Excellent review once again Erick (with a CK) and the "Pulpit gang". I don't know why you would spend Kshs.3.7M on a 2017 model yet a Zero Millage VW Tiguan 2.0 All Space, 4 Motion, 8 speed automatic goes for Kshs. 4.8M, plus Warranty etc. The fear of local dealerships is our undoing as Kenyans.
Well, the Tiguan Allspace went up in price, but I don't know by how much. But yes, it makes more sense than this one. More power, more space, more seats, more reliability for around 1-2 mollion more.
I love cars yet I have not owned one. Quite ridiculous. I can sit for many hours listening to car reviews. You guys are the best car reviewers in kenya so far. As a first time car buyer, what are my reliable/affordable /durable options when it comes to: i) Kadudus? ii) Sedan? iii) compact SUVs?
Exellent review. I am from Jamaica, I had a golf and now own a Tiguan, 2017, and i think that your review is SPOT ON. I love both said models of VW; but its because i am content with driving and servicing the car delegently. If you understand the do's and don't with VW engines and transmissions, they can give you the best value for your money when bought used with low mileage (especially since you will get them below market value).
tiguan is perfect vehicle and thanks for this. i totally agree with value for money, the parts are quite expensive. common problem to look out for on a 1.4tsi is the supercharger magnetic clutch especially past 120,000km among other things. i love it.
Really Great work Erick.. I would really love if you do a review of the Mark X. I really love that car and am planing to get one but first i'll need wisdom from the carnversologist himself. THANK YOU
Erick unaoneanga VW sana na reliabilty especially the DSG transmission, it all narrows down to how you maintain and take care of your car, plus preventive maintainance is key, might a little bit more expensive but as a vw purist thats a non issue
I'm not going to be driving a boring toyota just because some random guy on youtube said vws or german cars are unreliable, tell us specific issues about these cars and the cost that comes with fixing them,,but not a broad baseless statement ati "vws are unrelaible"
Hi Joe. Any tried and tested VW garages or mechanics that you can recommend in Nairobi? We're waiting on our unit (similar 1.4TSI R-line) to arrive and would appreciate recommendations on solid mechs who can do our first service and also advice on the preventive maintenance. Thanks.
Erick Wokabi. One point to note. Eco mode is for "Ecology". Kwa logo yake unaona tu miti miti. Second, It's a premium car especially the Allspace. It's worth a buy for sure
You showed up on our timeline and we decided do watch one of your videos and I have to say you are exceptional. Excellence is pursuing knowledge to the uttermost in one's calling - and that you are. Was actually joking that someone has to hire you to inform them about their cars cos one can underutilize their car due to lack of knowledge. That being said, I don't think it is wise to go into the " Sacrament, Kanisa, altar boy" vocabulary. I know you mean well but such things are sacred to some people and so it just doesn't sit right and not wise generally.
Most convenient system alerts for me. The interior is spacious and practical, good fuel economy and just wondering if I have to sell my kidney to maintain the car...
I have never quite understood the rationale of getting a 2WD Crossover Tiguan/CX5 etc. If you'll be doing mostly town running you'd be better off with the wagon version eg. Golf Variant/Atenza and save yourself nearly half that cost.
Here in the UK VW cars are known for reliability and quality I don't understand why in kenya is not consider reliable I have had VW golf 1.4 tsi 150bhp and mileage was over 230k miles in km it 380k km
A driver's car if you like a car that handles well. Nostalgic of the days of VW Golf 3 and VW Vento. Is the cam chain driven or belt driven? This is the SUV version of VW Golf! Mind you, this car is being assembled locally in a number of African countries (e.g. Ghana, SA,) so there must be a good market for it. Good on the highway and driving around town.
Hello Erick I had previously requested for a review of VW Touran Please consider doing a review of VW TOURAN both ex japan and Kenyan used. what would one be looking out for in terms of red flags if vehicles have those and how to get value for money on one. I am considering buying one.
Touareg is a mid-size SUV, Tiguan is a crossover SUV. Touareg has more features, especially, bigger engine options than Tiguan, making it costlier. Tiguan competes with BMW X3, CX5 and Forester while Touareg takes on the big boys (BMW X5, Mazda CX9 and above). Your money is your voice when rubber hits the tarmac.
Very much concerned if you are buying 1.4 TSI Twin charge/super charged (TSI where SI are Red). It kills pistons cz of too much power output plus gearbox at 100KM gearbox component called Mechatronics dies - will cost you like 80 to 100k to repair. 1.4 Touran turbo charge (TSI where I is Red) has stable engine but gearbox you cant run away. Preferred fuel is Vpower, although you can mix; normal fuel after some time you will get engine issues......just do your research well
If you want your VW gearbox to live long, stop treating it like an automatic. DSGs are manuals that shift up automatically, but at the end of the day they need you to determine the right gear. Leave the car to it's own like an automatic and you will cry in toilet. Otherwise, these cars are as good as their owners, and one that is driven and maintained as ze German engineers intended will live long and serve you well.

2014 that's too late, been around them for almost my entire life, i still do till today, sorry to disappoint your inflated ego but VWs esp once they hit high mileage are trash it is a known fact world wide
The thing that amaze me is how you are well informed with vehicles
Why the amazement? That's what Wokabi knows about best as his channel is all about cars.
There's something called UA-cam bro Google😂he researches and saves us the trouble
Bro, I'm watching from South Africa, and I'm impressed by the in-depth review and explanation of the vehicle. Keep up the good work.

3.7 mic for a 1.4 TSI is crazy. The car has excellent fuel consumption though. Excellent review
