I haven’t seen the whole thing yet, BUT I couldn’t stop laughing at 38:30 . I’m from Chile and I was not expecting a reference to the 33 miners that miraculously survived and then were saved after months of being trapped in the mine. Anyways! I’m glad that I wasn’t the only one who liked this series! I sadly didn’t own any books, but I had a couple of comic. They were super short, like 20 pages max I think, so hearing a whole recap of all the books and seeing the amazing art has brought so many happy memories. Thank you!
I'm so glad you managed to include all the illustrations. I love David Christiana's artstyle for the Gail Carson Levine trilogy and getting to see how this franchise began was super interesting and enlightening. I loved the movies as a child and still do but they really don't seem to do justice to the books. I hope at some point Disney decides to adapt the original book trilogy into an actual high-budget film franchise, it would make so many people's lives objectively better.
I only ever read one of the books despite being obsessed with the movies as a kid. It was Rani and the Mermaid Lagoon in which Rani is dealing with basically being disabled. I had no context for it but I just remember really relating to her feeling separate from all the other fairies and lonely and not fitting in and all that. I actually didn’t remember the ending, just her struggling to find anyone who would make an effort to include her by accommodating her disability, her feeling like the mermaids don’t actually care about her or want to be her friend, them just liking the novelty of her almost, and how much that resonated with me as a kid. I was later diagnosed with a couple of disabilities and now, looking back on this book, I realize it was kind of the only time I’d ever seen my experience reflected in a book. It was very good at capturing that feeling of trying to find people that will accept you and struggling with the fact that you can’t just be like everyone else, even if you try to. Anyway shoutout to the Disney Fairies chapter books for including disability representation
Gail is one of my favorite authors, any novel i write will be for an older audience than hers tend to be, but shes a big role model of mine. I love her protagonists.
I'm a big fan of the g1 with Rani as my favorite fairy (that's probably why I'm such a drama queen) I discovered the franchise by the comic books and i didn't started reading the books until much later, i readed the quest for the egg when i was 16 and still was surprised by how much dark it was, it's obvious that Gail Carson got a lot of creative freedom while writing it because the body horror on it it's just wild, but by the other hand, her narrative about never land and the fairy world felt almost like it was written by JM Barrie himself it really feels like a legitimate continuation of the original Peter pan, even more than the official book sequel
i LOVE the gail carson levine books! read them for the first time within the last 2 years after falling in love with the tinkerbell movies in 2013ish. i am fully obsessed and want more of her books!!!!!!!!!!!! (for reference, i just turned 30 so I became obsessed with this whole fairy lore stuff fully as an adult! NO SHAME. the books are amazing)
Ohhhhh this is the content I needed for so long!! I have all of the comics (at least before they transitioned to the “second generation” characters) and I thought people forgot about the disney fairies franchise 😭 I’m so glad there’s still people who remember and have nostalgia for them ❤❤❤
Fira was also in the resin model collection of the fairies from the Disney store. I remember her, Rani, Vidia, Fawn, Prilla, Bess, Tink and several others in the collection
I love the trio of Prilla, Vidia, and Rani. Their personalities are so different but they bounce off of each other so well. It reminds me of your ragtag DnD party going on a quest.
28:15 this fantasy is definitely why the rainbow magic fairy books were so popular. like im friends with the fairies and i Also get to Be a fairy whenever i want?! literal best case scenario
It's so interesting to hear about the Disney fairies in book form, since I only knew them as graphic novel characters! I used to looove the magazines they came on, and there was always a small gift in each edition! Omg the fairies' rooms illustrations... ugh, still makes me want to live there and have a dress made of flowers!
I had two of the chapter books (Queen Clarion's Secret and Rosetta's Daring Day) and this unearthed memories I didn't think still existed in my mind, the main one being that I liked Prilla because her hair was similar to mine, which is still a surefire way to get me attached to a character lol
I once wrote an add-on in my own copy of Quest for the wand that, along with Prilla’s wish, the wand let Rani and the bat separate into two entities. I don’t have the book anymore, it’s somewhere else in the world, I hope making some kid happy. (With or without my crude addition) 🤣
I love how much Tinkerbell fucking hates Peter Pan in these books. She despises that man, tries to get him to drown himself, even. I just love that Tinkerbell holds great hatred in her heart for the dumbass man basically pretending to be a child. You can tell Gail Carson had grown up and was like "Actually, Peter Pan was kinda a creep, tbh"
Just finished the video, I want more!! This has unlocked lost memories, at first I was like “I doubt I remember the first generation of Disney fairies” but immediately when I saw the art style in the chapter books it all hit me, all the thinga-ma-bobs, and cute details in this book I had.. I still like Winx seasons 1-3, part of 4, and the world of Winx series. I can think of a few other things with girls transforming into fairies, angel friends and w.i.t.c.h are shows and fairy chronicles is a book series.
just stumbled across your video while looking for some background noise while i crochet and i was immediately HOOKED because the gail carson levine fairy books were literally my childhood, even just looking at the gorgeous illustrations again awoke so much fondness and nostalgia in me and looking back on it now as an adult, they really helped to build on my love for fantasy and whimsy and worldbuilding that i carry to this day. i just might try to dig them up from my mom’s basement and reread them 🥹
I remember how happy I was when I found ‘Disney Fairy magazine’ in local library as the only reason I watched Peter Pan was because of Tink. And I also find Peter annoying. I didn’t know any other fairies besides Tink cause I didn’t know the books/movies of them exist. So in this magazine they would talk about different fairies and I remember they were talking about Bess. And I totally fell in love with her because I also wanted to do art which was restricted in my home. And like Sarah, I always dreamt to become one of the fairies. I’d daydream that I somehow transformed in a small fairy with purple flowerpetal costume, leave the house and go far far away and become part of Pixie Hollow community and how I’d be best friends with Bess and other fairies. So yeah. One day I wish I will have my own daughter and till then I hope to collect some of the books and maybe we will share this interest together.
Ahhhh the graphic novels were originally publihed in the disney fairies magazine, yes! i had one of two issues of the magazine and i was head over heels in love with the art style and fascinated with the character design, espeically the fairies that didnt show up in the movie!
Absolutely loved everything about this video! I binged both fairy videos and have loved all of the happy fairy feelings they have reminded me of. and yes, Ranni for sure was pronounced Rainee in my head. The mermaid lagoon was the first disney fairy book i read and i distinctly remember wanting a house that was illuminated by those glowing pearls(?). They just seemed so magical. And the ART Ugh, thank you for letting us fly along with you on this journey hehe💕
i’m so happy i found this video!! i was just thinking about these books because i was looking at all the beautiful art from them and i remember i used to love the books but i couldn’t remember what happened in them
Im currently recollecting the entire tales of pixie hollow series because i have ✨adult money✨. This series was my first fandom/obsession and the utter betrayal I felt when the first movie came out and they changed so much (especially getting rid of the book cast), my little heart couldn't take it and I never watched any of the other movies. On a more exciting note, i recently found 5 of the 8 og 2006 dolls completely new in box, so now I'm on the hunt for the other 3!
For some reason, when I think about fairies, I think about the one time a few girls in my neighborhood (when I was probably 10 years old and they were) were building a little fairy house in some rock wall. Being curious and barely understanding fairies, came over and started to poke and pick up the little props they made and absolutely destroyed their house. They never talked to me again after that. Also, during that same time period, I distinctly remember my middle school library had the manga version of the Vidia crown story and 2 different fairy chapter books. I remember that because I read them.
Loveddddd this video! Such an awesome trip down memory lane. I had all these books as a kid, including two UK exclusive ones that I requested for a birthday. I was totally obsessed. I will say though, I actually really loved Lily and Fira as a kid; they were some of my favorites.
Thank you for all this Disney fairy lore and love!! Insanely nostalgic for these books. I remember the food was always described very well? And I 100% also pronounced it Rainy not Rani
So funny you posted this! I've recently been doing the same thing myself, rereading all of these books! I unfortuantely gave all my chapter books away as a kid, but I was able to find pdf copies online which was great!
Omg I gave away so many books as a kid that I regret now! And I did find pdfs of all the books but not until I was halfway done editing and I already scanned in all my books, I was so annoyed haha
I found this excerpt from In the Realm of the Never Fairies. “Pixie Hollow Deep in the heart of Never Land lies a place called Pixie Hollow. Here, extraordinary creatures known as the Never fairies live, work, and play. There are many kinds of fairies in the world, but Never fairies exist only on Never Land. Unlike their larger mainland-dwelling cousins, these fairies are tiny, and their magic comes not from wands or spells but from pixie dust. Every fairy on Never Land has a talent. It is her calling in life-the thing she does best and loves best. Some fairies are experts in cricket-whistling. Some are skilled at turning berries into ink. There are fairies who spend all day soothing silkworms, or talking to trees, or summoning gusts of wind. There are as many different talents in Pixie Hollow as there are jobs to be done.”
23:28 Is that Winnie the Pooh on the shelf?! 41:24 I think this scene is where the conflict of "Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure" got it's inspiration, cause Terence brings Tink a compass and it accidentally breaks the moonstone. Yeah, I think the movie "Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure" is based off of "Tinkerbell, North of Neverland."
I didn’t have them all but I had a lot of the books and i was OBSESSED with Rani’s. Like to this day I couldn’t tell u a single thing about any of the other fairy books i owned but i still remember several scenes from that one. Fueled my little baby angst loving heart lol
I had some of the audio books as a kid and that's how I knew how to pronounce Rani's name. I even got into an argument with my friend at the time about it lol
I read the italian magazine as it came out. It was fantastic! Most of the Comics were based on the books. The very first issue being about Prilla's arrival. But I also vividly remember Rani's story and mother bird. There were non book based stories too, but best of all were the illustrations of the fairies' homes as in the coffee table book you showed. They were even annotated to explain the significance of things for each fairy. The art style was super cute and it came with little gifts.
I love these videos and I just love how you speak Sarah! I feel like I'm back in primary school and listening to the librarian read us stories!! its so soothing and engaging!! Great videos!!
I had some of the magazines. They have the energy of the books just in comic style and there are extras like infos about the fairy world or some fairies, and some activities
omg this video made me EXTREMELY HAPPY ! I have a vivid memory of reading these books and I wanted to purchase them but just could not find somehow, but so glad this video was made it fills me with so much joy

Oh my god I’m SO glad I found your channel! I legitimately just last night thought “wow it’s really sad that I’ve never seen any Disney Fairies BOOKS content on youtube” and then today I find this video! I’m so jazzed to watch it.
So nostalgic... I loved the fairies from the books so much and had a lot of magazines about them. Never got into the movies but I guess I was already too old when movies came out. And correct pronunciation of Rany's name surprised me too! But it's due to the fact that in translation to my native language her name was something like Rainy indeed
i always loved the art style of the books, they were absolutely gorgeous. rani and fira were my favs. so imagine my immense disappointment with the style they chose for the movies and the change of characters. grown ass adult and still annoyed they gave all the fairies tinker bell wings instead of keeping their unique ones from the books.
So I rewatched the first tinker bell movie and what's fun is the ending credits include art that features the same art style and even some of the characters from the books! There was one illustration that had Rani, beck, bess, fira, and someone else I wasn't sure of. I'd have been so confused as to who they were if I hadn't read the books 😂
thank you so much for this video. you've unlocked some of the fondest memories of my childhood. I had the magazines too when I was a kid! I should try and find them now. and the art style is just beautiful. thanks for scanning all those illustrations, I appreciate it very much ❤❤
They healed the fairy's vision instead of just asking Tinkerbell to make her glasses? They had the opportunity to give a fairy glasses, like many of her readers probably had, and they passed it up. 🙄
Okay if you meant something else sorry because I was listening to the video in the background and might have missed something, but do you mean the story with Myka? Because I remember reading that book and I think it wasn't that her vision was just blurry, she was actually going blind so glasses wouldn't fix it.
@@emilydonley8487 Ah, that's entirely possible. All I know about the story is what I heard from the video, and I'm not sure I was listening that closely, either.
As someone who's inner child is still obsessed with the TinkerBell franchise but have never had the privilege of getting these books, this in depth breakdown of each book was amazing ❤!
This brought back some memories. I had a craft set that was about taking flowers and plants and making them into clothes for fairies. I totally loved that Tinkerbell themed set, I'm so glad that I remembered that it existed.
this is so interesting!! my experience with disney fairies as a child is probably quite unusual, given that i never read the books or watched the movies, but i did read the magazines you mentioned religiously😅😅 i was aware of the books and we had them (im from finland) but i just never read them for some reason. i think they might've used the book stories or parts of them for the comic tho, because lots of the stories sound very familiar to me (like rani cutting off her wings, prilla not having a talent, fairies being born from a baby's laugh etc). also because my first language is not english, I never made the rainy/rani connection😂 great video😊😊

Rani was always my favorite. I wish she had a presence in the movies!
Yeah at the time I felt like it was Rani erasure heh
Yes, I loved her darker fairy books and Ella Enchanted is one of my all time favorite childhood books! It’s one of only a few I’ve reread as an adult.
Actually in elementary school I remember making a book with my friend based off of Disney fairies and it was amazing.
I think this was better than even reading the book so entertaining
I love the trio of Prilla, Vidia, and Rani. Their personalities are so different but they bounce off of each other so well. It reminds me of your ragtag DnD party going on a quest.
28:15 this fantasy is definitely why the rainbow magic fairy books were so popular. like im friends with the fairies and i Also get to Be a fairy whenever i want?! literal best case scenario
RAINBOW MAGIC BOOKS MENTIONED!!!! Sleeper agents go!
I have also pronounced Rani as rainy for a long time too and never thought to look up how to pronounce correctly😅
Love this video, it feels like someone is just reading me the pixie hollow stories but putting their personality into it
I think this was better than even reading the book so entertaining. I think this was better than even reading the book so entertaining.
These books are a continuation to the Peter Pan book?
@@Clava_Vodeanuc not really, they're their own thing
I had two of the chapter books (Queen Clarion's Secret and Rosetta's Daring Day) and this unearthed memories I didn't think still existed in my mind, the main one being that I liked Prilla because her hair was similar to mine, which is still a surefire way to get me attached to a character lol
Prilla definitely had one of the prettiest designs. I wish they'd given her a movie so more kids knew about her.
This video has unlocked a series of core memories and feelings from my youth
I don’t recall you showing it in the video, but I think that it was a thin, but tall book, and It came with a matching fairy cup, that we still have
The watercolor art in these books was well and truly unrivaled!!
The hidden world of fairies book was the best thing I owned as a kid
You are now one of my favorite niche media channels alongside izzzyzzz, sarah z, li speaks, mona ray, sailor guardian hope, and hazel. I wish youtube would come back with that playlist/folder feature for channels so I could group them all toghether!! (UA-cam please bring back this feature!!! I had *dozens* of folders that were really helpful with my watch expirience)
I really love experiencing media via getting told about it by someone who likes it. So this is just. very good! thanks
when I was growing up, I remember watching a show about fairies called Winx Club. What makes them different from all the rest of the fairy shows is that the girls transform into fairies
I still like Winx seasons 1-3, part of 4, and the world of Winx series. I can think of a few other things with girls transforming into fairies, angel friends and w.i.t.c.h are shows and fairy chronicles is a book series.
But they often had missions underwater, shouldn't be mermaids?
@narmlaudalv957 Winx club, oh, so has mermaids But instead of looking like a normal mermaid they have Fairy wings
just stumbled across your video while looking for some background noise while i crochet and i was immediately HOOKED because the gail carson levine fairy books were literally my childhood, even just looking at the gorgeous illustrations again awoke so much fondness and nostalgia in me and looking back on it now as an adult, they really helped to build on my love for fantasy and whimsy and worldbuilding that i carry to this day. i just might try to dig them up from my mom’s basement and reread them 🥹
I remember how happy I was when I found ‘Disney Fairy magazine’ in local library as the only reason I watched Peter Pan was because of Tink.
So yeah. One day I wish I will have my own daughter and till then I hope to collect some of the books and maybe we will share this interest together.
thank you, now instead of speaking about extended pixie hollow lore for hours at my guests praying they will listen, I can just send them this
Ahhhh the graphic novels were originally publihed in the disney fairies magazine, yes! i had one of two issues of the magazine and i was head over heels in love with the art style and fascinated with the character design, espeically the fairies that didnt show up in the movie!
1:07:04 those graphic novels were extremely popular in europe this is how i first got introduced to this franchise they were EVERYWHERE
Thank you for all this Disney fairy lore and love!! Insanely nostalgic for these books. I remember the food was always described very well? And I 100% also pronounced it Rainy not Rani
It’s cool hearing this and seeing the bits they plucked out and used for the movies.
Also, Mother Dove seems to be a Phoenix stand-in?
Ok but why are athe illustrations so gorgeous
So funny you posted this! I've recently been doing the same thing myself, rereading all of these books! I unfortuantely gave all my chapter books away as a kid, but I was able to find pdf copies online which was great!
Omg I gave away so many books as a kid that I regret now! And I did find pdfs of all the books but not until I was halfway done editing and I already scanned in all my books, I was so annoyed haha
@@sarah_serif I would've been annoyed too i feel you haha!
Girl you are bringing so much of my childhood back to life. Please do more!
I found this excerpt from In the Realm of the Never Fairies.
“Pixie Hollow
Deep in the heart of Never Land lies a place called Pixie Hollow.
Grew up with the Italian comics so hearing these dark stories from Gail Carson Lavine is so cool
I love these videos and I just love how you speak Sarah! I feel like I'm back in primary school and listening to the librarian read us stories!! its so soothing and engaging!! Great videos!!
Omg I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who pronounced “Rani” as “Rainy” I feel so validated.
omg the nostalgia of this and the memories coming back to me of loving all these books as a kid.
I had some of the magazines. They have the energy of the books just in comic style and there are extras like infos about the fairy world or some fairies, and some activities
been falling asleep to this video to have cool dreams about fairies
omg this video made me EXTREMELY HAPPY ! I have a vivid memory of reading these books and I wanted to purchase them but just could not find somehow, but so glad this video was made it fills me with so much joy
1:04:59 try taking a plastic bit from packaging and coloring it with a green highlighter or a green pen of some sort (maybe a sharpie?) and it’ll work pretty much the same (probably, this is untested)
Oh my god I’m SO glad I found your channel! I legitimately just last night thought “wow it’s really sad that I’ve never seen any Disney Fairies BOOKS content on youtube” and then today I find this video! I’m so jazzed to watch it.
I remember reading this book as a kid, but somehow I completely missed that it was by Gail Carson Levine?!? Thanks for this blast from the past!
Please! I can't wait for the next video. I am dying for more tinker bell content!!
i always loved the art style of the books, they were absolutely gorgeous. rani and fira were my favs. so imagine my immense disappointment with the style they chose for the movies and the change of characters. grown ass adult and still annoyed they gave all the fairies tinker bell wings instead of keeping their unique ones from the books.
I used to loooovvveeeee the art for these book!!!
This video was so much fun! I love all the lore from these books. Wish the movies were this good as well.
@@emilydonley8487
Ah, that's entirely possible. All I know about the story is what I heard from the video, and I'm not sure I was listening that closely, either.
Thank you for this video I was obsessed with these as a kid
As someone who's inner child is still obsessed with the TinkerBell franchise but have never had the privilege of getting these books, this in depth breakdown of each book was amazing ❤!
I ALSO THOUGHT HER NAME WAS RAINI!!! I was so convinced 💀
“It's just a prank bro”- the butterflies to
I was so obsessed with these books! Mainly cause of the beautiful artwork in them 💖💖
Rani and the mermaid lagoon was my favorite as a kid
The stakes are so high in these books I love it 😂
This brought back some memories. I had a craft set that was about taking flowers and plants and making them into clothes for fairies. I totally loved that Tinkerbell themed set, I'm so glad that I remembered that it existed.
6:37 Judgment of Corruption started playing in my head, I can’t ignore my little vocaloid obsessed heart lol
Thanks for explaining more about these books and art for me, it fulfills the wishes of my inner child
this is the best video i’ve ever watched thank you
this is so interesting!! my experience with disney fairies as a child is probably quite unusual, given that i never read the books or watched the movies, but i did read the magazines you mentioned religiously😅😅 i was aware of the books and we had them (im from finland) but i just never read them for some reason.
i think they might've used the book stories or parts of them for the comic tho, because lots of the stories sound very familiar to me (like rani cutting off her wings, prilla not having a talent, fairies being born from a baby's laugh etc).
also because my first language is not english, I never made the rainy/rani connection😂
great video😊😊
the interview is a great find, great video
ive been binge listening to a lot of your videos while i work on a crazy minecraft build like a nerd but geez i gotta say i love you LOL keep it up fam! i would go down swinging for you.
