Well red hot glow plugs! I've NEVER heard of a diesel zero turn before.
We have owned 2 of these. We have the bigger diesel but they have been indestructible and the 7 iron deck is the best one on the market.

from the shoot drill a hole and run sum thick string to the height adjustment dial then you can wind it around to hold the shoot up in longer grass.NOTE BE AWARE OF PEOPLE WITHIN EYE SIGHT COS IF YOU HIT SOME DEBRIS OR WATEVER IT WILL FIRE IT ALONG WAY AND VERY FAST:)

I can’t figure out why Deere didn’t put the hydraulic lift and deck kill switch on the diesel…it’s an R but lacks those features the other R models have.

Is BUC10506 the correct light kit for this mower (Z994R)? And is it currently available? I had another dealer tell me today it is currently out of stock and unavailable. Also can you offer any insight into why the right caster arm is wider than the left on the Ztraks?
Yes, the new number is BUC10955 and they are currently out of stock. The forks are offset for optimum steering and mowing performance.
For mulching most of the time, do you recommend the Mulch on Demand or just mulch kit? Also, do you ship out of state?
I definitely recommend the Mulch on Demand or Mulch Control vs. a stationary mulch kit or mulch plug. But it also depends on your application. If you are only going to mulch and never intend to side discharge or bag, then a stationary mulch kit is not a bad option! And yes we can ship out of state! If by PTO driven you mean "shaft" driven then no, it is still belt driven. And no it is not hydraulic lift. It is the normal foot lift style.
I would like info on the belt system on the deck and the transaxles. How many belts are on the mower? How are they routed? Why are these mowers without power lift? Will this take the 72rd?
So there are two belts, one for the deck and one for the transaxles. The routing depends on the deck size you have and that is a good question on the power lift. I'm sure it was left out just to keep cost down. And yes, you can get this mower in a 72" rear discharge. If you need specific instruction on the belt routing, I can get that to you if you send me an email with the deck size and serial number on your machine to brent@west-equip.com. I am also considering Scag Turf Tiger2 due to the belt setup on them. Never had anything but Deere mowers for our own use. And mostly Deere equipment.

Yes you can you just have to replace the base as well, I believe.

They started making these for the Z9's in 2020. How old is the used mower you are looking at?

Yes but I’d recommend the twills to disperse weight and to get better traction with wet ground. Be sure to blow off the mower after you get finished.

Which motor spins blades faster, this 25hp diesel or the 37hp gasoline engine on other R models?
Great question! But I think the real question is which engine makes the deck perform better, so we may just have to do a side by side cut quality test on these two mowers! Stay tuned!

Whats the lifespan on this and the kawasaki? And why can't deere get the kawasaki efi instead of kohler?
I have seen these commercial series mowers last a very long time. It's all based on taking care of routine maintenance, keeping the machine clean, and storing it properly to reduce unwanted wear and tear from the elements. As far as the EFI goes, I would imagine it is a price issue. They are probably trying to keep price down by going with the Kohler in the EFI models. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

The Z970R is a 35HP Gasoline Model and the Z997R is a 37.5HP Diesel Model.

No, the black one does look like plastic but I just went to the back and pulled one from the parts bin and it is not plastic!

How is it on hills compared to Scag?
Good question! If I can get my hands on a Scag we will do a comparison!
I’ve never had anything but a Deere( currently z925) so I can’t speak to the Scag. But, our front pasture has several hills and I’ve never had traction issues or felt the mower become light on the up hill side of the mower. She’s got right at 1300 of farm use- cut 10 acres of 4-6’ brush the first day I had her and she never complained. I’ve also yet to replace a single part, excluding blades of course. We love “ Sweet-pea” but are looking to step up to a 72” mower and the 994 suits our needs.

Nope and they are very very did I say very Expensive mowers and the diesel is pretty crappy in this application I own one and I regret it

@@WesternEquipment Considering most all other mowers here in the US are gasoline. Parts and a decent mechanic for this machine would be hard to come by. Landscaping businesses would use the dealership for maintenance and repairs but a homeowner is not going to haul that thing back and forth and wants to do the work himself. And from what I understand these days John Deere is involved in a software hijacking class action lawsuit.
