This teamwork was absolutely remarkable! I'm so impressed! .... I want a full Team Eurogamer round, because I can only imagine the chaos that would ensue once Ian joined in the madness
Well she's fidgeting and Johnny did that a bit as well. My OCD screams that they should focus on what they are doing. So I didn't like that very much at all.
Mad respect to you two for playing this game and persevering until you got the memory game right. I can just see myself cross-legged on the floor with a notepad and the manual scattered around me shouting at my friend trying to the diffuse the bomb and then blowing up every time because we're both too confused and drunk to understand anything.
Ok, finally around to watching this and wow, the communication between Johnny and Aoife at the 15 minute mark, that's how you know they're best friends on-screen and off.
I played this as a Scout exercise, with the defuser in a dark room and communication only by radio. Had to. Contact the local police first to keep things safe.
I saw a video once where someone talked a pair of actual bomb defusal experts into playing it. Hoo boy, they made it look easy, despite not being gamers.
My favorite part of watching this game played is the way they end up describing the symbols activity. Half Walt Disney W was certainly new, but I liked it.
I fucking LOVE that the number one you defeated required no moving of the position 😂 It doesn't detract from the victory in any way but it just made me chuckle!!
Their looks at the start say it all. That and the fact Aoife said "fuck" when Johnny told her the game relies on expert communication. Which is why I'll keep watching. I have never seen this go relatively well...at least on UA-cam.
And just like that, Johnny feels immense guilt and frustration in his "failure" to give proper instruction, despite Aoife not noticing that the red strip was no longer red.
Aoife - yes this game is on Switch. Had heard of it before but never played - Found it on the switch store after thoroughly enjoying your gameplay and spent the last 24 h playing it with my hubs!
This is an awesome party game in VR, since there's no way for anyone to sneak a look at the bomb! Ian should definitely get on that, it would be glorious chaos.
@The Dark Soul of Man Well, the memory module is called a memory module for a reason. You have to remember both the numbers and the positions they’re in. Here’s an example (I haven’t watched this in a while so I’m basing this on memory). It’s the second one they have to complete in a row, and there’s a number at the top. The numbers on the bottom are 2314. It says press the button in the third position, which is 1. Now it’s the third time in a row, there’s a number on top, and the numbers are 3142. It says press the button with the same _label_ you pressed last time. They pressed a 1 last time, so you press the button in the second position, which is a 1. Now it’s the fourth time in a row, there’s a big number on top, and the four numbers are 4321. It says press the button in the same _position_ you pressed last time, so you press the button in the second position, which is a 3. Not sure if that made sense, and I’m sure somebody could explain it better than me, but that’s what I got.
Wait a sec... Johnny, is your Murder by Death shirt of the band of the same name? If so, they are from my home town in Indiana, I’ve seen them multiple times live, and have even met them! I’ll send you a picture of the poster I got signed by them if you want, they are AMAZING! Such an amazing folk-rock band.
Hell, I’ll even send you the poster itself that’s signed by them just so you can have it if you want it! Amazing to see someone else respect such an amazing band from my hometown, especially someone from across the pond!
Absolutely! Anytime I can introduce new music to someone I feel elated as music is my favorite thing in the world. I actually met the lead singer and his wife, the cellist. They were so damn nice and got their autos on a poster that they gave me for free! I really do want to send it to Johnny since he is one of my three favorite UA-camrs/games journalists ever, the other two being Aoife and Ian of course. Once I have a bit of extra money I plan on sending it to the Eurogamer office like I did with a bottle of my favorite rum to Ian. Then all I have to do is figure out something to send Aoife... these are the the least I can do for all of the many, many hours of great content they’ve given me, and how they’ve helped me in some very dark times including getting through the death of my girlfriend a little less than a year ago. All I need Johnny to do is give me the address and instructions on where to send it, I know the Eurogamer office but I don’t remember the address and specifics such as putting “To Johnny Chiodini” or whatever. If anyone can help me with this (I’m looking at you @atfruitbat!) I’d be so appreciative so I can surprise him!
The memory puzzle is a mixed bag some people struggle, others breeze through it ... I think depending on a persons own ability to recall both the number they pressed and the position they pressed and at what stage ... I personally have a TERRIBLE memory ... Clear communication on both sides can help, but if you have as garbage a memory as me then having a pen and paper to write stuff down as you go along during these sorts of puzzles can help even more ... And I don't even consider it cheating since stessful situation or not, not everyone has the same retention, your still expending time and even with the writing aid you can still screw up ... Now ... What was I talking about?
I ended up grabbing a notepad whenever you got to the numbers panel, as if I could help you solve it :D. Anytime something involving memory comes up in a game, I need a notepad cuz my memory is absolute shite. Good on you for keeping at it, I think all those soulsborne bosses have given you a +1 to your resolve (at least) ;)
Aoife missed that one and didn't look or expect a change. But Johnny can't see it so he still thinks it's red. Since he can't figure out why it isn't working he naturally assumes he's making a mistake.
AFAIK it's out on the Switch. I absolutely love this game. We first played it in my first job as a team building event, and we had the manual printed. It makes it so much easier. And maybe that's considered cheating....but I'd write down the values of the Number Bastard puzzle. Makes you feel like a real bomb defusing expert :D
No writihg them down is fairly legit. It takes a bit more time so it's a trade off that would pay off long term. With the three wires configuration I started anticipating "cut the 2nd wire".
I've been wanting to play this for a while now... sadly, I have no one who is both competent and confident enough to play with me. (By the way, I do like both numbers and symbols, though I'm indifferent to wires.)
I own the game and still haven't played because I can't find anyone who wants to play with me. My family prefers board and card games, I'm the puzzle freak. =/
My family prefers board and card games too... which is usually just fine, but when you get the urge to enter a high-tress life and death situation for fun, neither Pit nor Clue really satisfy.
This teamwork was absolutely remarkable! I'm so impressed! .... I want a full Team Eurogamer round, because I can only imagine the chaos that would ensue once Ian joined in the madness
How did Aoife not notice the strip wasn't red anymore on that button?
She was no longer paying attention to the button as she didn't think it would change
everytime a strike occurs it changes.
I love that Aoife's response to having a bomb is to spin it wildly.
Well she's fidgeting and Johnny did that a bit as well. My OCD screams that they should focus on what they are doing. So I didn't like that very much at all.
Mad respect to Johnny and Aoife for not looking at the screen
That was brilliant guys. First time you blew up the strip turned yellow after the first time from red
6:00 Even during bomb defusal Johnny is educational Dad.
"That's called an 'æsc.'"
Thanks, Johnny, now we know. (I've actually wondered from time to time.)
Johnny: We're gonna swap in a bit.
Aoife: Whaaaa...?!?
Me: LOL!
Aoife's "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" was brilliant.
I love that seeing it from the other side and already practicing their teamwork they still ended up doing it faster
Mad respect to you two for playing this game and persevering until you got the memory game right. I can just see myself cross-legged on the floor with a notepad and the manual scattered around me shouting at my friend trying to the diffuse the bomb and then blowing up every time because we're both too confused and drunk to understand anything.
Yup I loved the fac that they are perseverant until they got it.
Elsewhere right now but my goodness, I cannot wait to see what a calamitous experience this ends up being, I love seeing this played.
Ok, finally around to watching this and wow, the communication between Johnny and Aoife at the 15 minute mark, that's how you know they're best friends on-screen and off.
@@brocksisson7128 I've played this game, and that was better than it came out the first time I played it.
They don't realize that the color changes after the first strike -_-
I always wanted to play this on a train, with the bomb on a laptop hidden in a briefcase and your mate on the phone.
I played this as a Scout exercise, with the defuser in a dark room and communication only by radio. Had to. Contact the local police first to keep things safe.
@@FedoraPirate That sounds awesome!
@@FedoraPirate I should do this as an Air Cadets thing.
oh my god the way you randomly switch between "x in from the left" and "x in from the right" on the mazes is giving me a panic attack
Just kept hearing Ruby Rod from the 5th Element:
"I want AAAALLLL positions!"
Scott Pilgrim reference...Aoife is offically the best member of the Eurogamer crew
Poor guys, didn't realize the diffuser needs to read back the label.
Edit: Yay they got it at the end!
This would be absolutely hilarious on stage at EGX Rezzed!
You guys certainly were on a watchlist before this: that of your subscribers.
My favourite one of these.
Aoife: "So what you're saying is, this game hinges on expert communication."
Johnny: "Yes."
Aoife: "Fuck."
Brilliant.
I haven't seen a ton of this gameplay before, but you two are the most coordinated that I've seen at this! Well played, a joy to watch :)
I saw a video once where someone talked a pair of actual bomb defusal experts into playing it. Hoo boy, they made it look easy, despite not being gamers.
I bet Sark and Chilled could give them a run for their money :P
yeeeeeesssss! I've been waiting for them to play this game for so long! thank you Johnny and Aoife!😊👍
This is some glorious, infuriating teamwork.
@8:37, that "huh" from Aoife was definitely a mood. 😂
NEED MOAR! Play with the whole squad live!
55:00 THAT'S NUMBERWANG!
My favorite part of watching this game played is the way they end up describing the symbols activity. Half Walt Disney W was certainly new, but I liked it.
I don‘t think Aoife singing Thank you, next was helping Johnny understand the manual in any way xD
This game was made in a global game jam even.
I'm participating this year.
I fucking LOVE that the number one you defeated required no moving of the position 😂 It doesn't detract from the victory in any way but it just made me chuckle!!
I’d love to see you guys play more of this one. And you can play it in VR! Ian?
I love the descriptions of the button symbols.
Their looks at the start say it all.
That and the fact Aoife said "fuck" when Johnny told her the game relies on expert communication.
Which is why I'll keep watching. I have never seen this go relatively well...at least on UA-cam.
come to think of it, 'fuck' (along with 'damnit', 'crap', etc.) should totally be a word in the your/you're/UR module.
And just like that, Johnny feels immense guilt and frustration in his "failure" to give proper instruction, despite Aoife not noticing that the red strip was no longer red.
Please, please, please do more of this
Hell yeah Johnny rocking the Murder by death shirt!
Ж always funny how people trying to describe it ))
Personally, I would describe it as two “K”s back to back.
@@TheOverArchiver That's exactly how I'd describe it.
backwards k then forwards k together.
Wicker man.
I would just say ж and hope my mate knows the Cyrillic alphabet.
YES, more of this please!
Great amount of fun, that is a hard game with only two people. Loved the tension and heart pounding moment.
Just pressed play on the video, already know the next hour is going to be a gloriously entertaining mess. Thumbs up!
1:01 "So what you're saying is this game hinges on expert communication?" "Yes." "Fuck."
Comedy gold
Aoife - yes this game is on Switch. Had heard of it before but never played - Found it on the switch store after thoroughly enjoying your gameplay and spent the last 24 h playing it with my hubs!
This is going to be a glorious mess isn’t it?
"This game hinges on good communication... Fuck" - Pretty much every work meeting ever...
btw, this is indeed on the Switch. Also on Oculus, and a bunch of other formats too. In VR you can have your bomb inside an elevator.
I've never heard anyone scream "Fuck you numbers!" with such satisfaction before. In fact, I've never heard anyone scream "Fuck you numbers!" before.
Add Ian and play as a team of three! Should get nicely chaotic (he'll probably defect to the dark side at some point)
That memory one is a killer. My tip? Pen and paper.
It really would help if they knew enough to keep track of the numbers they're pressing to begin with
This is an awesome party game in VR, since there's no way for anyone to sneak a look at the bomb! Ian should definitely get on that, it would be glorious chaos.
The game is on Switch BTW. I remember seeing it in the eShop and watching a Let's Play of it on Switch last year.
4:25 That is a great reference
This is amazing, please do more levels
"FUCK YOU NUMBERS!" - My exact reaction after finishing the final math exam in secondary school.
Hmm, how long before they figure out how the Memory module works?
20-ish minutes, but until the end of the video until they beat it.
@@TheOverArchiver I'm not convinced they actually ever understood that puzzle
I also didn't understand that one.
@The Dark Soul of Man

As I’m reading my explanation again, I can hear Aoife reading this aloud in her amazing voice.
Chorus :
Third position, it was a one
Third postion it, was a one
Third postion it, was a one
I too, am a fan of wires.
So glad I was drinking cocktails with a friend at lunch-time, now come home to this :D

I just listened to a couple of their songs and they're pretty damn good! Thanks Johnny and Eric 😀
