 I think what I really love about this whole thing, is that, even here, in this studio, recording this video of a song he’s played plenty of times, he looks like he’s still having so much fun doing. That or he’s just super pleased with himself for that solo, and either option still makes me smile.
the drum monsters you guys are pulling out of the vaults is astounding
Good god. This guy is on another level.
I feel like i haven't heard such musical mastery over a set of cymbals since Peart... II just exudes a sense of knowing his instruments so precisely and selecting the right cymbals to complement each other and the other instruments playing, watching him with those cymbals was like watching someone play a keyboard or something. Really incredible
I love how this song is evolving. It is hard enough to play in its bare bones form but to play it with this kind of style adding a bunch of extra accents, ghost notes and whole extra sections. This dude is incredible canr wait to see them again in November
The way his body looks so relaxed, he controls those drums so casually it’s beautiful!
That drum solo was absolutely flawless!! I wish it was part of the song on the album
This is my biggest wish and the only thing I would change about the album
There's something so deliciously absurd about a guy in full getup just calmly and normally walking you through something.
That is maybe the greatest drum playthrough I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot. There's just so much to revel at here. He's incredible, what a musician. Amazing.
I just absolutely can NOT fucking wait to hear this live in a month. Its the first time ive been so excited for a concert.. and actually the first to go to one ive wanted to go to myself. (All other concerts were always for someone else). So im super stoked. Missed last years tour because.. well, life. But I just cant to see ii in action along with everyone else. Absolute legends.
Same in May in Mtl!
@@hardypahardypa1 enjoy the shit out of it❤️
@@mandab2909 100%!!!
I need that drum solo version of The Summoning on Spotify
He's good. Really good! There's nothing more to say. No point in trying to add ever more adjectives. Just sit, watch, and appreciate.
Mind blowing! I will never get sick of listening to ll drumming. I love getting to watch this master at his craft. Thanks drumeo.
II is the reason i was so attracted to Sleep Token, then the rest of it took me for an experience unlike no other. I appreciate what they are doing, and glad i stumbled upon them!
Just started listening to ST a few months ago. I could listen to II drum all day.
Putting an ad in the middle of this was evil 💀
jail
This man is an absolute unit of a drummer! His feel and precision, to accomplish his arrangement, is pure professionalism and talent! Bravo, sir! I hope we get more content like this!
Thank you for introducing me to a new band. Never heard of them, but now have all the albums. 👌
i just still find it hard to believe that two people this talented are allowed to exist at the same time. the rest of us never had a chance.
I don’t know the first thing about playing the drums, I’m just a massive Fan of ST, but watching 2 and hearing him speak about how he creates, this dude is special
Thank you Drumeo and especially II for bringing me back to music. It’s been a long while since I was this inspired by an artist and a band!
I couldn't even fathom how to create a drum part like that. Truly mind blowing the skill of II
That drum solo is jaw dropping! Damn..
II’s drum tone is heavenly, the tightest drummer of this generation, all hits right on the pocket
hearing this solo live back in NYC was such a treat, unreal and totally unexpected.
The fills and the feels, the dynamics, such a great perfomance 🔥
just had an eargasm.... thanks 😃👍
This guy gave me a much deeper appreciation for drumming. Worship! 🤘
You can see how much II loves his craft and sharing it with others. What a remarkable drummer and human being!!
Yep. II is top tier. I get goose bumps every time with his flow in this one. His ghosts and other techniques is unique and his own. An amaizing drummer and song in more ways than one.
ii you legend.
I just sit here shaking my head. I have never in my whole life, seen genius like II. His artistry is not of this world.
I don't say this about many songs but this one... this one is a masterpiece. Like an absolute total masterpiece of the medium. Like cinema for your ears.
“II” drumming style is superb… every note makes sense and give a lot of depth to every song!
that bit at 03:05 mans playing like a machine gun
This dude and vessel are why this band will some day be legendary.
Im totally in love with his style. Such a fresh approach. And his snare is just mind blowing 🙌
This has got to be one of the best playthroughs done on drumeo ever. II's kit sounds as beautiful and as crisp as ever.
Always getting goosebumps at the solo. This is just phenomenal!
Come on Sleep Token, just drop the Instrumental Version of TMBTE already.
I'm convinced that II is one of the most talented drummers in the world. Absolutely bonkers
Man this song hits me in the feels. Ive watched this at least 25+ times a day its just so good and i feel his emotions in the deepest part of me.
HE MAKES THOSE CYMBALS CRY! THEY SING SO BEAUTIFULLY
Drumeo I sincerely cannot thank you all enough for blessing us with this collaboration with II and Sleep Token this is a dream come true for all of us. Please o please keep them coming
this guy is insane, you don't know who he is by looking at him, but you immediately recognize him by listening to his playing.
I had a feeling that every cover I’d seen on UA-cam was doing about half of what II did on the song….and I was right
i was blown away from all the little things i noticed in this that i didn't pick up in the studio version. the drumming is what makes the intro of this song soooo iconic for me. now i want a live drumming video of every one of their songs cause this is amazing
I’d love for this to become a series of him breaking down certain songs of theirs. ii is a beast and we love him!
Well, didn't knew i could be in love with a snare
Amazing. I've never heard of this band before and now I'm hooked. This drumming is glorious!!!
One of the most creative souls on this planet. Every listening opens new doors. Rare air this man breathes.
The addition of the drum solo in The Summoning is wonderful. Watching ii play is the best way to start a day. Worship. 🖤🖤
I don’t know wtf you call what’s happening at 4:48 but it’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard. 😮💨
😂🔥
Just sheer perfection on the kit. Total, effortless fluidity. Brilliant.
I've been waiting for this for like an entire year. THANK YOU!
I wanna see Chad Smith play this song
II's and Sleep Token has restored my motivation to restart drumming.
In a way and a drive I didn't think I could feel.
I'll never beat this god but I'll reach for it! Thanks for inspiring so much of us.
