Paintings can definitely be spooky. Wife and I moved into a Victorian-era apartment, and in the closet found an oil painting of two children with no hands, just emotionlessly staring into our souls all Victorian-era painting style.
You two are absolutely amazing. Your sense of humor, randomness, and gameplay have made me addicted to this channel. It doesn’t matter what game you play be it a triple A title, horror, indie, classic, FPS, mmo, or even Aliens colonial marines, the application of team Eurogamer makes it phenomenal. I always feel like I’m hanginout with friends. Thank you for all the hard work, and the great videos/streams. Love from Colorado
Aw thanks for saying that Samuel, that's the kind of atmosphere we really do try to bring to our videos (because let's be honest, it isn't our skills with a controller😂) Lots of love! ❤
You are ever so welcome guys. Well you certainly succeeded. I always feel so welcome in your chat (when I can catch them) And don’t sell yourselves short, you are above average with your gaming skills, we have seen your dark souls/bloodborn play through.
26:09 - "Judith beheading Holofernes". He was an invading general about to destroy her city, he invited her in to his tent, and she cut his head off when he passed out drunk.
I keep rewatching this video so often, it's probably my favorite of the Late to the Party videos...Unfortunately it means I'll occasionally think of Johnny saying "I'm a naughty artist" and start laughing my head off. As an artist I just absolutely love it. The painting Johnny thinks is Salome with the Head of John the Baptist actually Judith Slaying Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi! She's one of my favorite early Baroque painters.
The way the jump scare at 34:32 made me feel would make someone understand why studio ghibli characters' hair seems to be sentient. I feel like a poofed up cat.
I'm pretty new to this channel but I have to say Late to the Party is maybe the greatest conceived let's play series I've ever seen. Great idea, always enjoyable to watch.
I love Aoife's slight frustration at Johnny missing certain in game events. I feel that all the damn time when I show friends or family games. Johnny is doing exactly what I'd do in his situation though, use whimsy to hide the layers of fear.
4:00 I never knew you could buy bottled jelly shots. I'd play a lot more horror games if they weren't so dependent on the darkness. That's fine & dandy if you're afraid of the dark, but none of them seem to cater to the opposite. Admittedly, it's a bit of a niche audience but the fact remains that immersion breaks immediately when you can't bloody well see where you're supposed to go & you can't pick up a candlestick.
Oh, there goes Mr. Humbug There goes Mr. Grim If they gave a prize for bein' mean the winner would be him Oh, Scroogey loves his money 'cause he thinks it gives him power If he became a flavor you can bet he would be sour
commenting nearly 2 years after this video went up, but late to the party videos have been my happy place lately. the painting of judith slaying holofernes tickled the part of my brain that retains baroque art history knowledge & wanted to add that it was painted by artemisia gentileschi, one of the very very few women who were prominent in the art world at the time. the painting draws on biblical subject matter, but is also thought to be a metaphor for gentileschi's *very dark* relationship with her mentor (leaving a lot out in that phrasing to avoid any troubling content). anyway, this one is one of my favorites, team EG is the best 🖤
The painting at 26:20 is Judith Slaying Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi. The first female painter to make a living as an artist. She was bad ass. 😊
if I remember correctly arent all the paintings in this actual real life paintings, so when johnny says he has seen the wolf child before it may well have been that exact painting.
Please carry on with this!! It gets weirder and weirder and I'd love to see you guys play it more! And by the way, when you hear wispers it means that there's an important story item nearby to pick up :)
I think it'd be interesting to watch Johnny play a horror game all the way through and somehow miss literally all the spooks by just looking around in big swinging arcs, constantly.
If you do continue this: The whispering sound indicates objects that trigger monologues/memories, so they are quite good in adding more to the story or at least characterisation. Just noticed you missed some of those.
I have this game Ive picked it up many times Never beat it... Never got very far either..... I will just experience the game through you two. I think its better for my sanity.
I played this game and really liked it but I love the idea of subjecting Johnny to scary games, the humor results is fantastic. Great entertainment, Bloodborne album to 1 hour 15 minutes :)
Yes, paintings of any kind can be creepy. I suppose one of the more infamous ones that comes to mind is the Crying Boy. A somewhat ugly (and creepy) painting of a crying boy that is also said to be cursed, though according to Wiki (something I don't do that often) it's now been debunked.
UA-cam autoplays videos my feed while still in thumbnails and for whatever reason includes subtitles during the thumbnail auto play. Gotta say, it's pretty entertaining to now see automatically generated subtitles try (and fail) to understand what yall say. Oh youtube. Can they do anything right at this point
Would it be possible to do a Late to the Party for an old-school LucasArts game like Curse of Monkey Island? It's not as hardcore as other point-and-click adventures and I think the sense of humour would go well with you guys.
[Book Monster](ua-cam.com/video/MomQO4GGmWI/v-deo.html)! Don't tell OX Andy. Edit: Oh dear. I don't understand formatting, my apologies, I don't know how to fix it.
centuryguild.net/products/jo-jo-the-dog-faced-boy-fine-edition-art-print was this the dog faced boy you were thinking about? Also, I feel like you guys will appreciate that on more than one occasion this year alone I've gone out clubbing and S Club songs have started playing :D and I didn't even have to request them! edit: also also, I giggled at your vellum joke, Johnny
This looks so wonky with a controller. Wow it hurts to watch. Only the commentary makes it worth dealing with... It's not a bad walking simulator, but nowhere near Amnesia/Penumbra/SOMA/Outlast type horror games obviously.
Paintings can definitely be spooky. Wife and I moved into a Victorian-era apartment, and in the closet found an oil painting of two children with no hands, just emotionlessly staring into our souls all Victorian-era painting style.
We hope you immediately moved/burned the house down, just to be safe...
@@eurogamer Bah, the rent is cheap, and what's a little ethereal screaming and rattling of chains every now and again...
@@FlyingElbowKick free chain noises at night? sounds like a deal!
So I hear you like paintings:

5:04 This is the weirdest episode of Chiodini's Kitchen ever

14:49 - yeah, that's a painting from 1595 of Antonietta Gonzalez, a girl whose father and sisters all had hypertrichosis/"werewolf syndrome".
Please finish playing the game! One more play through and you'd be done, and this was lovely to watch.
Agreed! I'd love to see you play to the end

Let johnny drunk stream!!! We all need this in our lives!
Not drunk Drunk-Johnny is now officially my favourite

Easy way to tell if Aoife's scared, she always puts her hands behind her head.
Easy way to tell if Johnny's scared, he's talking. ;)
Well I laughed at “vellum, vellum, vellum”.

"You get back in there and finish getting terrified." :D
Johnny's finally found the answer to playing horror games: drunkenness.
The painting at 26:20 is Judith Slaying Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi. The first female painter to make a living as an artist. She was bad ass. 😊
YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH PAPRIKA!
"Oh, no, I'm gonna have to use my brain!" Evergreen statement, right there.
It's like a virtual tour of the set of the Electric 6 video.

I'm having flashbacks of oxbox's book monster
I'd love to see Johnny and Aoife play this game to the end
I think it'd be interesting to watch Johnny play a horror game all the way through and somehow miss literally all the spooks by just looking around in big swinging arcs, constantly.
This is gonna be great. Johnny being scared means that he will be even more jokey.
Johnny going full Bernard Black here
29:00 OH MY GOD THANK YOU AOIFE !!!! honestly tho i am here, trying to just love this let's play and i cANNOT SEE A THING
Love going through old EG videos ❤️
Drunk Johnny Sim ... love it! :)
Fun Fact for art lovers: the original of Fuseli's Nightmare is displayed at the Detroit Institute of Arts in Michigan.
Can we get a series of Johnny drunkily playing lots and lots of horror games please? I feel like I need that in my life
If you do continue this: The whispering sound indicates objects that trigger monologues/memories, so they are quite good in adding more to the story or at least characterisation. Just noticed you missed some of those.
Like a farmyard if colours,
Like looking into the eye of a duck,
And sucking all the fluid from its beak.
All the colours... Well yellow.
Clicked here just to see what was surely going to be a great cold open before heading off for the night. I wasn't disappointed.
That is some top shelf voiceacting from Johnny there
I have this game
Ive picked it up many times
Never beat it...
Never got very far either.....
I will just experience the game through you two. I think its better for my sanity.
4 Min in and I am lifted. Thanks you two.
I played this game and really liked it but I love the idea of subjecting Johnny to scary games, the humor results is fantastic. Great entertainment, Bloodborne album to 1 hour 15 minutes :)
You said "That's very gummy" as I was swallowing my gummy. Stop doing that.
"Big brass bumhole" are my favourite band. Yeah, you probably wouldn't have heard of them, they're pretty cool.
Oxbox Andy gave me a very different impression of this game than Drunk Johnny Simulator
Drunk Johnny should narrate all the horror games, it helps undercut the spookenings when he's larking about like Sir Digby Chicken-Caeser
Its fun just watching Aoife watch Johnny!
Johnny, recreating me on Saturdays. *kicks in door* WINE!

"Do you have a record player?" "Yes" "Course."
Savage stuff.
If I lived in that house i'd be drunk constantly.
We shall call this the spicy ghost caper.
You have a kettle for each hand, Johnny lol
I had a feeling the Puppy bit would upset Jonny :(
Hugs for the dog lover

man, that was fun! you two should totally finish this (with a bottle of wine)
*Bang!* Ahhhh! Noo thank you! We don't want any loud crashes, spilled wine or book monsters!
at this point in my life of watching eurogamer i honestly believe johnny got to drunk at work and Aoife try to cover it up with this video.
Would it be possible to do a Late to the Party for an old-school LucasArts game like Curse of Monkey Island? It's not as hardcore as other point-and-click adventures and I think the sense of humour would go well with you guys.
Maybe that "dog collar" is a actually rat collar lol

Who is the artist Aoife mentioned at the beginning? I thought I heard "Randy McGreet" but I looked that name up and got nothing.
René Magritte.
Can we get a full play through?
I enjoyed playing this, though the screen tearing on PS4 took me out of it a bit.
Book monster!
I like this game
I ship it.
You ever watch 'The Christmas Shoes'? Worst. Thing. Ever.
centuryguild.net/products/jo-jo-the-dog-faced-boy-fine-edition-art-print was this the dog faced boy you were thinking about?

Is that a baby with a beard or a beard with a baby? lol
dammit werebaby!!
Artsy Aoife gets 10 points
What this game needs is Sex Cop!
Can I request more drunk-spoopy let's plays please? This was much funs.
Jonny did such a good job of acting drunk, watching this made me feel quite sick honestly
Nice!!
This looks so wonky with a controller. Wow it hurts to watch. Only the commentary makes it worth dealing with...
It's not a bad walking simulator, but nowhere near Amnesia/Penumbra/SOMA/Outlast type horror games obviously.
Lol
Drunk Johnny is best Johnny
Johnny's fake drunk schtick was immediately tiresome in this one
The blonde looks like the Ferris Bueller girl.
To mush wah noise
This playing drunk is not funny
Johnny being drrunkk is not funny , because I'm drunk and your ruining it please continue
