The 177 countries thing was a move by Valve (Steam) to limit their liability if this went bad. They've done similar things before and it's an easy thing to walk back. I expect Valve to do that sometime in the next 24 hours. They will wait until they have verification firmer than a Sony tweet though, just to save their own butt.
Sony is responsible for the sale of the game so they should be restoring it to what it previously was. Unless someone forgets to push buttons at Sony HQ

Money is the only language these companies understand. Pretty sure Helldivers developers wanted to use this as leverage against Sony but Sony went forward with it anyway.

@@EntityVII Oftentimes no. There are many, many times where companies forego real money for BS speculation and this one is not an exception. Sony just didn't expect the blowback to be so massive and organized.

We have to thank Valve for having a huge hand in this. They both were offering refunds and restricting the game from being bought in 177 countries. This likely caused Sony to reconsider pretty fucking quickly. And that's in addition to giving a massive platform that allows actual user reviews and a discussions forum for players to have their voices heard.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'm going to reinstall the game. The updates always seem to make the game a little worse for me and I don't think this is the end of them pushing things now that they know where the line is.

Another thing worth mentioning is players who requested and obtained refunds but are now willing to come back, will they get their progress and in game purchases back? the game theoretically had a warning day 1, you could buy and play the game for 3 months. once they updated the software to ALLOW them to fuck you, they did. so you bought and paid for a game they never wanted you to play, and have no correctly stopped you from playing their game.... this is bizarro world weirdness

Last few days I was just saying “HOW SONY NUKED THEIR OWN GAME” this is the best decision Sony have made, the refunds was clearly a big issue for them. It’s not for the gamers, it’s clearly because they don’t want to lose money.

While this is good news, notice they said the patch isn’t moving forward? Sony didn’t say outright they would end all efforts like this. My guess is Sony will wait and try again later.
