2020 VW Tiguan Review | Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

- For 2020 the Volkswagen Tiguan adds some new standard features and tech with each trim level. This mid level trim is fairly well equipped and offers more space and a 3rd row compared to others that may be cross shopped, like the CRV and RAV4. The Tiguan handles and drives quite nice and is quiet to top that off. It's not the most powerful or most efficient, but it makes up for that with the practicality and solid build quality. What are your thoughts on the 2020 Tiguan?

Volkswagen added a few standard features on different trim levels for 2020, but they also decreased their bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty.
It's not uncommon to see the R-word (reliability) thrown around on VW videos and that great warranty nullified that for a lot of people...now with a shorter warranty does that change your mind on the TIguan?
*Thanks for watching and have a great day!*
Prime Autotainment I bought a Passat for my based on the warranty. Consumer Reports these have terrible reliability so they should have kept the warranty.
Yeah not good. The only car they sell is Golf, and even that one has sketchy reliability
I respect the fact that you showed your license plate.
Me and wife just got a 2020 Tiguan and just love it. It's our 3rd new Volkswagen. We have had a 13 Jetta,16 Passat, and now this!
That’s great to hear!
Hello Kevin , I’m thinking about buy one , do you recommend it ? I never have a problem with Toyota .
@@mikeflow we love our Volkswagen Tiguan it's fantastic especially for the price but I would say if you keep your cars a really long time I would go with a Toyota but we don't keep our cars for more than about 4 years
@@kevinwest1607 thank , I will stick with Toyota lol , I really like the look of the Tiguan 🥴
I have a 2019 SE. I agree with your points Nolan. Luckily I got in on the previous long warranty that VW offered. I haven’t really had the jerky transmission experience. I don’t ever feel like the brake pedal is soft... quite the opposite. I agree the power should be more. I also feel it’s composed in cornering as you say. The Tiguan is softer as you mentioned with the smaller tire size which i have. I didn’t like the Auto Start/Stop at first but got used to it pretty quickly. I took mine from Oklahoma to California and back and i thought it was quiet and comfortable and I love the seats also like you do. It swallows all my cargo really well. For the price paid, I’m very happy. But a more powerful engine would be nice as you mentioned.
I truly like the interior, seems to give that Audi feel. Excellent review Nolan.
Yes it does, definitely felt solid in there too! Thank ya sir, have a great weekend 👍
@@PrimeAutotainment - You too
I currently have a Passat I love my interior so much but I need more space for my family so I’m thinking of upgrading to this, I loveee the sunroof tho!
They also got rid of the golden oak two tone interior for 2020, which really upped the look of the interior.
Lovin’ it.
Leeooooo
Very nice video. Not sure what I think about about VW. My water pump went out in my 2008 RAV4 V6. It is high maintenance but fun to drive. :).
Thanks Leo! Ahh dang the darn water pump. Love that V6 though. It seems like the water pump is the Achilles heel of some Toyota’s. At least it’s not something more major though. We changed out our ‘04 Highlander’s ahead of time when we did coolant just in case...I wonder why they fail like that
Prime Autotainment This was the second water pump we have went through on this one. Lol lol lol. Oh well, that’s life.
I own a 2019 Tiguan SE 4-Motion and drove all the competitors and I love mine. No regrets
Informative
You can pull out the hand rest and raise and keep your elbow ;)
so i have the base model, i dont know why it says it has 6 speakers, the front and back doors BOTH have 2 speakers, so clue why it says 6 when i can clearly hear from all 8
This may be an ignorant question, but here goes. What if you accidentally press the electronic parking brake when you're driving at a high speed? With the good old handbrake, it's very unlikely you'll accidentally pull it while driving, but with that little button for the electronic parking break, one might push it accidentally?
I assume it works the same in every car, but in my 2019 Volvo xc40 the computer recognizes you aren’t in park and over-rides the input
@@gian_m thank you
How are the seats on the S? I know they are cloth, but are they comfortable?
Yes they aren’t that bad
To bad you americans don't get the 2.0 TDI diesel engine. It's the best engine all around 44 mpg motorway, there are 2 variants: 150 bhp and 190 bhp.
VW should put the drivetrain from the Golf R into the Tiguan
Thatd be great!
I wish they would
What time was that
I never use my 3rd row-it’s always down
Same here
I plan on using it for my god kids who are toddler sized haha. i cant imagine forcing an adult back there.
So much plastic for a premium suv such that goes for like 40k or 30k
The fake tail pipe outlets ruin it for me cheapen it
It’s not that big of a deal. I own a 2019 and get compliments all the time all over the place. Many automakers are going with these decorative trim pieces. It’s far better than going with a CVT from Honda- not that’s a deal breaker Mr Wagner.
That Tiguan is so slow compared, to as cvt rogue.
How would you rate the durability and the maintenance cost of the two (Tiguan Vs Rogue)?
No self respecting person would be caught dead in a pos Nissan.
Of course, but of course I would close the new 2022 Tucson. Beat all of em
